🕉 🚩🏰🕌⁣ ⁣ Is it a temple or a mosque? 🤔⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ This is Gyanvapi Mosque, built on demolished Kashi Vishwanath Temple i.e.one of the Twelve Jyotirling of Lord Shiva. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Photography of the site is not allowed but I took this photograph yesterday as the area was not as busy as it is on normal days. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ As you can see in the area highlighted in the picture, half of the premises can clearly be seen as ruins of a demolished temple. It’s not as complicated as Ram Janma Bhoomi to ascertain if there was a Temple or not. If you go closer to the site, you’ll be able to see that ‘Nandi’ is facing towards the mosque, not current day Kashi Vishwanath Temple. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ My grandmother & other ladies used to worship ‘Mangla Gauri’ on the wall of Mosque before demolition of Babri Mosque in Ayodhya. ⁣ This demolished temple & Mosque over it is what Ganga Jamuna Tehzeeb of 🇮🇳 is all about. They’ll demolish your temples, build mosques over it, boast about 800 years of rule over Kafir Hindus & you’re supposed to keep quiet. 🕉 🚩🚩🚩⁣ ⁣ Mughal painting which depicts the destruction of Krishna Janmasthan (birthplace of Krishna) temple at Mathura.⁣ After the destruction of the temple, the Murti of Lord Krishna was taken and placed at the footsteps of royal Jahanara Begum Mosque in Agra for the devout Muslims to continually trod the idol with their feet (also depicted in the painting)⁣ ⁣ The great Temple of Krishna at Mathura was built by Bir Singh Deo Bundela at the site believed to be the birthplace of Krishna at a cost of thirty-three lakhs of rupees.⁣ It was one of the most magnificent Temples ever built in India and enjoyed veneration of the Hindus throughout the land.⁣ It was demolished in the month of Ramzan, 1080 A.H. (13th January – 11th February 1670) by Aurangzeb’s order. “In a short time, by the great exertion of the officers, the destruction of this strong foundation of infidelity was accomplished and on its site a lofty mosque was built at the expenditure of a large sum.” To the author of Maasir-i-‘Alamigiri, the accomplishment of this “seemingly impossible work was an “instance of the strength of the Emperor’s faith.” Even more disgraceful was transporting the idols to Agra and burying them under the steps of the mosque of the Begum Sahib “in order to be continually trodden upon.” Aurangzeb even changed the name of the sacred city of Mathura to "Islamabad". Today, a mosque occupies the place of Krishna Janmabhoomi temple. 🕉 🚩 🇮🇳 ⠀ ⠀ Atala Devi Temple was built by King Vijayachandra of the Gahadavala dynasty around 1155 A.D. Atala Devi is a Hindu goddess; She was believed to change fate, which is even unavoidable of inexorable fate.⠀ ⠀ Atala Devi Temple was destroyed by Ibrahim Naib Barbak, step brother of Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq III (1351–1388 CE). Temple was demolished in 1364 CE, Ibrahim started construction in 1377 CE and completed the mosque in 1408 CE. Even Though, the outer structure is changed, the inner walls, pillars of this masjid have retained the original hindu temple structures.⠀ ⠀ A Madarsa named Madarsa Din Dunia is housed in central courtyard of the mosque. The Mosque is on the List of Monuments/Sites of Archaeological Survey of India of Directorate of Archaeology, (U.P.) and on list List of Monuments of Archaeological Survey of India.⠀ ⠀ William Hodges in his book "Select Views in India" mentions this mosque.⠀ ⠀ The Gazetteer of Jaunpur district dated 1908 CE, written by H.R. Nevill, the district collector of Jaunpur, confirms the destruction and construction dates. According to the gazetteer, there stood an equally large temple of Mukatghat, built by Raja Vijaya Chandra of Kannauj, the father of Jaichand (father-in-law of Prithviraj Chauhan). ⠀ ⠀ The style of Atala Masjid's architecture is known as Sharqi Style. It is located at the foothills of the Aravalli range and on the banks of perennial Harnav river, spread over the area of 400 sq. km.⠀ ⠀ There was a town established by the Parihar kings of Idar around the Harnav river probably in the 10th century. It was conquered by the Rathores of Marwar in 15th century and came under Idar State. The town was located between two high hills, Kalaliyo and Mamrehchi, which blocks sunlight for the most days which probably resulted in the abandonment of the town.⠀ ⠀ The name Polo is derived from pol which literally means a gate in Marwari language.⠀ ⠀ In Polo forest. 160 kms outside Ahmadabad. Abandoned ancient temples within the secluded forest. Some in decay, some still clinging to their splendour. 🕉 🚩 🐂⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Srikanteshwara temple⠀ ⠀ Nanjangud, one of the ancient and well-known pilgrimage centres of Karnataka is at a distance of about 25kms from Mysore and is famous for its temple dedicated to Shiva described as Nanjundeshwara.⠀ ⠀ Nanju in Kannada means poison; the name Nanjundeshwara means the "God who Drank the Poison" (halahala), a word that has its origins in the legend of the Great Churning of the Ocean of Milk; thus the town got the name 'Nanjangud' which means "the abode of the god Nanjundeshwara". Nanjunda became Visha kanta and also Srikanta for having digested it. Hence the deity is also known as Srikanteshwara, one cures diseases.⠀ ⠀ The town is situated on the banks of the Kapila or Kabini River where a dip in its waters on any momentous occasion is considered to be more meritorious than a dip in the Ganges. It is therefore hailed as Dakshina Kashi.⠀ ⠀ In addition, the waters and the soil around the banks are believed to possess curative properties and thus, Sri Nanjundeshwara is also worshipped as bhavaroga vaidya.⠀ ⠀ Parashurama, it is said, prayed for the grace of Srikanteshwara to expiate himself of the sin of beheading his mother Renuka.
