Hello
What’s the best episode of fraggle rock in your opinion?
Hi!!!!!!
So sorry, I have no idea how long this AAM has been sitting in my inbox!
Hmmmm… there are a ton of them that I rank in my personal favorites, and I could answer this according to that list, or from an objective angle based on overall writing and thematic traits.
Objectively, I’d say the best episode is “Change of Address”, as it’s the full circle moment that the series has been building up to- not to mention that I get CHILLS every time “Magic be With You” starts playing in that haunting choral arrangement. It’s impacted me so much, and maybe it sounds odd to anyone else, but it was the song I sung to my newborn niece to soothe her the first time I met her, and it worked. Overall if’s just a beautiful episode, and I’m always teary afterwards.
Other strong contenders based on objective reasons are “The Day the Music Died”, “Gone But Not Forgotten”, and possibly “River of Life” (?). I give RoL a hesitant nod because it’s so somber that I’ve only been able to watch it twice- and I’ve seen the entire series otherwise so many times I couldn’t even guess, maybe upwards of 30-40 full views? Probably more, honestly, since it’s been my favorite companion since I was a tiny kid.
In terms of my favorites though, I have a long list! It doesn’t have huge overbearing weight in the story, but “Capture the Moon” has always been one of my biggest comfort episodes, as have “Boober’s Dream”, “Red’s Blue Dragon”, and “Wembley’s Flight”. Oh, and “A Brush with Jealousy”!! Man, the song from that one… “show me the light in a butterfly’s eye/and show me the dreams of the earth and the sky”… ahh.. so pretty.. I just feel refreshed upon hearing it. :)
Capture the Moon is where the foundation for my two main Fraggle OCs comes from (and weirdly enough, I came up with them due to a very specific Fraggle dream I had as a little kid, so that’s probably why they’re so dear to me! Hah!)
I also (hot take, I know!) do have a couple episodes I don’t actually care for that much. Of course, I love them all, but I do definitely have some least favorites. (I have never really liked “The Great Radish Famine”. I can’t place why, but it’s 1000% near the bottom of my list, LOL!)
Anyway, you asked a short question, and I totally blathered on for way too long! I’m not sure if I gave a very satisfactory answer 😅 I do suppose I could be more specific and take a more analytical approach if you’d like!! There are several ways to answer this specific question, HAH! Please feel free to ask more!!!! :0

