Idiots Present: How to Fall in Love With Your Best Friend
Tumblr media
hi guys!! here is the original request from the lovely @winifrede !! I absolutely adore her and all her support, I'm so excited I finally finished this piece up. I love it so much and I hope y'all enjoy it!!
2.6k words!! xx mwah
Shayne's soft chuckle pulled your attention from your laptop in front of you down towards the man with his head in your lap. His nose was buried in his book, his blue eyes darting quickly across the words.
Your heart lept to your throat as his eyes finally met yours, a grin spreading across his face and yours.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer." Shayne taunted you, earning a light flick on his forehead.
"I have enough pictures of you already." You roll your eyes, trying to focus on your writing again, your best friend unwilling to help with that.
"Shayne," you warn in a hushed toned, your lips pressed together tightly as he sat up, his hand sneaking towards your side as he leaned into you. "Don't you dare."
"What? I'm not doing anything.." He chuckled, his cheeks bright red as you turned to look at him, the feigned harshness in your eyes qickly melting away.
Shayne's hand hovered at your waist, his mouth agape as his eyes searched your face. Your mind was racing as your eyes finally met his again, your heart pounding in your chest.
"Shan-Ye!"
You two jumped back a bit, settling back into the couch as your eyes looked anywhere but to the man beside you. Damien offered you a smile, but his eyes scanned over you suspiciously.
Damien, as well as most of your other friends, refused to believe that you and Shayne couldn't be just friends.
Sorry, just best friends.
"Are y'all busy for the next hour or so? We're about to shoot 'Idiot's Present' but we could use a few more audience members?" Damien asked, eyebrows raised with a hopeful grin. Shayne shrugged, checking his watch before glancing to you.
"I can't speak for m'lady, but I'm free." The brunette looked to you, an excited gleam in his eye.
"I mean, I'm free, technically." You chewed your lip, avoiding the puppy dog eyes both of your friends were giving you. do have to finish this sketch.."
You finally look away from your screen to find both men pouting dramatically, causing you to breaking into laughter, finally agreeing. You'd been in a few ideos now, especially with the recent amount of cast videos, but it was different because you often wrote for "ldiot's Present."
You begrudgingly gave up on fighting with Jeremy and Patrick over it. The two men were adamant in their arguments, claiming that they had the perfect idea in mind, all you had to do was trust them.
The videos you had been in were a huge hit, every small moment between you and Shayne had been the most rewatched parts. Shayne had his arm draped around your shoulder in one video, the next video fans pointed out how you had been wearing Shayne's dark green flannel.
The fans loved it, your Twitter mentions were filled with screenshots of the two of you. Shayne made it a point to watch the edits made for you two as soon as he'd discovered them. The last few shoots became a game for the two of you. You had so much fun watching everyone freak out over things that were so normal for the two of you, so what if you two made it worse?
You and Shayne didn't have any feelings for each other, none at all, so you two wanted to see how far you could take it. Shayne and you were more than happy to enact this plan, a recent stream driving the fans crazy. Shayne was building another Lego set, this time he had been able to get his hands on some Star Wars sets.
About halfway through the stream, Shayne had gasped when he found a certain figure. Grinning, he set the figure aside before glancing around behind the camera.
"Y/N, c'mere, I have something for you." Your head popped up from behind your laptop screen, quickly hopping up from the couch to join him on the set. You settled into the cushions beside him, waving at the camera.
Shayne set the figure slowly into your open palm, your face turning bright red as you burs into a fit of laughter at the sight of the Lego Jar Jar Binks in your hand. Shayne couldn't hold back his laughter as he watched you giggle at the inside joke, wiping away a few tears once you'd settled down.
"Should we.. I think we should explain it, right?" You asked, Erin commenting that chat seemed just as confused as they all were.
"Okay, it's, it's very stupid but... Jar Jar is into BDSM.." Shayne began, barely able to hold in his giggles as you hid your blushing face in your hands. "Call him Jar Jar Kinks."
"It's so dumb!" You call out from behind your hands as laughter ensues around you. Shayne didn't expect something so genuine between the two of you, a stupid joke you'd told him years ago, to become a moment the fans loved. The meaning behind the joke became a huge speculation for the fans, which you two found hilarious.
The more you two pushed it, the more your friends and coworkers began to question it. The two of you were blurring the lines of friends and more, and confusing everyone. No matter what, the two of you were adamant that you were just friends.
Finally, Jeremy and Patrick knew what they had to do, and set out on their plan.
Once you three arrive at the set, Damien is quick to fill the last seat in the audience, causing a quick burst of laughter to come from Shayne as the realization hits the two of you.
Your cheeks turn bright red as your mouth is agape, Kimmy and Kiana's giggles from behind you cause you to burst into your own fit of laughter.
"Okay, yeah, this is great!" Shayne called out sarcastically, clapping as you two are quickly mic'd up, the cameras rolling since the moment you'd walked in. "Hope you guys have the chimp ready."
"A double surprise, since we're double the idiots." You laughed as Shayne took your arm in his, leading you to the markers.
"We might be idiots on just about everything, but my partner and I are very clearly experts on today's topic." Shayne began, taking a step back, standing on the opposite side of the screen.
"That we are, Shayne. We've studied this topic alongside each other for years. Hell, l'd say, we've spent almost our entire friendship on it." You looked over your shoulder, Shayne nodding in agreement just as the slide changed.
You spoke with confidence, a small fit of laughter roaring across the audience, very few of them knowing just how deeply you'd just dug your grave.
The two of you stepped back, your arms spread as the slideshow began, grinning out at the crowd.
"Oh.. oh my god." Shayne shrieked with laughter as his eyes scanned over the title card, the room eruptina into fits of lauahter. Your head snapped quickly, your eyes wide as you squealed at the title, quickly doubling over in laughter.
"This is ldiot's Present: Falling in Love with Your Best Friend." You managed to get out, quickly turning your back to the board, glaring playfully at everyone that you could.
Your eyes landed on Patrick and Jeremy, their excitement evident on their grinning faces as they both offered you thumbs up.
"Shayne and I are best friends, who are definitely not in love, but we will show you how to become best friends in love today." Shayne took a deep breath, trying to hold it together as he looked to you. He couldn't read the emotions on your face, but the smile across your lips was enough to assure him that you two could do this.
"Step one," Shayne and you called out as you gestured to the screen. "Buying coffee?" You nodded in encouragement as Shayne read, the confusion evident on your face, as it seems to dawn on the brunette.
"Oh, okay." Shayne scoffs as he takes a step forward. "The easiest way to someones heart is through their.." He began, pointing to the crowd as they sat in silence. "Coffee order! Awesome, glad you quys got it."
You stifled your laugh as Shayne clapped, your cheeks blushing brightly as you realized where he was going.
"It's super important to learn the other person's coffee order early on, you need an excuse to talk to them." Shayne nodded, his cheeks blushed brightly as he took in his friends' knowing smiles. The two of you had been going to the same coffee shop since before you'd become friends, just now.. you know every one of Shayne's orders and he knows all of yours. Bringing each other coffee every morning, or afternoon, or evening is totally platonic and not just another excuse to see each other. "It's almost as important as step two, right, Y/N?" Shayne looked over his shoulder, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"R-right, absolutely." You agree, looking over your shoulder as the next slide is shown. You felt way more nervous than you'd expected to. Shayne and you had been pretending for a while, why did it all suddenly seem so real?
"Step two, sharing everything!" You turn to the audience, tugging at the sleeves of Shayne's flannel you had on, certain that your blush was permanent at this point.
"Shayne and I love to share everything, from clothes" You began, Shayne gesturing to you for example, the crowd giggling as he mirrored Will Smith's red carpet pose. "to food, to books, to friends!"
"They always say sharing is caring, and we love to show each other how much we care." Shayne nodded, stepping closer to you as his hand settled around your waist, tugging you into his side.
