August 2nd - Day 3 - Band Aid/Hospital drabble
@takaritsuweek
“Hello,” Ritsu answers his cellphone as he rushes along the sidewalk towards his next appointment. It’s crunch time for the publishing editors to get their authors drafts turned in. “This is Onodera— Oh, hello Miyashiro Sensei. Yes, I’m on my way…what, oh, um, passing 7/11 on Koyama Street … uh-huh, maybe 10 more minutes till I get to your apartment. Oh, good, you’ve got the storyboard ready, great! Then we’ll be able to get it to the printers on time for—”
“LOOK OUT!”
Ritsu quickly turns toward the piercing scream only to see a car barreling straight for him…
Meanwhile, at Marukawa Publishing, senior editor Masamune Takano is busy helping his editors to get the drafts turned in on time. Print day is always the hardest time on the Emerald shojo staff, but so far things have been progressing well with one exception. The only editor he hasn’t heard from yet is Ritsu Onodera, and this is making him nervous. Ritsu’s not one to just disappear and definitely not on print day.
Masamune looks at the phone on his desk every few minutes, ready to scoop it up if it rings. Where the hell is Ritsu?! He rifles through papers, staring at and not really absorbing what he’s reading as a sense of dread eats away at his consciousness. Maybe he’s just being paranoid… He and Ritsu have finally started dating, officially, a couple of months ago and there is that small part in the back of his mind that worries his first love will run away again. ‘No that’s silly,’ he chides his mind and goes back to reading. They’re all just busy today.
RING RING
‘See!’ Masamune snaps at himself. That’s probably Ritsu. “Hello!” He practically screams into the receiver. “Rit— Wait what?! Ritsu is— Yes! I’m coming right now!”
He hangs up and grabs his coat, yelling at one of his shoujo editors Shouta Kisa that Ritsu’s in the hospital and to hold down the office.
“What?!” Shouta yells back, but Masamune is already in the elevator. He hadn’t quite understood what his boss said, something about Onodera and hospital, but it sure sounds bad. So, he alerts Takafumi Yokozawa of the sales team and goes back to getting the printing completed. With his boss out, they’ll need to get things done without him.
As soon as Masamune arrives at the hospital, he’s directed to the surgery floor and rushes to find out what is going on, cornering a poor nurse at the head station. At first, she refuses to tell him anything, so he lies and tells her Onodera is a cousin, but that only gets him told to wait in the waiting room for now because Ritsu is in surgery. Surgery for what?! How bad is it?! He’s like a caged animal, continuously pacing around the waiting room as the worst-case scenarios threaten his sanity. It must be really bad to be rushed into surgery, right? Like, rushed, as in we need to stop him from dying, rush?? “Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!” Masamune mutters to himself like a deranged patient as he paces. Someone needs to tell him something and soon!
His friend Takafumi is the first to stop by to check on him, knowing this will be difficult on his old friend. Takafumi manages to get Masamune to sit down and stop pacing, but Ritsu’s unknown status eats at him. So, he buries his face in his hands still unwilling to show his tears, forgetting that the ache is painfully evident in his tone. This is Masamune’s ultimate fear come to life, to lose Ritsu again. “I can’t go through that again,” he vents to Takafumi in barely a whisper. His friend rubs his back and keeps repeating everything will be okay. If only he could believe it right now. Ritsu’s parents also show up and wait for their son to come out of surgery. Because of his mental state, Takafumi bridges the conversations with Masamune. They know their son Ritsu is in a relationship with the man but are still in the stage of accepting it. Perhaps seeing the pain he’s going through over their son will help to heal that gap.
It’s an agonizing 3 hour wait before they are led to a room in intensive care. The doctors tell them that a car lost control and jumped the curb, striking Ritsu head on which sent him flying into the building’s wall. There is extensive internal damage in his chest and abdomen from where the bumper struck along with head contusions that have caused some swelling in his brain, a broken left arm, and twisted right ankle. They’ve managed to reduce the swelling, remove excess fluid from a bruised lung, and casted the arm, but have placed him in a sedated state for the night to keep him calm while he fully stabilizes. Ritsu is expected to pull through as long as the damage in his brain has been contained. They’ll know more for sure if he stays stable till the morning.
After they thank the doctor, Masamune tells Ritsu’s parents that he’ll stay here until their son wakes up, so they don’t need to. They thank him, and he promises to contact them as soon as Ritsu is awake. He also asks Takafumi to go to he and Ritsu’s apartment to grab them a change of clothes and basic toiletries since he doesn’t know how long he’ll be there.
“I know how important Ritsu is to you, but you know you have a job to do, right,” Takafumi scolds Masamune. “Luckily today’s print was taken care of by your editors, but that doesn’t mean you can leave everything in their hands.”
“Think I don’t know that!” Masamune snaps back. “They’ll call me if they need anything, but I’m not leaving no matter what anyone says. Ritsu means more to me than the job!”
Takafumi rolls his eyes. “You act tough, but you’re such a sap for him.” He waves curtly as he starts to walk out of the room.
Masamune yells after him, “don’t forget my stuff!”
“Yeah, yeah…” Takafumi can be heard snipping back from the hall.
“Ugh,” Masamune drops onto the seat beside his boyfriend’s bed, keeping his head down as the tears well up and ache in his heart threatens to tear him apart. Tough, yeah, he does act tough to those around him, but Takafumi has him dead to rights when it comes to Ritsu. Can anyone blame him? Over 10 years of an unrequited love will turn anyone into a sap if they finally get who they want. Thats why this is so unfair! Hasn’t their relationship gone through enough pain and angst for a lifetime that this is thrown into the mix? Masamune clenches his fist, digging his nails into the skin to feel something other than emotional pain.