how are they as a dad? (preference)
A/N: yo i hate it here fr. this hurt.
Tumblr media
Anwar Kharral (SKINS UK)
Anwar’s grown into a good man. This is why you're with him.
He proves it to be true. A kid wasn’t part of the plan, and he wasn’t entirely sure what he would do with it, but he makes it look good.
Due to his status, the two of you are more careful when you go out. And he is careful!
Everything in your home was baby proofed, and it stayed that way even when your kid wasn’t a baby anymore.
One of his favorite things is when your kid decides to nap on him. He could do that all day. Just turn his phone off and let an adventurous four year old ruin his plans.
But this doesn’t stop the fun though. He got a playground put in the backyard, and their room is enormous!
Celebrity children hang out with other celebrity children, so playdates are never lacking.
And Anwar’s been watching a lot of “Out of the Box” and “Bear in the Big Blue House”, because it’s what he liked, why shouldn’t your kid like the same?
You only get a little bit concerned when you find him watching “Fraggle Rock” by himself. But then you hear the theme song and remember how good the soundtrack is.
Tumblr media
Neal Sampat (The Newsroom, 2011-2014)
Neal is confident. He has no actual idea how he got this way, but as soon as your kid started walking, he knew things were gonna be alright.
Will and the other new dads in the office are envious of this, and Neal barely notices.
He takes a step back from work, and he doesn’t come back to full capacity until age 4. His separation anxiety takes a moment to simmer down.
You resolve this by making a deal with Will: your kid gets to hang out in the newsroom. No swearing, no sexual mentions, and no references to illegal drugs. Violent and horrible news stories are already restricted to the rundown meeting, that’s not too big of a transition.
Will says yes, obviously.
Deon Wilson (Chappie, 2015)
Deon’s afraid. Like, seriously afraid. What’s he gonna do with a kid? He can’t program it! He can’t keep it safe!
He was a terrible father to Chappie, and it cost him a kidney and half a liver. He worries every day that would happen again with your kid. Anxiety king over here.
But he still does his best. Your kid’s pretty quiet and reserved, so they hand around with Deon and watch him do his robotics.
Deon loves it, but once your daughter hits five, he decides it’s time to go out and do things.
This starts small with walks to the park, and it ends with a tiny, and dedicated ballet dancer.
Tumblr media
Sheru Brierly (LION, 2016)
Sheru LOVES being a dad. The most smug man ever. Your daughter is the best kid of all time.
He carries her everywhere, and he teaches her everything he knows about everything. If she asks something he doesn’t know, he googles it.
He makes all the lunches, he lets her pick out whatever clothes she wants.
Your girl’s spoiled.
It gets to the point where he’s upset that she’s getting too heavy for him to pick up.
He just works out more.
Sheru’s the buffest dad in the pickup line, and it’s gonna stay that way.
Tumblr media
Jay Menha (The Wedding Guest, 2018)
Jay loves your daughter the most.
She didn’t replace you as his favorite person, but damn it’s a pretty close tie.
He hates the PTA, he hates that she has to go to school, and he hates that other people look at him and her when they’re out at the park or something.
The single Moms LOVE chatting him up when your girl’s in a baby bjorn. You can’t say you blame them, because he’s hot. But it freaks him out. He doesn’t like it one bit, it’s too much.
So, whenever people come over to talk to her or him, he basically snatches her and runs away. Is it rude? Technically. Does he care? No.
Maybe it gets to the point where you put your girl in school a year late. It doesn’t really matter, she already knows the alphabet.
Tumblr media
Joshua Madika (Modern Love, 2019)
I’m gonna be real, Joshua struggles a little bit.
He’s anxious, he’s worried that he’s gonna step on your kid. He’s worried he’s gonna drop your kid. He’s never seen or known a kid in his life, what the heck is he gonna do?
Joshua still thinks babies are strange, but this doesn’t stop him from daily walks to the park, and lovely chats with other parents.
Joshua makes a decision on your kid's second birthday that he’s going to stop feeling like he’s actively messing things up, and focus on your kid.
Things get a lot better for him after that.
The whole ‘losing teeth’ thing . . . he doesn’t like that.
Tumblr media
David Copperfield (2020)
David was waiting for this moment since the day he met you.
He’s so excited, he’s bouncing off the walls.
He’s read every book he can get his hands on, and he’s spoken with everyone he could find about what it is to be a parent.
David Copperfield II is crushing it. He’s sweet, he’s warm, and he has yet to raise his voice at either of your children. He speaks to them like they’re smart, tiny people, and most of all, he treats them with respect.
With money from his books, he’s able to stay home with you and the kids. These days he only leaves the house unless it’s necessary. I mean his family is at home, what else does he need?
There’s an occasional vacation, to see Peggotty and Ms. Trotwood, but that’s as far from stressful as one could get.
All he had to do was adjust his writing time to later at night, when the kids (and sometimes you) were all asleep. It feels natural somehow.
Tumblr media
Sir Gawain (The Green Knight, 2021)
Look, Gawain was never held as a child. He got one hug at age 18 and he burst into tears.
When he meets your kid, he’s deciding to do better. You didn’t expect such an effort from someone who grew up royal, but he’s doing his best.
He knows how dangerous things are, both from his quests, and just being a person in the medieval times.
Gawain is the king of anxiety.
For the first six years of your child’s life, their feet barely touched the ground. Gawain says “the ground is too cold”
So you bully him into taking Soleil to Merlin on her seventh birthday.
Merlin gives Soleil a protection spell, and Gawain’s relieved. Easy peasy.
Merlin just wants Gawain happy, and he is. For the first time ever.t

