Welcome to Madison Square Park which has existed as a public space since 1686. Named for President James Madison in 1814, Madison Square was formally opened as a public park in 1847. The Park has a rich history, it’s the birthplace of baseball and home to the first community holiday tree in America. in the park you will meet Roscoe Conkling, a lawyer in the late 1800’s and a politician from New York who served both as a member of the US House of Representatives and the Senate. He was the leader of the Stalwart faction of the Republican Party and was elected to the Senate in 1867 as a leading Radical, who supported the rights of African Americans during Reconstruction. You will also meet William Henry Seward who was US Secretary of State from 1861 to 1869, and served as governor of New York and a US Senator. Flashback to a couple weeks ago when my daughter Natalia went on her first big trip without her family to Mexico no less! She traveled with her classmate/friend and her mother to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico for a week during winter break. I tried the Popeyes Spicy Chicken Sandwich today and it delivered deliciousness as promised. I would have like it if it was a whole lot spicier but the crust and chicken were perfect.