The scene in the room is enough to break anyone’s heart. To see the man he loves lying there, unmoving except for the rise and fall of his chest with tubes to help him breath. Ritsu’s head is wrapped with a bandage that covers all the way to the brow line, the left ear completely, with tufts of brown hair peeking through a few areas around the crown. Masamune takes note of the purplish-blue bruising on the left side of his face from where it must’ve struck the car hood or wall and assumes there are bruises elsewhere covered by the hospital gown or blanket. Next, the cast on Ritsu’s left arm extends from the hand to above the elbow because the ulna and radius has snapped, and the doctors did surgery to hold them back together until the bones fuse and heal.
Masamune takes hold of Ritsu’s right hand… ‘so cold,’ he flinches because the skin is cold to the touch. He clasps both his hands around to warm it. Likely a useless gesture except to make him feel better, but when you desperately wish you could do something to help when there is nothing you can do, hope is the only avenue left. He squeezes his eyes shut to dam his tears. “I’d trade places in a heartbeat,” the voice low and cracking. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be here. Onodera you better not go anywhere either.”
Keeping his eyes closed to the scene barely helps Masamune feel any better. The muffled voices of hospital staff in the hallway remind him of where he is. Then there’s the beeping and whooshing noises of the machines hooked up to Ritsu. A steady beep, beep, beep of the heart monitor is anxiety inducing when they change rhythm even briefly. But if he tunes these out, a resting silence that should bring peace, brings chills instead as if some sinister presence will suddenly make itself known. Masamune opens his eyes and slaps his cheeks. “Get it together!” He chides himself. “Just settle in ‘cause it’s gonna be a long night.”
Early the next morning, the doctors come in to check on Ritsu. Masamune stands in the doorframe watching them hook his boyfriend up to an electroencephalogram (EEG) to check his brain activity. Good news is the activity looks normal; the bad news is doctors aren’t sure why he hasn’t woken up. They explain the sedatives should have worn off by now but sometimes the body is not ready to wake up yet and all they can do is keep an eye on his vital signs. Ritsu is stable, so it is something to hang his positivity on. While the doctors are running the tests, Takafumi stops by before heading to work to drop off a bag of clothes and toiletries. It’s obvious Masamune didn’t get much sleep the night before, so Takafumi scolds him again about taking care of himself, to which Masamune retorts he’s fine.
Though fine is somewhat subjective in this situation. He’s fine in that he’s not pacing like a caged animal anymore or sobbing uncontrollably. But he’s not fine in that he hasn’t eaten since the previous afternoon nor taken a bath in the past two nights ago. He sits back down next to Ritsu’s bed and puts the bag on his lap to see what Takafumi brought. Inside, he finds soap, a pair of jeans, fresh underwear and socks, and a t-shirt… Uncontrollable tears instantly burst through at the sight of the shirt, because it’s one that Ritsu bought for him while on a business trip. Of all the tops to choose, Takafumi chose a heart wrenching one.
In all honesty, Masamune felt the shirt doesn’t match him, but Ritsu was adamant that he thought he looks good in the color, and since it is a gift from his boyfriend, of course he’ll wear it. He holds the shirt up, using it to cover his face as the tears flow and soft sobbing take hold. He doesn’t want the shirt, he wants Ritsu back! “Ritsu, damn it you better wake up!” He angrily mumbles through the sobbing. “Don’t you dare think you can leave me again because I won’t survive a second time! Please… please,” his sobbing grows moister and ragged, “just wake up Ritsu. Just wake up and tell me you’ll be okay… don’t leave me…”
Suddenly, Masamune hears what sounds like someone talking, but it is too soft to tell if it’s even coming from the room or from the hallway. He peaks over the shirt with his blood shot eyes and tear trailed skin to sees nothing changed.
“Masa…”
Now that caught his attention! The voice is too soft to hear, but it is definitely Ritsu! Masamune looks at his boyfriend whose eyes are still closed but his mouth is open which it wasn’t before. He leans in much closer. “Ritsu?” He asks tentatively. “Did you just say something?”
In a barely audible voice, Ritsu whispers, “I’ve never seen you cry before.”
“Oh,” that makes Masamune snort a sobbing laugh. “It just…”
“Makes me love you even more,” Ritsu finishes his sentence.
Such a statement almost sends Masamune falling off the chair. “S-So you heard me talking too?” Ritsu just nods a slow and short yes in response. “Well, I meant all of it!” He clasps Ritsu’s free hand, intertwining their fingers, pulling it to his face and places several kisses to the back while also smoothing it over his cheek. “I love you Ritsu, I need you so much!”
Ritsu weakly squeezes his hand back with a whisper. “I’m here, Masa.”
With just a few confirmatory words, Ritsu eases Masamune’s heart and allows it to settle down again. He has his boyfriend here, right next to him, bruised and battered from the accident, but alive. “Don’t worry about anything, I’ll take care of you until you’re better.”
“I’d expect so,” Ritsu snips back.
Masamune chuckles and places a lingering kiss on his boyfriend’s hand. Yeah… everything will be alright now.

BLCD Review: Koi ga Ochitara
Tumblr media
Title: Koi ga Ochitara (恋が落ちたら)
Author/Artist: Ueda Aki
Release Date: 2019/07/12
Cast: Horiuchi Kenyuu x Okitsu Kazuyuki
Synopsis: Yuuki Ise has bad taste in men. His latest boyfriend breaks up with him in a public shouting match, and as he is consoling himself, a pair of underwear falls upon him from an apartment above. The one who dropped it was a man named Hishimoto, who Ise couldn’t seem to ignore, and they end up working together to bring in the laundry that had fallen onto a tree outside his window.
After being told by Hishimoto that he would like to thank him, Ise goes up to his place. There, he is told that Hishimoto has been thinking about him, and had used the fallen laundry as an excuse. Further more, Hishimoto then flirts with him, asking if he’s interested in older men…?!
Review Proper
Tumblr media
I CAN’T BREATHE!!! JUST LOOK AT HISHIMOTO-SAN LOOK AT YOU IN THE COVER!!!