You guys really liked the first transcription I did, so here’s the PopBuzz interview of Joe Dempsie, Jacob Anderson, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Gwendoline Christie known for revealing her anxiety over kazoos.
Joe and Jacob attempt to play the GoT theme on kazoos and fail spectacularly, breaking out in laughter.
Interviewer: Nikolaj and Gwendoline!
Nikolaj: Yes.
I: How are you?
Nik: We’re good.
Gwendoline: Scared about that kazoo.
I: Yeah. Oh, you’ve noticed the kazoo? Yeah.
Gwen starts laughing.
This interview is only five minutes but I think I’ve aged like five years transcribing it. Anyways, I had to put a “keep reading” because there’s so much dialogue. These lovelies are so chatty, it’s adorable. <3
I: Well, to celebrate the final season of Game of Thrones, we’re gonna challenge you to a quiz.
Nik: Okay.
Gwen: Okay.
I: Okay. Your opponents are gonna be Joe and Jacob.
Overlapping:
Jacob: I’m gonna try and take that.
Joe: I mean, if I were you—I mean, (laughs) I would set the bar low and then you’ll never be disappointed.
I: Yeah.
Joe: Set the bar low.
I: Exactly.
Gwen: (about Jacob and Joe) I bet they’re really good.
I: The prize we’re playing for is this lovely picture of Ned Stark.
Overlapping:
Jacob: I want it.
Joe: I have to have it.
I: It glimmers and everything.
Jacob: But how would we work out who gets to keep it? ‘Cause I want it.
Joe: Well—well—(stuttering)
Jacob: Actually, I want it, I’d get it.
Overlapping:
I: Custody six months of the year. Okay.
Jacob: Okay, okay, let’s win first.
Joe: (mumbling)
Gwen: I’m worried about the kazoo...
I: Alright, question one: in order, name the for characters that occupied the throne since episode one.
Joe: Robert Baratheon.
Just out of sync:
Joe: Joffrey Baratheon.
Jacob: Joffrey.
Both: Tommen. Cersei.
I: Yes, that’s it. One point.
Nik: Okay, uh, Robert Baratheon, uh...Joffrey, uh, Baratheon, (muffled as the screen zooms in on a confused Gwen) Tommen Baratheon, Cersei Lannister.
I: Yes. Can you name the dragon?
Nik: I can’t.
I: It’s the one that everyone forgets.
Joe: I don’t know—I’ve got nothing.
Gwen: (extremely unsure) Drogon?
I: Begins with an “R”...
Jacob: Rhaegal!
I: Yes! (to Nik and Gwen) The other one...
Gwen: The other one.
I: Which is...
Nik: Hehrhorna.
Look...I tried.
Gwen bursts out laughing.
I: (laughing) It’s Rhaegal!
Nik: Oh.
I: Third question; this is the Dothraki round. Do either of you know any Dothraki?
Joe: Personally?
I: The language, do you speak?
Joe: (laughing) Oh, right, oh.
Overlapping:
Jacob: Like, Valyr—Valyrian’s not the same, no. So, no.
I: People. No. Alright. Can you tell me what this word means in English.
She holds up a sign with “Zhavorsa” on it.
Nik: Zhavorsa.
I: What does it mean in English.
Nik: Oh!
Joe: Uh...
Jacob: J’ava—j’ava horse, sir?
Without the British accent the phrase is “Do you have a horse, sir?”
Both laugh.
Joe: J’ava horse, sir?
Jacob: (stutters) J’ava horse, sir?
Joe, Jacob, and the interviewer laugh.
Nik: That means...
Gwen: I’m scared of the kazoo.
Nik: (laughs) It means—
Gwen: That’s what it means.
Nik: —welcome
I: It means... (pulls out the picture of Rhaegal)
Nik: Oh. Dragon.
I: Dragon!
Joe and Jacob groan in sync.
Joe: Have we won yet?
