Peter Cushing is an interesting case. You probably first see him as Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars, but if you look at the rest of his career it's just the wildest horror films you can imagine.

Wow. I got the Kino Lorber Blu-ray of this movie. This rounds off my Burke and Hare film collection. I can’t honestly say this trumps Val Lewton’s Body Snatcher, but it was definitely more sinister and ghoulish than the more black comedy Burke and Hare of the 70’s. In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen a more grim film with Peter Cushing as the star since the grindhouse film he starred in called Corruption. FatF was very atmospheric and dark while it was incredible to see a young Donald Pleasence really flaunt his sadistic side. Loved it! I recommend to the classic horror fan, the Cushing and Pleasence lover, and everyone that prefers that not all films are transferred to HD in color.

what is it about the burke and hare case that made actors of the twentieth century give the performances of a lifetime

#boris karloff as cabman john gray in the body snatcher (1945) you will always be famous. something about the complete brutality / the #comradely manner and grin on the backdrop of karloff’s innately fluid / elegant acting style #and peter cushing in the flesh and the fiends (1960) #‘the good doctor’ janus-faced was a role he did so well regardless of time or context. and which he clearly contemplated so deeply #anyway. resurrectionists eh
