Bhagwad Geeta teaches us to be Calm!
See this:
Tumblr media
And as per modern science and leading biologist, when human brain evolved:
First came the Brain Stem. It’s the basic part of the brain which dictates functions like breathing, body movement etc.
After Brain Stem, Limbic System evolved. This part carries all the emotions and feeling. This part has very little or no rational thoughts; and only emotions like anger, happiness, lust etc.
At the end came the Cortex region, which is the most sophisticated part of the brain where intelligence, rational thoughts, knowledge develops.
But the funny thing is during the period of evolution, our ancestors survived in the wild because the impulsive nature and emotions of the Limbic system saved them. And this is the brain’s first reaction.
Like if trouble came, the limbic system responded with fear emotion, and directed body to run. Similarly, in fights, anger helped body to give fight for survival.
Thus, our brain is conditioned to give first an impulsive emotional reaction under unusual circumstances, because that’s what helped our ancestor survive.
But, after human civilization, these emotional impulses become obsolete. Because you can’t hurt someone out of anger in the current times. You will regret it and it’s not what humans do (mindless activity).
Instead, the current society and human civilization demand to utilize the cortex region of the brain to think before you act and understand the emotions, but it takes more time than emotional impulse. Thus, a hard thing which requires control of cortex than the limbic system.
But why I am you telling all this? What’s it’s relation with Gita, and it’s teaching?
Well, modern science back the claim that there are two parts of brain: One Rational and One emotional. Rational is more sophisticated and modern. Emotional is simple and old.
Also, Modern science asks you to utilize rational and become aware of emotions and their significance; and utilize them in balance to become better in Human society.
Now here is one Verse from Bhagat Gita:
Tumblr media
Isn’t it amazing?
Bhagavad Gita gave this teaching thousands year back which resonates the same thing that modern science says. Gita is even more ahead than it:
Your first reaction to any scenario is emotional, but you must have the calmness to let rational and emotion work in balance for your greater good.
A real-life lesson for the current time.

A Hymn to Shiva
May my luminous love fasten firm to Him, to Shiva,
In whom arise visions of glories immeasurable!
May my luminous love cling to Him who is utterly pure, like the sky,
Who is Lord of all, having no lord over Himself!
May my luminous devotion be attached to Him
By whom all delusion is destroyed,
In whom Lordship is forever existent!
May it be attached to Him who, manifesting surpassing Love,
is named “the Great God.”
The firm embrace of Him—Love Itself—reveals within the heart
The infinity of being, the falseness of the worlds.
I salute Mind which has its support in Shiva,
But has lost its pristine perfection and assumed misshapen forms;
I salute Mind in which all the impresses of the past are blowing
like a furious tempest,
Stirring up energies violently, like waters lashed into furious waves;
In which flows ceaselessly the dual current of the sense of “I” and “thou.”
I worship Shiva in whom ideas of cause and effect,
Thoughts and impresses and countless varied forms become the Real One.
I worship Him in whom—when the wind of change is calmed—
There is neither within nor without.
I worship Him who is the perfect stillness of the Mind.
He whose thunderous laughter is the flood of Knowledge,
He from whom all darkness is dispersed, who manifests as white radiance,
who is beautiful as the white lotus;
He who is indivisible, who is sought in meditation;
He who is realized in the heart of men of self-control—
May He, that Lordly Swan of my mind, protect me!
May He protect me, who am bowing before Him!
Him, who destroys sin and removes the dark stain of our age;
Whose benign eyes watch over all who have surrendered to Him;
Who joyously sacrifices Himself for the good of others,
Whose throat is blue from drinking the poison intended for others—
Him, lustrous as the white water lily—
Him I salute!

What can we learn from Lord Krishna?
In Mahabharat, Karna asks Krishna-
“My mother left me the moment I was born. Is it my fault I was born an illegitimate child?
I did not get the education from Dhronacharya because I was considered not a Kshatriya.
Parshu-Raam taught me but then gave me the curse to forget everything when he came to know I was Son of Kunthi belong to Kshatriya.
A cow was accidentally hit by my arrow and its owner cursed me for no fault of mine.
I was disgraced in Draupadi's Swayamvar.
Even Kunthi finally told me the truth only to save her other sons.
Whatever I received was through Duryodhana's charity.
So how am I wrong in taking his side ???"
**Krishna replies,
“Karna, I was born in a jail.
Death was waiting for me even before my birth.
The night I was born I was separated from my birth parents.
From childhood, you grew up hearing the noise of swords, chariots, horses, bow, and arrows. I got only cow herd's shed, dung, and multiple attempts on my life even before I could walk!
No Army, No Education. I could hear people saying I am the reason for all their problems.
When all of you were being appreciated for your valour by your teachers I had not even received any education. I joined Gurukula of Rishi Sandipani only at the age of 16!
You are married to a girl of your choice. I didn't get the girl I loved rather ended up marrying those who wanted me or the ones I rescued from demons.
I had to move my whole community from the banks of Yamuna to far off Sea shore to save them from Jarasandh. I was called a coward for running away!!
If Duryodhana wins the war you will get a lot of credit. What do I get if Dharmaraja wins the war? Only the blame for the war and all related problems...
Remember one thing, Karna. Everybody has Challenges in life to face.
LIFE IS NOT FAIR and EASY ON ANYBODY!!!
But what is Right (Dharma) is known to your Mind (conscience). No matter how much unfairness we got, how many times we were Disgraced, how many times we Fall, what is important is how you REACTED at that time.
Life's unfairness does not give you license to walk the wrong path...!
Life maybe tough at snt but Krishna teaches me that DESTINY is not build by the SHOES we wear but the STEPS we take…!