"Now, step three would be." You began, the screen displaying a set of pictures of you and Shayne, the two of you quick to look at each other.
Tumblr media
The twinkle in Shayne's eyes left a flutter in your heart as you took a deep breath, chewing your lip softly before turning toward the crowd.
"Examples, and Shayne and give plenty of examples of how to fall in love with your best friend.." You giggle, your cheeks blushed brightly as Shayne takes a shaky breath.
"Yanno, you've met your best friend, you guys are super close, now it's time for all the cute stuff." Your fingers are intertwined with Shayne's as he speaks, squeezing your hand gently.
"You guys should share your music, hold hands, cuddle... all things that friends do.. when they're in love." Shayne spoke slowly, small chuckles scaping him as kept talking. You nodded your head, grinning brightly as Shayne glanced over his shoulder to you. His hands were shaking, his heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. He'd never felt like this before, it was like he had been hit by a truck. Shayne is in love with you.
"For the next slide," You continued, finally looking away from his blue eyed gaze, worried about whether or not you'd be able to make it through the rest of this shoot. "We will be demonstrating how to admit.. your love."
You chuckled nervously as you read the slide, Shayne quickly moving to face you, his hands held out to you. You placed your shaking hands in his as you mumbled a small apology. You jumped bit as the crowd chuckles, pulling you back into reality. When you look up to Shayne, he gives your hands a gentle squeeze, taking a deep breath.
"Y/N.. my best friend, I.. love you." Shayne spoke out shakily, a small chuckle escaping him as his eyes scanned your face. A smile tugs at your lips, your mind and heart racing a million miles an hour.
Your mouth was agape as it dawned on you. You love Shayne. You've been spending all this time convincing yourself that you're not, but here you are, in love with your best friend.
"I love you too, Shayne.. my best friend." After a small beat, the room around you two burst into cheers of excitement. The two of you jump a bit, Shayne tugging you into him as he wrapped his arms around you, hugging you tightly.
Shayne places his lips softly to your forehead before taking a step back, a bright smile across his lips. You match his grin, your mind still racing, not certain of how true his feelings are.
"I mean that.. and I wanna talk about it off camera.." Shayne assured you, leaning in to speak quietly to you.
You two took a step back, Shayne's hand quickly grabbing at yours, your fingers lacing together. Your eyes scanned the room, taking in all the joy on the faces of your friends around you.
"And for the next slide," The two of you began laughing again as the final slide read 'Congrats Shayne and Y/N!'
"We will say our goodbyes! We hope you guys learned a lot today, my partner and I loved this opportunity to teach you guys how to fall in love with your best friend!" Shayne finished, holding your intertwined hands up in the air before the two of you bowed, cheers erupting from your crowd again.
Shayne quickly tugged you off to the side with him, frantically getting his mic pack off before he took a second, looking up to your grinning face. He couldn't believe he said those words, he couldn't believe he didn't realize it sooner.
You were quick to follow suit, taking off your mic before handing it off, leading the way off of the set. Shayne was quick on your heels, his heart racing even more than before.
As soon as you stepped into the hall, you turn around, wrapping your arms around Shayne, pulling him into you quickly. You can feel him sigh as he relaxes into your arms, holding you tightly.
The two of you hold each other for a few seconds, taking a step back and finally looking at each other again. You two break into a fit of laughter, the tension in the air finally seeming to settle after everything that had just happened.
"I'm never letting Patrick and Jeremy write for that again." You giggled as Shayne rolled his eyes playfully. "I'm thankful for that, though."
"You are?" Shayne looked to you with brows furrowed, your heart melting at the concern on his face.
"Of course am.. I don't know how I didn't realize it sooner..." You laugh softly, your cheeks burning brightly, finding Shayne's face matching yours.
"Me either, honestly. We're dumb." He laughed, resting his forehead against yours, your heart racing.
"Idiots, actually. Idiots in love." You spoke, Shayne sighing softly as his hand cupped your cheek softly, his lips lightly brushing yours.
"Shayne!"
You jump back a bit, a smile across Shayne's lips before he quickly presses them to yours, your eyes fluttering shut as he issed you gently.
Just as quickly as it happened, he pulled away, turning over his shoulder to see Damien waving him back into the room. You lean to the side, peeking around Shayne as Damien gasps, holding his hands up quickly as he notices you.
"Shit, I'm sorry! Take your time!" The purple haired man called out an apology before disappearing back onto the set, filled with embarrassment.
"Shayne," You called to him, a grin spreading across his face as he turned back to you. "I love you, seriously."
"I know." He chuckled, stroking your cheek gently. "I love you, too."
"This video's gonna drive the fans insane." You grinned, Shayne rolling his eyes playfully as he pulled you into his chest, holding you tightly.

Theme 11 customization
Regarding the simpler fields:
"Secondary title" refers to the title just above the posts, under the header and navigation. This defaults to "[Total posts] Works in [Username]" when the field is left empty.
"Filtered tags" takes a comma-separated list of tags, entered exactly as they'd be written in the Tumblr post editor but without the hashtag. E.g. the tags #politics, #red and blue, and #green would be entered as "politics, red and blue, green" (make sure there's spaces, and no comma after the last item!). The filtering plugin will then put a warning message over any posts with those tags, along with a button letting you show the post.
"[Section] title" act as the headers for the corresponding section, if provided. "Custom links title" defaults to "Pages" if nothing is entered, and is used when the custom links are displayed on the navbar.
"Featured tags" takes a comma-separated list of tags, in the same format as Filtered tags. This field will display links to those tags, along with the number of posts in that tag on your blog, in the left sidebar.
The Recent posts section displays the 5 most recently posted/reblogged posts on your entire blog, displaying in the left sidebar. If you enter a tag under "Recent posts tag", it'll instead display the 5 most recent posts in that tag on your blog. Only 1 tag is allowed.
Rules and FAQ
Both these sections work the same way. Each new item, a rule or a question, consists either of one statement, or a statement and some more text, usually as an answer or additional note. E.g. the screenshot below shows three rules, where the last one has more text in the dropdown.
Tumblr media
To create an item, prefix it with <li> . To add more text, create a <li> item and add a [more] label underneath, then write your extra text after that. To illustrate, here's the Customize page code for the above:
Tumblr media
Updates
This section is similar to Rules/FAQ, though it flips the order around. After each <li>, first list the date, then add the [label] marker, then add your actual update. Again, here's an example:
Tumblr media
And here's the Customize page code that created that:
Tumblr media
Toggles
This section displays checked/crossed-out items, and uses a simpler version of the formatting for the above sections. Use <li> for each new item, then add [on] or [off] at the end, depending on whether you want it checked or crossed off. Here's an example:
Tumblr media
And here's the corresponding Customize code:
Tumblr media
Progress bars
This section also uses <li> items, where each item has two parts: the text label, and the number(s) for the progress percentages, put inside square brackets like with the other sections. Here's an example (note how the top two use fraction values while the bottom one uses a percentage):
Tumblr media
And here's the code that made these. In short, the format is <li> Text here [##/##], or <li> Text here [##%], where ## refers to any number.
Tumblr media
Social links in footer
The footer links, aside from the email and personal website fields, take usernames or user IDs for various websites. Be sure to check you're not entering a username in a user ID field!
The Email address field takes a standard email in the format [email protected] and adds a link to let people mail that address.
The Personal website fields will generate a link in the footer's Follow section. Personal website name is the human-readable text label for the generated link, and Personal website URL is the URL that will open when the generated link is clicked. Make sure to add https:// to the start of the personal website URL so the generated link doesn't just redirect you to a different part of your blog.

