You know what made me take to Rock Lock rather quickly?
He treats being a Pro Hero as a damn job.
Look, debut episode he came off "mean", but plot reasons and genre aside, he had a fucking point.
Why in the hell were high school kids brought in to deal with the damn Yakuza?
Mind you, this is coming from a man who has a whole wife and a baby son.
Compared to Endeavor, Rock Lock is a lot better than his ass. In fact, he's a lot better than most of the Pros considering most of them treat being a Pro Hero like being some celebrity. Mt. Lady and Best Jeanist are examples.
Uh, didn't Endeavor not only become a Pro Hero because he wanted to one up All Might and even went as far as abusing his family?
Rock Lock being "mean" isn't him being malicious compared to some other characters who are a lot worse to children.
He was making a point that being a Pro Hero isn't some game. You literally put your life on the line. Let me remind you that some of the kids want to be Pro Heroes just to be famous, Mineta for example.
I would be critical, too, when if someone decides to risk their life for the sake of just wanting to be popular. The man has experience being a Pro Hero. He probably has seen Heroes die!
Seeing kids, children, minors walk into a meeting about dealing with an evil organization in that was currently lead by a man that was EXPERIMENTING ON A CHILD probably brought fear into the man as he, again, has a family he loves.
Unlike some fucking Pro Hero.
And it's not like he is this "cold, heartless angry" man. He indeed gives credit where credit is due. You just have to earn it. Midoriya is my baby, my green sunshine, he is my favorite. But in the eyes of Rock Lock, he needed to prove that he wasn't one of those people who wanted to be a Hero just because. Again, Midoriya is a child, one who is sometimes reckless when his emotions get the best of him. That is not good when it comes to being on the field when fighting villains who are unpredictable and could kill you.
Also, during the Shie Hassaikai arc, he did show concern for Amajiki when he got hurt. So again, he isn't heartless.
He's just professional and doesn't play games.
Endeavor didn't even want to take Bakugou and Midoriya in for the Work Studies, he was actually annoyed by their presence.
What does that tell you about his character?
Exactly what was his excuse for that annoyance when they came there to get experience. It wasn't as if he didn't get to train Shoto. He was just being a little bitch.
People wonder why villains are the way they are, but if some of these Pros cared less about their fame and egos and more about the fact that their duty is to save people like Rock Lock, than maybe the villains wouldn't be the way they are.

❝Summer Riskiness❞ || Fat Gum X Rock Lock
Tumblr media
✧Request by @princeasimdiya12 !!
《So the idea is that the two go on a beach date with Rock Lock wearing nothing but a speedo and a face mask. In truth, he'd have on a cock chastity, a vibrator and his mouth stuffed with underwear and sealed with duct tape. His objective is to get through his date and pick up some souvenirs without anyone exposing him or him cumming in public. And of course fg would tease and torment him.
Also, just like before, can you ensure that Rock will mmph and moan through his gag please?》
✧A/N: *guiltily walks in* At this point just call me irresponsible ureee (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)
So, she's back from her long writer's block, been a hassle, along with the deteriorating mental health like christ what's next. Anyways, @princeasimdiya12 I PROMISE I DID NOT FORGET YOUR REQUEST HUN, didn't know I was gonna experience a hell of a month, I swear I felt guilty every day knowing you are waiting. (ಥ﹏ಥ)
✧Warning/s: NSFW content under cut, MLM, established relationship, over-stimulation, bullet vibrator, exhibitionism, Rock Lock's mouth duct taped shut, slight dacryphilia, Fat Gum being a tease (as usual), chastity cage, muffling.
✧Summary: Fat Gums hot headed lover had a secret kink that he has yet to realize and explore, fortunately for him Fat Gum is always willing to give his sweets the pleasure he desires! ♡
Minors kindly don't interact!
_________________
“C’mon sweets, it's gonna be real fun. Do it for me, yeah?”
Fun his ass, how in hell was this fun?!
Sunny skies paired with ice cold popsicles, children and adults alike jumping towards the salty sea as they turned sun kissed.
The innocent scenery of the summer season thrives in front of the two heroes as they enjoy their rare days off on the beach. The fat hero sits peacefully as he hums on his seat, on one hand he holds a refreshing fruit shake to cool off his sweaty body…and on the other rests his phone that he keeps fiddling with, as he playfully adjusts the intensity of his lovers bullet vibrator that has been shoved inside his quivering hole.
While Toyomitsu hummed gleefully on his seat, Takagi was asked to buy some items at the nearby souvenir shop. You know, like cute keychains and graphic T-shirts, simple right?
Well, Takagi wouldn't be so pissy about it if Toyomitsu wasn't in his usual horndog mood! Though to everyone's point of view, there was nothing wrong with his appearance, what hides within his black tight speedo resides his cock binded with a chastity cage and his ass being abused as it vibrates constantly— resulting in stimulating him even more.
What makes it even worse is that Toyomitsu wanted to go even beyond risky and annoying by making Takagi shove his used cum covered underwear inside his mouth, making him unable to speak coherent words. And to make sure this stays inside his mouth, Toyomitsu duct taped his lover's mouth. Fortunately, he was wearing a face mask to hide such a sinful sight.
Now, he will just be a complete mess as he deals with this pleasurable torture.