Tumblr media
I won’t be talking about the plot because we all know how much of godsend it was—but in case you haven’t read this yet, GO FUCKING READ IT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?!?!?!?! First of all, can we talk about how Hishimoto-san and Yokozawa-san are named Takafumi?!?!?!??! YOU DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME. 😭😭😭 Horiuchi Kenyuu isn’t just a veteran, HE’S A FIRST GENERATION VETERAN! I think Hirakawa Daisuke is the only other actor from the first gen who’s still active now. May he grant us his talents for more years to come. 🙇‍♀️ AND HE’S PAIRING UP WITH MY FAVORITE BL SEIYUU, TOO?! IS IT CHRISTMAS?! Truth be told, while Okitsu is the perfect cast for Ise-kun, I was doubtful with Kenyuu. I loved his Yokozawa-san and would never trade him for the world, but saying that his acting was perfect as Yokozawa-san would be a lie. I’m not saying that he’s not cut out for BL anymore or that he sounds uncomfortable with it, but it’s been such a long timeeeeee. Also, Yokozawa-san was a bottom, so I wasn’t sure how he’ll do Hishimoto-san (I know that his voice was born for seme roles, but again, it’s been a long timeeee). Surprisingly enough, he did better than what I expected because I was literally on the floor!!!
Tumblr media
I loved it because he really sounded like a bonafide old man who didn’t have experience in men, but had just enough charisma and sex appeal to make me and Okitsu melt into a puddle!!! 😩 #BLESS I guess this is what we call natural acting! Now I get why Ginger Records cast him in this because his rather raw/out of touch acting is perfect for the otherwise clumsy and out of touch in love Hishimoto Takafumi! MAMA, I WANNA BE LOVED BY A DADDY LIKE THIS, TOO!!! 😭😭😭 No, but I do wanna know what having a father feels like sometimes. Yo, I never want to get married bc I ain’t about that domestic life and kids shit, but if Hishimoto Takafumi drops his underwear on me and calls me out with Kenyuu’s voice...DO YOU WANT ME TO CLIMB THAT TREE, DADDY? WASH YOUR LAUNDRY, DADDY? I JUST CLEANED THE HOUSE SPOTLESS AND MADE YOU A FULL-COURSE ITALIAN DINNER, DADDY. ALSO, JUNIOR’S DOING FINE, DADDY. WANT MORE KIDS???
Tumblr media
Speaking of Ginger Records, I know y’all love Okitsu because I love him, too. 😂 I love how Maeno used his Kudo voice in Yoidore while Okitsu used his Miyauchi voice here. 😭😭😭 I guess that’s why Ginger Records casted him in the first place. Although Miyauchi is obviously much more negative and cynical than Ise-kun, they’re very much similar in how they deserve to be spoiled!!! I guess he still is Queen Needs To Be Loved!!! I mean, I do want him in more roles like this, but I can’t stand hearing him be hurt! 😭😭😭 *remembers Life Senjou, Kashikomarimashita Destiny, and Owaranai Fukou* *cries harder* That aside, Miya- Okitsu did such a great job as Ise-kun here as expected. This performance of his in particular made me not focus on his voice acting, but the story itself. I kinda did forget that he was Okitsu in the middle of things even. 😂
I was actually betting on Okitsu dominating the overall story line and the mattress mambo (acting wise), so I’m also quite surprised at how they balanced each other out nicely. No one was over-shadowing anyone and the only thing Okitsu swallowed was probably Kenyuu’s cum. Ghorl, I’m not sure how Miya- GOD I SWEAR I CAN’T HELP BUT TYPE MIYAUCHI INSTEAD OF OKITSU Okitsu even survived Kenyuu’s attacks with a straight ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) face bc I would’ve died. I felt fucking violated by Hishimoto-san during their mattress mambo. 😂 If the manga wasn’t enough to make you hot and bothered, this will. 🔥🔥🔥 ALSO, HISHIMOTO-SAN WAS UBER ENERGETIC DESPITE BEING AN OLD MAN BECAUSE THAT BED WAS GONNA BREAK AT HOW FAST AND HARD THINGS WERE GOING IN AND OUT BYE. Kenyuu’s on the rich husky whale club along with Yasumoto Hiroki, Okiayu Ryoutaru, and Tsuda Kenjirou, so just imagine how that turned out.
As for the side characters, as with Yoidore and Remnant, everyone gave their best and everyone was voiced! Although some of their lines have been cut, they still got their exposure (and even our leads had some of their lines cut, too).
This is by far, my favorite adaptation on this log. I mean, this is the last of this log, so I already have to choose the one I think is the best of 2019, but y’all already know that this is the greatest contender because of my obvious bias over Okitsu. 😂 Sorry, Maeno and Saitou Souma. Secret XXX, the closest second, will never win that bc I’m still mad they cut out Shizuma-kun, and I’m never going to let that go. Why am I still beating around the bush when 2018′s best was Kashikomarimashita, Destiny because of Okitsu? Remnant doesn’t count because it didn’t start in 2019.
Back on topic, overall, we had great plot execution, little cuts from the dialogue here and there, and stellar voice acting and chemistry. I definitely recommend listening to the BLCD while reading the manga because even though there are cuts, it’s not that hard to catch up with. I implore you to listen to this if you’re a fan of the series! It maximizes those feels you had while reading the manga! Let’s all hope that the sequel is fluff and gets adapted, too!

@trifiesta a longer one for the photo prompt. it’s a bit all over the place but i hope u guys like it lol
Yokozawa-san,
Please meet me in my office at 14:00 today. My apologies for the late notice. You are not responsible for any other tasks you have during that time.
Cordially,
Isaka Ryuuichirou
Senior Managing Director
Marukawa Publishing
For once in the past week, Yokozawa presses his back into his chair, letting a long-held sigh of relief leave his lips. I’m getting fired.
