An independent Courier would actually hate being in charge or enforcing standards in New Vegas. At least in my mind.
They made Vegas independent but I feel like that playthrough/style so clearly makes it apparent it isn't for them. They are making Vegas a place where people can live freely, like how House genuinely didn't care what people did but without the behind-the-scenes Big Brother surveillance he did. Having every family, faction, and other influence group or person comes to them about alliances or rules would be draining, and boring, one note.
In an independent Vegas, The Courier is also Independent. They like getting rid of lines and borders that impede freedom, they like to help give people the tool but I don't believe they want to be the one to shape it.
#a lot of this is like how ncr started but then lost its way#the courier would like a democracy but like one that is truly run by the people like if public votes or letting people split off and embrac#their traditions instead of a universal standard like house changing the tribes caesar wiping out so many cultures and the ncr whole thing#with their money being worthless in territories they have not taken control over cause people dont want to#the courier doesnt want to be house 2.0 and i see that so often in peoples interpretations of that ending and I just dont think its the cas#like theyd stay to help it stablize for a but ultimately i think theyd leave to clean up any loose ends or just travel the mojave like#a lot of the dialouge good or evil is very much like the courier doesnt want the responsiblity to be placed on them rather they choose what#they want to take on that is not presented in sort of a scenerio where they losely rule NV cause everyone else would go to them even if the#say they arent in charge#i at least for the follower quest tell them their choices are theirs and no one elses so i see that as their outlook so im biased#cause im also good karma just for how nice I am and I like doing crazy adventure shit and its actually hard to have fun when everyone hates#you for being legion#anyway make of this what you will#fallout#fallout new vegas#fnv#the courier#courier six#courier fnv#the strip fnv#robert edwin house#caesar’s legion#new california republic#independent vegas

I’ve been collecting all of the companions in New Vegas and just taking them up to my suite in the Lucky 38…. So all I can imagine is Victor standing there seeing me walk in with yet another wasteland citizen and being like “ANOTHER ONE???”
gotcha nuts and bolts. Nobody has been allowed into the Lucky 38 in 200 years? Well I’m bringing everybody!!!

my modern kotor au no one asked for:
set in and around las vegas, split between rival spice running mobs the revanchists and the mandalorians, the law of the republic, and encroaching group the sith
on top of leading the revanchists revan is also a undefeated street racer (motorcycle helmet = revan mask). they still cut malak's jaw off bc thats very sexy of them
canderous starts out as a mando thug but after having to survive on the run with revan for a bit he and the revanchists establish a working relationship once he takes over
atton is a cardshark / gas station employee trying to avoid detection after defecting from the revanchists
the ebon hawk is a fucked up volkswagon van. license plate EBNHAWK. it is ugly as shit.
T3 is a shih tzu and HK is revan's beloved doberman pinscher
mira is still a bounty hunter. she wears a lot of camo cargo pants
mission is just some kid that revan took a liking to and took under their wing. can't decide if zalbaar is a newfoundland or a full lumberjack human man
juhani is a member of revan's new crew after leaving the city goverment
carth is like. a cop or something. he would be. bastila might also start as one and then get pulled into the life. or she's some psychologist/social worker who is consulting after being entrusted with an amnesiac revan's care
disciple is a history grad student who recently moved into the area and started going to the casinos. actually an undercover republic agent trying to catch them in a sting operation. brianna is a spy sent in by atris, who's part of the city government
visas is a sith assassin thats causing problems for the revanchists and destabilizing them
bao dur. beloved mechanic. used to be part of the revanchist crew but he's since left and mostly spends his time living in the desert and defending the land from developers
goto is also there ig but everyone's too busy for that
kreia is completely unchanged and she still has the force. no one questions that she is the only one operating under star wars rules. she still wants the death of the force and no one understands what that means except for the exile who had a really bad spice trip and now has a harry du bois understanding that theyre in a fictional reality