Takagi is pissed, actually, he is beyond pissed! When his plump lover suggested this, he flat out refused and protested as he followed up with his usual fiery attitude. But of course, other than the sweets that Toyomitsu consumes, it seems that his words now are also sweet as sugar, because he was able to convince his lover, despite his protests.
Thought not surprising, Toyomitsu is highly aware of how much his lover very much enjoys the risks that this play has.
Just recently when they ravished one another on Toyomitsu’s desk, and as usual Toyomitsu would utter the filthiest yet sweetest words. Saying how there's a high chance of being caught by one of the students and the other sidekicks. Or that people from the other buildings can see the fucked out look he has on through the tall glass windows that covers Toyomitsu’s office.
And the way Takagi's hole would clench tight as more cum drips down his cock. “Tsk tsk, so filthy~” Toyomitsu teases as Takagi’s moans and whines become more lewd, as Toyomitsu could only groan whilst his thrusts become sloppy, close to his climax.
After that instance, Toyomitsu knew that his lover had some filthy fantasies that needed to be fulfilled!
Going back to Takagi, he has finally arrived inside the souvenir shop. He looks around for the items that Toyomitsu specifically asked him to purchase, a small challenge to make this experience even more exhilarating. Takagi mentally rages as all he can do is furrow his brows in anger. However this falters once he feels that the vibrator has become much more intense than before. “Gnh hn!” He could only hold on to the nearest shelf as he was trying to stand straight, but finding it impossible at the moment.
He starts to become breathless, good thing he has a mask on because people could have seen the obvious red tinted cheeks he has on. Takagi was currently in a daze, almost every part of his body was being pleasured, his needy cock, his tight hole, his filthy filled mouth, and the risk of being caught from such a dirty act, it was all too much for him.
Fortunately, Toyomitsu showed some mercy and lowered the intensity, this allowed Takagi to continue to roam around the shop. Though by then he was already huffing for air, his surroundings becoming hotter than usual. To his luck, he was able to quickly find keychains and a graphic shirt in his size.
Relieved, he approached the counter to pay, however Toyomitsu had to turn the intensity at the wrong time! His behind started to violently vibrate as his knees became weak, fortunately the cashiers desk was there to keep him on his feet.
The woman stares concerned “S-sir are you okay?” well, obviously not, but anyways he could only nod to ease her concern. “Mnn.” Still slightly shaking, he raises his head and hands the lady the payment. As soon as the items were paid and placed in the bag he immediately left, ignoring the change.
As fast as his weak body could muster, he went back to his lover. While approaching him, me glares daggers at him, cursing him for almost having him caught back at the souvenir shop.
Though Toyomitsu was a little ignorant of this.
Once he finally arrived under the beach umbrella, he was about to throw the items on Toyomitsu; however his lover was quick to act and pulled him down on his lap instead now he was seated on his lover's leg, straddling it. He was about to resist but Toyomitsu grinds his knee on Takagi’s sensitive crotch, this immediately weakens Takagi as he moans from the stimulation. “Hng, mnn!”
Toyomitsu’s grin becomes wider as he watches his lover's desperation.``Oh, if only you knew how sweet you sound right now, so sexy.” As he continues to grind his knee between Takagi’s legs he gently pats his lover's head, comforting his lover's pleasure filled brain.
He could see the tears prickling at the corners of Takagi’s eyes, his hands grip tight on Toyomitsu. “Shh don’t worry, with this umbrella and my size, no ones gonna see you, darling. So come on, cum hard for me~” With one last grind Takagi came undone, the tightness of the chastity cage and friction becoming too much. “Mnn hngg!”
Toyomitsu sighs fulfillingly, pleased by his lover's current state. As Takagi was trying to catch his breath all the toys and restrictions on him were removed carefully. Once those were off, Toyomitsu held Takagi close, showering him with kisses and gentle caresses.

Ramblings about BNHA chap 379
We’ve reached chap 379…
…and, as expected, we went back to why Lady Nagant decided to join the battle. Only… the reason isn’t really convincing.
Why? Because it turns out Lady Nagant, by going there as wounded as she is, is risking her life because Midoriya and Hawks gave her back the hope she had as a teenager and her reason for being. When? When they fought as no other meeting is mentioned.
So, okay, the idea is that in chap 316 she had a complete and full change of heart. She didn’t just change idea about killing Midoriya (which caused her to explode due to the failure clause of her contract with AFO) and gave him and Hawks a hint thinking she was about to die, no, now she’s willing to lay down her life for Midoriya, even though she believed a world ruled by AFO would be a helluva lot more transparent.
It’s not impossible… but again it feels rushed.
She’s an adult, she knew what AFO would do to the world if allowed to take control of it and agreed with him, she also knows Midoriya can’t change the world on his own as, powerful and well meaning he may be, but he’s just a teen.
It made sense she would feel for him enough sympathy she wouldn’t want to kill him and that would want to help him, when she believed she might die and therefore she had nothing to lose, but this asks from her something more, this asks from her either faith in Midoriya magically changing the hero society for the better, or deciding that who cares if hero society sucks, he’s so special she would protect him.
It’s a leap she could do very easily but we needed to see her preparing to do that leap.