Finally.
It’s been four days since the pictures were leaked and Yokozawa was considering just quitting if they weren’t going to go through with firing him themselves. The pictures wouldn’t be fire- or quit-worthy if Kirishima-san were a woman or if it were a few decades in the future but that isn’t the case. The added element that Kirishima presented himself as a married man (which he metaphorically was, but…) didn’t necessarily help their case.
So, he was getting fired. Great! At least now he wouldn’t have to put up with weird stares from every direction and mysteriously canceled deals and people who can’t get their numbers straight. He would start over somewhere new once publishers started hiring again. Or, you know what, fuck publishers. There had to be some other business hiring salesmen…
And then comes the issue: if Yokozawa was getting fired, Kirishima would be getting fired too. If they’re lucky, they might get a package when they leave that’ll last until spring. Then they’d have no choice but to live under one roof, probably make their daughter switch schools, and run tag sales to get by.
That is if they’re still together by the end of all this. They haven’t communicated in a way that isn’t screaming over the phone or aggressive eye contact avoidance when they run into each other at work. Yokozawa wonders if when he said that he was “done,” Kirishima took it literally.
Still, Yokozawa opens his phone to text Kirishima after digesting the message for a while:
Did you just get that email too?
It takes a few minutes of Yokozawa pretending to work to get a response.
> Yup. 2 o’clock. Looking forward to getting fired.
Yokozawa breaks his week-long grimace with that message. Once they get fired, maybe it’ll work out.
I was about to say the same thing.
--------------------------------
Yokozawa sits before his depressing salad on lunch break, not necessarily hungry but aware that if he doesn’t eat now he’ll regret it later. He has an hour and a half before he has to go to Isaka’s office. A dreadfully long hour and a half. Yokozawa was eating more of his cuticles than he was his salad.
Since Monday, lunch has been especially depressing. Yokozawa would typically just eat by himself, but he didn’t feel ostracized up until that day. Now he could feel every pair of eyes boring into his back, he could hear every small whisper shit-talking him in one way or another. And all it took were a few pictures of Yokozawa and Kirishima on a date. Stupid.
Yokozawa can feel a shift in the room after he shoves a forkful of kale in his mouth. He doesn’t bother looking up. Somebody probably made a particularly funny homophobic quip in his direction that Yokozawa had learned to block out. Maybe it was a threat instead. Maybe—
“There you are,” the familiar voice of Kirishima Zen makes Yokozawa’s ears suddenly attentive. At the top of his vision, Yokozawa sees Kirishima place a wrapped sandwich down and sit across the table from him.
Yokozawa slowly lifts his head to see Kirishima’s grinning mug, along with tens of faces staring directly at them. “What the hell are you doing here,” he deadpans.
“I wanted to eat lunch with you! It’s our last day after all,” he loses the smile but looks on with caring eyes. “I thought you usually eat at your desk?”
Yokozawa flicks his eyes around the room at all the unapologetic stares from his coworkers. He used to be able to scare them away with just this but… Has he softened or have they become less afraid of him?
Kirishima’s presence made a point though. There wasn’t any point in caring about what his coworkers think anymore. They would be leaving the company at two today. “No point in trying to do work. It’s kinda shitty that they’re wanting us to keep working ‘til they give us the boot.”
“True. I’m looking forward to not working with Ijuuin-sensei anymore,” Kirishima laughs, unwrapping his lunch.
“And I’m looking forward to never arguing over prices with you again,” Yokozawa smiles weakly, taking another bite of his shitty, unfilling salad. He pauses for a moment, chewing. And suddenly, it hits. “...Fuck. What are we supposed to do?”
“Worst comes to worst we can stay at my parents’ place. For now, it’s probably best to let the leases run out and see if we can get other jobs before our savings are gone,” he sighs, “At least we’ll have unemployment.”
Yokozawa chews on his lip, “I can’t live at your parent’s place.”
“Well, it’s not like you’ll be able to afford your apartment without a paycheck. Besides… I want you to be near me.”
“Don’t start that shit.”
“Takafumi, it’s not shit. I love you. I don’t want us to fall apart because of this,” he scratches the back of his neck, “And I’m sorry for not being there for you the past few days. Forgot to say that.”
“...Me too…” He’s glad not to hear Kirishima take that as an opportunity to make fun of him. Yokozawa leans his face into his hand, “...What about Hiyori?”
“Do you mind being her tutor? We’re gonna have to take her out of cram school.”
“How much am I gonna get paid?” Yokozawa jokes before a wave of dread comes over him again. He grinds his teeth into his lip. Just barely above a whisper he says, “We’ve really fucked this up, haven’t we?”
“Yokozawa…”
“I’m sorry.” He hides his face in his shoulder.
“I swear if you cry—”
“I’m not crying!” he whisper-yells, definitely crying.
“Hey,” Kirishima reaches forward, taking his lover’s hand in his own.
“We’re at work.”
“Well, not for long,” he tilts his head, trying to cheer his lover up, “Who the hell cares anymore, right?”
“...Okay.”
They eat lunch silently and people stare on. They ignore them. Their hands stay together, locked.
--------------------------------
After lunch, two o’clock comes surprisingly quickly. At this point, Yokozawa was ready to get his pink slip and go.
With one last breath, Yokozawa steps into the director’s lobby.
Kirishima is sitting on one of the chairs in the waiting area. He waves at Yokozawa, which must have taken quite some effort looking at his depressed expression.
Yokozawa weakly smiles back. He heads over to the secretary’s desk. Do you have an appointment; yes, at two; Yokozawa-san, I presume?; yes, that’s me; please have a seat, the director will be with you shortly; thank you. Yokozawa takes the seat right next to the gloomy wreck that is Kirishima Zen with a huff. “Well.”
“Yup.”
Like a sixth sense, they look at each other and burst into laughter.
