So I finally finished Power of Shazam
I have mixed feelings about it, while I am glad Ordway made sure not to let it fall into the Grim n Gritty style popular in the 90s. He kinda missed the mark with some of the characters. I've already mentioned how I felt about he characterized Bulletman and Ibis the Invincible. But after reading some more Captain Marvel Jr. comics it feels really out of character for Freddy to be a Casanova-type and fighting with Billy when he asks Mary out on a date.
I did love how Shazam became a grandfather to Billy and even left the Rock of Eternity to watch over him. Spy Smasher and Minute Man were fine and I do have issue #24 where he helps protect Billy's Father and love the Captain Marvel serial referrence with the Scorpion weapon.
It was a mistake to kill off Susan Kent-Barr and Brian Butler offscreen because a lot of what made Bulletman appealing was that it was a superhero couple series and Susan was pretty cool. Not to mention I wanna see an older Brian Butler interacting with the Marvel Family. Bummer that the series got cancelled before we saw more of Pinky as Mr. Scarlet. Although I can't really see him have a pencil mustache.

Folks, remember Daxiong’s DC variants he with with AI? DC quietly confirmed he did use AI, they cancelled the variants, and replaced them with cover art made by actual artists
I found a few small sources confirming this, along with the new covers created by actual artists
Wonder Woman #10: Daxiong —> Dan Panosian
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shazam #12: Daxiong —> Cully Hamner

Power Girl #10: Daxiong —> Dave Johnson

I’m glad DC cancelled the original covers. It’s not worth buying art of any kind if no one spent the time to actually make them. These new variants being made by actual artists are a million times better for that reason alone, that real human artists put their time into making them, and not AI stealing from what has already been created.

dpxdc prompt:
danny is a fully grown adult now, but his ghost form hasn't changed at all. it still looks 14 years old. stuck in the hazmat suit he died in.
he joins the justice league as phantom.
he never tells them that his powers are ghost powers, or that he's half ghost.
when they finally find out his civilian identity, they assume he's basically just reverse shazam.
instead of a child turning into a super powered adult, it's an adult turning into a super powered child.
both danny and billy have to activate it by saying a very specific word/phrase. ("shazam", or "going ghost") (this is very much not true. danny can just transform without saying it, but they've never seen him do it)

Do you think Billy Batson is allowed to enter Olympus???
Would Zeus vouch for him and let him in?
Is there a door in the Rock of Eternity that opens up to Olympus?
Just imagine. This small boy in a red sweater, walking into Olympus, surrounded by ethereal and immortal gods and goddesses, just to like, pick some nice flowers for his adopted mom on Mother's Day. Or, maybe he's having lunch with some gods or deities, like that one comic panel where Billy is eating ice cream on the moon with powerful mages/people.
Would Billy Batson share a pizza with Hades? Would he have lemonade with Hera? Would Billy invite Mary to have breakfast with Artemis and Apollo?
There are so many questions, and not enough time in the day to write a cute little domestic fic about Billy Batson and his adventures in Olympus.