Of course, Lady Nagant being willing to lay down her life for Midoriya serves to a HUGE purpose. Lady Nagant is a murderer, we know she killed people for the Hero Commission, so her previous explosion and her being willing to die to save Midoriya are the narrative way to have her pay a tribute that actually redeem her.
Like how Gentle had to stop a giant jailbreak on his own, only the request placed to Lady Nagant is bigger because her sins are way too heavy and who knows, maybe she’ll ultimately get a ‘death equal redemption’ path because it’s easier to deal with her this way.
So yeah, I get what the story is trying to do but… I think it needed to be built up a little more… like Rock Lock, who’s conveniently there and conveniently hear her out, suddenly deciding to believe if she says she want to help Midoriya, then she’s worth being trusted.
It’s not impossible, but it’s just sudden.
The hero society was, not too long ago, willing to consider a blackmailed teen a Villain but now is making a 180° turn without the slightest effort. I mean, the nameless doctor (which parallel the nameless policeman of the previous chapter) makes clear she’s just an escape convict not to be trusted, only to have Rock Lock acting like Tsukauchi did in the previous chapter and say, no, let’s trust her.
Because, all of sudden we changed our mind setting and are willing to trust Villains.
This bit could have been overcome easily with Rock Lock just saying he knew Lady Nagant previously, was friend with her and never believed she was a bad person. That he was putting his faith in her because he had personal reasons to do so. Instead he believes her because her heart (which he can’t see) told her to help Midoriya.
So yeah, I love the idea of Lady Nagant helping, I love the idea of Rock Lock trusting her… but I don’t really love how those ideas are executed.
Anyway Lady Nagant shoots and this single act causes blood to spray out of every part of her (when it safely remained inside as she walked up till there)… which is normally not how human bodies work when wounds get opened again but whatever, it’s visually cool and we can stretch thing and claim it’s again AFO’s curse/ failure clause working against her.
Lady Nagant, her eyes shining again because she’s now full of hope, shoots Shigaraki’s other hand away.
Somewhere inside Shigaraki AFO loses his cool as blood starts seeping out of his chest and he rants against Lady Nagant in a way I don’t remember seeing him do before.
I mean, he didn’t mind when Lady Nagant broke the contract with him, he just had a laugh at how he knew the heart was fickle but there was a failure clause to punish her, and wasn’t even surprised when she gave away the location of her future meeting so it feels weird he would be so surprised when he previously ANTICIPATED she would betray him.
Because he had ALREADY manipulated her emotions and history and didn’t work and he anticipated it, so why he’s now surprised? He’s not a reader who’d like to know which were the thoughts that lead Lady Nagant to go that far, nor Lady Nagant shooting his/Shigaraki’s hands away put him in such an insurmountable pinch he should be panicking (after all he can regrow them...).
I mean, Endeavor forced him to use the rejuvenation shot and he was all okay even if he claimed this would doom him to vanish. He wasn’t even in a hurry as he said so.
So again, it’s a case in which idea and execution clash.
It’s good to see AFO panicking, his plans failing but… normally this wouldn’t be the reaction we would get from him? I mean, not everything is going as he wanted, yes, but now he has the Sad Man Parade in place and Touya keeping Endeavor busy, he even admitted the wind was blowing in his way in chap 376 and while he seems to be in a hurry NOW to reach Shigaraki… before he wasn’t and spent time chatting with Endeavor and Hawks. And when Hawks had broken his mask he was only a little upset with the pesky gnats bothering him. And now he has a crisis?
And we continue with Shigaraki.
I love, love, love how he figured that AFO groomed him… but when exactly he realized?
He says AFO used All Might and Shimura… but AFO actually used the Shimura card against All Might (he told All Might he was fighting Shimura’s grandson), not really on him. AFO mentioned Shimura while talking with Shigaraki only at the end of the Paranormal Liberation War Arc, when she appeared in a place defined ‘inside OFA’ in chap 287 while AFO was trying to take control of Shigaraki’s body. It’s true, one of her hands was gifted to Shigaraki, but he had no idea about it and, unless that hand has a special power, it makes no difference if it’s Shimura Nana’s hand or another family member or whatever. Shigaraki doesn’t know it’s hers, after all.
So we kind of have a problem here.
Is this meant to make us realize Shigaraki figured out in chap 287, when his love for his master disappeared as he realized the latter was trying to take control of his body? Maybe.
I mean, in chap 270 he willingly went to AFO, and in chap 277, when he got a grasp AFO’s will was inside him, he claimed he was grateful to him for raising him, and his ‘disagreement’ with him merely stemmed by how he wanted to be better than him and in control of his own body.
And it’s not a bad idea even if it feels more like a last minute plan because it doesn’t take long for AFO to take control of Shigaraki’s body after it. Shigaraki manages to fight a little against the heroes before being hit by Negire and Shouto and rescued by Machia. He supposedly remains mostly unconscious, manages to wake up just in time to say ‘Machia destroy’, to faint again and, when he starts acting again because Spinner placed Shimura’s hand on his face, he’s actually AFO.
So it’s possible while he was fighting and while he was partially unconscious he saved his origin but… I don’t know. A flashback we’ll see in a moment might even suggest it actually happened even later on, when they were actually attacking Tartarus and Shigaraki demanded again control of his body and told AFO he won’t be his stinking pawn (chap 297).
