katniss was insane for saying that she knew better than the tragic story that the Capitol was writing for them because she kept them both alive AND went on to have his babies 🥹

Dean Casca Highbottom apologizing to Lucy Gray for what she's been through and spending the rest of his life regretting ever uttering the concept of the hunger games out loud and deeming it his worst mistake and hating Dr Gaul for taking it that far despite him repeatedly asking her not to and hating Crassus Snow for stealing the idea and giving it to Dr Gaul and hating himself for coming up with it even if he was drunk and being defined by it for the rest of his life
Geoffrey Hinton "the godfather of AI" quits Google and regrets his life's work due to risks to humanity and "consoles himself by telling himself that if it hadn't been him it would have been someone else"
J. Robert Oppenheimer "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds" spending the rest of his life trying to denounce the use of his life's work and trying and failing to take back control of it and saying he has blood on his hands and being awarded and forever defined by it

I said this while reading the book years ago, snow’s story isn’t a redemption arc in the slightest but instead his story is supposed to make us realize we are a citizen of the capitol, not a rebel, not a poor starving tribute, not even a random person in district 8, we are privileged people in a society that lets so many others suffer
and something about sitting in a movie theater watching children brutally murder each other made me so uncomfortable because it made that point even more abundantly clear, we were literally the audience enjoying the 10th hunger games for our personal entertainment

Something something Prims baby clothes being kept long after she needed them but getting sold once Mr. Everdeen has died as a sign of lost hope… something something
Of all the things she could have chosen for katniss to desperately try and sell– which makes sense, not being able to sell baby clothes in a world where your children get reaped for a death game– WHY baby clothes. Maybe they couldn’t sell them just as katniss couldn’t, but it’s still fabric that might be utilized for something else. Mr. Everdeen is said to be a good negotiator.
Why keep them when there’s no one to wear them? Because there was a possibility. It doesn’t even have to be taken literally as “we might have another baby” it’s just… an end. To the warm family of her childhood, to safety, to full bellies and hope and being a child herself

"if it wasn't for the baby" is such an amazing metaphor for the abortion debate and the prolife movement. the capital didn't care that literal children were forced to fight to the death annually, but as soon as someone mentioned an unborn baby it was no longer okay.

When you realize the revolution all started because of love. Because Peeta burnt the bread and threw it to Katniss so she wouldn’t starve to death. Because Katisss was protecting the only person in the world she was sure she loved when she volunteered as tribute. Because Peeta confessed he had been in Love with Katniss for years. Because Katniss honored Rue when she died by singing to her and surrounding her body with flowers. Because Thresh spared Katniss for protecting Rue. Because Katniss saved Peeta even though she didn’t have to. Because the star crossed lovers couldn’t die in that arena. Because Katniss only ever wanted to save Prim and keep Peeta alive. Because loving others so fiercely was seen as an act of defiance against the Capitol.

i am a career defender for life, and that includes the “career pack” from the 10th games (coral, mizzen, treech, and tanner)! i literally just found out mizzen was 13 and the thought of coral, who is seen as the “villain” in the 10th games, keeping him around in her pack just because he was from 4 too, not because he was big and strong or particularly powerful, makes me SICK. i am SICK. i read I’ll Meet You On The Beach by redrasberries and sobbed. they were just kids, man.

Did they ever tell us how Finnick Odair won his Hunger Game or did they just never explain that.

that scene at the end with tigris and coryo KILLED ME bc poor tigris is looking at her cousin, frantically searching for her coryo, the one who was capable of so much good, the one who she gave up everything for, and all she sees is coriolanus snow, the heir of Crassus Snow. Her coryo is dead.

Bitches be having an unhealthy obsession with tragic and codependent and toxic sibling relationships in media and then be surprised when they latch onto Tigris Snow like a lifeline

Thinking about how in the first hunger games Peeta says he wants to show the capitol they don’t own him, that he is more than just a piece of their games, that he doesn’t want them to change him and if he is gonna die he still wants to be himself. Then by Mockingjay his mind has been so fucked by being tortured by the Capitol that he doesn’t even remember that his own favourite colour is sunset orange…

the hunger games simply is that bitch it simply has that complex understanding of the ideas it is discussing and distills them so effectively that people don't even notice how much work is being done even by basic functions of the plot like. the fact that katniss is not the leader of the revolution, coin is. (and while the districts were rebelling independent of coin, it is extremely less likely they would have won a war against the capitol without her esp that quickly) and so! of Course katniss has to kill coin! because you can't trust military leaders of revolutions to be good leaders it's simply a completely different skill set
