One of my favorite trope for Steddie is Steve hunting down Eddie when the kids join Hellfire and giving him a long list of dos and donts.
At first Eddie thinks he’s just being a prick, and worried he’s going to turn the nerds into freaks like him. Especially when he says not to mention drugs in front of Dustin.
But then he starts pulling out lists of monsters that can’t be in campaigns. And like what??? Why can’t he use demagorgons? They were gonna be in the next combat! He’s tempted to ignore the warnings, in fact he’s all set to, but something about Steve’s face when he was laying it all out haunts him. Something so deadly serious about it. So first he decides to test the waters to see if he’s full of shit.
When the session starts, he makes a throwaway comment, “you’re acting like there’s a mindflayer around the corner.”
All the kids freeze but Wheeler especially looks like he’s going to be sick. He even grabs at the bracelet around his wrist. The one he always said his best friend made him before he moved.
Eddie curses himself for even trying to test it out after that, and immediately bullshits the whole session so he can scrap any hint of demogorgans from the campaign.
After that session he drives straight to Harringtons house and demands they go over all the things he can’t include again, in detail, while he takes notes.
He doesn’t know what’s going on with these freshmen, but he knows trauma when he sees it and well he’d gotten attached to the gremlins.
When he leaves that night, he thinks Steve is looking at him with approval. Like he trusts him with their well-being now.

Steddie fic idea:
Someone recorded one or a few of Corroded Coffin's songs and put it on cassette tape. (It could be live show, but the sound would have to be really clear)
In a shuffle, the tape gets played at a party Steve goes to...and he is enamored. He ends up paying the guy who played it $5 for the tape, and the song becomes his favorite.
All Steve has of the song is the one mixed tape. Nobody he talks to knows where the song came from. The record store was no help. (He is, of course, asking all the wrong people)
Steve is also very afraid that he will overplay the tape and break it.
Out of all the Tears for Fears, Abba, Bruce Springsteen, etc out there, *this* is the song that could save him from Vecna...but he doesn't even know what it is really called or who made it.
...
How funny is it that Eddie Munson wrote that song about some hot jock that he had a crush on...

something something about rockstar eddie on tour telling everyone left and right about his sweetheart, his stevie, the light of his life, his sweet lil baby. getting more and more excited about when he's going to see his sweetheart at a concert soon.
the roadies and techs are kinda excited about it - placing bets on what kind of girl could have big bad rockstar eddie munson this starry eyed. with the way eddie is going on they are absolutely convinced that she's some tiny little slip of a girl that wears pastel pink everywhere and has never ever done anything bad in her life.
the big day arrives, everyone is excited to meet eddie's lil princess...but instead "sweet little babygirl stevie" is some big jock dude in a polo shirt and lightwash jeans who carries around equipment like it weighs nothing and who swears like a sailor when someone nearly drops an amp on his foot.

Steve knows he falls in love too easily. Nancy told him, Robin too.
But falling in love with Eddie Munson is hard.
They're supposed to be friends after Vecna. They're supposed to be friends, but Steve can't get past what Eddie did in the Upside Down; how he put himself in a position to nearly die, how Dustin got hurt. It's not fair. He knows it's not, but it doesn't make the anger go away.
Eddie's part of the group now, though, and Steve won't leave him out, no matter how angry. They're all at movie nights, at pool parties, at Hellfire, at Corroded Coffin gigs. It's just that Steve and Eddie don't speak. And Steve is okay with it. If it's what it takes to make sure that they're all hanging out together, not talking to Eddie is a small thing. He's pretty sure Eddie doesn't mind. At least, he seems as uninterested in hanging out with Steve as Steve is with him.
It doesn't need to be anything more than that, and it isn't, not until Steve goes upstairs to get more sunscreen during one of the pool parties, and walks back downstairs to find Munson waiting for him in his kitchen.
"You need something?" He asks, unable to fully hide the way he jolts with surprise.
Eddie twists the rings on his fingers, something Steve's noticed he does whenever he's nervous. "You have a problem with me, Harrington?
"No, of course not," he answers too fast.
"C'mon, man. You can barely stand to be in the same room with me."
"That's not true! We're in one together right now."
Eddie rolls his eyes so hard that it has to hurt. "Don't do that. Don't pretend like you don't know what I mean. You can't stand to be alone with me for more than thirty seconds."
Steve splutters, searching for a plausible reason.
"Is it cause--" Eddie swallows, hand going back to cup his neck. "Is it cause you heard me tell Robin that I'm gay? Back at the hospital. Is it because--" he cuts himself off.
Something in Steve's chest clenches hard, warmth swooping dangerously in his stomach. "No," Steve says, means it. "I didn't hear. I didn't-- it has nothing to do with that. It's--that's cool. Thanks for--yeah, that's cool."
Eddie's smile is a brittle little thing. "Then, what else?" Eddie pulls a chunk of hair over his mouth. "I can't think of any other reason you'd hate me so much."
"I don't." And Steve hopes it's coming off as genuine. "I promise."
He can't help remember the camaraderie, the understanding, that started to grow between them in the Upside Down. The "don't cha, big boy?" of it all. They could be friends. They should be.
They shouldn't get into it. Not right here, not right now when the kids' splashes and excited screams filter through the sliding door.
"You're a shit liar, Harrington."
"Ed--I'm not--"
"You know what? Don't bother. I'll just--" He jolts in the direction of the front door.
"Don't be stupid, Munson."
"God, I can't believe I didn't see it before. You just fucking loathe me."
"I do not. Grow up."
"Oh, yeah? Then what's your problem?"
"There isn't--"
"Stop lying!"
"You didn't fucking think!" He shouts. Loud enough that the noise outside cuts off. "You pulled that shit in the Upside Down and you almost died! Dustin got hurt!"
Eddie blinks his big brown eyes in stunned surprise.
"I told you, I said, 'dont try to be cute or be a hero or something.' And you know what you said? Do you?"
Eddie won't look at him now. "I had to make a choice, Steve."
"It was the wrong one!"
"I would do it all again. No matter what you say. I would do it to draw the bats away. To protect Dustin."
"But you didn't."
"There was no other way to stop them, Steve! They would've gotten through, into Hawkins."
"It doesn't matter."
"You weren't there! You can't tell me--"
"Yes, I can! I know."
"You don't! You think--"
"I almost lost you!" He screams. "You nearly died in my arms, Eddie. And for what?"
Falling in love with Eddie wasn't easy. It was blood and near death; it was weeks in a cold hospital room while Eddie existed in a drug-induced twilight state; it was agonizing convalescence and physical therapy and changing bandages; it was Eddie leading dnd sessions with bright eyes and contagious enthusiasm, herding the kids to the arcade and video store, theatrically serving snacks at movie night; it was festering, senseless anger at the near loss of something.
Eddie's lips tremble. "Steve, I--"
"It doesn't matter." He turns away to slide a hand down his face in an effort to wipe away the emotion. "You're fine and we're--it doesn't matter."
"I'm sorry," he whispers. "Steve, I'm sorry. I wanted--I thought it would help. I thought--"
And Steve has to admit, he does, the whole terrible contradiction of it all. "I know," he whispers back. "I would've--I know."
"I thought I was protecting Dustin. I thought I was buying you guys time with Vecna." Eddie's voice breaks. "I didn't--I--" He squeezes his eyes shut.
In the quiet of the kitchen, they gravitate to one another, foreheads resting together.
"I should have been there, Ed. I shouldn't have left you two alone. You almost died, and I--"
"Sweetheart, I'm right here. We're right here."
They don't kiss, but they're close enough that their mouths brush with each breath they take.
"Don't do that, again." Steve clenches his fists into Eddie's cutoff t-shirt. "Promise you won't ever--"
"I promise, Stevie. I promise. I'll be by your side until the very end, whatever it is."