You whimper in pain as the pounding on your bedroom worsens the intense throbbing going in your head. You're currently laying down on your bedroom floor. You managed to make it to your bathroom and halfway back to your bed before you just let yourself crumple to the floor. Your room was too bright and moving around too much made you nauseous and your head hurt more. You laid down on the floor with the intention of getting medicine and taking a quick nap before you had to leave for work once you felt a little better. The was 2, maybe 3 hours ago, it could be even longer. You're not entirely sure. You're not in a position to see your clock from where you are and your room is still too bright for you to open your eyes.
You're having a migraine, that much you knew. What exactly caused it this time is debatable. You only get migraines when you're stressed. You used to get them more frequently back in high school when the drama surrounding Changbin and your father started. And then again when you first started college. But, you've managed to keep it under control. You couldn't even remember the last time you had a migraine off the top of your head, thinking also exacerbating your symptoms. You didn't even realize your headaches were a warning sign for a migraine, you thought it was you've been having trouble sleeping after you spent less time at Seungmin's apartment.
“Okay, fine but I’m pretty sure she’s at that idiot’s apartment—oh fuck. I’ll call you back in a minute.” You whimper again at Jisung's loud, panicked voice.
"Please, be quite." You whisper, your own voice being too loud for you otherwise.
"Y/n, are you okay? Can you get up?" He says loudly again, he clearly hadn't heard you the first time.
"Jisung, please shut up." You try to say a little louder.
"What's wrong?" He moves your hair out of you face, causing you to squeeze your eyes tighter, the light shining through your eyelids.
"Quiet. Head hurts." You whisper one last time, trying fewer words so you don't have to talk as much.
Jisung reads your tear stained face and puts all the pieces of the puzzle together. He knows you get migraines and he knows how bad they can get, he's normally the one who takes care of you when you do. He quietly gets up and draws the blinds and curtains in your room. You have blackout curtains for moments like this. You hear him quietly shuffle around the room. You slowly open your eyes and breathe out in relief, squeezing them shut was also hurting your head more.
"Open your mouth," Jisung whispers. He was so quiet, you didn't know when he came back into the room.
You feel two small pills hit your tongue and a a little bit of water fill your mouth. You gingerly swallow the pills and mumble out a thank you.
"Come on, let's get up." You feel Jisung's hand on your back.
"I can't,"
"You have to. I promise your bed is comfier than the floor. Plus, you can hide under the blanket." He says softly. You're not sure if it's the tone in his voice or the volume of it or a combination of the two but you feel like crying again. He hasn't spoken this nicely to you in so long, it's almost foreign.
"Okay," You whisper back. You let Jisung slowly guide you up and lead you to your bed. You climb in and cover yourself in your blanket. Jisung quietly leaves again. You silently pray that the medicine kick in soon or it'll knock you out. You don't care which one.
You think about all of the things that are currently adding stress to your life right now. If you could figure it out now, you might be able deal with it when you feel a little better and prevent your migraine from getting worse.
First, there was your birthday dinner with your family. You know it's your idea to invite Changbin, but the idea of your dad and Changbin in the same room for the first time in years is daunting. The last time they were together they got into a huge screaming match. You're hoping you can try to resolve things next week. They both love you enough to not ruin your birthday with their pettiness, but that doesn't mean that they won't still end up fighting in the slightest. But you also knew that dinner next week meant that you were most likely going to get a lecture from your father at some point. You had gotten a D on the paper for you wrote for your preventable diseases course. You've never earned lower than an A in your entire life, and in all honesty, you didn't really care. Sure, being a paper that didn't hold much weight, it dropped your grade down to a B. What you were worried about was how your father was going to react.
Since attending JYPU, he's made you submit bi-weekly grade checks. He wanted to make sure his money was being well spent. You didn't really mind about it at first, you knew your grades were never going to slip. But now, you're not sure how he was going to react. He's always been more lenient on you compared to Iseul and Changbin. But you remember how bad the lectures Changbin would get are. He wouldn't get mad at your birthday dinner, but he was still going to say something. As ridiculous as it sounds, he could stop tuition payments or make you move back home if he thought that living with your brother is jeopardizing your future.
And then there is your one-sided fight with Jisung. You just want your best friend back but you know that there is no way for you two to go back to the way that you were. You went through every interaction you've ever had with Jisung, looking at it with a lense of him liking you. He's been flirting with you for years and you've been too oblivious to realize it was more than just casual banter. It's laughable, just not right now.
"Sit up," Jisung whispers, reentering the room.
You slowly sit, the medicine finally starting to kick in. Your head still feels like there is a loud speaker playing music so loud that you only feel the bass and several knives are slowly stabbing your brain all at once, but it was slightly tolerable now.
Jisung hands you a bowl of something. You take it, putting a small spoonful in your mouth. It's leftovers from last night's dinner.
"Thanks," You mumble.
"No problem." He says quietly, sitting on the foot of your bed.
It's so dark, you can't really see anything. You can't see the anxious look on Jisung's face as he waits for you to finish eating.
"I'm sorry," You whisper.
"You don't have to apologize for being sick. You know you get migraines." He gently places a hand on your knee.
"No," you take another spoonful, "I'm sorry for...not liking you back."
Jisung lets out a loud breathe. He removes his hand off your knee and stares at your shadowed figure. He can imagine the sad, pitiful look you have on your face. He's seen it enough over the years. He knows that your migraines are stressed induced, and he feels a little guilty knowing that he might be the reason why you're in pain now.
"You don't have anything to be sorry for. We can't help who we fall in love with. Ah, not in love, in like with rather. I'm not in love with you or anything like that. I'm just--"
"Ji, volume." You warn. He was getting to excited with his explantion.
"Sorry, I just--I'm sorry, okay? I was just upset but it was more to do with me being mad at myself than at you. It was just easier to take it out on you. And then after a while I felt bad about how I was treating you but I was too much of a coward to fix it."
"You were hurt. I know that your behavior was shit, but you were hurt. Still kind of mad at you for your tantrum, but I'll get over it. Life's too short." You take one last spoonful before putting the bowl to the side. You didn't eat all of the food that Jisung brought you, if you ate more you would probably actually throw up.
"You're too nice, you know that? I treated you like shit for almost 2 months, you shouldn't be forgiving me that easily. You should like, be making me grovel and beg for your forgiveness."
"You're loud when you grovel, I don't think I could handle that right now."
"I can grovel later."
"I will actually lose all respect for you."
"You respected me? Me? The guy you've seen walk into the patio door more times than you can count?" You start to laugh and wince in pain.
"Please don't make me laugh. It hurts."
"Okay, okay, we'll talk more later. Try to take a nap for now. I'll leave my room door open and my ringer on just in case." Jisung slowly stands up and takes the bowl from your bedside table. He gives you a quick hug before he heads for the door.
"Ji?" You hum, laying back down. Your headache is slowly starting to go away and making you sleepy.
"Yeah?"
"Love you," You whisper innocently. Exhaustion and your headache not letting you think properly about your words. You two would often tell each other you loved each other, it was a habit for you two.
You don't see the sad smile he gives you as his right hand rests on the door knob. He knows you don't mean it in the way that he wishes you did. And he knows that there's a chance you never will. He knows you mean it innocently, like you always have.
"Love you too. Get some rest, I'll check on you later." He whispers before leaving you alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Oh my god," You groan.
You woke up from your nap, head pounding again. The pills clearly worn off. You've spent past few hours drifitng in and out of sleep. As some point you had enough in you to walk to the kitchen and get yourself a cup of water while wearing sunglasses.
"Are you awake?" You hear a familiar voice whisper next to you.
"Minnie?" You mumble, turning your head in the direction of the voice.
"Yeah, I'm here." You feel the bed shift a bit.
"What...why...when did you get here?" You ask, slowly turning over more to face him.
You can't really see him, your room is still dark. You only see a part of his face, lit up by the small clip light attached to what you could only assume is one of his textbooks.
