I started to reread this book called Psychic spellcraft by Shawn Robbins and Leena Greenway. This i found interesting. She's talking about rephrasing your questions for an intuitive answer, but i may use this method for pendulums and tarot, too. I thought it might be helpfull so heres what she said in summary.

Using the phrase, "should i?" Leaves the easy answer of "why not?" Ie "should i get this job" whereas if you phrase it like "will this job make me happy" "is this person honest" "will they make me happy" etc

you're less likely to be lead down the wrong path, and you'll be able to stay on target easier with what you need or want.

The book was first published in 1996 but this edition was published on May 5th 2022. Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own. I have heard many good things about the book and I couldn't pass reading it when I had the opportunity. I really liked it. It is a more traditional fantasy and I really liked the author's writing and the storyline. It also had a really good plot twist. I found the main character really interesting and I enjoyed reading his story. I loved the world and I am eager to learn more about it in the next book. « Rupture, sirop d’érable et joyeux Noël ! », ma romcom de Noël

Mon dernier livre en format papier est sorti il y a désormais plus d’un an. Et je travaille actuellement sur deux projets, un nouvel essai et un album jeunesse. Mais j’ai également expérimenté tout récemment quelque chose de nouveau pour moi : publier une fiction, et sur une plateforme de streaming.

La fiction en question, je l’ai écrite l'an dernier, alors que j’avais envie de m’essayer à un nouveau genre littéraire. J’ai beaucoup de tendresse pour les téléfilms un peu nuls de Noël où tout se finit toujours bien et qui amènent un peu de légèreté à nos vies, et j’avais aussi très envie d’ancrer une histoire à Calgary, où nous avons vécu il y a 9 ans.

J’avais les éléments de base : une romance feel good qui se situe à la période de Noël, l’Ouest Canadien, et un personnage principal féminin badass. Je voulais aussi que mon histoire soit féministe et inclusive. Ça a donné l’histoire de Junon, Française proche de la cinquantaine qui quitte son boulot et son mari toxique pour partir s’installer à 8 000 km de chez elle.

J’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à écrire ce récit, mais mes travers étant ce qu’ils sont, je suis quelqu’un de très synthétique qui ne se perd pas dans des longueurs à n’en plus finir. Mon histoire était donc assez courte, trop courte pour prétendre s’appeler un roman. Mais trop longue pour être une nouvelle !

J’ai finalement trouvé chaussure à mon pied pour ce format singulier : Vivlio Stories, une application de lecture en streaming. Pour 3,99 euros par mois, les abonnés lisent sur leur tablette, liseuse ou téléphone des histoires en tout genre, sous forme de séries découpées en chapitres. Comme s’ils regardaient une série, qu’elle soit romantique, feel-good ou à suspense, mais à l’écrit.

There will be a greek book called the Threads that bind and the story is quite interesting so far. About a girl with the power of the fates, greek mythology, modern noir setting in Greece.

Now i really do hope this book succeeds a lot like any Greek author who wants to make it big globally. Also the story is what we have been saying on this blog. A greek story mixing Greek mythology and modern without exploiting it, but trying to question the philosophy behind the myths of our culture, in her story specifically how much choice a person has in their lifes.

Looks promising! And honestly I love that she writes under her real Greek surname without making it short English-like, like many Greek celebrities abroad, even though the book is written originally in English and will be first published in USA and UK (she has studied the English language and literature) and will then be translated and published in Greece! Also love the Fates theme. But I really hope she doesn’t fall on the traps foreign writers fall on, in order to attract a young foreign audience… this worries me a little.