part one here. ze part two to touch-starved stevie that absolutely no one requested hehe <3 but i gots to let my boys have a wee kiss :")
So, hugs with Eddie become… well, a thing.
Not a thing. They’re not a thing, Steve and Eddie. It’s totally the same as when he gets hugs from Robin. Eddie’s doing him a favour as a friend. It’s got the 100% platonic energy of getting a hug from a friend — a hug that usually melts into some form of a cuddle, limbs all tangled together until they can’t tell whose are whose.
Except, Steve doesn’t really do that second part with Robin. Like he hasn’t done it ever with Robin.
So, it’s an Eddie thing.
But they’re not a thing. Not matter how much Steve would actually very much like for that happen. Okay, maybe Steve’s overthinking the whole thing a bit, but he just can’t tell.
Where’s the line? It’s infuriating not being able to discern between platonic and more, just because Steve wasn’t held enough as a fucking baby. Out of all the things he resents his parents for, Steve’s surprised that this is so near the top.
Because, sure, Steve’s had more than his fair share of hookups. He knows that sort of touch. He knows the shape of lust; the scrapes of fingernails down backs, the tight grips over skin, the push and pull of the heat of the moment.
And this thing with Eddie… is not that.
So, really, Steve knows that it’s all friendly. Eddie is just being nice. He’s being a decent dude and helping his friend out — by catapulting himself into Steve’s arms at every opportune moment.
(Steve’s only dropped 3 mugs of coffee because of this so far. It’s only because Eddie says good catch, big boy with a devilish grin every time that Steve manages to catch Eddie that Steve hasn’t completely told him to knock it off. Just yet, at least.)
And he’s different in other areas. He’ll always seem to choose the seat next to Steve on movie-nights now, content to snuggle right up to him. They get thigh to thigh, arm to arm — and Eddie only needs to get about 20 minutes in for him to do a big sigh, like an old dog, and slump over, resting his head on Steve’s shoulder.
Steve notices though. He always notices.
It’s impossible not to— the skin, even if there’s 3 layers between them, burns blazing warm. Eddie’s hair drapes over his arm, a curl inevitably tickling along Steve’s collar. He can feel the rise and fall of Eddie’s breathing, the little shake of when he laughs.
It drives Steve a little insane— insane in the way that makes him think about burying his fingers in those curls again, about pressing his lips against Eddie’s pretty mouth just to feel the smile against his skin, about digging into his chest so he can climb into his chest and live there.
Yeah, it’s— well, it’s safe to say that the effect of Eddie’s touchiness has sent what was once a fleeting thought of a crush into mind-melting levels of affection.
But he can’t fucking tell.
-
To Steve’s credit, neither can Eddie.
Which is not surprisingly considering sometimes he catches himself wondering how the hell he ended up here; in a close-knit friendship with band-geek Robin Buckley, princess Nancy Wheeler, and King Steve Harrington.
Okay, the Robin one sort of makes sense. He thinks that if no matter when their paths crossed, he and Robin would’ve always even some sort of strange friends - her snark complimenting his bitchiness. Also, the whole super queer thing helps too. Even the friendship with Nancy works, in its own weird way.
Steve though? He’s the fucking curve ball.
It works though, the two of them. Surprisingly well, actually — the two of them get on like a house on fire, bitchy quips back and forth. Even better, is the quiet that they can share. Steve loves to come around and do… nothing. Do nothing with Eddie, though.
So, even though Eddie had noticed the tension in Steve with touch, little moments where he turned rigid when Eddie’s usual wandering hands got too comfortable — Eddie chalked it up to the usual. Guys bring too uncomfortable with him, too weird about another guy being touchy. It didn’t matter than Eddie wasn’t even out to Steve yet, he was still might be that type of guy.
Well, Eddie had certainly thought so. Sure, Steve might not be one of those jocks who smacked around boys who looked too long in the locker room, but if he knew a smidge of the truth, who really knows. It would explain the tenseness at least.
But then— ‘Can I… have a hug?’ There had been a dozen things Eddie was thinking that Steve could’ve asked for but that? Wasn’t even in the ballpark. It was so left-field it left Eddie speechless for a whole moment. And Steve had been staring at the ceiling, his hands curled up tight again like- like he thought Eddie might say no.
A ridiculous thought, honestly. Anyone who knew Eddie well enough knew he was touchy; loved giving it, loved getting it. Like an overly affectionate cat, Wayne had once called him, just 11 years old, because Eddie’s need for affection seem to never be sated.
After that night, Steve’s lack of touch became far more obvious. It’s always hair ruffles or high-fives, yet never hugs. Normally, Eddie would keep to that boundary; some people are less touchy other than others, he knows that.
But… “Sometimes I realise it’s been awhile, since I’ve had some touch.” That’s what Steve had said, his words. Eddie doesn’t even think he meant to say something so heartbreaking. In fact, the guy seemed embarrassed.
It had thrown Eddie for a loop— because Steve gets around. He’s nearly notorious for one-night stands and failed flings, as Robin loves to drone on about considering she’s subjected to all the flirting. What had originally been a point of envy for Eddie, just saturates the bleakness of Steve’s words. Sex but without a moment of intimacy.
So, while Eddie is miles away from being the person who gets into Steve’s pants — not for lack of want, mind you — he does try hike up the touchiness. Little things. Lingering when he taps him on the arm, hooking his chin over Steve’s shoulder to peer over it, leaning up against him when they’re side by side watching a film.
It’s good. It helps Eddie release the pressure of his stupid monumental god-awful crush he has. Yeah, yeah, it’s laughable, even to Eddie. It’s like Gay 101; don’t get crush on straight dudes, especially the ones you’re friends with. And yet…
Steve lets him. He lets Eddie give him touch, more than he lets anyone else. He still tenses; there’s still always a moment before he can remember to relax, like he’s trying to shake off bad thoughts but then he melts. He always melts into Eddie’s touch eventually — in a way Eddie knows Steve actually loves it, drinks it up as much as he can.
And maybe, Eddie is the biggest fool to grace the Earth to let that fact give him some hope. Sue his gooey heart, he’s a romantic. It’s a quiet hope but, it’s there.
Tonight, it seems relaxing for Steve is been harder than usual— several times has Eddie traced a quite long along Steve’s arms, a subtle point that they were far too tense for someone who was wrapped up in cuddles on the couch. ‘Cos that’s 100% what they are now. Eddie will still call them hugs, but usually, when it’s just the two of them, it becomes this.
Steve, tucked up into the corner of the couch, one leg flush along the back of the couch and one hanging off the edge. It’s the prime position for Eddie to crawl up, wind his arms around Steve’s middle and give him a good squeeze and then settle there. Head on Steve’s chest, lying in the cradle of his hips. Safe. Warm.
It makes him warm, oh very warm to know that he gets this. That Steve doesn’t give this amount of trust to many, if any, other people but Eddie — he trusts Eddie.
“Y’know,” Eddie says, cheeks smushed against the plain of Steve’s pec. It feels deliciously warm and Eddie’s fairly sure he can feel how toned it is just through his cheek. Hot bastard. “I’m actually real glad you asked for that hug all those weeks ago.”
He leaves it there ‘cos he knows Steve will ask. Eddie’s eyes stay on the buzzing tv-screen even as Steve’s head shifts, turning to peer down at the boy slumped on his chest. Eddie’s pretty sure he can see Steve’s mouth twitch up into a smile.
“Yeah?”
“Oh yeah,” Eddie affirms, giving a nod and his eyes flick up to meet Steve’s for just a moment. “Think I’ve had some of the best hugs in the world.”
Okay, that was maybe more honest and sappy than Eddie was going for. He is just letting Steve know he isn’t just doing it for Steve — that he enjoys these moments just as much. He lays it on thick, tries for a smarmy angle.