I don’t know. Whatever. Let’s assume that’s how it worked. And then we’re told that he started reclaiming himself from inside out, helping his origin to follow that path, which symbolically means for young Tenko to crawl out of all the hands holding him prisoner? But if it was Shigaraki who hid Tenko, then the hands were Shigaraki? Then couldn’t he have just released him? Whatever.
AFO now in full panic mode demands from Kurogiri to warp him to AFO because he’s not in control of Shigaraki’s body (all this could have been avoided if this were to be instruction he passed to Kurogiri) but now Kurogiri is acting like a broken program (note that when he talked to Himiko he was just fine).
I hope this is because the Kurogiri who views himself as Shigaraki’s protector is fighting the Kurogiri who views himself as AFO’s pawn. It seems Shirakumo is also involved in the mix as we can see his face and him saying ‘friend’.
Meanwhile Shigaraki claims he has no need for OFA (why? It’s a rather useful and strong quirk after all…) and taunt AFO about how he doesn’t have everything under control.
As he says so we see some flashback, one of them is about Spinner, who tried so hard to reach Kurogiri so as to save Shigaraki. The other is about chap 344, basically when the Final War arc started and we saw Shigaraki bending down to touch the dark fluid at his feet, and then call Dabi as the latter was launching himself at Endeavor. I always wondered about that gesture because, after touching that dark fluid Shigaraki’s eyes are wide open as if in surprise. The dark fluid seems to be the one AFO used to transport them all there, so it’s weird Shigaraki would touch it, but it could also be it was a bit of fluid Kurogiri managed to get there? Who knows?
Going on Shigaraki points out to how his heart isn’t wavering (differently from Lady Nagant who’s now on the ground… which I guess it’s a reference to how she wanted to be a hero, got tainted by the Hero Commission, murdered its president, got in jail, joined forces with AFO, then switched to Midoriya…). Shigaraki makes an important point about how everything he witnessed in the world led to the existence of the house in which he was abused. In short to him SOCIETY IS THE DIRECT CAUSE WHY HE WAS ABUSED.
Therefore he claims that as both Shigaraki and Tenko his only hope is to destroy everything that stemmed from that house and how this will be the only thing that would save him. Now though, he isn’t talking anymore to AFO but to ‘the hero’ aka Midoriya.
But what it means to destroy everything that ‘stemmed from that house’? It’s no more society, society created the house, it didn’t come out of it. It’s Shigaraki who came out of it, Shigaraki and nothing else as the house got destroyed and couldn’t give life to anything else. Or is he referring to the pain and negative feeling that stemmed from the house and inside him?
I’m not sure.
In one case he’s suicidal, in the other he’s asking to be saved by all the negative feelings he carries inside.
Either way, since he’s talking to Midoriya, he’s asking him to either kill him or ‘psychologically save him’ while his body is metaphorically coming out from AFO. And since along him come dozens of hands I guess that yes, the hands that were holding Tenko down were, metaphorically, his own, not AFO.
Meanwhile Midoriya tosses him out of U.A. as Shigaraki’s hands reform because, now that he got his quirks back, Midoriya can’t fight him there.
Someone is likely making a video of this. If I don’t remember wrong students from U.A. were documenting the battle so I guess this is it.
Midoriya claims that he can’t let Shigaraki do that… so I take he might have assumed, when Shigaraki said he would be saved by the destruction of everything stemming from that house, that Shigaraki wanted to destroy everything. Which, indeed, was Shigaraki’s previous plan.
I just wish he hadn’t chosen such an odd way to say what he wanted to do.
I mean, if he had said he wanted to destroy everything that created that house, it would have fit more with the idea of wanting to destroy everything… but he said he wanted the destruction of everything that STEMMED from the house so I’m a bit lost.
However Midoriya says an important thing, which is he also can’t pretend he didn’t see Shigaraki crying. It’s a good thing, he looks more human like as he says so than he did during the battle, and more willing to do some saving… but I’m not sure what he plans to do.
He brought Shigaraki on the ground, they’re on a devastated city, which is probably deserted, but if this time Shigaraki touches ground he can spread the decay so he might reach a place that’s not deserted. And even discounting his quirk… how Midoriya is going to work out stopping Shigaraki without discounting the crying child inside him?
Can he manage to form a connection through talking, and, more importantly, listening, which is what, in a way, Shigaraki suggested when he asked him if he wanted to have another chat at the mall, even though he denied the possibility a second after, claiming he was Midoriya’s villain.
But, of course, if Midoriya were to be capable to have them set aside the whole heroes and villains thing, they could have a chat, and fill the gap that makes them heroes and villains with understanding for the respective positions.
Though generally in Shonen they prefer to go with a fight than with a chat. But maybe we can have both? We’ll see in the next chapter probably, even though I hope it’ll go back to Touya and Enji… which wouldn’t be bad as I guess Horikoshi will want to fix Midoriya and Shigaraki’s situation for last, so he needs to solve the one of Touya and the one of Himiko first.
But whatever, we’ll see.

Minors kindly don't interact!
_________________
From the outside, mostly during work hours, the two occasionally clash with each other. Though this is mostly because of Ken’s snarky remarks. To most people, these two look like they have nothing in relation other than work colleagues and righteous heroes, but behind closed doors where the lingering judgment of others are not present, is where their true natures lie.
