This time of year i like to focus on the LYMPHATIC system as a way to improve our ability to fight off those winter bugs! The first thing i do when i start to feel a scratchy throat...lymphatic drainage to the neck, face and armpits (i will show you in the next post). 💥Then i bump up my hydration, and take as many little movement breaks as i can throughout the day.💥 I remind myself to take a few deep belly breaths to mobilize the lymph in the abdominal area & then i make sure i find 5-10 minutes for a deep relaxation (usually with my legs up on the couch) followed by a solid night of SLEEP ...💥 Those are the things that support our LYMPHATIC system & remove the obstacles that make it challenging for our immune system to do its job! 💥This often ignored or forgotten system can help you to get through the winter & take better care of yourself! 😊 💥NOTICE how alot of these things are found in YOGA already?? One of the special things about yoga asana practice is that it is a whole movement system we do barefoot! - THINK about that...what other movement systems are done barefoot? (Some modern dance & pilates, gymnastics...) Most movement/exercise is done with the feet confined in shoes! . . . . . . . Moving with naked feet creates an opportunity to build connection to the way our feet move, (or identify a lack of movement), to strengthen the foot muscles & to give sensory input to all those nerves. Yoga for BACK CARE: one of the unique things about yoga as a movement practice is that we go through many different ways of moving the body against gravity. POSE BREAK DOWN: as i am getting ready to teach the updated yoga anatomy program in 2 weeks this stuff has been on my mind...what goes into a shape...what is happening at each part of the body...how can we best prepare the body to take a shape?