“Swept up in these pillowy arms?” He croons, giving Steve’s bicep a quick squeeze, making the other chuckle softly. “Who wouldn’t think so? I’m a lucky guy.”
Despite the joking tone, there’s no quick comeback from Steve. That’s alright. Eddie’s quite happy if this is one of the times Steve just takes the compliment; let’s the word sink in and hopefully, believes them, even if it’s just a little bit. He watches the film and doesn’t read into the silence.
Not even when Steve says, “Eddie?” all soft. Nearly shy sounding. It doesn’t quite register to Eddie’s ears.
“Mm?”
“Eddie.” Steve says again, a little firmer and that catches Eddie’s attention. He turns his head and rests his chin on Steve’s chest, his brows drawn together in silent question.
But the moment he makes eye contact, Steve’s doing that scrunched up face again. Is studying the ceiling instead of facing Eddie. And just like all those weeks ago, his hands clench up tight. Twists up the fabric of Eddie’s sweater in between his fingers and uses it to ground himself.
Last time, he asked for a hug. Considering he’s currently just about squishing Steve beneath his body weight, Eddie can’t fathom what he might be worked up to ask for. Unless he was going to ask for something more than a hug— which, well, just wasn’t going to happen, even if Eddie really wanted it to.
“Can I-” Steve starts. He sucks in a breath, almost like he’s gathering courage. But he’s not, because he’s not about to ask for what Eddie hopes for, he’s not, he’s—
Unless…?
“Can I… have a kiss?” Steve asks, barely audible. The sentence is murmured, soft words that hit Eddie like a gentle kiss in itself — imprinting right onto his heart. Steve Harrington wants a kiss — from him!
“Oh.” Eddie says, in a breathy delightful way. He’s fairly certain the little monkey in his brain is clapping its cymbals at double-speed as the words process; or maybe it’s his heart, which feels like it’s leapt up his throat.
“Oh?” Steve echoes, a smile already playing at the edges of his mouth, because he can see Eddie’s want. Because he knows him.
“Yes.” Eddie says suddenly, with a frantic nod, pushing up closer so their faces are aligned. “Yes, absolutely, you can.” He affirms.
Steve huffs a quiet laugh at the eagerness and then his arm that had been slung around Eddie shifts. It moves up til his hand caresses along the line of Eddie’s jaw, tilting him just how he likes.
Eddie holds his breath. Counts the freckles he can see this close. Tries to feel Steve’s heartbeat through where they’re pressed so closely together; can Steve feel his? Thundering and hurried, beating so hard Eddie thinks he might bruise the inside of his ribs.
Then Steve kisses him. And shit, Steve’s lip are better by ten-fold than every daydream Eddie’s ever had about them. They’re warm and so soft — plush and pressing against his own and Eddie is freezing. Fuck, wait, how does this go again? Right, Eddie’s never… well, kissed anybody before.
Steve pulls back and Eddie screws his eyes up — not ready in the slightest for the disappointment of his own shoddy kissing skills. Fuck, did he really just freeze? Steve — Steve Harrington — asks for a kiss and Eddie decides to stab himself in the back by not figuring out how to fuck to kiss back.
“You call that a kiss?” Steve teases and Eddie’s well aware of the parallel — of the irony of Steve repeating his own words back at him. But he can’t make himself laugh even though it’s funny. Instead, a little groan wiggles out his throat.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie says, earnest. He forces his eyes opens — he needs to see what’s Steve’s thinking. Where he’s expecting disappointment or perhaps regret, is only patience. Maybe a touch of concern. Eddie continues, despite the humiliation that makes his throat sticky.
“I haven’t- I don’t do this often.” He coughs awkwardly clearing his throat and hoping it hides the next word. “Ever.”
There’s a jump in Steve’s eyebrows, a moment of surprise in his eyes that lets him know he did, indeed, hear that final word. It makes Eddie feel… well, it’s nice that Steve had expected him to have been kissed by now. Even if he hasn’t. He tries to take it as a compliment.
“That’s okay,” Steve assures. Absentmindedly, his thumb rubs soothing along Eddie’s jaw. It makes Eddie shiver, some outrageous amount of joy clawing into every nerve. Steve likes Eddie. He wants to kiss Eddie.
“Do you want to try again?”
Eddie nods before the questions even out of his mouth. Steve smiles, all sunshine. This time when he draws Eddie in, he notices the way Eddie holds his breath — the rigidness in his body.
Steve kisses him again, another short and soft one and then whispers against his lips, “Relax.”
‘Cos isn’t tonight just full of the parallels, Eddie thinks. He listens, tries to focus on how sweet Steve’s kiss is than his panicky heart, forcing out a breath between the kisses. His hands along Steve’s sides find a grip, grounding and good, and by the fourth kiss, he begins to feel a bit melty.
It’s good. It’s really good. Kissing Steve is top 5– nay, the top moment of his life so far. Somehow, it’s made all that much better knowing the build-up behind it. Knowing that Steve knows he isn’t just kissing him for a heat of the moment — that Eddie wants kisses here, kisses before bed, in the morning, on dates. Eddie wants Steve.
And with the way he kisses, Eddie’s pretty sure Steve wants him just as bad.
It doesn’t take long for Steve to reach what Eddie decides is an ultra pretty fuckin’ state; lips swollen from kisses, cheeks flushed, hair a little mussed up. He bets he looks no better. The thought makes him grin, enough they have to break the kiss ‘cos Eddie can’t stop his stupid happy grin ‘cos shit— he actually gets to have this Steve.
“What?” Steve asks, somehow half heart-eyed and half suspicious at the mischief in Eddie’s eyes.
“Can I... have a hickie?”

"I dreamt we had sex" Steve says out of nowhere, making Eddie choke and cough up a cloud of smoke from the joint that had just been handed to him.
"Wh- Huh?" is all he manages to say.
"It's stupid," Steve laughs not looking at him. Eddie deflates a little, but Steve keeps going, "Just as I was about to cum, I woke up," he says and then looks up at Eddie.
Who is blushing, very confused, and very horny.
"Do you know what that means?" Steve asks with a crooked smile.
Eddie shakes his head and sits up straight, dying to know the answer.
Steve's smile grows, "It means you are attracted to me" he declares.
And Eddie feels his blush intensify, he feels like he's been caught. Like he's being made fun of. He looks at his knees, where his hands are twisting the fabric of his sweats, and then looks up at Steve.
"It doesn't" he whispers in vain because it's obvious and too late to lie about now.
"Yes, yes, it does mean that," Steve whispers back, scooting closer on the couch they are sharing. His smile looks less amused and more kind now, soft and careful.
"I'm attracted to you," he says and Eddie's eyes go wide. He feels the heat coming off his face as Steve moves a little closer, hand going up to touch Eddie's red and hot cheek but stops a breath away, "And you are attracted to me but since you don't want to tell me," he pauses to smile because Eddie moves his face closer to Steve's hands, finally making contact and nuzzling into it, "You come into my dreams to tell me anyways."

We all agree Steve has the biggest praise kink ever, he absolutely does, but in the meantime, Eddie’s just getting off free, walking around openly saying that flattery works on him
Let's talk about how Eddie ‘hides behind his hair and holds back a smile at the smallest compliment’ Munson, would be fighting for his life dating Steve 'holds hands during sex, randomly says you're beautiful, turns on his charm like a secret weapon, confident sweet talker no matter how lame he looks' Harrington.
Eddie's probably used to people being entertained by him, but not being endeared, and now he has Steve fucking Harrington winking at him after Hellfire, looking at him like he’s something special even when he's sweaty and has Mountain Dew sticky fingers, casually saying, "Why did they ever call me the King when you look that good up there on your throne, hm?” It’s a miracle Eddie isn’t constantly falling to his knees. Sometimes Steve’s compliments get Eddie so flustered that he just has to hide his face in Steve's neck and bite him.

