I'm back to rant about more winter thoughts. So I thought more about the VA's voice for her and how the VA thought "will my voice really suit that character" lol but eventho I would prefer winter with a deeper voice (she has moments in the manga when she would suit a stronger voice imo, like when she snaps at milo) I think it shows her softer side well (especially towards alice) and is a nice contrast. This got me thinking about soft winter and you know those people who grab onto others jacket or hoodie sleeves (me) yeah I just think that would make winter go really soft!! Allow me the indulgence!! Also just think about her voice (like her VA or something a bit different) but with a British accent! After all most of the characters (the moriarty's, Spitz, Elmer) have British accents. Just thinking about it makes me ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ. OH! You know now that I think about it I think the VAs who voiced James Bonde/Irene Adler from Moriarty the Patriot would suit winter nicely too! That's kind of the voice I imagined tbh!
Lol, I wait for these every day! ๐Ÿ˜‚ There's really no one else I can go crazy about Winter with.
You're right! Her voice really does match the soft side of Winter! Uhhhhggg, now you got me thinking about soft Winter!!!!! ๐Ÿ™ˆ Ahhhhh my hearts going to explode!!!!! I'm definitely one who would grab the bottom of a shirt/jacket, or the back! When we pull on Winter's clothes, she would be like, "what do you want?" With a tone that sounds a little annoyed, but actually isn't. Then I would at least stay silent/flustered, or say "nothing...." Then Winter would huff and a couple things could happen! Either she'd get flustered herself, or she'd just say/do nothing and walk off with us in tow (to hide her flustered state), ooooo maybe if we're SUPER close with her, she'd take our hand and hold it in hers while looking away!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ Not gonna lie, I love the, "I wanna hold your hand, but I don't want others seeing us hold hands, so I'mma just link one finger with yours" trope. Ooooo, would Winter's hands be cold or warm???? I'd say cold, but only because I automatically associate her with anything that metaphorically deals with the winter season.
I've thought about the British accent and pictured her with it so many times!!!! I've also researched a tiny bit to figure out how the English differ in speaking to Americans (idk if this is accurate, but I saw somewhere, that they say cuppa instead of "a cup of tea" and I started crying so hard when I read that, cause it was sooooo cute!!!!! I imagined Winter saying it and I cried even more!!! I thought I was gonna die from the cuteness!)! There was so much information, I got a little overwhelmed, but at some point, I'm going to write a story where you can tell Winter speaks in a British accent! Also, I've spoken with someone from Britain and her accent doesn't sound like what you hear on TV! If I remember correctly, it's because she's from the country and the higher class citizens are the ones who have a stronger accent (someone, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!). The Moriarty's would DEFINITELY be high class, so they'd have strong accents! ๐Ÿ˜† Idk what kind of family Spitz comes from, but I can see him being lower class, so he wouldn't have a heavy accent (from the recent arc, Night and Alyssa would have heavy accents, the security guard's accent would be so heavy it'd be hard to understand him, I can see Chelsea and Yudi not having as heavy of accents and I think Hutter and Marsh can go both ways.).
Since Winter is really good at disguises, I'm sure she'd be good at accents, so sometimes, I picture us going up to my friends and playing tricks on them by Winter pretending to be a different person and see how long we can trick my friends into thinking Winter is somebody else. I also think Winter would have random (fake) business cards on her and if we ever ran into a business man, she'd pretend she was also trying to promote her (again fake) business. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Also, it doesn't really matter, but I thought Elmer was American? Or is he just working in America?
I've actually only seen the dub for Moriarty The Patriot, so idk how he/she sounds in Japanese. The dub sounds pretty good for if that VA ever voiced Winter (not gonna lie, when I was trying to convince myself Winter was a guy, as a joke, I said Howard Wang could voice Winter, because if he had to do a little girls voice, he could hit it perfectly. ๐Ÿ˜‚ He's voiced cross dressing men and sounds exactly like a girl!).

titane thoughts
- i'm not a carfucker so like the synopsis & concept of the film itself wasn't that compelling to me on paper BUT i'm trying to actually watch the stuff people recommend to me more often & i really liked Raw so i thought i'd give it a chance. and i ended up liking it way more than i thought so :)
- anyways the dance sequence set to doing it to death - the kills at the beginning is what sold me on it. the dizzying close-up shots with the zoom-out on the crowd at the end, alexia's gold two-piece set with the neon fishnets, the women dancing while men are watching both them and the car with the same gaze...... gorgeous.
- that's the only needledrop i recognized but the rest of the soundtrack suited the moments well. also the sound editing itself was so well-done? like that moment when alexia stabs the guy in the ear and the sound dulls out while we watch him die.
