can't help but wonder if someone with zero knowledge of this show has ever thought that the capitalised lines signify Yelling instead of Singing

Imagine you're a young girl who needs to marry soon. There's a young man who lives down the road that you think will do just fine. He's the village baker and while everyone else thinks he's a little odd and someone to be pitied, you've grown to care for him. Everything is set, the banns have been read, when he comes to you late one night. "I have to tell you something. I know this might change your mind but I couldn't marry you without you knowing."
This is worrisome, what could he be talking about? He's secretly already married? Although you would have known, surely. You grew up together. He's dying? Oh please, please, not that. "What?" you as hesitantly. "I live next door to a witch."

Sara Baker || 35 || Housewife || Echo Creek
“This is ridiculous, what am I doing here, I'm in the wrong story!”
✨Biography:
Sara Baker has led a pretty mundane life. She met her husband, Tom, when she was young, and made the admittedly unintelligent decision to drop out of college to marry him. He was quite a bit older than her, and he needed help starting his bakery. Sara was young and in love, and their bakery actually became a success! The only negative was their location: they lived next to this strange woman who Sara was convinced was a witch, but a garden full of greenery separated the bakery from her house, so she was pretty sure they were safe from any kind of magic their neighbor might be brewing. The only things that could make life better were a more interesting husband and a baby. Sara and Tom had been trying for a child for as long as she could remember, and while the doctors can’t seem to figure out what kind of infertility issue they were facing, she just couldn’t get pregnant. With no hope of becoming a mother and running the same bakery every day, Sara had grown bored of her life with Tom, and maybe that was why she had found herself somehow involved with Kit Charming. It wasn’t at one of his parties, but when he was at a bar afterwards that she went home with him. She felt horrible about cheating on Tom, but who wouldn’t say yes to someone like Kit? Her husband still has no idea about her infidelity, but she figures what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him for now.
Everything changed when the witch from next door burst in with an announcement one morning. She was looking for specific ingredients for some potion that would make her young again, since her daughter, who also happened to be Sara’s long-lost sister-in-law, had run away. The woman also revealed that the reason why they couldn’t have a child was because Tom’s bloodline had been cursed after his father had stolen some beans from her garden. The witch promised the couple a child if they were able to help her find a red cape, yellow hair, a cow, and a golden slipper, breaking the curse she had placed on the Bakers. Sara thought it sounded crazy, but she was desperate for a child, and would stop at nothing to get these potion ingredients or find her husband’s sister, whichever came first. It would be nice to find her sister-in-law, but Sara figures that if even a witch can’t find her, what kind of chance did the Bakers have? Finding the ingredients to this strange potion seems a lot easier to her, at least. Though Tom wanted to go off on his own to try and find everything, Sara refused. If they wanted to be successful in their search, it would take two of them to find all these things or the girl.
✨Personal:
Species: Human Sexuality: Heterosexual Pronouns: She/her Favorite Song: A Sunday Kind of Love by Etta James Big Three: Virgo sun, Pisces moon, Gemini rising
✨Connections:
Ella Tremaine: A girl who Sara had met the night that she went home with Kit, who had revealed that she danced with him at his big party, thrown to search for a wife. Since then, she’s come into the bakery a few times, and Sara is hoping that she can convince Ella to help her find this golden shoe: who else in Animania would own a slipper made of gold than one of the richest men in town?
Minerva “Minnie” Mao: Sara is the woman’s biggest fan. She watches literally everything that Minnie’s in, and is hoping that one day she’ll just turn up at the bakery one day or she’ll run into her on the street in the city. If that were to happen, though, Sara thinks she’d probably faint.
Eddie Valiant: Though she hasn’t told Tom about it, Sara’s reached out to the man in the hopes that he can help the Bakers find Tom’s sister. She knows he probably won’t be able to do much, but it would be quicker than having to look for all these items.

Top 5 musical characters you relate to most
Oh that is a GOOD question…that is particularly difficult because a lot of times I don’t see my personality represented in musical theatre, but I think I really relate to specific aspects of these characters.
In no particular order:
1. The Baker’s Wife from Into the Woods
2. Katherine from Newsies
3. Bobby/Bobbi from Company (particularly Katrina Lenk’s portrayal)
4. Lydia from Beetlejuice
5. Dawn from Waitress
Honorable mentions are Rosie from Mamma Mia! and Cathy from The Last Five Years

La femme du boulanger (The Baker’s Wife) (1938)
The wife of a baker runs away with a shepherd so the baker becomes depressed and won’t bake bread for the town until she is found.
Some narrative decisions were interesting like the idea to have the priest and teacher in regular conversation together to discuss their opposing viewpoints and discuss the matters of the plot in a meta-textual way. There are some rare moments of amusement but they are brief and easily missed by the unpretentious.
Much of the content revolves around the self-pity of the baker who embarks on no quest to better himself or make up for what lacked in his marriage, but instead wallows in drink until the town is guilted to hunt for his unhappy wife. The tone drifts between pathetic and passive aggressive; it’s difficult to believe that this is thought of as a comedy by anyone other than the truly miserable.
Some of the subtext is engaging like how the entire town is debilitated to the point of crisis because the means of feeding people are privately owned so even though it’s a necessary resource, nobody can use it as long as its owner is sad. This explains why the townsfolk search for a woman and would no doubt force her home rather than simply take the bakery over and distribute the running of it until an apprentice baker can be trained.
The relationship is inherently bad, neither partner being happy, so it doesn’t make sense to route for their reunion. Even the ending where the woman grovels to be accepted back could be viewed as more an act of desperation since she no longer has an alternative by that point and the baker’s attitude is hard not to regard as intolerably smug. Also the wife bakes, she works on the baking too, so why is she just the baker’s wife and not also a baker?
 2/10 -It’s not THE worst, that’s something else. But…-