a lazy morning with boyfriend!steve (18+)
wc: 964
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
it was a soft stroke against your cheek and a featherlight kiss against your forehead that pulled you from your sleep.
your eyes fluttered open and you saw steve, who had the sweetest smile on his face. you would’ve been at least a little annoyed at him for waking you up right then, at a time that you knew was way too early, if it weren’t for that smile.
the soft glow of the early morning sun poured through the curtainless windows in his bedroom. if it hadn’t been steve waking you up right then, you knew that in a couple of minutes it would’ve been the sun when it hit his bed almost too perfectly. you’d much rather have a wake up call from your boyfriend than the sunlight that felt incessant this early in the morning.
you let out a soft groan and pulled the blanket over your heads, enveloping you both in some darkness. “i really need to get you some curtains.”
“you mean us. you need to get us some curtains.”
“i technically don’t live here.”
your boyfriend shifted closer to you, lips brushing against your forehead once again. “yet.”
it was hard to keep track of the nights you’d spent here at his apartment over the last year; you’d lost count after the first few months. it was something that definitely happened more often than not and you practically were already a permanent part of it; your presence lingered even when you weren’t there, and you loved the moments where your nights and mornings were spent with steve. but it was hard to make the official leap into making the place “ours” instead of simply just his.
because, logically, it was too soon; you two had barely been together a year. but it also felt so weirdly right, and there was a part of you that wanted to throw practicality out of the window and lean so heavily into that “rightness.”
you buried your face in his neck and let out a soft hum. “soon.”
“soon sounds really good,” steve hummed back as an arm circled around your waist and pulled you closer. you didn’t waste a second to tangle your legs with his and wrap yourself around him, your hand beginning to trace mindless circles against the bare skin of his back.
you were wearing his t-shirt and yours was somewhere on his bedroom floor, thrown there by him after he hurriedly pulled it off of you last night. and steve knew that you’d forget about it and it’d probably stay there for at least the next few days, but he didn’t mind that in the slightest.
he loved finding the random little pieces of “you” that were littered around the small apartment— a book that you finished reading but forgot to take home, cassettes of some of your favorite albums that now sat on his shelf, a couple pairs of your underwear and so many of your socks that somehow ended up in his laundry.
there was a part of you that wanted to lull yourself back to sleep for at least an hour or two longer, arms and legs wrapped around steve and face buried in his neck; an unconventionally comfortable position. but then there was something else that you wanted to do on this early sunday morning where neither of you had anywhere important to be anytime soon.
your lips found the underside of his jaw, pressing a soft kiss against the stubbly skin. “need you.”
the two words practically vibrated his skin and the low groan he let out was immediate. his hand snaked underneath your, his, shirt and started trailing up, up, up until it was circling your breast and his thumb was brushing against your nipple.
“please, stevie,” you whispered, and hearing how needy you sounded made him want to immediately fold.
steve nodded, it was the only response he could give you in that moment. his other hand found your chin and tilted your face upward, so that he could press a kiss to your lips.
and from there it was a mix of tangled limbs beneath the sheets and warm mouths against soft skin. the movements were rushed but also slow and languid. steve made quick work of pushing your underwear down your legs and you did the same with his boxers, but the kisses you shared were the opposite; they were attentive and sweet. you took your time sucking on a certain spot on his neck and leaving a pretty little mark, and he slowly moved his mouth against yours, wanting to savor it all.
“need you inside,” you whined against his lips.
“mhm, i know, honey,” he whispered as he grabbed your leg to hook it over his bare hip. he squeezed your thigh tightly before pushing home inside of you with one slow movement.
the pretty noises you let out were swallowed by him before you were burying your face in his shoulder and then deep into his neck, your soft moans sounding like sweet music to his ears.
probably from one of the first few moments you two met, steve knew that he wanted this forever. he was good at that; falling hard, falling fast.
he wanted to always fall asleep with you and wake up next to you, fuck you every early morning; even on the days where one or both of you had places to be. he wanted his space to become yours too. but, he was also okay with waiting until you were fully ready to take that next step.
and it would be next week, when you two were having another moment just like this one, that you finally listened completely to your heart instead of your head and told him yes.

They don't acknowledge it.
When Steve and Eddie share a bed - which, after that first nightmare-fueled middle-of-the-night phone call a few weeks after spring break, that first quiet "Come over," happens increasingly often until there's hardly a night they can't be found together - they don't acknowledge it.
They don't talk about how, though they start on either side of the bed (a decent space between them if they're in Steve's, elbows knocking if they're in Eddie's), it only takes a few minutes of anxious wakefulness before they tuck themselves together, arms wrapped tight and legs tangled.
It's just an unspoken understanding that Eddie sleeps better with Steve's arms curled around him, that Steve can't sleep without his palm over Eddie's heart, the rhythmic proof that Eddie is still alive beating into his hand.
So they don't acknowledge it.
Not when Steve starts pressing a kiss to the side of Eddie's head as they settle in, or when Eddie begins bringing Steve's hand to his lips before placing it back over his own heart.
And they don't acknowledge it when it starts to bleed over into their waking hours. When sitting next to each other on the couch during movie nights becomes Steve leaning his head on Eddie's shoulder becomes Eddie curled up on top of Steve, their eyes trained on the tv but their fingers tangled together on Steve’s chest.
When Eddie's regular visits to Family Video start and end with a hug that lingers maybe a little longer than strictly necessary and Eddie drapes himself over Steve's back to look at something in the magazine he's reading and they aren't more than an arm's length from each other the whole time Eddie is there.
When Robin sends Steve a raised eyebrow stare across the diner table, Eddie pressed against his side in the booth opposite her. She kicks Steve's leg under the table when he doesn't respond and he kicks her back, raises an eyebrow of his own that says not now.
And so they don't acknowledge it.
They don't acknowledge it until the sleepover when the kids beg Steve and Eddie to stay downstairs with them, to not retreat to Steve's room, to actually be a part of the sleepover like Robin and Nancy whispering in the corner, like Jonathan and Argyle giggling by the fireplace. When the combined forces of Erica's, El's, and Max's puppy dog eyes have him grumblingly setting up another sleeping area for him and Eddie. When Eddie smirks at him and knocks their shoulders together and Steve shrugs with a grin of his own that says I've got a soft spot for my girls, so sue me.
They don't acknowledge it until, after those few minutes of laying still next to each other, Eddie rolls into Steve's arms and Steve presses his lips to the side of Eddie's head and Eddie tugs Steve's hand to his lips and Dustin, observant and tactful as ever, asks, "What, are you two, like, dating now?"
There's a beat of silence before several muffled thumps and Dustin's, "Hey, ow, that hurt, jeez, it was just a question," sound from across the room, both Will and Lucas having kicked him while El smacked his arm. Max's hissed, "You can't just ask people that, Dustin, what the hell," has Robin and Nancy stifling giggles behind their hands.
Meanwhile, after a stiff, frozen moment, Eddie turns to catch Steve's eye and quietly asks, "Are we - ?" at the same time that Steve murmurs, "Do you - ?" They pause, only to speak in sync again when Steve answers, "I mean - " and Eddie says, "If you - "
They pause, matching shy smiles on their faces. Eddie pulls a strand of hair over his mouth, hiding behind it, before taking a deep breath and answering both their questions. "Yeah," he says.
"Yeah?" Steve asks, and the hope in it has Eddie squeezing the fingers still in his grasp.
"Yeah," he says, smiling softly.
"Okay," Steve sighs happily. He pulls Eddie's hair aside, gently presses a kiss to the side of his neck.
Eddie leans into it with a happy sigh of his own. Then he calls across the room, "Hey, Henderson."
The whisper-fight across the room immediately stills as they all turn to Eddie.
"Yeah, we're dating."
For a moment, it feels like everyone is holding their breath, then Dustin says, "Oh. Okay," and Robin calls out, "Congrats, Dingus," and the conversation gradually drifts to another topic.