- that said, the stabbing in the ear reminded me of aomame's killing method in 1Q84 lol
- the serial killing made sense to me! we get to alexia at the tail end of her career, when she's grown more accustomed to killing & is getting reckless w it. she probably started when some dude gave her grief & she had to get rid of him for her safety, then kept going when that worked (the TV said 4 men had died). she doesn't have a high regard for other people's lives, and i think when she gets comfortable killing for her safety she gets comfortable killing for stress relief (like when she killed her date after she couldn't abort her baby - the rest of the housemates were collateral damage).
- i don't think the titanium plate had anything to do with the serial killing actually. from when she's a child alexia's shown to be impulsive, and it probably grew into inconsiderateness as she grew older & her parents didn't care for her like she needed. like i think it made her fertile for car sperm but the serial killing is separate from that.
- the pregnancy horror was really interesting to me. i think it contrasts with say Lyle or Rosemary's Baby because in those films, the babies are wanted, and the pregnancy turning sinister wrecks plans for the future. alexia does NOT want this baby, but the pregnancy turning sinister is what makes her accept them. i will be thinking about this more.
- i don't think i "got" this film in the end bc i didn't really care emotionally about her connection to the dad. i wanted to know more about the serial killing and the pregnancy horror. the version of the film i would've found more cathartic would've had alexia & the dad fight it out at the end i think. but i do like intellectually how this ending wraps up the themes.
- the scene where alexia dances on top of the firetruck is so clever & gorgeous. like in the beginning she's surrounded by cars and men, but she's not trying to look sexy, she's dancing for herself and no one else, and the men are Seeing him apart from the truck and even if they think he's goofy he doesn't have to worry about it.
- maybe my ears don't work right but i swear at the end of the movie the dad calls his kid "alicia" not "alexia". if i'm right that's kinda neat: even though he's supposed to know his true identity then, he still gets it wrong, but it still doesn't matter.
ok that's the important stuff ๐Ÿ˜Œ

I LOVE COLA LOSERS - HERES WHY
This is a long essay-ish thing that dives a bit into my thoughts about Cola Losers, analysing the two boys dynamic and it's potential for Eduardos characterization. This is in no way linked to the actual real life people involved, but only the cartoon characters.
1. EDUARDO - PRE/POST-LEGACY
Pre-legacy Eduardo (as seen mainly in Hammer & Fail) is the perfect flat mean girls parody character. He comes off though as much more catty than your TV show bully, especially when he is constantly looking for a new way to make fun of Edds crew with his friends Jon and Mark. At the same time, he's still intended to be Edds counterpart - often seen in green and drinking diet cola. This similarity yet also laced with major differences causes ire from Edd, who views him with comedic contempt.
Pre-legacy Eduardo is a good example of Eddsworld constantly using (and sometimes twisting) well-known tropes in fun ways to generate more laughs. The neighbors fills a fun and vital role in the Eddsworld ecosystem.
Legacy however takes him into a different direction. According to the legacy documentary, Paul Ter Voorde had noticed some liking for Eduardo and chose it as a chance to expand on his character. Legacy offers us a way to view Eduardo beyond the intended flatness of his pre-legacy self, opening up a chance for a bit more nuance and depth to be added to him.
2. POWEREDD AND EDUARDOS INSECURITY
Tumblr media
PowerEdd is the legacy episode (and probably the episode in the whole series) that focuses on Eduardo the most, especially as he features as the villain. Poweredd in my eyes delves into 2 ways to interpret Eduardos characterization (and his insecurity) here. One i'd like to think of as the "pre-legacy inspired" and the other one as "legacy inspired".
| PRE-LEGACY INSPIRED; This interpretation relies on PowerEdd being a parodic exploration on superhero tropes - Eduardos disproportionate reaction to his "backstory" pokes fun of dramatic villain backstories by making Eduardos motive for his grudge seem like a silly and small thing. The episode itself is seen here as a humorous take on the superpowers trope and fits into that framework. This view relies upon the knowledge of Eduardos role in pre-legacy.
|LEGACY-INSPIRED; This takes Paul Ter Voordes statement of Eduardo into account. PowerEdd could be seen as a genuine attempt at lampshading Eduardos insecurity and his struggle with possible low self esteem. These aspects together create a superiority/inferiority complex of the highest caliber.
Eduardos behavior fits into that idea (seeing as he acts tougher than he is now in contrast to his meeker past self, goes extremely far to protect his pride as to try to destruct the source of his anxiety, makes his peers also act uncharacteristic which fails i.e Jon etc.)
It's a rather well-known phenomena in psychology that the individual who often feels a threat towards their sense of self (and thus security) uses a illusion of a tougher, more intimidating facade in order to feel comfortable with themselves.
