Fished Dave’s Trophy match at Stathe Drain yesterday. The last time I fished it was in 2018. Drew one away from where I finished second that day with two tench and some big perch on worm so decided on a similar approach. Had a few decent roach down the middle before going across, hooked a decent fish first chuck which came off, then had a nice skimmer, for the next couple of hours I struggled just missing the odd bite. With 15 mins to go, the float buried and I landed a lovely tench. Weighed 7lb 7oz which was third, Dan Baldwin won comfortably with 16lb 14oz of quality roach. Punkie Night
Tumblr media
Source: Calendar Customs website
On the last Thursday in October, Punkie Night takes place at Hinton Saint George, near Ilminster in Somerset. The local children go begging for candles bearing lanterns made out of manglewurzles, or mangold. The lanterns are of the same design as the Halloween hollowed out turnips or pumpkins, lit up by candles inside, and it is bad luck to turn down the kids’ requests. Unlike their Halloween cousins however, the punkie lanterns are ornately carved and decorated and the proceedings are led by a Punkie King and Punkie Queen who have been judged to have come up with the most impressive lanterns. The origin of the punkie lanterns are alleged to have been as way-finding aids for the drunken men of Hinton returning home from the nearby Chiselborough Fair, put out by their worried wives and girlfriends. This is possible, but it is just as likely the lanterns have the same ancient symbolism as those of Halloween - representations of the heads of the dead, indicating the onset of the dark time of the year at the old Celtic festival of Samhain.

any changes to wording and other elements would have to go through the synod's approval process before it would become official.“ So this is just a PR stunt to stay relevant instead of talking about how women are being impacted by the activism of the gender cult
The Church of England is considering how to refer to God without assigning a gender, its governing body says. But the church's General Synod adds that while it's been exploring the idea of adopting new language in recent years, no changes are looming.
"This is nothing new," a spokesperson for the Church of England said in a note to NPR. "Christians have recognized since ancient times that God is neither male nor female."
Acknowledging that the terms for God in scripture aren't always reflected in the ways people worship, the representative added, "There has been greater interest in exploring new language for years now, with the Church's Liturgical Commission regularly considering such questions since 2014."
A question about adopting "more inclusive language"
The question arose at this week's meeting of the church's General Synod, where the Rev. Joanna Stobart, the vicar of Ilminster and Whitelackington in South Somerset, posed a question to leadership asking where things stand in the move to adopt "more inclusive language," as The Guardian reported.
In reply, Bishop Michael Ipgrave, vice chairman of the church's liturgical commission, said the question was already being studied, adding that the church plans to launch a new project in the coming months to consider how gendered language should be used in reference to God. But, Ipgrave added, any changes to wording and other elements would have to go through the synod's approval process before it would become official.
"There are absolutely no plans to abolish or substantially revise currently authorized liturgies and no such changes could be made without extensive legislation," the church spokesperson said.
The work of considering the language used in religious services and rites will fall to a joint undertaking between the Church of England's liturgical commission, which sets the forms of service, and its faith and order commission, which advises on theology.

‘Awaab’s Law’ won’t save Black and brown tenants from malignant social housing Content warning: mention of death.  Three years ago, residents of the Ilminster block on Rochdale’s Freehold estate mourned the loss of two year old Awaab Ishak, first son to Sudanese migrants Faisal Abdullah and Aisha Amin. A child’s passing is in any case, unimaginably tragic. The case of Awaab Ishak is not only no exception, […] The post ‘Awaab’s Law’ won’t save Black and brown tenants from malignant social housing appeared first on gal-dem. https://gal-dem.com/awaabs-law-social-housing/

Revolutionizing Construction Projects with Scan to BIM Technology in Somerset
youtube
As the construction industry evolves, the use of 3D laser scanning technology is becoming increasingly popular. This technology is revolutionizing the way building information modeling (BIM) is conducted, allowing for greater accuracy and efficiency in the construction process. Scan to BIM, also known as point cloud to BIM, is one of the most powerful tools in this field, providing a complete 3D model of a building, including all of its features, both inside and out. South West Surveys is at the forefront of Scan to BIM in Somerset, providing clients with high-quality and precise data to assist in their construction projects.
Scan to BIM technology works by using a 3D laser scanner to capture data from a building or structure. This data is then converted into a point cloud, which is a large collection of points in 3D space that represent the exact shape and size of the building. This point cloud can then be used to create a BIM model, which is a virtual representation of the building that can be used for a variety of purposes, including design, construction, and maintenance.
There are many benefits to using Scan to BIM technology, particularly for construction projects. One of the most significant advantages is that it can save time and money. Traditional surveying methods can be time-consuming and expensive, requiring many man-hours to complete accurately. Scan to BIM technology can reduce the time required for surveying and modeling, resulting in a faster turnaround time for projects. This can also reduce costs as fewer personnel are required for data collection and modeling, ultimately resulting in a more cost-effective project.
Another significant benefit of Scan to BIM is its accuracy. Traditional surveying methods can be prone to errors and inconsistencies, resulting in inaccurate data. This can lead to costly errors in construction, requiring rework and potentially delaying the project. Scan to BIM technology, on the other hand, captures data with incredible precision, resulting in accurate models that can be used for design and construction with confidence.
Scan-to-BIM technology is also incredibly versatile. The resulting BIM model can be used for a variety of purposes, including clash detection, virtual walkthroughs, and maintenance planning. The 3D model can be used to identify potential issues in the design phase, allowing for adjustments to be made before construction begins. Virtual walkthroughs can be used to provide stakeholders with a detailed understanding of the building, while maintenance planning can help to extend the lifespan of the building.
At South West Surveys, we have extensive experience in using Scan to BIM technology to assist with construction projects in Somerset. Our team of professionals is dedicated to providing our clients with accurate and high-quality data to assist in their projects. We use the latest 3D laser scanning technology to capture data, ensuring that our models are accurate and reliable.
Our Scan to BIM services can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each project. We can provide detailed 3D models of buildings, including all of their features, both inside and out. Our models can be used for a variety of purposes, including design, construction, and maintenance. We can also provide clash detection services, identifying potential issues before construction begins, and virtual walkthroughs, providing stakeholders with a detailed understanding of the building.
In conclusion, Scan to BIM technology is a game-changer in the construction industry, providing accurate and versatile data to assist in construction projects. At South West Surveys, we are committed to providing our clients with high-quality and precise data to help them achieve their goals. Whether you're in the design phase or the construction phase of your project, our Scan to BIM services can help you save time and money while ensuring that your project is accurate and reliable.