Steve pulls Eddie closer, nuzzling into the space between his shoulder and neck. Eddie turns, just a little, just enough for Steve to lean down and kiss him, soft, chaste. Eddie leans into it, presses their foreheads together when they part, then settles back into Steve's hold.
"Goodnight, Eddie."
"Goodnight, Steve."
Tomorrow, they both know, there will be more to say. Questions to answer. Explanations to give. But, for now, this is all the acknowledgment they need.

It started with babes. Babes is completely platonic right? Nothing out of the ordinary there. Eddie was known for being over dramatic, why would nicknames -or in this case, pet names- be any different?
Babes wasn't even that over the top, so why was Steve blushing like a school girl after it was said in passing?
Steve definitely knew why, although, he was going to pretend he didn't. But he knew, about himself, about Eddie. A couple months after spring break '86 Steve had a very enlightening talk with Robin about his feelings. Towards Munson. Those completely and totally platonic feelings.
And a couple weeks later, as though Eddie was so in tune with Steve's discovery, Eddie came out to Steve at a campfire with Robin and Nance. Those two had wandered off, Eddie made some comment about "Good for Robs," before realizing his mistake. That was, until Steve said "Yeah, good for Robs," and Eddie just had to ask.
"You know about her? Y'know..."
"What? Eddie? Of course! She's my best friend."
"And you're ok with it?" Eddie was kind of shocked. Great 'King' Steve wasn't going to sick the dogs on Hawkins Local Lesbian? And it seemed like he had known longer than Eddie?
"Yeah, when you survive hell and back enough it's pretty hard to hate anyone for being gay." Steve left off the part where he was also into guys. He knew Eddie was ok with that, clearly ok with Robin, but Eddie might not be ok with being the guy Steve was into.
"Oh. Well," Eddie didn't know if it was the couple beers he had downed, or his newfound safety with this big ol' group of misfits, but he was comfortable asking Steve, "What if I was like Robin too?"
"Are you?" Steve asked. He wasn't going to get his hopes up over hypotheticals, but he could admit he had feelings for the older boy. He wasn't sure what feelings to be honest, but he was figuring that out as he went. He just knew they were more than platonic.
"Well, technically I'm the opposite of Robin, y'know. Not attracted to women. But yeah, I am." Eddie stared into the camp fire, torn between hoping that it would eat him alive, or that it would simply stare back.
"Okay, thanks for trusting me." Steve responded, plain as day.
He had asked Robin, if someone were to come out to him (granted they were not just drugged by Russians), what would she have wanted to hear. And he finally got the chance to use it, seeing the way Eddie's shoulders dropped in relief.
"So you're like actually ok with it?"
"Like I said, been to hell and back with you, who you love doesn't mean a thing over that."
" Yeah," Eddie said,"But most straight guys don't like it when gay guys flirt relentlessly with them."
"We'll keep that one between us then, won't we?" Steve wasn't entirely ready to correct Eddie on the straight thing, so he just didn't acknowledge that part. He chose to ignore the blush rise on his face, blaming it internally on the heat of the fire.
He also tried to ignore that at that point, the nicknames picked up.
It started with babes. Then baby, which made Steve's brain flutter. Then sweetheart. Eddie only used that one when he wanted something, and yet Steve still loved it. Stevie was one of the fan favorites. Not really a pet name, but used just as lovingly as one. Sometimes Eddie held out the end, in a sing-song voice. Made Steve weak in the knees. Eddie knew what he was doing.
It was babe that made Steve do something about it. Eddie used sweetheart, baby, Stevie, around everyone. In front of the kids, on his various trips to Family Video (whether to buy or annoy, who knew). But babe. Babe was just for Steve and Steve alone.
So of course, the only logical order of events was for Steve to start using them back.
It started with babe, the obvious choice. Fight fire with fire, or whatever. The meaningless pet names ended with babes too.
Because after Eddie kissed Steve to shut him up, they suddenly had meaning.

I was thinking about inexperienced Eddie again, and then was thinking about sweet drunk Steve, and then this happened. Enjoy my dears!
~°~
So they're at a party. All the teens at Steve's house probably, it's the biggest house, with the most rooms, enough for everyone to stay over if they drink too much and can't drive home. They all pretty much have their own rooms there now anyway.
But Eddie still isn't used to being in large groups, not when the groups aren't hellfire anyway, so he's kinda quiet, sticks by steve or robin most of the time, or stays in the kitchen, eating all of Steve's food.
But now he's sat on the living room floor, next to steve, legs crossed, red solo cup in hand. There's music playing low, and steve is swaying slightly next to him, his cup his almost empy. His second cup. Or third. Eddie thinks he may have missed him refill it once. Steve's shoulder keeps brushing his and Eddie's hands are starting to sweat, his skin feels hotter and hotter everytime someone speaks.
He doesn't remember who suggested Never Have I Ever but he should have run. He should have made an excuse to leave. Or not made an excuse. He should have just fucking run for the door.
But how the fuck was he supposed to know they were gonna make every question about sex. Well, almost all of them, Nancy had seemingly taken pitty and said one about saving the world so they ALL had to drink.
But other than that, Eddie's cup had been resting on the floor near his feet, his hand resting on top it, fingers splayed, gripping it too tight probably, but he was... very uncomfortable. His fingers drum against the rim to the soft beat of the music, nervous.
He almost takes a drink when Argyle says something about kissing, even lifts his glass, but then he adds something about using your tongue in a way Eddie's never even fucking heard of and Eddie just closes his eyes, takes a deep breathe, and lowers his glass again.
"You're not drinking."
Eddie vaguely hears Steve speak, feels him lean into his shoulder.
"Hmm?" He hums back, his eyes blinking hazily as he drags them from the floor, he lets them settle on Steve's nearly empty cup instead.
"Yer not drinking." He slurs into Eddie's ear, his voice quiet. His breath on Eddie's cheek makes him shiver.
"Nope." Eddie whispers back, shaking his head once.
"Not thristy?" Steve asks, and he sounds, so genuine. Eddie looks at him, leaning to the side a bit so Steve's face isn't so close. Steve blinks at him, his eyelids heavy, he looks, very drunk. But also beautiful. Eddie shrugs, looks away again.
"Just playing the game." He mutters, glances back to Steve and sees him frown. He watches him, his brows furrowed in confusion, his eyes moving a bit, like he's trying to solve a problem in his head. Eddie bites his lip, looks back to the floor.
"You-" Steve starts, stops, his hand moves to Eddie's knee as he moves closer. Eddie's breath catches in his throat, he looks at Steve again, his face so so close.
"You didn't drink. Cuz... no sex?" Steve's brow is furrowed again. Jesus, how fucking much had he had to drink? Eddie had to have missed more than a cup or two. He snorts, can't help it. Steve looks so confused, but like he's trying to be... something.
"Yeah Steve. I no sex." Eddie nods, pats Steve's knee and gently moves Steve's hand back into his own lap.
"Not even kisses?" Steve whispers, and he looks sad now, his lips pouting as he looks at Eddie, his eyes dropping to linger on Eddie's lips for a moment before he blinks and looks back up.
Eddie shakes his head, all the air in his lungs suddenly gone. Steve watches him for a beat longer and then nods, apparently deciding something. Eddie gulps, but Steve just reaches for his cup, picks it up and silently poors half of Eddie's beer into his own.
"Steve, don't. You've had-"
"Is fine." Steve whispers back, shaking his head.
"M' running out anyway." He passes his cup to his other hand and points at himself with a little wave of his hand.
"I do... too much sex. I think." He frowns again, looks around the cirlce, hears whatever it is Jonathan says and snorts, takes another drink and then looks back to Eddie.