Tonight Taishiro had to stay a little later than usual, to his dismay there was still some paperwork he had to look over so he was called back to the office. His eyes scan through the amounts of documents before him, but if he was honest he was almost getting impatient to finish his work quickly.
But his mind is then at peace once he remembers that his beloved is back at home waiting for him patiently. He sighs to relieve his frustration and goes back to his responsibilities.
The rattling of keys can be heard and a pair of huge feet enter the apartment. Once he entered, the apartment seemed empty and was filled with pure silence, but with excitement and joy the jolly hero entered their shared bedroom. “Hi sweets! I hope I didn't make you worry too much, just had some things to take care of back in the office!”
“Hhmf!”
Right before Taishiro's eyes laid Ken tied bound on the bed, his legs forcefully spread by the red ropes and his arms bound together by more red rope.
The vulnerable hero was currently being blindfolded and over-stimulated by a dildo machine, penetrating his hole repeatedly for the last 2 hours. His mouth was gagged with tape, making him unable to express those snarky remarks that he always has.
Fortunately, since he has been fucked sensless by that machine for a long time, all Ken could utter are desperate whimpers and helpless gagging sounds—trying to get pity from his huge lover.
“Awee, look at you! So helpless and ready for me!” The bed dipped deep as Taishiro sat at the edge of their bed, one his gloved hands pats the head of Ken, comforting his overstimulated lover. Ken tried speaking but the tape could only muffle his words to pathetic noises. With what little voice he had left, he tried sounding tough and angry, however this only deemed a useless attempt when the dildo hit his weak spot, he then let out a moan instead.
Taishiro continues to pat Ken’s head and shushes him to calm down his protest. “I know I know, I was out for long, but hey look at you! Being a truper, handling the dildo so well, and oh look at that, you trembling baby? Hmm?” With his pointer finger, he flicks his lover's erection which got him a very satisfying reaction, Ken’s legs trembled as they tried to close shut however the ropes stopped him.
By now, Ken was desperate for Taishiro to release him and to get that damned machine off him!
“Mmhg!” Ken pleads with his voice, wet patches can be seen from his blindfold. “Alright alright, I’ll release you! But only after you had oneee last orgasm, yeah?” Ken could hear Taishiro walk towards the dildo machine, this alarmed Ken as he started flailing his hands and feet.
“Hnnmg!!” Just then, the gluttonous hero speeds up the dildo machine to a more rapid speed compared to the slow pacing before. Ken’s back arches, his legs pulled on the red ropes, resisting the overpowering pleasure, however since Taishiro was there, he used his exceptional strength to ensure his lover's legs stayed wide and open for him to see.
The fat hero sadistically watches as his lover get tortured with immense pleasure, he would see the way Ken’s dick twitches and throb, precum pouring out him. Though Ken isn't the only one suffering, Taishiro has his own big problem below his belt to take care of after his beloved finishes.
Taishiro can tell his beloved was almost nearing his climax so he carefully tears off the tape on Ken’s mouth, immediately his lover curses at him “You goddamn–ah! S-sadist, i’ll fuckin–hng kill you– s-shit!” After saying so, his stomach heats up as his release arrives, he moans out in pure ecstasy– biting his lip trying to suppress his delicious noises. Ropes of cum violently release out of him as he strongly arches in pleasure, stripes of salives stickle down at the corner of his mouth. Taishiro is amazed with what he sees, completely mesmerized with the naughty scene in front of him.
He quickly turned the machine off while the smaller hero before him was catching his breath. Taishiro took the restraints off his lover's body, as he took off the blindfold last, he kissed the head of Ken while cuddling him close.
Soft shushes and caresses can be felt on the man's body, his mind too fogged up with pleasure to scold his perverted lover. “That's it, there there baby it's done, you did so good taking it for me. You deserve a reward, i'll carry you to a warm bath, how ‘bout that? ”
In  a daze, though only a little conscious about his surroundings, he looks at his lover's very noticeable erection, his eyes questioning if his lover what's him to take care of it, Taishiro could only laugh heartily “Don't worry ‘bout me sweets, I’ll take care of that myself later. For now, let's get you cleaned up.” Taishiro then effortlessly carried his fucked out lover to a relaxing bath.

Ramblings about BNHA chap 370/371
So… chap 370/371 touches some very important points, albeit a bit too late in the story.
I mean, the idea heteromorphs were discriminated was made very clear in chap 220 with the bit about the creature rejection clan… but, to be honest, the story never dig a lot into it.
We clearly had heteromorphs in U.A. High school or among the heroes, and beyond Shoji being called 'octopus’ by Mineta, Spinner being called 'lizard’ by Touya, and Shouto calling Tsuragamae ‘mutt’, Mineta, Touya and Shouto being city boys who didn’t realize it was wrong, we had to wait for chap 310 to see an heteromorph being unfairly and horribly attacked due to how she looked… but since the world is in chaos the hate might feel more like people being in panic and lashing out randomly than something systemic.
Chap 370 all of sudden brings many voices on the whole issue. So let’s look at them all.
