#the noldo are lowkey colonizers in this aspect
Text
Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but i genuinly don’t believe that any of the noldor had any claim to any land in middle earth when they came from valinor.
Like, yeah, their ancestors lived there, but they left voluntarily, and the current noldor were not raised in a manner that would have preserved middle-earthian traditions or anything. They straight up just do not have a connection to beliriand or middle earth as a whole other than “my ancestor came from these lands”.
So i get so pissed sometimes at that fact that the noldor just- took over so much of beliriand, just claimed it as their own, like they had a right to it when they don’t.
Like, the whole silmaril bs aside, i get why some sindar despised the noldor, like “you came to my house, you are taking my stuff and you have the audacity to tell me what to do?!?”
And there’s this like “holier than though” attitude that i read from their actions, as if being from valinor makes them better?
Like, bitch you didn’t even know how to use a sword until what, 2 years before you came here? In comparison to those of us who’ve never left ME and have been using them for thousands of years??
Like, i understand that the noldor wanted to escape valinor and I sympathize with it. I even understand and sympathize with the fact that the silmarils belonged to the feanorians, even though the sindar stole it from mrogpth.
But just like how the silmaril belonged to feanor and his sons, even though the sindar took it from morgoth, the land belonged to the sindar and the avari and the green elves and just all the elves from ME, even though the noldor decided to set up shop.
Like, the noldor did good things, and they did help keep morgoth at abay for a little while. None of that erases the fact that the land they occupied they had no claim to.