Tumblr media
The main argument here is that PowerEdd is not making fun of Eduardos superiority/inferiority complex, but rather tries to lampshade it and imply that this seemingly innocous event is not the /major/ cause of his insecurity, but rather the single drop that filled the glass over. Since i dont wanna base too much on assumptions, i wont expand on what these other possible events could be. But in the end, the result is quite obvious; it makes Eduardo go in a constant frenzy to prove himself superior to Edd at all times. He projected all his insecurities into this single event where his artwork came in second place, and the person who won over him.
Tumblr media
3. HOW THIS ASPECT IS DEALT WITH
In their final confrontation in Poweredd, Edd questions Eduardos motivation for his actions. Edd (the audience proxy in this case) dont react though with mocking this reason or laughing at it. Edd actually takes it seriously and even apologizes for what he did, realising that the seemingly innocous action ended up being part of something bigger and more harmful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fully throws a confused Eduardo off, who had (most likely) been expecting a offensive reaction that'd validate his paranoia. But this doesn't happen. The narrative takes his frustration seriously, which is what i find so interesting and likeable about it. This so large seeming conflict diffuses so quickly because of Edds sincerity, a underexplored yet charming quality about him.
4. EDD IS NOT MUCH OF A THREAT
What made Eduardo waver and change his mind? He reaches the epiphany that Edds way too much of a dumbass to be a threat at all. Eduardo had been trying so hard the whole to prove himself to someone, to /something/ as being the better one. However, the real fool was Eduardo himself.
Edd is the furtherest from a threat that you can imagine. Honestly, he never really intentionally targets Eduardo with malicious intent (definitely prone to teasing though lol), and it's often the result of Eduardos own actions than anything else. Edd mostly minds his own businiess, and is upon a second look a rather sensible guy.
It makes Eduardo feels stupid for misjudging him, and you know he reaches that conclusion since he goes as far as to use up his last bunch of powers to defend Edd.
Tumblr media
5. COLA LOSERS (ENCORE)
Tumblr media
I felt like i wanted to establish all the points from earlier since they play a significant role to the way i view Edd and Eduardos dynamic. Edds relaxed and casual demeanor contrasts amusingly to Eduardos high-strung, much more neurotic tendencies. This difference makes for a surface-level funny competetive dynamic.
However, Edd is hardly a malicious person. He's not someone who actively tries to taunt Eduardo in a way intended to cause genuine harm. He's a bit silly and stupid, and his taunting of Eduardo is more based in neighbor shenegians rather than anything else. The whole point is that Edd could actually do more positive than negative for Eduardo - he can engage in a rivalry with him, but one that Eduardos actually comfortable with. Especially since by the end of PowerEdd, you can notice Eduardo clearly has nothing against Edd anymore (though still finds him annoying lol).
Tumblr media
Something i rarely see mentioned when people talk about these two is that if they got to engage further in Eddsworld minus the grudge, Eduardo could actually make a change for the better and get something better from it. Not to mention, it hardly has to be a full on competition all the time - they could have moments where they're more friendly only to go back to being rivals again.
TDLR: I really love Cola Losers.

Why Jillian Sucks
Hi, welcome to Odyssey Mystery Hour! I'm your host @gritsandbrits and today I'll be talking about a hot topic in the AIO fandom! Wanna know the tea? Keep on reading!
In the weeks I started getting back into the radio series, the newer episodes have started to irk me, mostly because of one of the more annoying additions: Jillian. Marshall. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Even though I ship Jason with my self insert OC this not going to be about her. There's a lot of reasons why I do NOT like the idea of Jillian x Jason becoming a canon thing on the show. I hope to describe these feelings as best I can.
Who is Jillian you might ask?
Well to put it simply, Jillian is what happens when a Soccer Mom and a TikTok boyfriend mate and spawn an unholy baby and name them Rachel Berry. Out of the aspects of Nu!Odyssey I dislike, Jillian is the one thing I truly despise. Thankfully I've met fans who share the exact sentiment! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜’
Double-N Annoying, Double-O Nincompoop
Making her debut in 2018, Jillian is described as lively and upbeat, if a little high strung and immature; the perfect recipe for Kid Appeal! Before she moved to Odyssey she lived in different cities and worked nineteen jobs before becoming roommates with Connie and her sister Jules.
Now this is actually a fairly interesting set up: a new character struggling to find purpose only to discover it in a quaint small town. But as it turns out her going through that many jobs seems to be more than just struggling to find purpose.
When I first saw her design my thought immediately went to the smarmy classmates I went to school with.
We're introduced with this iconic line: "Hi!! I'm Jillian Marshall, double-L Jillian, double-L Marshall! It's so nice to meet you!"
With that one sentence I knew I was about to die.
The following episode has Jillian bumbling through every job interview much to Connie's duress after which she conveniently ending up working at Triple J Antiques...the same place Jason works!