"I got here about an hour and a half ago. I called you after class and your roommate answered, told me you were sick. I came to keep you company. Brought you some soup." You feel his cool fingers brush some of your hair off of your face.
"Why?" You question. Not that you aren't grateful Seungmin is here, but you're not entirely sure you're ready for him to deal with you and your migraines.
"I told you, you're sick."
You feel the bed slight move and hear the sink and your bathroom a few seconds later. Not too long after, the bed dips again and you feel something cool on your forehead.
"You didn't have to come." You mumble, closing your eyes. The light from the small lamp hurting your head.
"I know I didn't have too, I wanted to. How's your head?" You feel him move you hair from getting wet by the compress.
"If you really liked me you you take one of my pillows and smother me to put me out of my misery." You quietly groan.
"How about I smother you with my love instead?" You feel his lips press into your cheek.
"I'd love that, but I don't think that would help me much right now." You sigh.
"Here," you feel Seungmin's hand slide under your back, "sit up."
You slowly get you with Seungmin's help. The bed moves quite a bit as Seungmin crawls behind you. You whimper in pain from the sudden jostling, earning quite apologizes from Seungmin. Once he settles comfortably behind you, he gently pulls your back against his chest. You rest your head on him, just below his chin.
"You have to wait a couple of hours before you can takes some more. But I did some reading while you were sleeping and a lot of people on the internet said that this was supposed to help with migraines. Just let me know if it isn't helping or starts hurting." Seungmin whispers just as his cool fingers find their way on your scalp. Seungmin applies gently pressure and slowly massages your scalp. Surprisingly, it is helping a bit.
"That feels nice actually. It's helping a bit."
"Then I'll do this for a while. Just relax, try to fall back asleep if you can." He presses another kiss to the top of your head before resuming massaging your scalp.

Do you have any advice you're able to give currently on dealing with ableist harassment and dogpiles? It's the whole nine yards - people putting words in our mouth even to the point of claiming we said the opposite of what we said; calling us crazy and insane and saying we should be institutionalized; blaming us for horrific and violent ableist harassment of people who also reblogged the same post we did who disagreed with us; and directly talked over and erased my experiences as a severely disabled person.
(What I said literally boiled down to: "hey, let's not moralize having hobbies because it doesn't make people less capable of harm or more likely to be an asshole, and also please stop saying all disabled people are abled enough to have hobbies because I've been disabled enough before to not be able to have even consumptive (meaning like watching tv or listening to music) hobbies for long stretches of time". There's a similar longer version of that on my personal blog as well, but the harassment is on my shared disability sideblog.)
Like I guess I just... it's okay if people disagree, but the amount of other disabled people who were actively cruel and literally saying people like me don't exist and being so desperate to shut me up talking about my experiences with ableism that they spam harassed the blog is really hard. Like I've been on the internet long enough to know that this is utterly par for the course for disability discourse and even to know that any claim of "can you believe someone said [ridiculous thing] is ableist" is a dogwhistle that it's either manipulation of or outright lies about what the original disabled person actually said in order to shut down the actual conversation but...
I know you've dealt with this, so do you have any more advice on how to handle it than "turn off anon, temporarily turn off asks if necessary, delete the reblog if the harassment gets too much" (already done, mod health comes before discourse as a hard rule)? Especially for like, dealing with the internal emotions about it and not just the situation?
Um also if you don't want to answer this at all feel free to just like, put a stop sign emoji or something and I won't send any more asks about it. I know you publish all asks but since I know this is a stressful subject I still wanna let you know that I will NOT be an unsafe person if you just wanna tell me to fuck off X)
This has been sitting in my inbox for quite a while bc I didn't have the energy to answer it.
There's no one good way to deal with dogpiles, and you've already listed most of them. A couple more, randomly:
Make sure you take time away. Go see a movie bc it'll make you put your phone away, you know?
Have someone else look at your asks and emails so you ain't gotta.
Report shit. It won't really do anything, but it'll make you feel better, anyway.
If you're actually physically threatened or any of the things really twig your "something is really wrong," make a Google Drive folder and stash screenshots in case shit escalates to you needing to talk to law enforcement. If nothing else, it'll help you feel like you're in control.
The last one is more helpful than you'd think.
I hope it's let up for you.

INSTALLING GSHADE FOR THE SIMS 3//
This tutorial only covers where to get it, and how to install it for The Sims 3 specifically, and add presets to the presets folder.
So to begin, download the GSHADE installer here. I use Windows, so I downloaded that one.
Then go to wherever you downloaded it to, and click/run GShade.Latest.Installer.
Tumblr media
Select your language, then in the License Agreement screen, hit I Agree.
Then, in the Choose Target Executable Location window, click on Browse, then navigate to your install folder.
Tumblr media
Mine was installed with Origin onto my "F" drive, so I navigated to SSD(F:) > Program Files (x86) > The Sims 3 > Game > Bin. This path will be different for everyone, especially if you got your game off of Steam, or by other means.
Tumblr media
In here, you need to find The Sims 3 icon that has the biggest file size, for mine, it's TS3, so I chose that.
On the Choose GShade Settings And Presets screen, tick the 32-bit box, and the DirectX 9 box.
Tumblr media
Then under Hooking, I just ticked Normal Mode.
Scroll down some more and you'll get to the optional settings, so if you're trying to convert Reshade presets to GShade, you might wanna look into that more, I don't really have any I want to convert, so I suggest you look up a more detailed tutorial on that or check out the GPosers site for more info on how exactly that all works.
Tumblr media
So for a fresh install we'll just stick with these boxes, but mainly the last one because it adds an icon to your desktop for an app that makes installing GShade binaries into your other games a lot easier, and also uninstalling them as well.
Under Final Fantasy XIV Presets you can tick any and all you want, they're presets created by Final Fantasy XIV players that are preloaded and ready to use if you wish.
When done, click Install.
Then wait until the green progress bar is full, and the Next button is no longer grayed out, then click that.
In the Installation Complete window, it'll give you an option to change the save location of any screenshots you take using GShade, similar to Reshade, feel free to change it, but if you're fine with what's already in the box, just click Finish.
Tumblr media
Now to install any presets you've downloaded, like my Pines preset, it's as simple as moving the config file you downloaded to your Program Files (x86) > The Sims 3 > Game > Bin > gshade-presets folder, so in other words, it'll be in the same folder as those icons you navigated to earlier.
Tumblr media
Open the gshade-presets folder, and throw the preset in there, and you're good to go.
When you launch The Sims 3, a little window will pop up at the top telling you, you were successful.
Tumblr media
Follow its instructions to continue onto the the UI screen.
GShade looks and works exactly like Reshade, so if you're familiar with Reshade 3, 4 or 5, you shouldn't have any issue working the rest out from here, and if you're not familiar with them, there are tons of tutorials on how to use the UI, switch presets, and create your own presets, and use the shaders. Even if it's a tutorial for The Sims 4, it will work the same for The Sims 3, it all works about the same in every game, that's the magic of Reshade/GShade.
Happy Simming!

CC, I desperately need to know. When commenting on or reblogging your fics, are suoer simple feedback comments still really nice to get? Like "This was beautiful" or something?
I'm struggling with feeling guilty because I am having a hard time getting energy to give longer comments and stuff. I usually write a few things about the story or related to the story but right now even just writing "I really like this!" has been taking a lot of energy.
Also, do you have an Solomon🤍 anon? If not...
~ Solomon🤍
Hey there anon! I don't have a Solomon🤍 anon, so I will be sure to add that to the anon list!
Now, as it happens, I have thoughts about this specific thing. I can't speak for all writers/artists, but I think my sentiments are somewhat universal since we're all creating and sharing on the same platform. I've also been on Tumblr since the very beginning, so that might have an impact on my personal perspective.