I've long had this idea of doing a Legion playthrough and making the Courier a Decanus who was always second-guessing the Legion after being brought into it at about ten because they were born to the NCR.
And then they get sent out by the Frumentarii who they consider themself the other half of- Vulpes.
And it's like they're caught between worlds, the two. Vulpes is loyal to the Legion, but he cannot be the Frumentarii he is without HIS Decanus.
And the Decanus doesn't want to be Legion, has always silently seethed at the violence, but doesn't want to be without THEIR Frumentarii.

i just think it would be really really funny if the king looked ex-fucking-zactly like his namesake BECAUSE— hear me out— a recurring theme in fallout is people and societies thinking they're doing Hot New Shit, and No One's Ever Done It Like This, and These Ancient Problems Are Both New And Solvable. which as we know is false because war never changes and neither does a lot of other stuff. so i think the logical extension of that is people in the new vegas area being like. have you seen this guy? he's this totally new unique guy. there's never been a guy like this one. when in fact he's exactly like The Guy Of All Time and his face is already on shirts and mugs and keychains and album covers across the city. idk. i enjoy the juxtaposition of how hard the king has had to bust his ass to make a name for himself and get any semblance of order in freeside with the fact that he's already got his own merchandise

Also, considering the art in All Roads, how big do you think the Strip actually is? Are there any other super successful casinos? Personally I like to imagine that the Three Families own a small spider-web network of casinos and funnel the caps from the smaller casinos back into their 'main' businesses (i.e. Gomorrah, The Tops, etc.) Like they keep those extra casinos they own small so they're the biggest and most attractive places for outsiders...
So like my honest thought before I played FNV was that the strip was like the Lucky 38 y'know. It was confusing as my only frame of reference for anything was Stupendium's fan song but I thought it was like this massive structure guarding the strip that had House's lair at the epicenter.
The strip to me is like massive and rather than just casinos there's like other big city Vegas-like attractions like whatever the apocalyptic version of a mega mall or fair would be. Like Coney Island if it wasn't near water. As for the families' casinos, I do imagine they are the only ones due to their theming and the novelty. If there's a dozen or even a handful of mini replicas then why bother with the big ones if you can just get the experience cheaper somewhere else? I think it would be like Freeside in that there's major shops like Mick and Ralph's or the Silver Rush and then things tied to the Vegas theming like Vault 21.
The Strip is honestly not super impressive to me other than the connotations it has in the canon of being a super-developed time capsule in the Mojave. It's like really empty and I know a big part of that fact is it had to be scaled down due to crunch time and console limitations. Its main point is to be shiny and alluring and it does that but it's rather mundane in terms of things there. It lacks the city part of Las Vegas like the part where I can see people living there that are disillusioned by it not because they lost their money but because the glitz and glamour mean nothing if it's your day-to-day life but different than the casino families.
To me it's massive and I like the comic's depiction better cause it makes it seem like a city rather than just a glorified street.

“It always feels really wierd whenever you have to murder mr. House, and not just because of the fact he's a corpse in a tube. You're essentially erasing someone, his dream of vegas, his prospects for the future, his determination to save even a fraction of mankind. You're rendering all his efforts null. You steal that from him, and what's worse is that you have the option to let him simmer with it. If you leave him alive after you expose him to germs, he's basically catatonic. All he can do is be trapped in his own mind until he eventually and slowly dies within a year from exposure. It's... tragic. I liked house a lot, but I killed him in a yes man run of the game, and after I'd done that, I felt as if I'd done something monstrously evil.”

Arcade: So, one of Caesar's most notorious Legion spies is walking around the strip... Vulpes: I haven’t the slightest idea to what you could mean... Arcade: Right, well in that case allow me to extend an olive branch. Or a drink, rather. After all, what patron of the strip would turn down a free drink? Vulpes: Am I to look forward to your displeasure when I accept such a bluff? Arcade: Oh, on the contrary, Mr. Fox. I expect it to be most insightful. Shall we? Vulpes: By all means... Lead the way.

it’s actually not that hard to kill all the legionaries at nipton if you walk backwards while they all follow you in a straight line and you just don’t stop shooting
i was like fuck this guy !!!! now i’m like fuck this guy
