English test So, students of one of the places I teach at, have an oral test next week and we gave them the 4 texts they had to choose from. So, I decided to try to practice them myself, since I’ll have about 150 students to evaluate next week. I’m an english teacher there but I’m also French so I’m never confident about my prononciation which I know is “French” as a boss of mine used to joke about in front of the students (and jokes consisted of apologizing to them for the coude of teacher.. and making fun of my accent. 😭) Then one year, when we had to take an official english test -paid by us but with the higher score being rewarded by the school- I was the one with the highest score and my boss was sadly surprised and talked for months about that reward they were “thinking about” and I,of course, never got anything. Because they were, I knew it, hoping for another teacher to get the higher score. Some teachers didn’t give their score (too low) and native speakers refused to even take the test..!!! I know I still hold a bad grudge about this because their attitude worked negatively on my confidence for all those years teaching in this country. And it wasn’t fair how they treated some teachers compares to others. I never had it easy and worked hard to be a good teacher and I hope I can continue to improve myself. I mostly moved on from this work harassment anger but it pops up again now and then. Anyhow !! Which text would you have chosen if you had been taking that oral test ? (And I know I still make prononciation mistakes !! I wanted to slap myself when I checked these little videos ahah ! I’ll do my best to improve again and again !!! Learning is a privilege. We all have the choice to stimulate our minds with knowledge. As an educator, I find it difficult at times to keep all students engaged in reading and the art of writing. Our children have so many obstacles & distractions that draws their attention away. As an author, I am sadden by what I know our students are missing out on. The ability to create a world of creativity that forms on paper. The ability to want to read a story because their consistently engaged in the thrills of a novel. All across the nation we are facing the same issues. We are loosing our children to a world of fast paced societal norms that we have created. I am a mother, a teacher, a student, & author... There is no way I can continue to sit by & accept this as our (teachers) truth. It’s time to change what we consider as “normal” & show our children of tomorrow that we all carry creativity within us. Teachers need your help. Because we can’t do this alone! We need each parent, each mentor, each guardian, each comedian, each actor & actress, each rapper, each politician, each preacher, each sports star, to help us in our efforts to get our students to the place we all know they can be. Many teachers are giving up, quitting, leaving the profession they truly love. Many teachers are working two jobs just to sustain their families. On top of that, bring home papers to grade, creating lesson plans, going to parent teacher conferences—which In many districts less than 30% of parents show up. Someone...Anybody... EVERYBODY...Help us get our students on track by showing them that reading & writing is still enjoyable and important. I’m not telling you what to do. I’m just asking that you do anything. Anything in your power to help our children—Our future.