I: No. Alright, the next round is a “Who said it?” round. You just need to tell me (tiny pause for dramatic affect) who said it. “If you ever call me sister again I’ll have you strangled in your sleep.”
Nik: (to Gwen) So do we just discuss this to ourselves?
Gwen: (quietly, to Nik) Is it Ramsay Bolton?
Jacob: Uh, that was Cersei that said it. She said it to Margaery.
I: She did.
In sync:
I: Yeah.
Jacob: Yeah.
I: Excellent.
Jacob: Good line.
I: “If you think this has a happy ending you haven’t been paying attention.”
Jacob: That (very quiet whisper to Joe) feels like—it feels like a Tyrion.
Overlapping:
Gwen: It’s Varys, or Littlefinger.
Nik: No, Tyrion. It’s Tyrion.
Gwen: Tyrion.
Nik: Tyrion.
Gwen: Tyrion.
I: Nope, that was Ramsay Bolton.
Gwen: (bleeped out) Fuck myself.
I: “Has anyone ever told you you’re as boring as you are ugly?”
Jacob laughs.
Gwen: Yes they have.
She laughs uproariously.
Joe: The Hound would probably say that.
I: No, it was Jaime to Brienne!
Joe: Oh!
I: Yeah.
Gwen: (mumbles) Has he said it to me? Was it—
I: Yeah. Jaime said it to Brienne.
Gwen: Yeah, yeah.
Nik: Oh, really?
Gwen: I was right! I was right! I was right!
I: One point! I have one kazoo. One of you sh—needs to play the tune—
Gwen: I’m not touching it.
I: —theme tune.
Joe: You do that bit, alright?
Joe and Jacob do part of their spectacular rendition of the GoT theme song.
Gwen: I’ve—I’ll actually go into anaphylactic shock if I have to have anything to do with the kazoo.
Nik plays a little bit of the theme tune.
Gwen: (as he’s playing) This is so wonderful. (to someone off-camera, who presumably brought over the kazoos) Thanks for this.
Nik: Was that good?
I: Perfect! I’m gonna give you five points.
Joe and Jacob are still playing the theme tune.
Joe: Why’d I pick this bit.
The guys continue playing until they look at each other and burst into laughter, along with the interviewer.
I: I’m gonna give you double, that’s ten points right there.
Jacob: Yeah!
Joe: Amazing.
I: Perfect. The last round. Thirty seconds. Can you name all nine of the great houses of Westeros.
Gwen: No.
Nik: Okay?
Joe: Stark. Baratheon. Greyjoy.
Nik: The Lannister, Stark, Targaryen...
Joe: Bolton.
I: Nope, they’re not on there.
Overlapping:
Jacob: They’re not—they’re not a legitimate—not a legitimate house.
Joe: Oh. Not a great house. Not a legit house.
Nik: ...Greyjoys, Tyrell, Frey...
Jacob: The...fijermajidits. (irl keyboard smash.) The Fragles.
Gwen: I’m anxious about the kazoo.
Nik: The kazoo is out!
Overlapping:
I: The kazoo is gone!
Gwen: Well, I can’t—!
Joe, Jacob, and the interviewer are laughing.
Joe: (unintelligible)...Fraggle Rock.
Jacob: House—House Fraggles.
I: Time! Time, time, time, time. You did well. You missed, uh, Arryn and Martell.
Nik: Alright, how many points do we have?
Jacob: The Arryns.
I: You, I can safely say, are the winners of the Ned Stark picture. Congratulations. Do you wanna do a speech?
Jacob: Amazing.
Joe: Thank you.
Jacob: Do we actually get to keep it?
I: You can keep it, yeah.
Jacob: Um.
Joe: I’d just, uh, like to—personally say this is the—the greatest moment of my—life.
Jacob: Yeah. Professional life, as well.
Joe: Just life and, uh, I’ll look at this forever.
Jacob: Yeah.
Joe: Thank you.
I: Perfect.
Jacob: Thank you.
I: Thank you so much.
Gwen: Thank you to—my team.
Nik snorts and Gwen bursts out laughing.

