Dead Fandom - Should You Even Bother?

The TSP RP fandom used to be incredibly active but life and dwindling interest has deactivated a lot of blogs, leaving only few roleplayers remaining, bravely writing through the drought, believing that one day, we might get another influx of new blogs to carry us through the year.

But seriously, if you want to roleplay for TSP, don't let the low activity discourage you. There will always be at least one person (most likely me) who will stubbornly continue on writing.

If you find yourself lacking in TSP partners, you can expand to other fandoms. The Stanley Parable famously gets along with other games, media and meta-narratives, so try your luck!

Yes! Another Narrator Concept! Hear me out though.

This is the result of post-skip button ending. The long passage of time deteriorated Narrator’s usual levels of power, and his form got smaller and less distinct. So, to fix this when Stanley returned and the reset kicked in, Narrator had to be in the room with Stanley to SEE him now. But he tries to stay out of sight to avoid sullying the experience, even tho the bright yellow flashes in the corners of his eyes are clearly baffling Stanley. (It also helps Narrator’s newfound separation anxiety to be so close to his protagonist after so long).

Stanley slowly awoke and stared at the monitor on his desk, perplexed by the by the new screen that had appeared on it. He’d never seen anything like this in any previous restarts-- was it some strange bug no one had spotted before? Or a secret he hadn’t been told about? He turned his head to the ceiling before he spoke. “Hey, James? Is this... supposed to be happening? I... I don’t know if I wanna try messing with it.”

There was a very faint response, voices almost drowned out by the sounds of movement. “...Are you sure you turned the mic off?” A young man asked, and The Narrator answered “Oh, yes, yes. Stanley’s asleep at his desk again, I didn’t want to risk waking him. He’s earned it, I think.”

“Uh, wait, guys, I’m not--” He quickly gave up on trying to speak with them, turning back to the computer. He reluctantly approached, hovering his hands over the keyboard as he tried to decide what to do.

The Stanley Parable Worldbuilding

How do you worldbuild for your TSP blog? Remember that these are all just guidelines NOT rules. You can change anything, twist things around, delete or add stuff to your heart's content!

Important Note: You do not have to know all of these things immediately. Take your time discovering who your muse is and the world around them, answers might come to you hours, days, weeks or months after you started roleplaying!

Let's start with the basics. There's

The Protagonist (usually but not always Stanley)

The Narrator

The Story (add/change it as you wish, more endings, less endings, make it spooky, silly, romantic, weird)

The Office (feel free to add, delete or change as many rooms as you like)

Who is your protagonist? If it's not Stanley, did they replace him or has Stanley ever existed to begin with? How did they end up here? How much do they know?

Who is your Narrator? Why do they narrate? Do they have a choice? Did they write the Parable? Are they the only Narrator? What is their relationship to the Protagonist?

What is your Story like? Is it the same Story as the Game? Is it a Game, a Story, a TV Show, a dream, a pocket reality? Does it have more or less endings than the original? Is it about Stanley? Is there a Story at all or did the Narrator stop telling it?

What is your Office like? Is it a normal Office? Does it restart people who have died? Does it wipe memories from its inhabitants? Does it have a Line™? Is it sentient? Does it open doors on its own or does the Narrator control everything? Is it like a video game or like a haunted house? Does the exit work? Can people leave whenever they want?

If you want, you can also go into more details such as

Do you have a second Narrator (female or otherwise)?

Is there someone controlling the Parable and the Narrator(s)?

If it's a game, are there developers? Players? An audience?

What happened to Employee 432?

What happened to the Protagonist's coworkers?

What is the driving force behind the Parable, if there is one at all? Does it demand to be told?

Does your world crossover with any other fandoms or ocs?

...OK, something was up.

Narrator loosely knew the routine of Tuesday was a lazy day, a full 24 of nothing until Wednesday rolled over, and then like clockwork, it was back to the usual routine of at least TRYING to tell the story.

But today WASN'T Tuesday.

One may think that simply Stanley thought it was Tuesday, but no, Stanley was very consistent when it was Tuesday. He very much kept track, even better than Narrator could on occasion. And even when Narrator voiced that it wasn't Tuesday, still nothing.

OK, Stanley, Narrator called out from above Stanley's co-workers' desks out in the hall, it isn't Tuesday today, we needn't stand around your desk for... God, an hour by now? OK that's it.

Narrator swapped the cameras in the Narration Room to flip to the remaining employee's starting room, and his voice rang out from above. Stanley, what is going on with-? His voice caught in his throat for but a moment.

( hiya! welcome to my pinned post; for clarification: this is a stanley parable oc roleplay account! this blog and it’s creator is entirely fictitious— everything that’s on this blog is in character. )

» about the quizmaster:

the quizmaster is an entity similar to the narrator; they usually spend their days surveying the employees of the company, conducting short quizzes relating to improvement of the quality of life in the workplace.

however, they also double as a creative consultant for the narrator. they give him critiques on how to improve his story— not just objectively and morally, but also for him and stanley. ( however, this can be manipulated/removed depending on what an rp calls for! )

the quizmaster, all-in-all, is somewhat of the class clown of the workplace. although they’re running on espresso alone, they still have that theatre kid punch of energy, and it shows no signs of fading.

I have to say, as a Stanley Parable fan, it’s kinda disappointing that there isn’t a single TSP rp blog out there (that I have seen) that has actual TSP content. What I mean is, nobody has Narrators who actually narrate for other people’s muses anymore. There were a few in the beginning, but not anymore. It feels like such a wasted opportunity, and wasted fun.

Are there any such TSP blogs out there? I’d really like to rp with you!

It's one week until Valentine's and I think it would be fun if we did something to help boost the TSP RP community!