A little backstory on Jason: he is the adult son of John Whittaker, one of the show's main character, and a bit of an Ensemble Darkhorse. He was introduced as a secret agent meant to bring action and intrigue into the show. He was set up as a charismatic and reckless sort of guy clashing with the calmer Jack Allen. After the Green Ring Conspiracy Saga, Jason officially retired from James Bonding and settled down to work at the Allen's antique shop.
Given his immense popularity there's understandable concern for how he is written and who he gets paired up with. So what does that have to do with Jillian.
Well, the idea of Jillian working at the same exact place as Odyssey's resident bachelor and calling him cute raises a few eyebrows.
"B-but Grits all she did was call him cute! You're reaching too far into this!"
Am I? Look I know this wouldn't be much of a big deal too but that is a subtle tactic the writers threw in to get the cogs turning for Jillison. Jason is clearly uninterested and even implied to dislike her. Jillian bemoans this but Connie reassures her that that's not the case. But hey at least she called him cute so OF COURSE she's going to end up being his love interest!
To me removing a character's core trait to justify a romance means you do NOT know how to actually write a compelling romance. It's trite, it's forced and painful to listen to.
It's also obvious she's a replacement for Bernard, given they have similar personalities and her brief stint on TV (which she also failed at lol). But whereas Bernard was actually endearing, Jillian seems more of a cliche womanchild with zero self awareness and tact. No actual depth, just a personality that is incredibly dumbed down and even insulting. Seriously they made her the dumb blond stereotype in an era where we should've moved on from that! ๐Ÿคฆ
Did I mention she goes to church?
Yep she's gonna be one of those Christians.
Literally Loveless, Literally!
Oddly enough the narrative frames this as a rivals to lovers thing, where Jason is both the charismatic friendly guy and the super uninterested Straight Man. The constant twisting the turning makes him go OOC. See we know he's fit better as the former because that goes in line with his canon personality. But when they make him the latter he just comes off as unnecessarily mean. This is turns frames Jillian as someone we should pity: "Oh the attractive male doesn't like me because I went into his office without permission!!"
Wouldn't it make more sense for Jillian to be the one uninterested in a romance since her focus in to find a job/better purpose and romance might distract her? That would make a fun subplot...IF SHE WASN'T OBNOXIOUS!
A pattern I noticed and several fans pointed out: Jason's previous love interests were consistent in that they were strong minded women who challenged him in different ways. Their personalities bounced off creating a fun dynamic that was entertaining to see. Even though they didn't end up with him, you can still see and hear and feel their chemistry which is my goal for Jason x OC. Tasha doesn't make Jason OOC & they had a bittersweet arc, so their interactions were organic. Monica only made him OOC because she was a villain actively manipulating him. So again that worked in terms of story and led to Monica's redemption if my memory serves.
However, Jillian's dynamic is not that fun to listen to. You can feel her annoying Jason through the airwaves. She's strong but only in the sense of feeling something hard underneath your back laying on the bed and realizing that's just your earbud. She's vibrant yes but what else? She doesn't have any unique traits to contrast Jason, and any attempt at a contrast would mean making him act out of character. Adding her bumbling clumsiness and annoying voice, Jason would get tired of her very quickly. He's the type to go for people to have intelligent conversations with, not make him lose braincells. She could very well bring out the worse in him, it'll be an unhealthy relationship.
Here's a tidbit worth mentioning: the VA for Jillian actually auditioned with Jason's VA Townsend Coleman. Now that is big ass red flag right there! No hate towards the actress, just throwing that out there. There's also a facebook page dedicated to Jillison. Typical FB stupidity ramped up to eleven, or AIO fans who see something in Jillian; or at least THINk they see something worthwhile in her.
It doesn't help the writers keep insisting that these two go well together. The audience knows they do not work well as a pair but the narrative keeps insisting they are anyways. I recall an episode that had them pretend to be married while undercover and it was bad. Like REALLY humiliating to see Jason put in that position. He also told her to shut up much to my joy because she could NOT stop being irritating for five minutes. Alas the show still tries to justify Jillian being the Perfect Woman for Jason when she's anything but. And not even endearingly imperfect.
Follow Up
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These tags I wrote on one of the AIO posts describes how I feel about Villain Marshall and the Jillison coupling as a whole. It just wouldn't work because Jason needs someone that can actually CHALLENGE him, have their own personality that can bounce off his (without being forced), and most importantly DOESN'T AGGRAVATE THE FANDOM!!
I have not met a single person anywhere that say they like Jillian. It's a different story apparently on the Club App - they like her for reasons I'm too cowardly to find out. But no, she sucks as a character. She makes a annoying friend, and is not a good addition to the show, much less a good love interest.
The only good thing she brought us are the nicknames we gave her ๐Ÿ˜Œ
That's all for now thank you for tuning into the Odyssey Mystery Hour. Next week I'll be talking a bit more about my OC Vanessa and her role in the world of Odyssey! Goodbye and make sure to lock your doors to prevent Jillian from coming in!!