Showing yourself to the world, and hoping someone else understands." Babel by R. F. Kuang I had high hopes for Babel and thankfully it didn't disappoint. This is the first book that I read from R. F. Kuang and I loved her writing style. The book has the vibe of dark academia and grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance and the use of translation as a tool of empire. The characters of the book were done really well and I especially liked our main character Robin Swift, who has an excellent character development. The three supporting characters were really good as well and I loved the friendship dynamics between the four of them. The book takes place in our world but adding the magic of silver-working makes it unique. Finally, the research that the author has done shows in every aspect of the book. Achilles wanders the room. On either side of the empty hearth are shelves containing small, rectangular objects lined up neatly. They have symbols across them, and Achilles pulls one out. The front has a picture on it of dancing, striped mules and more symbols, bigger. It is a bound collection of these symbols, though he doesn’t have the words to describe the stiff fabric they are painted on. Why does Patroclus have so many of these things?

“It’s called a ‘book,’” comes a voice from the black glass. Achilles starts. It is the first time he has heard real language since he died. And despite the others ignoring him before, this woman smiles at him and says, “In the language of your descendants, it is ‘vivlio.’ In the language of where you are now, it’s a ‘book.’ You should try learning to read. People have written much about you. I think you’d enjoy it.”

He sighs. She wears the garb of this realm and has made up her face to be different, but he is not easily fooled by these tricks. “I recognize you, goddess. There is no need for your disguise.”

She smiles, and her hair shimmers from its yellow color to pink. “Goodness, but aren’t you just the same as last I saw you. So stiff and formal and sad. But then, I suppose almost no time at all has passed for you.”

Achilles eyes her warily. Gods do not come to Hades’ domain as far as he knows. There is no reason for the Lady Aphrodite to call on him at all.

“I’ve forgotten how much I liked the men of your time,” she says, eyeing him up and down shamelessly. “The Age of Heroes they called it after you were gone. You ended it, you know. Your war in Troy, but you, specifically, you changed it all for us.”

It was more her war than it was ever his. She started it. He simply fought in it. Had she wanted it otherwise, she could have changed it. Achilles remains silent.

“When you killed an entire army without breaking a sweat,” Aphrodite continues, “Zeus decreed that we were no longer to… mingle with humans. Too risky when our trysts produce men like you. And we did find other ways to occupy ourselves. Mortals are so ingenious, and their inventions have kept us entertained as we watch the ages go by. I’m not sure Lord Ares has ever had a dull day in his existence. But I found myself feeling nostalgic of late. I miss the old days. There was a freedom we used to have. To meddle.”

The last time she meddled, she started a war. Patroclus died in it. Achilles wants nothing to do with whatever this is. He folds his arms across his chest and remains silent. He knows he cannot affect her through the glass. He touched it earlier, and while it conveys sound and visions, he cannot change anything on the other side.

“Nothing to say? And here I would have thought you’d save your worst and sulkiest moods for dear old Apollo,” she sighs. “Very well. Let me tell you this, then: you are not in Tartarus, Swift-footed Achilles. While that delusion was entertaining, I feel I owe you that truth. I plucked you from death and brought you here. You are in a country you have never been to before called Ameriki in the tongue of your descendants. They speak a language called ‘English’ here. I suggest you learn it.”

I Wrote A Book!

I wrote two A Books!

"I'll Pontificate When I'm Dead" is a collection of stories from my time on Reddit, with some stories expanded slightly (and galling errors removed. I know other people don't care much, but I hate typos in my work so much).

It also includes four new stories you can't get any other way, because that seems to be the way you entice people to buy a thing? I am many things, but a marketing expert is not one of them.

Seven stories in four different 'categories'- straight high fantasy (I entitled that section 'going your own way', because that is also a theme in the section), the afterlife (I have written a bunch about different afterlives, which kinda caught me off guard), a silly section (do you want to know the real meaning behind "The Twelve Days of Christmas"?), and a section where I do a lot of pontificating.

Sometimes I just like to talk.

"Lightning Wolf" is a...novelette? (Too short to be a novella, too long to be a short story) about a young sorceress out on her first adventure. Things...don't quite go according to plan. And now she has to abandon her party, and civilization, to try and deal with the werewolf curse. Will she succeed? Or will the curse consume her?

Recommended reading for anyone who has ever wanted to be able to zap things with lightning.

And remember: every book I sell makes it more likely that I write more. I'm quite encouraged when things actually work.