To begin, let me give you the short and easy answer: It is always nice to get any kind of feedback, even short and sweet comments like the ones you've given as examples. Please don't feel guilty about not leaving massively long, in depth commentary on things. Most people understand that not everybody has the spoons for that kind of thing all the time. It's honestly just nice to know that someone liked it at all.
That being said, I feel the need to give you a little bit more nuance about this particular issue, as someone who gets a lot of notifs nowadays.
Quite honestly, the fact that you reblogged it at all is really nice, even if all you do is tag it as "obey me" or something along those lines.
I get hundreds of notifications every day. And most of those are likes. I would say perhaps like 90%? It's a lot. And when one post is getting a lot of attention, my notifs just group them together. So it'll be like "username, username, and 12 other people" and then it'll indicate the post and that it was liked by all those people.
That means that if you reblog it, even without tags, it pops up as a separate notification. And to me, that's always nice to see. I'm always like OH! That person liked it enough to reblog! Thank you, friend!
I'm not kidding, that's my internal monologue lol.
I know there's a lot of discourse about reblogging vs liking, but I'm not really talking about any of that (I'm willing to share my thoughts if people ask though). I'm just telling you what it's like from my perspective.
Things that always catch my attention are reblogs with or without tags, a direct comment on a post, and asks.
Specifically about reblogs, there are different things that are more noticeable.
Like, yes, I'm going to notice if someone leaves a lot of tags gushing about how much they liked the story. I have screenshotted tags and comments that have made me happy just so I can go back and read them.
I often reread the reblogged tags on posts. It's writer-fuel.
And when I'm looking at the reblogs of a post all at once, I'm scrolling through and seeing one that's really in depth and one that's just "AAAAHHH" and i love them both equally.
Is it always going to be more meaningful and impactful if someone reblogs with a dissertation in the tags or even a whole analysis added to the post? Of course. But that is a rare occurrence and not something I ever expect to see. Nor would I personally want someone to force themselves to give more feedback than they can manage.
I just like to know that reading it meant something to you. Likes tell me you liked it, tagless reblogs let me know that you liked it enough to share it, but they don't really tell me much beyond that. A reblog that says "I really loved this!" lets me know that this piece of writing touched you enough for you to actually write a little response to me. You might even say something like, "I love *character*" or perhaps "that last line oof" or even just "a;lksdfkljasdfklj" - all of that conveys so much more to me than a like or tagless reblog. It doesn't have to be a lot. And when like five people do this on one post, it really adds up, too, you know? So I'm like Oh, the people like this one!! LOL!
So I guess what I'm trying to say is, the more interaction you can give is always appreciated, but nobody wants you to force yourself to have elaborate comments. Just a reblog is also appreciated.
That being said, if you want to get elaborate in the tags PLEASE DO. You don't need to push yourself, but you don't need to hold back, either!
I appreciate every bit of interaction I receive, of course. And I'm thankful for everyone that has followed me and enjoyed my writing!
I hope that answered the question, I'm sorry for rambling a bit lol. I just figured I could take the opportunity to talk a little bit about what it's like from my side of things! Thank you for asking, honestly, I appreciate that you're worried about making fic writers feel the love on their works! But you don't need to feel guilty, you're already doing more than most by reblogging and leaving any tags at all. 💕💕

Time for another Pirate AU + Mod Testing! Also, Happy New Year's! XD SO. This started out as wanting to test some new fun mods out that dealt with pregnancy and relationships---and the "updated" drunken mod walk.... So I decided that this would be another AU version of my pirates. Only it didn't work out well to my plans. The Captain was, and IS, super hard to get pregnant all the sudden. The male pirate has literally woohooed her about ten times and I got the pregnancy sound twice (( after upping the risky woohoo, that still didn't work )), and finally just cheated to impregnate her... which I still don't think worked. Ugh. However, with the one screenshot there, with the basic "I don't know who I slept with", I decided to mention a few AU ideas I had originally with these two as my ACTUAL characters (( the ones these two are based on )). These ideas lead off in different directions. My main idea was that (( imagine this is Tortuga, if you will--a massive pirate inhabited island, because a lot of my pirate ideas are based on POTC, and all the pirate books I own. XD Have I mentioned how much I love pirates? Mine you, the male character is *not* my personal character, but my friend's; I'm just using him for my female pirate's [dis]pleasure. >XD )) when my female pirate was younger, she met him on the island. He flirted with her any time he saw her at the pub, but she wanted nothing to do with him. Mind you, this would have been after her crush on The Commander, since this AU would still contain the events with that guy, so she's still a bit sour. If the previous never happened, she might've been more accepting to him as a whole. Eventually, she would end up liking him enough that she'd sleep with him--but never knowing his name. She would have been drinking, but not drunk--so it was completely consensual. He was known to kill women after he slept with them, but for some reason, didn't kill her. He just left in the middle of the night, leaving her alone. That event breaks off into another two AUs. The first being that she does meet him again later, during the "real" events that happen in my friend's and mine's RP, but they recognize each other and she threatens him that her family/in-laws *can't* know they knew each other at any point, and then proceeds to yell at him for leaving her. I also feel like they would pick up where they left of at--but it's more of a friends-with-benefits, and secretive, than romance... at least at first. The other is that she would up pregnant from that one night--and while she decides to keep the baby, she tells her family that she was taken advantage of, so they don't suspect it was her sleeping with a guy on purpose. Eventually, she does meet up with him again, but it's years later, and doesn't know he had a son with her. She is destined to only having a son with him, lol. If she IS pregnant, it better not be a girl. XD To be fair, I have several AUs with my female character, that actually DO NOT involve the male pirate, but rather two other men that were a part of her life in some way. While my Sims game starts off with them being younger; she 20 and he 21 (( the actual ages when they first met )), they are in reality almost 40 and almost 41. ....yeah, they've existed for a while now. And still haven't admitted they have feelings for each other! XDD For this Sims-AU, they are "together". Not really boyfriend/girlfriend, although the game tells me differently, they are above the "friends-with-benefits" stage. JUST GET PREGNANT ALREADY! I want to check out the cute new animationsssss! *throws save out the window* Alright, I guess stay tuned for Part 2? HOPEFULLY. {edit:} To say....yes, she was taking a pic of his fiiiiiine arse... it'll last longer. >XD And I'm sure he'd check hers out while she does yoga. Also--love the drunken walk, lol.

A little idea sprung to mind and I wrote a one shot!
Hope you enjoy (maybe you'll read this and you've heard this classic story us Scots like to spin 😅)
Also features a Mac headcanon and an original fallout themed pun for our boy to claim!
Content warning: Some mature themes and humour, so if your no over 18... Bolt 😘
(p.s I like this screenshot, so I recycled it 🤟)
A Scotsman never tells...
Tumblr media
"Like a Mole Rat, the size of a cat?" MacCready repeats with a frown, waving his hand through the smoky air.
The Boss' hands dance around, telling his story in a way only he can, and damn it, if his eyes don't sparkle in the dim light of the Third Rail's VIP room, and MacCready reminded himself he oughtta never play cards with the man.
Mac slowly chuckles, boots up on the coffee table, cigarette smoldering between his fingers. "I call brahmincrap," he argues, furrowing his brows. "I mean, I've seen some wacko creatures in the Wastes, but no way in heck there are creatures out there that could have lasted this long with such sparse action in the sheets—I mean, if it weren't for Duncan, the MacCready line would be headin' for extinction—one chance a year?” he scoffs. "No way a species would survive with those odds!”
Nate just chuckles, sipping his Scotch. "Well, those wee buggers have the bonus eh decent dental, son," he smirks with a wink. "Soon as they find their darlin', they're set for life."