Apologies for clogging the Fraggle tag with this, but after all these years, I’ve only had an excuse to explain to one random Tumblr user that Fraggle Rock and Fragile Rock are two different things. I am tired of waiting for an opportunity like that to present itself again, so I am just putting this out there as a general PSA.
Fragile Rock is a puppet emo band from Austin, Texas consisting of a real band backing puppeteers. They’re like a band/improv group. They can be a bit crass, so I’m not sure they’re everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m assuming some people will like them. The above Tiny Desk Concert is a great intro, even if Coco Bangs has since “self-deported” to Canada and been replaced by cardboard robot drum machine.

Poppet has a cute design and her story sounds neat! can you tell us about your swirly-eyed fraggle? they've got kind of a mad scientist vibe :>
His name is Gyro! ( like gyroscope, not like the food lol ) He runs this tiny fraggle colony out in the wild and they live in and around the roots of this huge tree that leads up to some public park in Outer Space. They see humans more up close and personal so they’re different from rock fraggles.
Tumblr media
He’s a control freak and wants to keep everyone in his home happy and safe so he just... never really lets anyone leave, visitors or not, thinking he knows best for everyone since he thinks Fraggle rock and the outside world is too dangerous with monsters and Gorgs. Pretty good at collaborating the human sciences he’s somewhat figured out and magic together but not so much at remembering others names, much less his own sometimes. Probably cause he keeps electrocuting himself with one of these

Hello from Myanmar!!
That’s right!! This little diaper boy is off on another exciting trip but don’t worry! I’m bringing you along with me!! I’m currently in Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma, which has the richest natural resources in Asia. They include huge amounts of super-sparkly things like of jade, sapphires, pearls, 90% of the world’s rubies, large amounts of non-sparkly things natural gas, and even oil. Unfortunately, due to grumpy people being in charge and not playing fair, Myanmar’s population is the second poorest nation in Asia. Despite this, Myanmar is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places to explore. Toots (my plushie froggie) is super-excited by all the new bugs he’s been eating here!
After arriving in Myanmar, one of the first places I explored was Ye Le Pagoda which is also known as the “Floating Temple”. This temple is in the middle of a river with fishies all around it!! The first temple here on this tiny island was built in the third century B.C. which is even older than any of the adults I know!! The only way to get to this Buddhist temple was to take a fun and bumpy boat across the raging river! One of the spirits that this pagoda is dedicated to is the Water Spirit. People feed the GIANT catfish who live in the river and some of them are over a meter long!! I got to feed them and it was lots and lots of fun. Don’t worry! I had adult supervision so I wouldn’t fall in!
My next stop was Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar, located right at the mouth of the Irrawaddy, the most important and biggerest river in the whole entire country. This is a city of extremes: new high-rise buildings alongside ancient golden pagodas and crumbling colonial buildings create the skyline. I visited Shwedagon Pagoda, the largest and most sacred pagoda in the country. There were a bazillion places to explore and even big lion statues to make friends with! Almost 90% of Myanmar’s people practice Buddhism, and many take pilgrimages to this site. The entire pagoda is covered in gold with precious jewels encrusting the top umbrella (though the umbrella wouldn’t do anyone any good if it rained except the birdies who were way up on top).
After enjoying Yangon, I boarded the boat where I’ll live on for fifteen days as we explore the Irrawaddy River. That’s right!! I get to live on a big boat with 40 other people!! The Irrawaddy is the major river in Myanmar which runs 2,170 kilometers (all the way from the sea almost to the Chinese border). Going upriver has been like travelling back in time. Wooden boats with fishermen working their homemade nets dot the water, villages on stilts  with palm leaf roofs and bamboo walls are seen on the eroding banks, and the occasional golden pagoda shines from a hillside or behind the ever-present farming fields that are tended by ox-driven plows. The silence is occasionally broken by ramshackle ships dredging the river for silt and gravel. All the people love to wave at me and I have fun waving back! I also love getting to visit the villages and say “Mangalaba” which means “Hello” in Burmese! It’s an amazing experience exploring this waterway!
Each of the villages, no matter how small, have fascinating markets! Wandering through them and finding fruits, vegetables, and meats you’d never find at home is exciting! Of course, you’d have to ask your mommy or daddy if you were allowed to eat anything cause otherwise you might not be happy. One day when it was pouring rain we were each given a list of items in Burmese from the ship and money to go to the market and attempt to do the shopping. It was so much fun! The locals laughed so much at our attempts at pronunciation, and the wild scavenger hunt of having no idea what the words on the list meant until they nodded and handed us an item. I wore my Fraggle Rock shirt cause they’re good at finding things! Once back onboard, we learned what the unusual leaves, fruits, gourds, and spices would be used for! It was a super-fun game and I loved meeting everyone in the market!
I’m going to be visiting Bagan next! I’ll write to you all about that and the other adventures in Myanmar in a week! Right now it’s bedtime for me cause I’m a sleepy little boy and the plushies need cuddles! Night Night!!!
HUGS!!

