I have no idea how Sylvia Mercedes manages to consistently write such engaging, exciting books and on such a fast timeframe! Tears of dust is book 5 in the venatrix chronicles - one of my favorite series and actually up there with Nevernight in terms of thrilling, badass, dark fiction/gothic fantasy ❤ We're deep in the thick of the overall plot and there's a lot of reveals and action in this book (being careful to avoid spoilers) 🙈 I've been loving that the story has been showing more and more of the Crimson Devils and the "evil" characters because they are so intriguing and exciting to read about 😈 This book has a lot more action than romance compared to other books in the series but it fits perfectly and it takes nothing away from the plot, characters or overall enjoyment of the book 😍 Ayleth and Laranta are very reminiscent of Mia Corvere and her shadows (again being careful to avoid spoilers for that series 😆) relationship wise and while Ayleth is brash and badass like Mia they're on very different levels. Mia is a violent, stabby little bitch (that's why we love her 😂) and Ayleth is a calmer more considered/mellow character. Both women at equally dark and complex and wonderful but if you love Nevernight I have a strong feeling you will adore this series 🔥 Anyway. I'm obsessed. I love this series. I love these characters. I love this world. I love where the story is going. YESSSS THIS DAMN SERIES JUST KILLS ME 😍 Starting my New Year book posts with one of my absolute favorite series! Ayleth is so beautifully flawed and perfect and I just wish I could be her hunt sister 🙈 she is the definition of a strong woman. She overcomes. She lives, she struggles, she makes mistakes but she is still strong, smart and powerful and PERFECT 🙌 I also love seeing more of Terryn's emotions and internal struggles with this book. He is still very much the stubborn, consummate professional but it's really nice to see little embers of that slow burn Romance. 🔥 Paths of Malice finally had a much stronger focus on Dread Odille and her red devil witch lieutenants, their history and stories which I've been waiting for since the first book 🙈 No spoilers but this book is just as exciting, Dark, twisted, devilish and magically thriller-y ❤ Three out of three books of this series being brilliant? I am IN LOVE 😍 with this series! It is so perfectly dark but adventurous but sassy and somehow still manages to have fun, relateable and often snarky characters 🙈 Ayleth is a character I'd want to be if I had to choose to be someone fictional 😆 she is strong, stubborn, intelligent and enterprising all whilst seeming very real. I feel like Ayleth is more of a friend than a book character and I'm loving watching her grow ❤ Ayleths relationship with Laranta is my dream and is reminiscent of a slightly more supportive version of Mr Kindly and Mia from Nevernight 🤣 Terryn and his shade are SUPER intriguing and I can't wait to learn more (currently reading the third book! SQUEEE) Sylvia has ended up becoming one of my favorite authors thanks to my obsession with this series. This series and the one I just posted about "Kingdom of Runes" are the two that I jump for joy when the next book is released and are my current faves 🙌 The Venatrix Chronicles is perfect for those who love Nevernight, Grishaverse and A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy. Yet another deliciously dark fantasy for my twisted little soul 🙈 I may dress bright but I need my books to have a bit of bite 😈 Daughter of Shades DEFINITELY delivered 💪 Ayleth lives side by side with her shade (think Mr Kindly OR Eclipse from Nevernight).