“We’re getting fired!” Kirishima jokes, leaning his head on Yokozawa’s shoulder.
Yokozawa joins him there. “We’re getting fired.”
“We should open a corner store!
“I was thinking a hot dog stand.”
“Or a traveling circus! You can be the clown!!”
“And you can be the one on the target board…”
“Is that a threat?”
In a matter of moments, Isaka opens the doors to his office to bid some higher-up adieu. He lets out a long sigh after that, either dreading what’s to come, glad that what just happened is over, or both. “Come in!” he says, already walking back into his office.
Yokozawa and Kirishima give each other reassuring looks before walking into the office themselves. Yokozawa closes the door behind himself and the air immediately grows thick and tense. He swallows.
“Have a seat!” Isaka does himself, resting behind the largest, scariest desk either of them will ever see in their lives.
Yokozawa and Kirishima do so in matching expensive chairs, facing their boss like he were god doling out punishments and they were the damned.
Isaka sighs again, tapping pages into stacks. “So—” He’s interrupted by a patterned knock on the door. “Yes?”
The secretary sticks his head through the door, “Would you like me to make tea, director?”
“Ah, don’t worry about it! We’ll be done shortly.”
“Of course.” He closes the door silently.
Yokozawa and Kirishima hang their heads. Fuck.
“Oh! That’s my lover. We’ve been together for ten years.”
...Sorry?
Isaka (Marukawa bigwig, most intimidating emailer in the world, and exceeding flamboyant homosexual?) waves his hands about, “Hey, don’t glare at me like that! Look, what I’m saying is that I’m on your side of this whole thing.”
If it were socially acceptable, Yokozawa would say “What the fuck?” right now. It isn’t.
“But I’m sure you know why you’re here today.”
Back on track. They raise their heads, nod. Prepare for impact.
“Well, I had a conversation with those women who were following you around and spread those pictures and they’ve agreed to send you two a written apology. They will also be taking a leave for two weeks effective immediately,” he cracks his knuckles, “Unless you would like to extend it. I’ll also leave it up to you whether you would like to press harassment charges. If so, I have contacts with good lawyers. I can cover charges if need be.”
Sorry????????
Isaka pouts, “Stop looking at me like that!! You’re giving me the creeps…” He shivers dramatically.
Kirishima has the balls to open his mouth, “Is that all?”
“Ah, yes. Sorry for taking so much time out of your day. I’m sure both of your schedules are very busy.”
“So—” Yokozawa starts, “We’re not fired?” and Kirishima finishes.
Isaka tilts his head, perplexed. “No..? Why would I fire my best editor and salesman?”
Yokozawa flicks his eyes over at Kirishima before commenting, “Your email was a bit…”
A lightbulb goes off in Isaka’s head; he shakes his head. “Sorry, my secretary wrote that. I swear, he’s like a walking dread machine. I’ll scold him.”
“O-Okay…”
“I’ll let you get back to work then.”
And with that, they were off scot-free. Still in a daze, Yokozawa and Kirishima walk out of the waiting area.
“We’re… not fired…” Kirishima’s arms hang.
“Yeah…” Yokozawa sighs, “I guess…”
“We’re not fired…” he repeats, “Ugh…”
They step into the empty elevator limply. After the doors close, they meet each other’s eyes.
Kirishima’s the first to grin a stupid, cheesy grin. He wraps his arms around Yokozawa’s waist, loudly smooching him on the cheek. “Fuck! Let’s eat at a steakhouse after work! Let’s go drinking! I’m gonna have two bottles of sake!”
Yokozawa hides his smile with a grimace, smacking his lover’s hands away, “We’re at work, idiot!”
That only makes him grab on tighter, “I know, right!?”

After letting his shoulders shake for a bit, Yokozawa finally let loose, face serious, what he’d been meaning to confess for some time now. “There’s seriously nothing between me and that girl. When she asked me if I had a lover–I told her that I did. She never even confessed to me.” In the low light of the room, he could clearly see how shocked Kirishima was. “…When?” “Last Friday. Just before you called me.” It was the entire reason he’d been so shaken when he’d gotten the call at just that moment. But the clear displeasure in Kirishima’s voice had made him feel as if he were being doubted, so he’d snapped. If he’d tried to call back after he and Matsumoto had parted ways, things likely wouldn’t have gotten this bad. Looking back now, he knew he’d behaved quite childishly. “So in other words…I was a complete idiot? Ugh, what the hell! Dammit! Tell me these kinds of things sooner!” Kirishima cursed as he mussed his own hair. He was probably regretting what he’d said back then right about now. They’d felt the whole thing had been a serious problem between them, but in hindsight, it was really little more than a lovers’ tiff. Once all was settled, it was something they could actually laugh about. “Still…to think that you actually get jealous…” “Of course I do–we’re talking about the guy I love here. I even got all pumped up to go into battle against her at the autograph event and everything–but you didn’t even notice.” “Pumped up…?” So that had been why he’d seemed particularly decked out that day. Maybe the timing of Hiyori barging in had also been his doing… As Yokozawa sat there, shocked at how unexpectedly narrow-minded Kirishima had been, Kirishima apologized shamefully, “I’m…really sorry for acting so childish.” “Hmph, so you recognized it, did you?” “I guess. You might not have realized it–but I’m a hell of a lot more possessive and prone to jealousy than you.” “I’m beginning to get that impression.” He just happened to be particularly good at keeping up appearances–that was what Kirishima had told him once before. Which meant in this case, he’d been so agitated by the situation that he hadn’t been able to pretend. “Still…you actually told her…” “If she’d just brought it up in passing that would’ve been one thing–but when she asked me outright, I didn’t exactly have any choice but to respond. And I never once mentioned your name.” “And…was that all you told her?” “…That was it.” “What was that pause?” “Nothing.” He hadn’t mentioned everything he’d said only because it was too damn embarrassing. “…Someone I greatly respect.” If Kirishima found out Yokozawa had said something like that, there was no doubt he would’ve teased Yokozawa about it mercilessly. Even for a dream, he couldn’t bring himself to be that open. Perhaps worried when Yokozawa grew unnaturally silent, Kirishima hesitantly questioned, “So…completely disenchanted with me now?” “Nah… I won’t say it wasn’t unexpected, but…” Kirishima’s expression turned suspicious when Yokozawa trailed off. “What’s that ‘but’ for?” After a moment’s mental debate, Yokozawa simply spoke the words within his mind as they came. “Was just thinking that we really…kind of suit each other.” He was only able to laugh this easily because this was a dream. Kirishima’s expression showed how surprised he’d been by the moment, but after a momentary choked up gleam to his eye, he chuckled, “I guess we do at that…” He hesitantly squeezed the fingers casually looped around his own, and maybe it was just because of his fever, but Kirishima’s hands were cool and felt wonderful against him.