July has been a super hot month that has left me hanging out in a nice air conditioned apartment, reading many a book. It's been nice to have time to read again and I'm trying to take full advantage of it by reading as much as I can. Here's what I read this month:
Fairy Quest: Outlaws (Fairy Quest #1)
by Paul Jenkins & Humberto Ramos
Tumblr media
67 Pages
Fairy Quest is set in the world in Fablewood, where all of the stories that have ever been told live side-by-side. But it is a sinister place indeed. Under the watchful eye of the dreaded Mister Grimm and his Think Police, the characters must keep their story straight or risk having their minds wiped inside the Mind Eraser.
Despite this, Red Riding Hood and her Wolf (Red and Mister Woof) have become friends. And they are about to risk everything to try and escape from the clutches of their oppressors and find sanctuary in a mysterious place called the Real World. Red and Woof will undertake a difficult and perilous journey through all of Fablewood, hoping against all odds that they can remain as friends forever.
This was a great comic about fairy tale characters who no longer want to follow their stories, who want to live their own lives. It's a neat idea about taking your story into your own hands. I really enjoyed what they did with the characters and really need to get my hands on the next issue.
Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock: Journey to the Everspring #2
by Kate Leth & Jake Myler
Tumblr media
27 Pages
The Fraggles’ journey has led them to the mysterious Crystal Caves where creatures of all shapes and sizes await. They’ll need to rely on one another and maybe even sing a song or two if they’re going to make it through to the Everspring!
I wish these were a collection but I can only get it issue by issue, so it's hard to get a real feeling for the story when it's so spread out. This one was about overcoming fears and that it helps to be with friends. It's still always a fun, short read.
The Oracle Queen (Three Dark Crowns 0.1)
by Kendare Blake
Tumblr media

Triplet queens born on the island of Fennbirn can be many things: Elementals. Poisoners. Naturalists. If an oracle queen is born, however, one with the gift of sight, she’s immediately drowned, extinguishing her chance at ever taking the throne.
But that’s not how it always was. This cautionary practice started long ago, with Queen Elsabet—the legendary, and last, oracle queen—whose reign was tinged with blood and horror.
Paranoid, ruthless, and utterly mad, Elsabet’s mistrust led to the senseless slaying of three entire houses of innocent people. At least, that’s the unchallenged tale carried down from generation to generation. But what really happened? Discover the true story behind the queen who, though born with the gift of sight, could not foresee her swift and sudden fall from power . . . until it was too late.
Through out this series, they always talk about the Mad Queen, so I was excited to find this short novella about her. Then I was terribly disappointed with how the story revealed itself. I get trying to twist the story, but I really wanted what I thought the actual story. I think it would've been more amazing to see how the Queen actually went mad. I've been very disappointed with these short stories.
Power Up #1 (Power Up #1)
by Kate Leth & Matt Cummings