"See. Drinking again." Steve says, smiling widely. Eddie frowns, but looks away. His hand clenching on his cup, he almost crushes the plastic before he thinks to let go. He leans to his other side, toward Robin, her cup isn't nearly as empty as anyone else's either.
"Hey Rob's?" Eddie asks, involuntarily flinching at the laughter that rings through the room.
"What's up?" She asks, leaning into him, her eyes bright.
"I think Steve's had... too much? To drink maybe." He says it quietly. Like he's unsure. He doesn't wanna ruin the party, or the game, or the moment, or whatever. But he's... concerned. Robin's brow crinkles and then she leans forward to look past Eddie. Eddie looks too, both of them watching as Steve sways forward, almost falls onto his face and then sways back, laughing to himself.
"Oh. Yeah no. Cut him off. I'll take him to his room. Get him some water." She starts to move, like she's getting up.
"I can get it." Eddie says, his hand on her shoulder. She gives him a look, one of those looks Eddie can never decipher. He knows Robin sees more of him than he's shared with anyone. Except Wayne. But it's never judgemental, and he knows why, but its never expectant either. It's just this look she gives him.
"You sure?" She ask, her hand still on the floor like she's gonna shove herself to her feet.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm not uh... not exactly enjoying this game very much anyway. You stay. I got it." He watches her drop her eyes to Eddie's cup, and he's suddenly sure she'd seen Steve take half of it for him, because she smiles, softly, and nods.
"Okay. Thanks. Don't forget the water. And put a couples aspirin on his nightstand too for the morning. Or he'll-"
"Get a migraine.  On it." Eddie finishes, she smiles again, big this time. He pats her shoulder.
"Have fun." He says, cringing when the room fills with laughter again. He slides his cup to her and then looks back to Steve.
"Hey." He says softly, his hand hovering above Steve's knee, he decides to touch his arm instead, Steve's head sways toward him and he smiles when he sees Eddie looking at him.
"Hey." He breathes back, his breath smelling like beer.
"You wanna come with me big guy? So you can get some rest?" Eddie asks, his fingers curling around Steve's wrist. He sighs, drops his head to Eddie's shoulder.
"Rest sounds nice." He hums, nuzzling closer. Eddie laughs, can't help it, he's nervous and drunk Steve is... new. He's never been around drunk Steve before.
"Okay well not here. I'm gonna help you get to your room okay?" Eddie says, pushing up onto his knees so he can help Steve stand. He nods, lets Eddie pull him up and hold him steady.
"Are you leaving brochachos?" Argyle calls from across the circle, the others all groan, sad.
"I have to rest now!" Steve shouts at them, pointing accusingly at them, but he's smiling.
"Aww he's sleepy!" Jonathan calls back, his voice almost as slurred as Steve's, Eddie watches him fall into Argyle's side, giggling.
"Ya know what!?" Steve yells, stops, his face falling as he forgets what he was saying. His eyes find Eddie and he his lips curl a bit, his hands grab Eddie's shoulders, steadying himself.
"M' tired Eddie." He mumbles, frowning again. Eddie nods, his hands moving to hold Steve's arms.
"I know. Let's go bud." And he leads Steve away, both of them waving to the chorus of good byes and goodnights behind them.
~°~
Getting Steve to bed is easier than Eddie guessed it would be, he'd been slumping into Eddie more with each step down the hall. Eddie was pretty sure he was almost alseep on his feet already.
There was one moment of panic, when Steve was changing into his pajamas and the zipper on his jeans got stuck, and he'd grabbed Eddie's hand, guided it to his zipper and requested he fix it. Eddie had nearly yelped and stumbled back, away from Steve. But he was standing with his eyes closed, swaying on the spot, waiting for help so he could sleep. So Eddie had done his best with shaking hands to get the zipper down. Steve had slurred a thank you and shoved his jeans down so fast he almost slammed his head into Eddie's. He had jumped back then, out of Steve's headbutting range.
He'd turned his back while Steve changed and then heard the rustling of sheets and turned to find Steve getting settled beneath his sheets.
"I gotta go get you some water. And some medicine for your head so Robin doesn't kill me. But I'll be back okay?" Eddie tells Steve, he watches Steve snort, his eyelids drooping again.
"Robin." Is all he says after the laugh, and it makes Eddie smile. He jogs back down to the kitchen, grabs a glass of water and some meds, and then heads back up, passing the living room he hears hushed voices, the game apparently over now. He peeks in, sees them all cuddled together sleepily on the floor, Robin is the only one who notices him, she waves with her free hand. Eddie smiles, her other hand is tangled up with Nancy's, and runs back up the stairs.
Steve is still awake, but barely. He's leaning against the head rest, his head tilted back, mouth dropped open, but one eye pops open when hears Eddie's chains jingle back into the room.
"You came back." Steve says with a smile, his hand lifting from his sheets to reach for Eddie. He sits on the edge of the bed and hands Steve the glass of water.
"I want you drink at least half of this before you sleep okay?" Eddie says, trying to use his stern voice, knows it doesn't work. But it doesn't matter. Steve takes the glass and nods with wide eyes before chugging the whole thing. He wipes his mouth with his hand, hiccups as he hands it back to Eddie.
"Thirsty." Is all he says, he's blinking slowly again. Eddie chuckles.
"Okay awesome. Yeah. Good job. I'll refill it." He moves to get up, but Steve grabs his wrist, then slides down, laying his head on his pillows.
"Not right now. Just stay here. Promise?" Steve's eyes are closed, but his grip on Eddie is firm.
"Okay. I promise." Eddie breathes, his heart pounding in his throat. He waits for Steve fall asleep, it doesn't take long. And he goes to refill the glass, comes back and sits on the floor, his back to Steve's bed.
He knows he should lay down, should sleep. Will regret it in the morning. And he's about to, lay down, when Steve speaks behind him.
"No one's really ever even kissed you?" His voice says, and then Eddie feels Steve's fingers brush his hair, genlty. He shakes his head, not sure if Steve can see him in the dark, he clears his throat.
"Uh... not really. I don't think kisses under the jungle gym in 4th grade count in that game." Eddie says, shrugs.
"Hmmm... maybe not." His voice is still heavy, still open. There's a beat. And then.
"Is it cuz you like boys?"
And Eddie's heart stops, his stomach drops, and he feels like he might cry. He doesn't turn around. Doesn't say anything. Doesn't defend himself. And then Steve says.
"Boys are pretty. But it's scary kissing boys. Or.. or wanting to. But I bet it's nice." He sighs, and Eddie thinks he might be alseep again. His hands clawing at his own thighs, fingers digging in as they shake. His breathing is shakey too. He feels like he might shake out of his own skin and just float away.
"I guess it's just... no one's ever wanted me." Eddie whispers into the dark. He sure Steve's won't hear him. Sure he won't remember any of this anyway. And he hadn't been... mean, or... judgmental, just... asking. And honest.
And then Steve is touching him. He moves the hair away from Eddie's neck easily, like he's done it a thousand times, and then Eddie's breath catches again when he feels Steve's lips press to the back of his neck, just once, but it's a firm press, full of intent. And then he's gone. Falling back onto his pillows.
"There. Kissed you." He says, and Eddie can hear him smiling. And then, seconds later, he hears him snoring. Soft little things, peaceful.
The warmth of his skin lingers on Eddie neck. He moves his hand slowly, brushes his fingers over the spot gently, shivering in the dark.
~°~
Eddie leaves before Steve wakes up in the morning. He wants to wait. But he has a half shift at the shop today and he has to shower first. He leaves a note, tells Steve to take the aspirin. And tells him to have a good day.
He draws a little demon smiley face at the bottom. Almost signs it "yours, Eddie." But just writes his name and runs.
Work goes well. He's nearly finshed rebuilding the engine he's been working on for months. He's covered in grease and dirt, but he feels good. Feels usefull. His neck has been tingling all day.
He's just getting out of the shower again when he hears the knock at the door.