Hello! I’ve been looking for some good books to read and was wondering if you had any recommendations? I seem to just wander around the bookstore not knowing where to start.
I confess I’ve been reading nothing but fics on fics on fics (Drarry exclusively lol) for a good year now, so I haven’t touched original works in ages, though I have several of the latest installments of my favorite series waiting until I run out of good Drarry fic... (please...god...free me from this hell........)
I’ve made several recommendations for excellent M/M original works (you can always check out my reccs tag for any recommendations as well, though it includes original novels as well as manga and fic). I pretty much only read M/M fantasy (with the very VERY occasional M/M scifi or supernatural book thrown in), so I hope that’s what you’re looking for XD
Here’s a “””””””brief””””””” recap of series I particularly enjoy and go back to reread often, along with details on who might like these books and why. They’re all available via Amazon (most as Kindle reads, but some as paperbacks; some are also available from other sources as well in other formats if you prefer, for example, epub) and at reasonable prices (all but one series are under $10 per book, some under $5).
It is entirely possible you’ve read all of these, since I’ve gushed about them many a time before, and if that’s the case, I apologize I can’t rec you anything new! But maybe it’s been a while if you’ve read these before and it’s time for a reread!
The Lord of the White Hell series, by Ginn Hale - [GOODREADS BLURB: "Kiram Kir-Zaki may be considered a mechanist prodigy among his own people, but when he becomes the first Haldiim ever admitted to the prestigious Sagrada Academy, he is thrown into a world where power, superstition and swordplay outweigh even the most scholarly of achievements. But when the intimidation from his Cadeleonian classmates turns bloody, Kiram unexpectedly finds himself befriended by Javier Tornesal, the leader of a group of cardsharps, duelists and lotharios who call themselves Hellions. However Javier is a dangerous friend to have. Wielder of the White Hell and sole heir of a dukedom, he is surrounded by rumors of forbidden seductions, murder and damnation. His enemies are many and any one of his secrets could not only end his life but Kiram’s as well."]
Read this if you like... magic and science working together, religion-borne racism and the difficulties of interracial as well as interreligious relationships, snarky aristocrats and a good mystery. And read the second book in the series definitely if you liked Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai or Sore Nari ni Shinken nan desu (I've found I really like stories where the rejected third-party from the main series gets his own happy ending, and Book 2 of this series is one such, building an entire new couple with the midway-through-the-story return of Book 1 couple so you get the best of both worlds.)
The Magpie Lord series by K.J.Charles - [GOODREADS BLURB: "Exiled to China for twenty years, Lucien Vaudrey never planned to return to England. But with the mysterious deaths of his father and brother, it seems the new Lord Crane has inherited an earldom. He’s also inherited his family’s enemies. He needs magical assistance, fast. He doesn’t expect it to turn up angry. Magician Stephen Day has good reason to hate Crane’s family. Unfortunately, it’s his job to deal with supernatural threats. Besides, the earl is unlike any aristocrat he’s ever met, with the tattoos, the attitude… and the way Crane seems determined to get him into bed. That’s definitely unusual. Soon Stephen is falling hard for the worst possible man, at the worst possible time. But Crane’s dangerous appeal isn’t the only thing rendering Stephen powerless. Evil pervades the house, a web of plots is closing round Crane, and if Stephen can’t find a way through it—they’re both going to die."]
Read this if you like...magic and 19th century UK settings and snarky aristocrats who guard their hearts fiercely. The dynamic is fantastic, and the writing itself is gorgeous.
Whyborn & Griffin series, by Jordan Hawk - [GOODREADS BLURB: (Summary of Book 1) “Love is dangerous. Ever since the tragic death of the friend he adored, Percival Endicott Whyborne has ruthlessly suppressed any desire for another man. Instead, he spends his days studying dead languages at the museum where he works. So when handsome ex-Pinkerton Griffin Flaherty approaches him to translate a mysterious book, Whyborne wants to finish the job and get rid of the detective as quickly as possible. Griffin left the Pinkertons after the death of his partner. Now in business for himself, he must investigate the murder of a wealthy young man. His only clue: an encrypted book that once belonged to the victim. As the investigation draws them closer, Griffin’s rakish charm threatens to shatter Whyborne’s iron control. But when they uncover evidence of a powerful cult determined to rule the world, Whyborne must choose: to remain safely alone, or to risk everything for the man he loves.”]
Read if you like... magic and the supernatural and 19th century US settings and Eldritch monsters and mystery and intrigue and adventure and era-appropriate treatment of homosexual relationships but with happy endings (and also couples of all types).