That stings a bit. "Watch it, old man, keep yappin', and you'll be feasting on Blamco and beans for the rest of your days—"
The bastard raises his hands defensively, smirking. "Alright, alright. Simmer doon—just dinny forget to snag yersel' a toothbrush next we're in Diamond City— or else it'll be you choking doon canned goods."
"Goddamn it, I brush my teeth! Twice a day!" he bristles, tongue proddin' the crevices in his mouth. "Ain't my fault some teeth never bothered to show."
Nate's eyes soften. "Aye?"
"Had Rickets as a kid...one of the perks of living in a cave, I s'pose," he shrugs. "Lucy managed to work out a treatment for the 'Littles,' by then, the damage had been done." He sighed, fingers picking at the frayed armrest. "I mean, I do alright now—cold weather can be tricky, old injuries hurt like heck, and I always gotta work hard to keep my knees from knocking," MacCready tried a laugh. "I'm mostly pissed because Lucy always reckoned I should've been taller."
"Ach, just makes it easier for ye tae hide in tight spaces, lad."
His lips were curling before he could even get the words out. "Dunno about that, boss. You of all people should know the difference a few inches can make."
Nate scoffs, doing his best to look offended, but there's almost a hint of pride in those eyes before he's shaking his head. "Damn—Rickets, Mac? No wonder you tire out quick, lad...Ye're needin' to cook more, eat some red meat, get some dairy in ye...and lose the hat and layers when ye can, get some sun on your skin...You'll be at more risk of it coming back."
He can't help but laugh. "What, so if I start chowing down on Brahmin and Radstag and soak up the rays, I'll morph into some tall, dark, handsome stranger?"
Nate grins, swirling his Scotch, "Take it easy, it's not a magic potion, Rob—actually, Haggis might be great for your diet," he chimes, changing the subject, like he always does when they get off track.
"Haggis? What the heck are you on about now?" Mac chuckles, ashing his cigarette.
The animated Scott explains further. The Haggis—or 'Haggi,' plural—those critters he'd been yammering about—have longer legs on one side of their 'dumpy' bodies—means they can only scoot around the hills in one direction. It’s a one-shot deal: find a mate or wait another year for some action.
"Sounds like a crock of—"
"Hold on," he interrupts, a smile on his lips. "In Scotland, it was tradition for families to hunt a haggis, fatten it up, and serve it on Rabbie Burns Night, wi' some neeps and tatties..."
"Rabbie, who now?" He raises an eyebrow. "The frick are 'neeps'?” he guessed 'tatties' was just his the idiot pronounced 'tatos.'
"Rabbie Burns," he chuckles. "Famous Scottish poet. You need to broaden your literary horizons, MacCready." His laughter fades as he continues, "And a 'neep' is a turnip."
MacCready opened his mouth, about to ask the boss to further define 'turnip,' before he was cut off.
"My sister El, she would break her heart every year. Took her forever to accept that we had to cook up her wee pal."
As much as he tries to believe—this tall tale about haggis sounds as believable as a three-headed Radstag. "I still don't buy it," he scoffs, trying to suppress his grin. "You're pulling my leg. If these things are real, I'll eat my hat."
The idiot just laughs, downing the last of his Scotch. "Would ye prefer a tell ye' it's a bunch eh mushed up innards, mixed wi oats and cooked in an animal's stomach?"
"I think I'm gonna be sick—”
His guts were turnin'. He took a deep breath to calm it. He's shaking his head, grinning despite himself. "Well, if it's anythin' like molerat, it'll just burrow a hole through my caps stash...I'll stick to Radstag, surprisingly not as dear..."
Nate let out a wavering groan as he tried to suppress a laugh. "You're a wee arse, lad. Dang sense eh humor eh yours is dire."
"Yeah-yeah, believe what you want...you're clearly at home with your delusions—they're entertaining, at least."
He takes a victory drag from his cigarette, leans back, and watches Nate's eyes dance as he delves into another tall tale about some sea monster.
Despite his skepticism, Nate's tales offer a rare glimpse into a world beyond the Wastes. So he listens, the taste of stale smoke on his tongue and a story spinning out before him.
He realizes this—this is as close a guy like him could get to what he always envisioned it would be like, to grow up with a father—lulled to sleep with a late-night tale about Wasteland beasts and heroic adventures.
The dad he couldn't wait to be.
Tumblr media
Yay, found family 🥰

I wanted to hop on the Barbie mugshot screenshot redraw trend since I've been seeing a lot of them on Twitter and here too, but since I no longer have any interest in happy tree friends I'll only be posting flippy/fliqpy stuff because I heard that the show will be returning soon with this game called the crack pet show. Idk if it'll be a crossover episode or there are going to be characters from htf in the game but I'm so excited about it!! I know it's been about 6 years since htf last had an episode but this will be a great comeback for sure! (Unlike the nfts that nobody cares about, blegh)
Buuut anyways, here's my take on the Barbie mugshot screenshot redraw challenge but with my two favorite bearies 💚💚

(WIP) Seeker Career for the Sims 4
Hello, it's been a while hasn't it? University has kept me busy the last while or so but trust me I've still been working on and tinkering with things for Luctine. In the pipeline, I've got a new flash fiction piece from my previous class to edit, and will post that here soon.
Pivoting a bit to the title of this post. I've been playing a lot of Sims 4 recently and like most creatives do who make a lot of ocs, I like to play them in the Sims. I especially love playing sim versions of my main cast of characters, many of whom are seekers. The issue I usually run into though is what job to place them in. I've tended to lean towards the military career for most seeker characters and the paranormal investigator for silver seeker characters.
Well, no more making do for me! I decided to look into it and am figuring out how to make custom careers for the Sims 4! Aside from the fun of learning new skills, this has been a lot of fun to plan and write out descriptive text. Here's some screenshots of stuff in game.
Tumblr media
Still need to put together an actual preview image, I'd also like to make a custom work icon. Maybe looking into actually designing a logo/insignia for the seekers?
Tumblr media
Obviously have some strings to edit, that should say Seeker Initiate for the Bureau... I think I know where to do this but it's nice how easy this career is to test.
Tumblr media
I'm going to have a lot of fun writing all the level descriptions. The part that will take longer is figuring out pay and what skills are needed for each promotion.
I've got all the levels of this career planned out, at least title-wise. It'll be a 10 level career with 2 branches. One for Silver Seekers which will lean more into the skills like logic, medium, and maybe vampire lore. Then a Guilded Seeker branch focusing more on fitness and charisma.
There's still more to be done before this is ready for you guys to download but I was excited with what I had done and wanted to show what I had so far. I'll show off more stuff as I progress with this and if this works out well I'll probably start making other Luctine themed mods for the Sims 4.

Apparently I'm playing a little Factorio every day and sharing it on Tumblr afterwards.
New production this session is pretty much nil. Two chemical plants making lubricant (twice as many as I need, but I wanted to clear the inventory spot), two new assemblers making engines, and another assembler turning those and some batteries into electric engines.
Tumblr media
(The red is turret ranges. This is right at the northern end of my base—if I didn't have turrets here, the bugs would eat my belts and drink my lube.)
I couldn't really do more than that, because my iron was fast dwindling. By the time I started setting up the new iron outpost, my starter iron patch had dwindled to maybe half its original size; it was literally gone by the time I set up the unloading station. By the end, my base wasn't even producing basic stuff like inserters or ammunition.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Plans! First, I cleared out some biter bases to the south, since they were sitting on this area:
Tumblr media
(The red is pollution. Except the circle, those are turret ranges.)
I'm trying to plan ahead and build something that can last me at least until the rocket launch. This area has four iron ore patches totaling close to 30 million ore, which should last me a while. If I put a smelting array and train stop here, it could continue being useful until I've used up all of that iron, which would take a while.
Another thing which takes a while is moving back and forth between this iron and the base. Let's look at a bigger map.
Tumblr media
(Obviously, this screenshot was taken after everything was done.)
