On Sunday we were at Dillington for the final winter league match. Two more matches this weekend, fished the open at Acorn on Saturday, another lovely day catching roach, tench, perch and skimmers plus some carp for 39lb 8oz, won the section and was second in the silvers, just behind Tom Thick, love a bit of double bubble. Another double header this weekend and two lovely days, fished Acorn Fishery on Saturday and had an awesome day catching tench, perch, skimmers and quality roach for 20lb 10oz plus 26lb for a cheeky default section win. Bit of a catch up from recent matches, IAA’s Xmas Fayre on the Isle saw me finish third with one chub and some bits for 3lb 5oz. Another trip to Revels saw me win the silvers on Canal lake with 7lb 8oz of skimmers and roach. Summerhayes was frozen but five mad anglers broke the ice and my two roach was top weight with 6oz! Back to Revels for the Tuesday open and I drew Trendles for the first time, an enjoyable day catching 24lb 6oz of mainly carp but needed another 9lb to frame. I’ve been wanting to fish Acorn Fishery for a while now so when I saw it was the Charlie Barnes memorial silvers match, I booked in. A good turnout of 26 anglers and despite it being bitterly cold, some decent weights were recorded. I caught a big perch plus skimmers, roach and tench for 11lb 4oz and second place behind Martin Rayet who had 13lb. I’ve been gagging to get back to Revels so booked a few Tuesdays off work. There was a great turnout yesterday with 20 booked in and I was over the moon to get drawn peg 20 on Main lake again. It’s probably the best silvers peg on the complex, I had a really nice day catching skimmers, roach, perch, rudd and gudgeon for 12lb 5oz and a silvers win. I’ve caught on maggots over Special G F1 and Dark. Also landed several nuisance carp. It was the second round of Ruthie’s Cup yesterday at Harry’s, it was my turn to draw in the better section and I was well happy with peg 3. Fished Dave’s Trophy match at Stathe Drain yesterday. The last time I fished it was in 2018. Drew one away from where I finished second that day with two tench and some big perch on worm so decided on a similar approach. Had a few decent roach down the middle before going across, hooked a decent fish first chuck which came off, then had a nice skimmer, for the next couple of hours I struggled just missing the odd bite. With 15 mins to go, the float buried and I landed a lovely tench. Weighed 7lb 7oz which was third, Dan Baldwin won comfortably with 16lb 14oz of quality roach. On Saturday I fished the air ambulance match on the River Stour again, a superbly organised match and I’ve had a really enjoyable day catching roach, perch, gudgeon, rudd, bleak and dace on maggots, casters and pinkies over Bait-Tech Peo Nat Extra and Dark. When the scales got to the chap on my left, a certain Des Shipp and Gappy Parr were leading the section with 5lb 12oz, my neighbour had the same weight and then I weighed……5lb 12oz so there was a four way tie for the section! I love my Tuesday trips to Revels, I just wish I could go every week! It was a scorching day but I drew the best silvers peg on the complex in the shape of 20 on Main. As an added bonus I was in the shade for four hours. I’ve had a bite a chuck all day from skimmers, hybrids, roach, rudd, perch and gudgeon (plus a few carp of course) to finish up with 229 fish for 23lb 6oz and a silvers win. My best weight of silvers at Revels. I caught on single or double maggot over Special G Dark and The Juice groundbait.