The Nightrunner series, by Lynn Flewelling - [GOODREADS BLURB: "When young Alec of Kerry is taken prisoner for a crime he didn’t commit, he is certain that his life is at an end. But one thing he never expected was his cellmate. Spy, rogue, thief, and noble, Seregil of Rhiminee is many things--none of them predictable. And when he offers to take on Alec as his apprentice, things may never be the same for either of them. Soon Alec is traveling roads he never knew existed, toward a war he never suspected was brewing. Before long he and Seregil are embroiled in a sinister plot that runs deeper than either can imagine, and that may cost them far more than their lives if they fail. But fortune is as unpredictable as Alec’s new mentor, and this time there just might be…Luck in the Shadows."]
Read this if you like... magic, spies, fantastic female characters, adventure, and intrigue. Read also if you love looooong series, as it's complete at 7 books!
Scarlet and the White Wolf series, by Kirby Crow - [GOODREADS BLURB: "Scarlet of Lysia is an honest pedlar, a young merchant traveling the wild, undefended roads to support his aging parents. Liall, called the Wolf of Omara, is the handsome, world-weary chieftain of a tribe of bandits blocking a mountain road that Scarlet needs to cross. When Liall jokingly demands a carnal toll for the privilege, Scarlet refuses and an inventive battle of wills ensues, with disastrous results. Scarlet is convinced that Liall is a worthless, immoral rogue, but when the hostile countryside explodes into violence and Liall unexpectedly fights to save the lives of Scarlet's family, Scarlet is forced to admit that the Wolf is not the worst ally he could have, but what price will proud Scarlet ultimately have to pay for Liall's friendship?"]
Read this if you like... weird twists on old fairy tales with amazing world-building, provided you're willing to put up with a little bit of a slog until the couple really gets on the same page.
Captive Prince, by C.S.Pacat - [GOODREADS BLURB: "Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos, but when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave. Beautiful, manipulative and deadly, his new master Prince Laurent epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country. For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else..."]
Read this if you like... phenomenal skill with the written word (I mean REALLY TOP NOTCH), fantastic characters with real evolution in relationships, amazingly intricate political intrigue (guaranteed to keep you guessing the whole way), enemies-to-friends-to-"I think if I gave you my heart, you would treat it tenderly"-to-...well, I won't spoil things 8D Please note the 'slavery' aspect that is heavily featured in Book 1. There is NO RAPE between the main characters, but there are forced sexual scenes between Damen and another minor character (n.b. minor as in not major, not minor as in a kid), and well, Laurent just isn't a very kind 'master', nor does he pretend to be. This is not your typical 'omg the slave falls in love with the master and vice versa!!' dreck, but do be aware that the first book deals intimately with those themes as Damen must play his part.
Wytch Kings series, by Jaye McKenna - [GOODREADS BLURB: (Summary of Book 1) "Prince Garrik is the Heir Presumptive of Altan, next in line to be crowned Wytch King. There’s only one problem: in order for Garrik to be crowned, he must possess Wytch power of his own, and thus far, whatever power Garrik might possess has shown no sign of awakening. As things stand, it is Garrik’s younger brother, Jaire — a dreamer completely unsuited to wear the crown — who will take the throne after their father. Concerned about the future of his kingdom, the Wytch King demands that Garrik’s power be forcibly awakened. Hoping to protect his brother from the burden of rule, Garrik allows the attempt — with disastrous results. Now, Garrik must learn to control the fiery dragon that rages within him before he destroys everything he loves. Wytch Master Ilya has been alone for years. Learning to control the icy beast slumbering within him has already cost him his family and his lover, and Ilya will never open himself up to that kind of pain again. Summoned to Altan to avert disaster if he can, Ilya has no intention of allowing anyone to thaw the ice in his heart. When he meets Prince Garrik, sparks fly, and Ilya finds himself fighting feelings he thought he'd buried, long ago. Can Garrik’s fire melt Ilya’s icy heart? Or will Ilya be forced to use his ice to quench the flames that burn within Garrik once and for all?"]
Read if you like... DRAGON SHIFTERS. There's really not much more I can say to encourage you to read this series (there are five so far!) other than to say HERE THERE BE DRAGONS, AND LOTS OF THEM, AND HOT GUYS WHO TRANSFORM INTO THEM. The plots are interwoven, with side characters from previous books showing up as MCs in subsequent ones, so you get to see major characters fleshed out, even if not right away.
Mermen of Ea series, by Shira Anthony - [GOODREADS BLURB: (Summary of Book 1) "Taren Laxley has never known anything but life as a slave. When a lusty pirate kidnaps him and holds him prisoner on his ship, Taren embraces the chance to realize his dream of a seagoing life. Not only does the pirate captain offer him freedom in exchange for three years of labor and sexual servitude, but the pleasures Taren finds when he joins the captain and first mate in bed far surpass his greatest fantasies. Then, during a storm, Taren dives overboard to save another sailor and is lost at sea. He’s rescued by Ian Dunaidh, the enigmatic and seemingly ageless captain of a rival ship, the Phantom, and Taren feels an overwhelming attraction to Ian that Ian appears to share. Soon Taren learns a secret that will change his life forever: Ian and his people are Ea, shape-shifting merfolk… and Taren is one of them too. Bound to each other by a fierce passion neither can explain or deny, Taren and Ian are soon embroiled in a war and forced to fight for a future—not only for themselves but for all their kind."]
Read if you like... MERMEN SEX. Again, not much more I can say to encourage you to read this XD There's mermen having sex in mer form, there's mermen having sex in human form, there's just lots of mermen and rather a lot of sex too. But there's also interesting plot! Though lbr if you're going to read this, it's for the mermen XD

💖💖HAPPY FATHER’S DAY PAPA KIRISHIMA💖💖
Yeah I know we just celebrated him yesterday, but he doesn’t get it that much ya know!!  And I have another excuse to share another one of my favorite Kirishima moments!!
Favorite Papa Kirishima Moment:  Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai Vol. 3 Chapter 5
“You’ve been looking down on us since the moment you showed up—you wanna get your ass kicked that badly, huh?” The kid who seemed to be the group’s leader was clearly trying to cut him a harsh glare, but the more-than-ten centimeters of height separating the two of them left Yokozawa feeling more like a little puppy was yipping at him.