I had to keep going back and forth because I kept running out of basic building supplies, due to a combination of forgetting things, underestimating how much stuff I'd need, and the dwindling production of my starter base.
As you can see, I decided not to mess with the coal for a wide variety of reasons. It's actually pretty far from most of the iron, it's really close to more biters, I wanted to use my shiny new electric furnaces, etc. Speaking of shiny new toys, personal construction bots were pretty handy.
After a lot of running around and fixing/reinforcing turrets when Problems started to break stuff and so on, I got the outpost set up.
Tumblr media
(This is a composite of two different images, taken at very slightly different times. If I had realized the sun was rising I would have taken them slightly later.)
This is a huge iron mine; it'll take a while before I need anywhere near this much iron. Still, figured I'd build it all now while I was there.
I left some room to expand smelting in the future if necessary, and build a simple train station.
Tumblr media
Not much to say here. Once production picks up I'll probably want to load from both sides, but loading time isn't really a constraint right now. Also, I threw some laser turrets around, in case all that iron mining and smelting attracted some Problems.
Let's look at the unloading station.
Tumblr media
As you can see, I had the train pull up to basically where the old iron miners and furnaces used to be. You can also see that the train left, leaving behind enough iron to keep production going for quite a while! By the time we work through twelve thousand iron plates, the train will probably be back with a second load.
So that's the big problem solved. But here you can see a smaller problem: Stone ran out. It was running out slightly faster than iron, though the last few squares of resources lasted a little longer than iron's.
In any case, if we want to keep making stone bricks and rails and landfill that I don't really need but also will probably need a lot when I do need it, I'll need to get a new source of stone. I actually started setting up a stone outpost this session...then I realized that I was actually about to run out of iron, and that's a bit more important.
Aside from that, I should probably clear out some more biters, especially to the northeast.
To defend most of my base, I just stuck a few turrets around, just close enough to support each other. In areas that keep getting attacked, I stick them slightly closer together. But in the northeast corner?
Tumblr media
Biters keep attacking this spot, and they keep focusing fire on whatever turret is farthest northeast. If I don't want to keep replacing turrets (and I don't), I needed to beef up my defenses.
But the best defense is a good offense; clearing out biter nests means that more pollution gets absorbed by the terrain and less gets turned into new Problems.
Speaking of those Problems:
Tumblr media
For some reason, most of the bases within pollution range have lots of spitter spawners and not many biter spawners. It's pretty common for attack groups to look like this—hordes of small spitters, with a couple medium biters mixed in.
Anyways, that's about all i have to talk about.

Doin Numbers
Today Bonnicula's Cursed Castle hit the top 1% of Twitch for the first time by the fractional hair of a rounding error. But goddamnit I'll take it. It's been an intense 9 months of working at it so it feels awfully good to hit a milestone that I didn't think we'd make in just our third quarter of streaming.
Tumblr media
Ooh. Just look at that blue, baby. Feels good.
Tumblr media
Take a screenshot though, it'll last longer. But I wanted to talk about numbers for a bit, how I think about them and what they mean to me.
A lot of streamers say "don't worry about numbers. Cover up your viewer count, it'll just get in your head." See, I personally like the numbers. I check mine every day, and I track most of my fellow streamer friends too (I don't talk numbers with them though since I know it does make some folks anxious). I like watching lines go up and down. I like seeing the different fluctuations that happen week in and week out, the vagaries of holidays school schedules and trends lifting people up and casting them down. Of course it's always nicer when number go up but I take the number go down in stride, with all the dignity and poise I can muster. I've had dips but the progression has been steady. I intend to continue that trend as best I can.
Tumblr media
But paying attention to numbers really does show you just how variable things are in the streaming space. I go up and down tens of thousands of positions in ranking from day to day. It can look chaotic and arbitrary at first. But in time it narrows your focus in on the numbers that matter and the numbers that you can ignore. Twitter follower count? Meaningless without analysis. Quality community mutuals that engage with and retweet your content are worth a hundred followers gained from a viral tweet or a giveaway that never touch your content again. There's folks with tens of thousands of followers on twitter that struggle to get engagement on a tweet, let alone a going live notification. Twitch Follower count? Same deal. There are channels with ten times my follower count that have lower viewership and I'm sure the inverse is true too. Having a network of co-creators to raid and cross-pollinate your communities with is invaluable. Average viewership is the only number I look at that doesn't need much deeper analysis beyond active chatters versus lurkers. Either way it's as close to an objective metric of progress as we have. You didn't ask but you want my takeaways so far? Quality presentation and a focus on retention is key. You have to catch someone's eye and then hold that eye. Be engaging with chat as much as you possibly can, even in collabs. Reward interaction and engagement. Incentivize return visits. I have a channel point redeem called 'Enlist In The War Effort' that allows folks to commit to sticking around for the entire stream in exchange for a popup picture of an amethyst, a sound effect, and a counter by their name that goes up. Folks love it. It's the biggest brain thing I've ever implemented.
Tumblr media
So that's my piece. Numbers in and of themselves are nothing to worry about. Your own excellence is the focus, the draw, the glue that holds it all together. Focus on a sharp presentation that makes folks swing in and say 'I love your setup!' Then hold those folks by being friendly and engaging and rewarding them for sticking around. Shit, if all else fails give them an onstream pet to feed and take care of. My Schmoo does his job well. Think about your skills and what you can offer to people out of them to keep them with you. The numbers aren't always what they seem, and the only one that really counts is you, baby.

Hi there! If it isn't rude of me to ask, how long does it usually take you to make one click and drag game?
Hi! I don't find it rude at all! I think it'll be a fun thing to answer actually
I'm gonna go long with this one, do bear with me!
So it usually depends! Anything I make from scratch will definitely take longer than anything I've already created gifs/banners for. If there are a lot of characters (~20-50), it'll take a WHILE (like ~2-4 hours) but if there are only a handful, it can take just about 45min to 1.5 hrs)
If you want me to go into specifics, I'll go through my step process! first, I'll have to look for pictures to use and crop them all which would generally take me 5-7 minutes for each character. Then I'll have to compile those images into multiple gifs which would take me roughly about 3-5 minutes for each different gif. Then, the last step would be to finally add the labels and "@" for each gif (taking ~2 minutes each)
After explaining this process, you can imagine how long it'd take to create gif sets that include 20+ characters 🥴
For this blog, it's much more of a straightforward process that I stick to more consistently in comparison to how I do things in @deescade. In @deescade I basically follow the same process, but now, I'll be including the time it takes to brainstorm new ideas/themes/scenarios. Things will take a LOT longer because I try my best to be creative with 'em. (Especially for games that include text/worded outcomes such as Date! Scenario or 7MiH). Whereas, on @anime-clickanddrag-geemu , I simply use the standard outcomes (bff, rival, lover, cockblock, etc.) that you'd often see in the original click and drag games back in 2014-2015, so there's no extra level of creativity that's required of me
I'm not sure if you've seen my games from when I first started out this blog @anime-clickanddrag-geemu (back in 2018), but if you look back at them, you'll notice how a lot of them were not mobile friendly and were quite plain in terms of format. Back then, I would use only one base gif to use for the rest of the options so if you screenshotted it, your results would mostly end up being the one single character (or sometimes 2 of the same characters) you screenshotted. So in order to get a wider variety of characters/results, I would take the extra step of creating multiple, differently ordered gifs, specifically 9 gifs in total.
My process required less time before, but as my click and drag games began to grow more popular and have been getting more feedback on it over the years, I'm spending more time in order to fix those kinks and inconveniences to the best of my ability. I feel like I've accomplished that with @deescade the most, which is why I'm much more active there than on here. The ideas that I come up with on deescade are more fun and interesting too, albeit it takes longer to create.
It's a really tedious process that I'd rather not spend that much time on, but if it makes my games easier to enjoy for myself and others, then I don't mind it too much.