We start with the people hating heteromorphs. They appear in a flashback and make clear their motive for their hate is hollow (their accusation is that heteromorph blood is dirty and will defile and turn filthy the land which really, is dumb) and that they’ll never accept them no matter how much society will progress. It’s a stance that clearly harms heteromorphs and one that’s not open to changes. One that has no reason to be and that can’t even be excused with ‘oh but people are scared and jumping at each shadow so they aren’t thinking straight’ because this is a flashback placed PRIOR to the chaos that followed ‘Paranormal Liberation War Arc’. Those people are just awful while in their right mind.
We move then to the ones who’re defending Central Hospital where Kurogiri/Shirakumo is held captive.
Skipping Present Mic, who’s there also because very invested in holding Kurogiri/Shirakumo there (he calls Kurogiri ‘Shirakumo’ and likely, despite Kurogiri being by now the prevalent identity of that body, he sees it as Shirakumo) we’ve two AU High students, Koda and Shoji, who’re Heteromorph, the hero Rock Lock, who’s a person of colour, and among the police, Gori, who’s another Heteromorph.
In addition to them so as to make a total of 200 defenders there are some of the remaining heroes and police squads.
Opposing to them is Spinner, a member of the League of Villains, Lieutenant of the PLF and Heteromorph, a small army of PLF dregs (and this likely needs to be read as ‘ex-members of the Meta Liberation Army’) and ‘ordinary citizens who sympathize with their cause’ for a total of 15000 people.
What’s their cause?
Well, Spinner’s cause is to help Shigaraki by freeing Kurogiri, the MLA’s cause was to grant free use to everyone of their meta abilities tying everyone’s rank in life with the strength of one’s meta ability… but the sympathizers and that specific group of MLA remnants are likely there for Heteromorphs’ rights. In fact a Heteromorph who likely was an adviser in what was Spinner’s regiment gives a speech that encourages Heteromorphs to rage remembering the mistreatments they suffered.
Why this is important?
Because fundamentally on the Villain side we’ve Heteromorphs fighting for their own rights and the ones opposing to them are Heteromorphs as well (or, in Rock Lock case a person who belong to an equally discriminate group).
In theory we might have assumed that, since they were all in the same boat (Heteromorphs who’re mistreated), heroes and police would have had a hard time opposing to the Villains when they’re screaming about the mistreatment Heteromorphs received.
But no, things are never so simple.
Now, an obligatory premise.
This is a story aimed at a young audience so of course it’s unlikely it’ll go and support the idea people should go and riot in the streets, beating/murdering whoever would oppose to them.
It’s a given the story would support who would peacefully work for Heteromorphs’ rights because they surely can’t encourage youths to rise in arms against the government. However… let’s dig a bit in how each group is represented.
For now I’ll skip Gori as he really has a too small of a role (he just point out they’ll have no back up and his men need to push back with their taser shields) and we know next to nothing about him.
I’ll focus a bit on Rock Lock. Rock Lock doesn’t seem to get why the Heteromorphs are protesting. For him they’re just punks, a random mob of rioters, his comment making furious the Heteromorphs who feel dismissed and counters ‘folks with human faces just don’t get it’.
We don’t really know if in BNHA black people are still discriminated in Japan and anyway Lock Rock, being a hero, has reached a position of privilege but let’s assume he started as a discriminated person and still remembers his past. Why would he dismiss Heteromorph discrimination?
Yes, it’s possible he would do it because, having escaped his own, his copying mechanism for dealing with his past is just pretending discrimination never existed. But it can also be that Rock Lock was chosen because Horikoshi wanted to do something different.
Often people from two different discriminated groups don’t empathize with each other. First of all because discrimination is an ugly beast that takes away all your own resources. You’re put through so much misery you might have a hard time realizing someone else is also in your same misery although for a different reason.
So Rock Lock might have ‘missed’ how the Heteromorphs were discriminated because he was busy dealing with how his group was.
As for the Heteromorphs they seem to see Rock Lock, despite the colour of his skin, as part of the group that abuses them. To them he’s just ‘a guy with human face’ and guys with human faces are their oppressors. It matters little to them he’s a guy with human face who might belong to a group that’s discriminated by other guys with human faces since to them he would be on their same page in discriminating them.
Now, story wise, I doubt Rock Lock is meant to be portrayed as racist, more likely he’s a city boy and therefore ignorant regarding to the Heteromorph suffering outside of the city. But likely this doesn’t help his cause, because he’s also a hero and the Heteromorphs see that, instead than saving them, an oppressed group, he’s siding with the oppressors, ignoring their complains.
Rock Lock’s expression when he’s told he doesn’t get it is interesting, I wonder if the idea is that he’s finally meant to do the connection between the discrimination of his own group and the discrimination suffered by Heteromorphs… but well, we’ll see.
Next we move to Koda. The flashbacks told us Koda is a city boy so he didn’t experience harsh discrimination and, therefore, doesn’t understand why the Heteromorphs are acting such way. What’s more he’s likely influenced by Shoji’s way to answer discrimination so he doesn’t understand why Heteromorphs aren’t just following Shoji’s example.
So let’s move to Shoji.
Shoji decided to cope with discrimination by persuading people Heteromorphs are good people who don’t deserve being discriminated. He accepts being called ‘octopus’, he accepts people shouldn’t tiptoe around the issue for his sake, he covers his face and his scars so that people won’t think he’s a Heteromorph who’s out for revenge. In short he sacrifices his own comfort to reassure the human faced people and make them comfortable.