“You do realize that’s what they call blackmail, right?” He didn’t want to get too menacing in front of Hiyori, but neither did he want her to have to fear them any more than she already did. Had there been any lifeguards or police around, he would’ve left this to them to deal with, but unfortunately, there was no one around who looked even remotely helpful.
Then—just as he was wracking his mind how best to deal with this situation, Kirishima appeared at his side. “What’s going on, Yokozawa? Something up?”
“Papa!”
With his Hawaiian shirt and brand-name sunglasses, Kirishima looked like far from your average beachgoer, and Hiyori threw herself at him, clinging to him tightly.
Tumblr media
“What the hell—didn’t you two just buy these?” The upturned shaved ice had already melted, turning the sand below brilliant colors.
“I dropped it…”
“No, she didn’t drop it—these kids made her drop it.”
“And who the hell are they?”
“Damned if I know. They bumped into her on purpose then blamed her for it. Sounds like they were trying to bleed some money out of her.”
“The fuck—she’s the one who bumped into us! What proof do you have otherwise?!”
“I’m a witness.”
“Someone who knows her can’t be a witness! Whatever, just man up and take responsibility!”
“That’ll come off with a quick dip in the ocean, for one, and you’re the ones who ought to be manning up in the first place, for another. Plus you owe us for three portions of shaved ice.”
“Like hell we’re paying for that!”
“Ah, I see—so you don’t have enough, is it? What’re your names? Where do you go to school, and what year are you? Can you give us your parents’ contact information, then?”
“Huh?! What the hell does our school have to do with anything?!”
“Well, you’re all underage. We’ll simply have to discuss the subject of your taking responsibility for your actions with your teachers and parents.”
“They don’t have anything to do with this…! Wait—hey, what the fuck are you taking our pictures for?!”
“Well, we’re filing a report with the police, so it’s best to make sure they can easily identify who we’re complaining about, right? This is just in case you decide to make a break for it, that’s all.” A moment later, the sound of three buttons being pressed on a cell phone came up, and the boys seemed to have finally realized just who Kirishima was calling.
“Th—that’s not fair! Just because you’re adults, you—!”
“Don’t you think it’s less fair for you to be acting like innocent children now? You bump into an elementary school kid and then threaten her for payment—and you still call yourself men?”
“…Asshole, spitting out a bunch of high-handed bullshit and looking down on us…!” One of the group snapped and rushed forward, fist raised to deliver a punch.
“Oops—but you’re never gonna land a punch swinging your fist around like that.”
“Dammit, stand still!”
“Owowowoww!! Le—lemme go! That hurts, dammit!” Kirishima grabbed the arm of one of the boys and twisted it up behind his back, and in that moment, Yokozawa flashed back to the time he’d found himself on the receiving end of such a move as well. It’d hurt like hell.
The remaining few followers of the group gave them a wide berth, clearly not wanting to be involved in the affair. “We’ll overlook this for now, so get the hell out of here. And you’d better not try stupid shit like this again.”
“We’re the ones who’re letting you off easy! You’d better be prepared next time we see you!” Obviously deeming themselves outmatched by two rather large adults, the punk kids spit out their parting words and then made off. Yokozawa watched them nearly trip over one another as they dashed off, and then let out a sigh.
“God, what a bunch of stupid brats. I’d love to see the parents responsible for that.”
“They probably don’t give a shit. You okay, Hiyo? You must’ve been scared.” Kirishima squatted before Hiyori and peered into her face, her expression showing she was on the verge of tears. As he caressed her head, her stiff features eased slightly.
“Only…only a little bit. But—Oniichan came right away, so I was all right. But…now we can’t eat the shaved ice because of me…” She picked up the empty cups, her shoulders slumped in disappointment. All that remained on the sand now was color left behind by the syrup and the fruit topping.
“Don’t sweat it; it wasn’t your fault. I’ll clean up here and head back to get some more shaved ice. You had some kind of berry milk something, right?”
“But—you’ll have to stand in that long line again, won’t you?” She directed her gaze beyond them to the snaking line at the stand.
“I’m sure it’ll be my turn in no time. It went by in a flash earlier, right? Now—you don’t want your bathing suit to stain, so run and take a shower with your Papa.”
“All right then… Mind if I leave it to you?”
“I’ll take care of it. Forget those stupid brats. None of this was your fault in the least.”
“‘Kay.” But her smile was still strained; in all likelihood she was still blaming herself deep down.
Hoping to help distract her, even just a little bit, Yokozawa opened his mouth. “Oh right, Hiyo—I forgot to mention something.”
“What is it?”
“You know you said ‘Papa’ before, right?”
“Ah…!” Her sullen features instantly flared bright red—she definitely had done it unconsciously, then. He’d only pointed it out in an effort to get her to forget how scared she’d just been, and catching on to Yokozawa’s intention, Kirishima confronted Hiyori himself.
“I have to admit, being called ‘Papa’ does have an adorable ring to it…”
“Th—that was just on accident, that’s all!”
“And having Hiyo cling to me like that for the first time in what felt like forever…I’m just all choked up now! I thought she’d grown up on me, but she’s still Daddy’s Little Girl, I see.”
“I told you I was just flustered before, really! Now—let’s go rinse off, Father!” Perhaps because she didn’t want anyone to see how red her face was, she puffed out her cheeks and whirled around to place her back to the two of them.
As Yokozawa bent down to pick up the cups, though, Kirishima spoke to him in a soft register, “…Thanks for looking after her.”
“Only did the obvious—now get going,” he bit back curtly, in an effort to hide his own flush, but Kirishima must have seen right through him, for his shoulders shook in laughter.
Hiyo should still call him Papa...I would...💖
She’s lucky to have a clever, protective Papa like him!
