Henry may be blonde but he is NOT the golden retriever boyfriend. If anything he’s more black cat coded, but I also wouldn’t label him fully as the black cat boyfriend. Alex is 100% the golden retriever boyfriend.
how do people watch something and just not immediately make it their wholeass personality??? like what do you mean you watched the prince of wales and the fsotus fall in love and didn’t immediately scream into the void and let it take over your whole life????? they’re babygirls?!!!!!
Not seeing enough about how the king was heavily implied to be a closeted homosexual who chose tradition and the crown while burying his heart/desires, making him an obvious foil to Henry, who makes the opposite decision with Alex.
“Princes cannot be homosexual” and the way he clenches his hands as he said it, he was definitely told the exact same thing when he was a much younger man.
It’s just a very layered choice and makes an interesting point about cycles of homophobia and violence, and it was the one major change that felt purposeful in the film.
Also, it’s Stephen Fry. ‘Nuff said.
[Oooh and continuing along the thread of cycles of homophobia and violence: Miguel.]
rwrb has such a delightful opening-title-credit-sequence-whatever and i have to watch it every time i watch the movie cause the little graphics make me giggle and bad reputation was literally the perfect choice to put over it— but it is absolutely hilarious to me that the whole film opens on “i don’t give a damn bout my bad reputation!!!!!” when in fact the two main characters do spend most of the movie giving a damn quite a bit about the possibility of having a bad reputation JRJFJFMFJ 😭