Did it bother him to be called ‘octopus’?
Maybe, but he rationalized it was natural and he didn’t said it out loud so Mineta won’t feel bad and, as a result, Mineta wouldn’t even realize he has crossed a boundary and might have continued doing so.
Did it bother him to cover his face? Maybe but he didn’t want to pass for vengeful so he hid himself.
Now… an important part in being a hero is being reassuring. It’s something the boys were taught when they were taking the exam for their provisional license [Chap 109], they might have to help people who’s panicking and in pain and they can’t scare them further.
Guys like Endeavour who have the highest number of solved cases still get little love because they don’t feel reassuring so if Shoji wants to be a hero it’s not wrong he chooses to sacrifice himself for the others. It’s part of his line of work. And if he wants to do it because he thinks that’s the best way to cope with the issue of discrimination… it’s his own choice.
But, apart from doing as he does, he’s offering no other viable option. He claims those who hurt them weren’t justified and that they should use their rage to change the world but, apart from countering discrimination with being nice, at the moment he didn’t offer a plan, not even founding a political party to change laws or creating associations that can support heteromorphs psychologically or creating safe spaces for them.
He’s just trying to integrate with the society that rejects them by behaving in a way that might feel more appealing so that people wouldn’t feel prone to discriminate him.
Basically, unless Shoji will develop further his plans, what he’s telling people to do is to suffer in silence, conform and make themselves useful.
The whole talk about the hospital is a prime example to this.
Shoji points out how the heroes evacuated the hospital in Jaku before attacking. He passes it as a niceness done by the heroes, when it’s actually part of their job as they’re paid to save people and the Hero Commission doesn’t want the heroes to look bad in fear of backlash.
In fact the heroes suffer a huge blow due to Dabi’s broadcast attacking Endeavour and Hawks’ reputation. Hawks had to defend himself for having murdered a villain. Not that much but he still had to give explanations. And the human losses which were caused by the villains’ answer to the heroes’ attack were blamed on the heroes as well.
How worse it would have been if the heroes had just attacked the hospital that was filled with not villain people without caring for their safety?
This is not a judgment on the heroes; some of them are genuinely nice people who would have wanted to save the patients at the hospital regardless, but just a matter of facts observations.
The heroes’ job required them to attack the hospital AFTER evacuating it regardless of the heroes’ feelings of them caring for those people or not. Yet, often in the story, people mix up what’s required from the Pro Heroes due to their job with a disinterested act of heroism, talking as if they were one and the same.
Is the situation with Jaku hospital comparable with the one of Central hospital?
Not really.
The people attacking it aren’t Pro Heroes, meaning it’s not their job to save the people in the hospital. What’s more, the hospital is likely filled with human faced people and the Heteromorphs have made clear they view them as ‘the enemy’.
Now, in war, no matter what, you shouldn’t attack a hospital. Those people though, aren’t soldiers. War rules don’t apply.
So Shoji coming at them saying they should care about saving the people at the hospital feels out of place because they have no reason to. It’s not their job and, anyway, they see most of those people as people who made their life a living hell so they’re likely not prone to care if they get hurt… never mentioning it was actually the police and the heroes’ duty to protect the people at Central Hospital, same as Jaku Hospital.
Ironically Shoji seems the mirror image of Toga.
Where Toga was told to hide her own nature and conform and ended up breaking down because she just couldn’t suppress herself any longer, Shoji decided to do it on his own… and for him it might work because he has hope, a goal, the means to become a hero and eventually he also moved in an environment that’s less hostile and found friends who supported him… but for many others it’ll feel like it felt for Toga, who just couldn’t handle it any longer, or Spinner, who ended up feeling empty inside.
So yeah, it’s great Shoji can do it, but not everyone can and, by assuming if he did something everyone can, he’s actually being unfair to the others.
But now let’s move a bit on how it’s represented the opposing side.
Although the heroes see the villains as well… the villains, there’s something notable in them.
Spinner, who in this arc should be the mirror image of Shoji, is actually deprived of his own will. While Shoji talks about how what Spinner is doing will affect negatively the heteromorphy cause Spinner is actually there to help a not heteromorphy person, Shigaraki… and he’s not even fully aware of what’s going on around him, as what AFO did to him kind of damaged his cognitive abilities and he can’t fully think, just fight.
In the same way, the ‘ordinary citizens who sympathize with their cause’ are, in a way, manipulated by AFO as they’re there thinking Spinner is fighting for their own cause when Spinner  is not even fully aware of what he’s doing and there to help Shigaraki (who, don’t take me wrong, Spinner thinks will help their cause) and AFO is clearly using their rage to oppose to the numerically inferior heroes and police.
So, although they’re more aware of what’s going on, in a way they too are manipulated by AFO.
Lastly the small army of PLF dregs to whom likely belong the Heteromorph who, with his talks, is moving the masses. As said before they’re likely ‘ex-members of the Meta Liberation Army’… which is kind of troublesome as the MLA wasn’t for the abolition of discrimination but merely wanted to turn the system over so that they would be the ones ruling it.