It has been foretold that four noble warriors of incredible strength would be gifted with cosmic abilities at a moment of planetary alignment...which, yeah, something definitely went wrong here. Amie is a disaffected twentysomething with a lot of attitude, Kevin is a washed-up athlete way past his prime, Sandy's a mother of two teenagers, and Silas...is a goldfish. Just a normal goldfish. Are we sure we read that prophecy right?
After reading The Fraggles, I wanted to see what else Kate Leth had done and I came across this fun comic about unlikely superheroes. This is also 1 issue at a time, but it's super cute and I want more and more of it!

The all-ages smash hit of the year is back with more algebraic adventures in the Land of Ooo!The all-ages hit of the year is back with a new volume collecting even more algebraic adventures! What happens when Finn the human and Jake the dog get a hold of Princess Bubblegum’s time machine and travel to go to the future? Find out in this second volume!
These are always fun and strange and that's just how I like them. This one dealt with the problems of time travel. That problem is robot revolution apparently, but it's still pretty awesome. I'm really enjoying this series and it holds up to the same fun and crazy as the tv show.
Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4)

83 Pages (23:30 Hours)
Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.
Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?
This was a great final book. I really enjoyed how everything came together, yet there where still so many twists and turns that I wasn't expecting. I loved all the character story arcs and would continue to read this story forever. This is the perfect example of what I want in retellings of fairy tales and I want MORE.

this was a sweet story about a boy who loved to wear dresses and the woman who loved and believed in him. I really, really enjoyed it and wish there were more stories like these. so much heart and desire and acceptance.
The Mermaid Chair
by Sue Monk Kidd
Tumblr media
368 Pages
Inside the abbey of a Benedictine monastery on tiny Egret Island, just off the coast of South Carolina, resides a beautiful and mysterious chair ornately carved with mermaids and dedicated to a saint who, legend claims, was a mermaid before her conversion.
Jessie Sullivan's conventional life has been "molded to the smallest space possible." So when she is called home to cope with her mother's startling and enigmatic act of violence, Jessie finds herself relieved to be apart from her husband, Hugh. Jessie loves Hugh, but on Egret Island-amid the gorgeous marshlands and tidal creeks-she becomes drawn to Brother Thomas, a monk who is mere months from taking his final vows.
What transpires will unlock the roots of her mother's tormented past, but most of all, as Jessie grapples with the tension of desire and the struggle to deny it, she will find a freedom that feels overwhelmingly right.
What inspires the yearning for a soul mate? Few writers have explored, as Kidd does, the lush, unknown region of the feminine soul where the thin line between the spiritual and the erotic exists.
The Mermaid Chair is a vividly imagined novel about the passions of the spirit and the ecstasies of the body; one that illuminates a woman's self-awakening with the brilliance and power that only a writer of Kidd's ability could conjure.
I love Sue Monk Kidd and I've always wanted to read this book, but could never find a copy of it. Turns out my mom had a copy of it and gave it to me. This was a lovely story that I wasn't expecting. I shouldn't be surprised, since I've love every other book of hers that I've read. Although the story is about a woman who falls in love with a Monk, but the story of her finding  and freeing herself from who she use to be is the one that I really love. I just fall into her writing and don't ever want to come back out.

She fled to save her life, but surviving what comes next might destroy everything she believes in…
The royal witches of Anglion have always been bound to serve their country. But Lady Sophia Mackenzie, whose unbound magic and near claim to the crown made her a target, was forced to flee Anglion, leaving behind a dead assassin and shattered loyalties. Now she finds herself in Illvya, where the magic is everything she’s been taught to fear and the only person she can trust is her new husband, Cameron.
Sophia and Cameron must navigate a strange world of illicit temptations, dangerous threats and political intrigue, where as a royal witch Sophia is both prized and reviled.
As she begins to master her powers, the factions seeking to control Sophia close in, and her magical and emotional bonds with Cameron are pushed to the limit. To survive long enough to claim the future she seeks, she may have to choose between love and loyalty, and hope the price of her choice is one she can bear.
I read the first book in this series years ago and only found out that it had a sequel recently, and only on ebook. Although I barely remember the first book, I got into the second one with only a little difficulty. I was worried that it was going to turn into another magical school book, but I'm glad that it didn't. It actually got pretty interesting and I was frustrated when I found out that there was going to be another book, but with no publishing date or info on it. I may never know how it turns out.
Cruel Crown (Red Queen 0.1-0.2)
by Victoria Aveyard