"Shit. Gimme a minute!" He calls, patting at himself hurriedly with his towel, he grabs a pair of boxers and sweatpants, yanks them on over his damp legs. Nearly falling as he does, grabs a clean shirt from his laundry basket on the floor and shoves himself into it. His hair is still up in a messy bun but he jogs to the door.
"Coming!" He yanks the door open to find Steve. Standing in the light rain that had apparently started.
"Shit. You're getting wet, come in." Eddie steps back, waves him in.
Steve hovers by the door, he's staring at Eddie, his hands shoved in his pockets, his hair looking more wild than normal. There are dark circles under his eyes. He looks tired, but his eyes are bright. Eddie takes a step back, looks to the floor, feeling nervous under his scrutiny.
"You uh... you okay? You're head feeling alright?" Eddie asks, to cut the silence. Cannot stand the silence.
"Yeah. Heads good. You're hair-" Steve stops talking when Eddie's eyes land on him again. Eddie's hand reaches up, then falls back to his side, his cheeks feeling hot.
"Oh. Yeah. I washed it this morning, before work. Didn't wanna wash it again." He shrugs, huffs a little laugh. Not sure what else to say.
"It looks nice. Like that." Steve says, then clears his throat. And that's when it hits Eddie, the look that Steve has going, he looks nervous.
"Are you okay?" Eddie asks, stopping himself from taking a step forward. Steve's eyes widen in question, and then he's nodding, his teeth digging into his lip briefly.
"Yeah I'm good. I just... I wanted to talk to you." Steve says, sighs loudly.
"About last night." His face scrunches, like he doesn't wanna be saying it. Oh. Of course. Of course that's what it is. Eddie swallows, squares his shoulders, guard up. He nods, waves his hand at Steve.
"Don't worry about it man. You were drunk." He turns, walks into the kitchen, clears his throat, hard, to dislodge the firey lump that's growing there. His hand moves without his permission, fingers touching the back of his neck.
"Wait what?" Steve's confused voice says, before he follows Eddie into the small kitchen space.
"What?" Eddie echoes.
"I- I didn't come here to apologize for anything." Steve says, bluntly, his hands out of his pockets now, they're worrying over his thighs, smoothing back and forth over his jeans.
"You... didn't?" Eddie's brow furrows, he wraps his arms around his middle, watches Steve gulp as he shakes his head.
"Then why are you here?" Eddie leans against the counter, now as far away from Steve as he can get, but Steve isn't having that, he keeps moving closer, slowly.
"I came to tell you something." Steve says, slowly, his lips pressing together before he licks them.
"Tell me what?" Eddie's voice is small, his breathing is faster than he'd like it to be, heart thundering agaisnt his ribs.
"I do." Is all Steve says. Unhelpful.
"You... do. You do what?" Eddie asks, his voice higher than it should be, Steve is still moving, closer and closer, step by step.
"Last night. You said, no one's ever wanted you." Steve speaks slowly, his eyes glued to Eddie's face.
"Okaaaay..." Eddie so lost, his brain isn't working right, he's missing something, he knows he is. He can feel it, see it in the way Steve is looking at him expectantly.
"Well. You were wrong. Cuz I do. I want you." Steve clarifies, finally, blinking at Eddie as he takes a step, placing him one step away from Eddie.
"You want- no you don't. You were drunk. Very drunk. And you just- you're very clingy when you're drunk. It's not-" Eddie's mouth runs wild, tossing out excuses because this can't be real. Steve can't be saying what he's saying. But Steve is also smiling.
"I was drunk. Yes. But I remember you saying that. I remember how sad you looked during that fucking game. I remember saying some things to you I probably shouldn't have, not without you telling me first. I am sorry about that, actually." He tilts his head forward, Eddie swallows, nods, bites his lip, his throat is burning again.
"But I also remember kissing you. I remember how hot your neck was against my lips. And I remember all the things I've been thinking about you, for months, while completely sober." He smiles, reaches out, his fingers ghosting over Eddie's wrist where its settled against his stomach.
"I've been thinking about kissing you for ages. I just- drunk me has less... self preservation." Steve smiles, it's crooked, like he's tucking his cheek in so he doesn't laugh. Eddie thinks it maybe matches his crooked smile now.
"Drunk you thinks you're a slut." Eddie huffs a laugh, Steve barks one, nods, takes that last step.
"Yeah. I kinda used to be." He shrugs, both hands reaching out to Eddie now, resting on his elbows.
"Well I'm not." Eddie says, a little more harsh than he meant to, but it doesn't deter Steve, just makes him smile again.
"I know. Kissing under a jungle gym definitely doesn't give you slut status." Steve teases. Eddie blushes, looks away, his eyes drop to the floor.
"I don't understand." Eddie sighs, brow furrowed.
"Don't understand what? Why I want you if you've never done anything?" Steve asks, blunt now too. And Eddie kind of loves it, the way he can just say it. Eddie nods.
"Why would you want someone like me? No one else does. And now I've got this. These." He points to the jagged scar on his cheek, motions over the rest of himself, to his other hidden scars. Steve moves then, fast, tugs Eddie's arms away from himself and grabs his hips, presses into Eddie's space.
"It doesn't have anything to do with that. I don't care that you have no experience. That's not... that not why I date people. Besides, it might nice. Ya know, I've never been with a guy before, we could figure it out together." There's a question in Steve's eyes, like he's asking. Eddie bites his lip, tugs it between his teeth and then lets his hands move. Rests them on Steve's shoulders, he nods,
"That could be nice." He echoes. Steve nods, presses a little closer, his thighs bumping Eddie's.
"I think so. And the scars, we kinda match. Like little fucked up puzzle peices." Steve whispers. Eddie laughs then, big, and bright. Steve pulls him closer, wraps his arms around him and hugs him, tucks his face into Eddie's neck. Eddie grabs at his shoulders, holds him tightly, his body shaking at all the contact.
"You're trembling." Steve breathes into his neck. Eddie nods quickly, feeling frantic now. Steve moves to look at him.
"That's only gonna get worse. The more you touch me." Eddie admits, feels his whole body flush, Steve bites his lip, his fingers move over the heat along Eddie's neck as his eyes darken.
"What are you thinking about?" Eddie asks, his hands tugging on Steve's sweater, he knows his hands are sweating, is pretty sure Steve doesn't care.
"I'm thinking..." he trailes off, hooks one finger into the collar of Eddie shirt and tugs it down a bit.
"I wanna see how far this goes." He brushes his thumb over Eddie's neck again, it drags a whimper out his throat, Steve's dark eyes meet his, a smile curls his lips. But it's not a sweet Steve smile, there's a hunger there now that wasn't there before. Eddie gulps.
"I'm in trouble aren't I?" He asks, body shaking as Steve tugs their hips together again, leans closer and closer, his breath ghosting over Eddie's lips as he says,
"Oh you have no idea."
Eddie chuckles, laughs into his first real kiss, before Steve deepens it, genlty, dragging a moan out of him.
Later. When they're tangled together on Eddie's bed, clothes rumpled and shoved at odd angles, Eddie's hair no longer pulled back, Steve holding him close as his breathing finally evens out, Steve tells him it was perfect. The perfect Eddie first kiss.
He tangles his hands in Eddie's hair, pulls him closer, and tells him he can't wait to see what other kinds of kisses Eddie might be hiding. Tells Eddie that any and every kiss he laughs into will be perfect. Because they're his. And now Eddie is too.

steve uses the non-verbal safeword.
CW: slight NSFW, panic/anxiety attack, harmful stims (scratching self)
“tap three times on me if you ever can’t speak and wanna stop, okay?”
yes, steve had remembered those words. all throughout the times they had sex, he remembered those words. but it didn’t make them any less scary.
the thought of ever needing to stop in the middle of a scene made his palms sweat. of course he and eddie trusted each other; knew that if the other was in trouble and needed to stop, they’d completely understand. no judging whatsoever.
but still… absolutely needing to stop and move on made him so anxious. deep down he didn’t want to be a disappointment. he didn’t want eddie upset.