Geten, in his fight with Dabi, made clear the goal of the MLA was to establish a new order in which the ones with superior Meta abilities would rule. This would mean that, Spinner (should he give up to the extra quirks AFO gave him) and any other heteromorph who has a weak quirk would see no real improvement in their lives… even if the spokesperson from the PLF seems to echo Geten’s words, ‘Spinner will lead them to PROMINENCE in society’, implying they don’t just want equality, they want to stand on the top.
This guy seems to be the only one who’s, at least, not manipulated by AFO (if he’s manipulated by Re-Destro, or he has a strong quirk so he’s manipulating heteromorphs into aiding them when he knows there will be no reward for them this is up to speculation).
He too bears a scar (and even hid his face) so it might be he too was a victim. What’s notable though is that he addresses notable points in his speech.
He attacks the quirk counselling and the quirk education and points out to two episodes that highlight the discrimination to whom Heteromorphs were subjected, the 6/6 incident and the great Jeda purge, as well as how they were persecuted because they didn’t fit the mould for a silly reason, they gave others the creeps.
He points out how society is trying to sweep the past under the rug and present itself with a better image but discrimination is still alive out of the city.
And in all this he makes a beautiful point, how light never shone upon them so they have to search for their own light, light being the metaphor for heroes.
And here comes the problem.
As said before Shoji says there should be a better way than using violence, his plan being that if he’ll be the coolest hero this might change things for future generations. But the spokesperson from the PLF’s words are correct. Shoji’s dream seems naïve and he doesn’t really have a counter plan that would help people in the present. Shoji is not their hero; he’s countering their violence with violence when that would have been the best moment to stall things in an attempt to search for a compromise.
That was the time to start talking.
Saying ‘we were all persecuted but what you’re doing is wrong’ doesn’t answer to the question ‘then what we can do RIGHT NOW to make the situation better FOR US RIGHT NOW?’
The heteromorphs clearly believe if they win things will change for them because they’ll impose their own rules, their own will. They’ll basically turn tables like the MLA wanted to do. Sure, they can lose and things can get worse… but if they’re there risking their lives fighting heroes and police I’ll say it’s a sign they believe things are already terrible enough.
Very few people are willing to risk their lives unless they’ve big reasons moving them. We’ve not one or 2 but 15.000 people willing to fight, people who’re likely from outsides the cities and who were horribly mistreated. They don’t want a fix for children or grandchildren when they might not live long enough to give birth to them; they want an improvement for their lives in the present.
And trying to find a compromise since heroes and police are outnumbered and the heteromorphs’ complains are right would be THE BEST way to deal with that mess. They didn’t have to give up Kurogiri but they could try to stall them with talks about changing things, after all they said against what they’re complaining, the quirk counselling and the quirk education, they could propose a fight to change them, being heteromorphy themselves they could get heard more easily.
But they’re not searching for a compromise. This is a retake of the Twice vs. Hawks battle.
When neither side will give up… somebody has to die. Heroes always assume it has to be the villains who’ll have to give up and never try to compromise, even when the villains are doing requests that make sense or that wouldn’t be terrible to satisfy.
They just want to stop them without addressing WHY the villains are fighting and if this means to kill them, so be it. But another way to stop a person that doesn’t require fighting is coming to a compromise, a truce. Hearing out a person and checking if his requests are really unreasonable before rejecting them seems to be a fatal weakness of heroes in the story.
They just assume villains have no reasons and rejects them if the villain gives them (Endeavour claims Shigaraki has no ideals but when Shigaraki gave him his own reasons he just brushes them off), don’t fully listen to the reasons given (Shouto agrees Touya might have some grievances with their family but doesn’t seem to understand Touya also has grievances toward society demanding Touya to take it out solely on the family and not on ‘innocent people’) or outright fails to understand what they’re saying (Ochako seems to miss how Curious was trying to kill Toga and how Toga wasn’t happy because she has killed Curious but because she was able to use Ochako quirk).
What’s more, they seem to fail to understand society as a whole can hurt and become a ‘villain’ for some people.
Heroes might understand AFO is using a lot of people, that he’s possessing Shigaraki and Spinner, that all the people who’re now assaulting the hospital are actually victims of manipulation… but I’m not sure if they can understand there’s more to them than just being victims of the big bad.
AFO is an amazing enemy because he used the system that hurt so many people at his own advantage to gain allies, acolytes, underlings by presenting to them as a hero, a savoir when heroes were unable to do so.
AFO is a terrible person and defeating him might feel like saving even villains from him as he’s a threat to them because he’s using them without a care. Where Shigaraki cared for his fellow LOV members, AFO made clear his ‘friends’ are just disposable pawns he uses in his personal, twisted game.
However if all the saving the heroes are going to do is to kill off AFO because he’s manipulating everyone… well, this won’t really fear like saving the day because it won’t account on what society did to all those people.
So yeah, maybe depriving Spinner of his will and having all those people being manipulated into believing that is a fight for their cause (when it’s actually a fight for AFO’s cause as he plans to stand atop of everyone equally) is meant to point out how they’re victims of AFO and how, by removing AFO, they would be saved… but, at least to me, it’ll feel hollow if it doesn’t address their other problems.
We’ll see though if the heroes will manage to figure out sometimes the villain isn’t a guy who’s beating another guy but a society that’s driving you miserable with its unfair rules and expectations that move a big part of its people.