Discover the truth of Norta’s bloody past in these two revealing prequels to #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestseller RED QUEEN.
Queen Song
Queen Coriane, first wife of King Tiberias, keeps a secret diary—how else can she ensure that no one at the palace will use her thoughts against her? Coriane recounts her heady courtship with the crown prince, the birth of a new prince, Cal, and the potentially deadly challenges that lie ahead for her in royal life.
Steel Scars
Captain Farley was raised to be strong, but being tasked with planting the seeds of rebellion in Norta is a tougher job than expected. As she travels the land recruiting black market traders, smugglers, and extremists for her first attempt at an attack on the capital, she stumbles upon a connection that may prove to be the key to the entire operation—Mare Barrow.
This was 2 books in 1 and both were vastly different. The first story was amazing and I really loved following Queen Coriane and her real/imagined downward spiral. It gave a lot of depth as a background story. The second story on the other hand, was vastly different. Farley's story is annoying and filled with missives back and forth with all the credentials and classifieds and blah blah blah over and over again as they pass messages. It was hard to listen to over and over for very small messages. It made me want to switch over to another book. But I didn't and the story was okay.

I love the new Doozers in this issue. I think they are super cute and I love all the machines that they've made.

When rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers threaten the tenuous peace alliance between Earth and Luna, Iko takes it upon herself to hunt down the soldiers' leader. She is soon working with a handsome royal guard who forces her to question everything she knows about love, loyalty, and her own humanity. With appearances by Cinder and the rest of the Rampion crew, this is a must-have for fans of the series.
I was so excited to learn that the story wasn't completely over yet and that it was taking the time to give Iko her own plot line. Reading it in a comic style was nice after both reading and listening to this story. I'm interested in seeing where this story goes now.

Six-Gun Snow White
by Catherynne M. Valente
Tumblr media
154 Pages
A New York Times bestselling author offers a brilliant reinvention of one of the best-known fairy tales of all time with Snow White as a gunslinger in the mythical Wild West.
Forget the dark, enchanted forest. Picture instead a masterfully evoked Old West where you are more likely to find coyotes as the seven dwarves. Insert into this scene a plain-spoken, appealing narrator who relates the history of our heroine’s parents—a Nevada silver baron who forced the Crow people to give up one of their most beautiful daughters, Gun That Sings, in marriage to him.
Although her mother’s life ended as hers began, so begins a remarkable tale: equal parts heartbreak and strength. This girl has been born into a world with no place for a half-native, half-white child. After being hidden for years, a very wicked stepmother finally gifts her with the name Snow White, referring to the pale skin she will never have.
Filled with fascinating glimpses through the fabled looking glass and a close-up look at hard living in the gritty gun-slinging West, this is an utterly enchanting story . . . at once familiar and entirely new.
This was a great retelling of Snow White. I was expecting it to be a little immature, but it wasn't at all. In fact, I would say it dealt with some really heavy concepts. I enjoyed that the 7 dwarves were actually 7 strong women who wanted to be left alone by the rest of the world. The ending was really strange and abrupt, but the rest was really good.
The Night Circus
by Erin Morgenstern
387 Pages (13:40 Hours)
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love - a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I really didn't, which was too bad. This book could've been really good and there were parts that were, but the story was so spread out and the years jumped around so much that it was hard to follow or to ever really get a feeling for anyone's character.