Thanks for asking this question, I enjoyed answering it! :)
Stay safe!

Do you have any advice / resources / ancient magics to make, like. Combat flowcharts or something of that nature to streamline decision making?
We're coming into the final battle of our campaign and the DM asked us to find ways to help make combat smoother – we're averaging an hour per round, with dozens of abilities and items each, and us DPS rolling upwards of 20 dice per turn. Obviously by now we've found ways to streamline (pre rolling, side chat, etc) but if we hit a snag on WHAT to do bc of a Counterspell or silence or someone going down, it comes screeching to a halt.
IDK you feel like someone who probably has an excel spreadsheet accounting for every possible scenario :P
funnily enough i have been toying with the idea of switching my own personal technique for combat tracking as a player to a spreadsheet which i recently did with encounter tracking from the DM side, but I haven't really dug into that at all because I know it would make me lose my mind trying to set up the automation while making it look aesthetically pleasing.
that being said, i have two pieces of commentary and i'll also share a few of my own strategies as well as two personal anecdotes to try to explain what i mean:
a) don't make a flow chart. no clue if you'll see these posts but as of writing this (12pm EST July 13th) I've just gone on a minor rampage talking about how I don't think flow charts are worth it even though that's the one of the current pieces meta in online TTRPG spaces because of aabria / laerynn, which is fine if it works for her and it IS fine if it works for other people.
however, in my opinion, i think flow charts will do a bad job of preparing anyone for the unpredictability of combat and will actually pigeonhole you into using the same strategies over and over again because they look good on paper and are written down in front of you. i don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to write down cool combos or have information in front of you (spoiler alert, i do that) but i think the term flow chart and the idea of an 'if/then' structure is going to be fundamentally useless and stress inducing.
b) speaking as someone whose been on both the player and dm side of this, if your rounds of combat are taking over an hour, this is an entire table problem. this is on the dm for their encounter design / the pace they take as the opposition (whether it's managing too many NPCS/monsters; too complicated statblocks, or indecision) as well as their need to keep things flowing at the table. It also largely depends on party size, if you're a big party, a longer round is normal, but everyone should be moving fairly fast. i'd ask your table as a whole what they think the issue is and and how to remedy it as a whole, not just one 'side' of the table.
now onto my strategies for both of these things. i'm going to explain my version of 'flow charts' last because it'll have screenshots and get long and i want to put something else before i slap in a readmore
my #1 tip for how to pay attention in combat and how to be better at combat is use other players turns to develop your strategy.
use their turns. pay attention to what they're doing so you can base your next turn off of the current state of the board, listen to what they're doing so you can remind them 'hey you've got a bardic' or if you can throw a reaction to counterspell, throw it then. otherwise: this is the time to look up your spells or other complicated abilities and make sure you've read the fine print. that way when it gets to your turn in combat you have the most informed, updated plan of what you can do.
now i'll throw my pc combat tracker under the cut as well as some personal anecdotes for why i think flow charts aren't the right choice
i've made an extensive post about how i think the best thing someone can do when designing a character's combat strategy and options is think about your action economy.
now, ignore anything that looks not RAW, this was a oneshot with funky combat rules (everyone had action surge and extra attack regardless of class; dm is insane for this) and i was using a homebrew warlock subclass, but the fundamental layout is the exact same i use for any character, I just like this example because it's not too crowded
Tumblr media
fuck a flow chart, all you need is your abilities laid out in front of you. I think it is much more helpful to sort via action economy and leave shorthand for myself on what things do and use another document or something like 5etools to keep all of the fine print for when I need to look into them.
Then, the ability tracker is key. Not only does this help you keep track of what resources you've expended, it keeps everything super close together. i left the attacks / item information section in this screenshot because it shows that this is quite literally the only thing i'm looking at in combat 95% of the time. my health and AC is at the top of my sheet because that's how my sheets are structured but frankly, if i switch over to spreadsheet pc combat trackers they'll be smushed in here as well.
this gives you all of your fundamental information laid out in front of you so you can develop your strategy on the fly and make the most of every single piece of your action economy you have. I also enjoy having the miscellaneous actions section because again, sometimes i forget they exist and they're quite good. also occasionally i'll use item information or ability tracking to keep little notes for myself when i have something like bardic inspiration or want to remind myself to cast a spell.
why i find this more useful than a flow chart is that it lets you rely on your own intuition and the situation at play instead of a set strategy, which really just doesn't work for dnd in my opinion.
why i think flow charts aren't a great idea i've already talked about but here are two personal stories from recent combat that i think summarize it with an actual play example:
Curse of Strahd, Yester Hill Fight. The gimmick of which was that the druids were concentrating on summoning animals that were whooping our ass and were super spread out. we needed to crush their concentration as fast as possible. In one turn, I beat the concentration out of two different druids a bit over 150 ft. apart. How? I was hasted. A situational thing that you couldn't plan for in a flow chart. I also had no idea WHAT the encounter would look like to plan for it. I had to rely on what the circumstances were and what I had on my character sheet in front of me. Ophelia uses Dhampir stats so i had a 35 ft. movement speed, with haste that's 70 ft. + a hasted action. I used blood cursed of the mark to deal extra damage and gain advantage (bonus action) and my first attack (action) to make a bite attack against one druid. It hit, and because I'm a mage slayer they have disadvantage on their concentration check. I also used bite empowerment (free action) to get a bonus to my next ability check or attack roll. I then used my hasted action to dash, moving 140 ft towards the other druid, to make my second attack (still of my attack action), with a +7 (i believe) additional bonus to hit, and used lunging attack (free action) on my chainwhip to get the 15 ft reach necessary to hit the second. The attack landed, and the druid again, had disadvantage on concentration. Both druids dropped concentration. This is a turn you cannot replicate on a flow chart. There's no logical reason in a vacuum to take one attack, dash and move 140 ft away and take your second attack. There's no way to even know you could move that far. Why I was able to do this was because I was able to look at my action economy and all of my abilities in a condensed way and calculate how to use every single thing I possibly could to do what we needed to do to get control back over the encounter.
The Frayed Mind. This is an example from Gestalt game so ignore if the abilities sound absolutely bonkers powerful, they are, but the same theory of planning a flow chart around 'the most optimal choices' isn't helpful. Rualinn's build is primarily based around stacking upcasted shadow blade (psychic damage) and smites (radiant). The boss we were fighting, the Frayed Mind, as well as most of the enemies in this area, were immune to psychic damage. This meant my character's primary strength and what she was built to do wasn't going to cut it here. Which is fine, I love a challenge, and I think DMs SHOULD challenge what they know their players can do to make them think outside of the box. So what I had to do for this entire arc was realize: I could not play Rualinn optimally the way I built her to fight, however, I still had a ton of versatility and options to readjust as needed. I started relying more on physical damage she could do as well as using her spellcasting for more than just smites. I used her radiant consumption for the first time, used my action surge to cast Fly for maneuverability on the battlefield instead of extra attacks, used Watchers Will for the first time as well. It was a super fun area and boss fight even though I was getting my ass kicked, it made me play to the other strengths of the build I put together. If you put together a list of just the most optimal choices, you won't ever see what the unoptimized choices are. And frankly, most of the time you'll have to make 'unoptimized' choices. Combat is about making due with the situation and the the best you can do the moment.
tldr; i think using flow charts pigeonholes you into options that sound good but could end up not being applicable / keep you from being prepared for things going wrong, the individual challenges of boons of combat you can't predict, etc.
if you want to get 'good' at combat, know your action economy, track your abilities, and use other players turns to plan your strategy as the encounter changes and develops. your plan on the wizard's turn might change by the time you hit the cleric's turn because the fighter's now been knocked and you're the person who could get them up fasted instead of attacking, etc etc.