“baby, what’s your color?” eddie murmured to him, rubbing his shoulders and slowing his rhythm. steve did not reply, shakily breathing into the pillow and tearing up.
“steve, color?” he asked, louder, and more firm. yet he could not bring himself to talk. his mind went to the other times in previous relationships, where he felt like this exactly, and they didn’t even think to check in. and he couldn’t bring himself to stop them.
he could feel eddie shift, basically ready to pull out, before he asked again, “steven.”
oh. his full name. eddie only used it when he was deadly serious. this seemed to snap him out of his haze, and he shakily reached behind him and found somewhere on his body to tap.
one. two. three soft and hesitant taps, just like eddie told him to do months ago.
“red,” eddie mumbled to himself, worried, and pulling out immediately. he flipped steve over, pulling him close and cupping his tear-stained cheeks.
“what’s wrong? what can i do?” he asked softly, searching his eyes.
“i- i don’t know,” he choked out, a heavy sob leaving his lips before gulping down air he felt like was leaving his body too fast.
“that’s okay, just breathe. breathe, steve, okay? c’mere,” he pulled him into his lap, his head in his neck as he continued to cry. eddie ran his fingers through his hair, and steve clutched onto him tight.
“deep and slow breaths,” he told him, and steve was doing the opposite. breathing way too fast and inhaling far too much, to the point his chest and stomach hurt and he began to feel dizzy.
“steven, listen to me,” there it was again, the full name, which brought him somewhat back to his senses, “deep, slow breaths. do it with me.”
and he tried. he breathed with eddie, taking in some air and blowing it out too fast before inhaling sharply again; coughing and sobbing.
“there, that’s it. it’s okay baby, just try again.”
steve only wanted to cry more. of course eddie was congratulating him even after he didn’t even do it.
“again,” he told him, beginning to inhale slowly, holding it, and exhaling slowly. steve followed, better this time, but still failing.
“i- i can’t,” he choked out.
“yes you can, do it with me,” he said, inhaling and exhaling again. steve followed, his hand going to his forearm, clawing to try and ground himself more.
“no,” eddie caught his arm, pulling it away and bringing it up to his chest, “do you remember what your therapist said?”
“he said,” he paused, his breath catching in his throat as he cried, “to find a different way to ground myself.”
“correct. now, just feel my heart. i’m right here, steve. i’m not leaving. try and match your heartbeat to mine,”
steve kept his hand flat against eddie’s chest, then did the same for himself. he could feel how fast his heart was going versus eddie’s, and it made him uncomfortable.
the other rubbed his back, and kept one hand running through his hair, breathing slow and deep and watched as steve tried to do the same.
“good job,” he praised, kissing his cheek. the pair’s breathing pattern was now the same, and steve was no longer crying. steve nodded as thanks, crawling off eddie’s lap and under the blankets, curling up. eddie stood to put his underwear and sweats back on, only to sit back down on the bed and run his fingers through steve’s hair again.
“do you want to talk about it?”
steve sighed shakily and shrugged, wiping his red cheeks.
“just started thinking,” he mumbled.
“about?”
“things in previous relationships. and then i started feeling like i was crawling in my own skin, and i started to panic,”
“what about your previous relationships?” he questioned, only curiously, with no mean intent.
steve let out a quick exhale before sitting up, “how i could never really say no, i guess? i know it doesn’t matter now. i trust you. and i started feeling overwhelmed in the first place, so i started thinking about the safe word, and how you told me to say ‘red’ or tap you three times. but it just made me anxious. i knew i needed to stop but i didn’t want to upset you in the process,”
“you could never upset me over something like that, steve, okay? that’s the point of the taps and the system we have. you know your limits, and in case they’re ever pushed, you do or say so. i’m so proud of you for using it,”
eddie pulled steve in for a hug, rubbing his back softly. steve’s heart kind of broke. here he was, in his boyfriend’s arms starting to cry again because he said he was proud of him. proud of him for something as simple as saying no, and stop. something he never thought he could do; something he was taught was wrong, and his boyfriend was praising him for it.
“i’m proud of you,” he repeated, to which steve only cried harder, nodding in his shoulder as thanks and sniffling.
he pulled back, laying down and wiping his face again.
“i’m gonna go bring you some water and some easy food to eat, okay? just stay there,” he smiled, getting up and heading to the kitchen.
steve smiled softly, getting comfortable under the warm blankets and inhaling the familiar scent of gain and eddie’s cheap cologne.
and he thanked the universe for a boyfriend that was actually a decent human being.

Their dining room table has been taken over by thousands of tiny little beads and elastic in different colors.
Steve sits opposite their sixteen-year-old daughter, a thin elastic band clutched in one hand and an assortment of approved beads laid out in front of him. He picks up a small purple crystal-like bead and tries to feed the elastic through the minuscule hole.
“Christ, why isn’t this hole bigger,” he groans, squinting as he tries for the third time to thread the bead onto the elastic.
“Aw, but I thought you liked tight holes, sweetheart,” Eddie teases, sauntering into the room.
Their daughter pretends to retch before turning up the Taylor Swift song playing from her phone, hoping to drown them out. It doesn’t matter that they have a state-of-the-art stereo system in the other room that sounds a thousand times better than the shit speakers in her phone. She likes the convenience.
Steve, on the other hand, glares playfully at Eddie. “Seriously, not in front of our daughter.”
“Oh, please, don’t pretend she doesn’t know things.”
“I mean, yeah, but she doesn’t need to know things about us.”
“I really don’t,” their daughter agrees.
Eddie laughs before collapsing onto the seat beside Steve. Assessing the beads in front of him, Eddie collects a few and gets to work.
“Hey,” Steve whines, swatting Eddie’s hand away when he tries to steal one of his beads. “These are mine. You didn’t even get her approval.”
Eddie scoffs. “I don’t need her approval. She trusts me, right bug?”
Their daughter rolls her eyes, but nods. Eddie hoots victoriously before going back to his own bracelet. Steve shares a look of amusement with their daughter. One that says it’s better to let Eddie think he won than try to give him a set of rules to play by.
Many things have changed about Eddie over the years, but one thing that has remained the same is his disdain for other people’s rules — even if the rules are coming from his daughter.
When Steve tries to take a peek at what Eddie is working on a moment later, he gets a swift elbow to the ribs. “No peaking!”
Shaking his head, Steve gets back to his own bracelets. It’s a lot easier threading the beads when he grabs his glasses from the bedroom and he manages to finish two daughter-approved bracelets in the time it takes Eddie to finish whatever he’s been working on.
“Are you ready to see the best bracelet ever?” he asks, standing up with all the dramatics he had when he was thirty years younger.
Steve and their daughter nod, setting aside their own bracelets to look at Eddie’s creation.
A rainbow of beads, all different shapes and sizes surround a group of block letter beads that reads: Fuck Ticketmaster.
Steve laughs while their daughter smirks, shaking her head.
“It’s not a Taylor lyric, but I appreciate the sentiment.”
“Our bank account definitely agrees.”
“So will the Swifties, you’ll see!” Eddie says, reaching for another random set of beads to start another bracelet.
The three of them spend the rest of the afternoon making friendship bracelets. Well, Steve and their daughter do. Eddie continues making “Fuck Ticketmaster” and various other obscure and random bracelets. The highlights of which include a red beaded monstrosity with the word “scarf” on it and one that just says "Olive Garden."
Unfortunately for Steve and their daughter, Eddie’s unhinged bracelets are the biggest hit at the concert. He ends up trading all his bracelets before they even get into the stadium.
He doesn’t let them live it down, proclaiming himself the King of Friendship bracelets.
