Suzanne collins is a certified GENIUS because by making most of the book about the PUBLICITY of the rebellion and not the fight itself, she was telling us that wars are won by who persuades more- who controls the narrative .

i think the most frustrating part about tbosas is the fact that you want to root for coryo. you want him to be a better man for lucy gray. you want him and sejanus to become closer, to become the best friends sejanus believes them to be. you want him to run away and find a way to relearn all the oppressive and tyrannical ideals the capitol instilled in him.
but that’s not what happens.
coriolanus isn’t necessarily a good person. he’s not a bad person either, not yet, but he’s no where near good. and rather than try to be good, he gives up, he lets himself “go bad”, he rats out sejanus, he lets his anger get the best of him and loses lucy gray.
the idea that coryo could be a good person but chooses not to be is exactly the reason this book and this character are brilliant.

There is something so special about District 11. The love, and loyalty. The kindness passed on to other tributes. They are my Roman empire.

I have never been able to shake off how the name Katniss was chosen from a hardy, tuberous plant whose botanical name is Sagittaria.
Sagittaria alluding to Sagittarius, known for being represented by the Archer. Bow and arrow.
Sagittarius is also sometimes alluded to Orion, the Hunter, famous for his friendship with Goddess Artemis.
Artemis, protector of young girls. Her favorite place to dwell in forests. Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, who favored archery.
Suzanne Collins, the woman that you are, thank you.

So you know that feeling after a while of not seeing someone, you tend to forget their voice and if you don't have a picture of them, you start to forget their face?
I'd like to imagine Snow eventually forgot the sound of Lucy Gray's voice and her lyrics, but it's not as though he was shattered over that. I'm sure one morning he woke up, realized he had completely forgotten "his girl's" face, and he was content, maybe even relieved. Just like how history and the Capitol would forget her, so would he. And that's all he could hope for.
Now, you remember that nostalgic feeling and memories that rush back to you whenever you hear a song that you haven't heard in years? Suddenly, you remember the beat and the lyrics, word for word, like you haven't forgotten at all?
Imagine that, but 65 years later. 65 years and suddenly Snow is thrown for a real fucking loop. The moment he hears Katniss sing the meadow song, it all comes flooding back to him. Unlocking a memory he kept in a vault far from the public eye.
Whether or not Lucy Gray is dead during the events of the 75th Hunger Games, I'm sure she would be laughing at the irony, and her laughter gets picked up by mockingjays. And even though Snow is nowhere near a mockingjay where he sits comfortably in the Capitol... his could definitely still hear it, echoing in the back of his mind. The sound of her voice, haunting him in his sleep and especially while he's awake... 65 years later.
"Be somethin' easy to forget
Oh, you think I'm gone 'cause I left
But I'm in the trees, I'm in the breeze
My footsteps on the ground
You'll see my face in every place
But you can't catch me now
Through wading grass, the months will pass
You'll feel it all around
I'm here, I'm there, I'm everywhere
But you can't catch me now
No, you can't catch me now..."

I don’t know if anyone noticed this parallel in the Huger Games:
The revolution began with a black, little girl: Rue.
The revolution phased into democracy with a black woman: Commander Paylor.

if the hunger games were written by any other author, what happens in the arena would be more than one third of the book

Coriolanus throwing out the most human parts of himself (his mother’s powder, the photos of his family) and only keeping the worse (his father’s compass) is what really destroyed me

Bitches be having an unhealthy obsession with tragic and codependent and toxic sibling relationships in media and then be surprised when they latch onto Tigris Snow like a lifeline

People. If you read The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds looking for romance (or didn't because of said romance), go back and re-read it! Just did a re-read, and wow! It really packed a punch! So much about Snow, about the games, the foreshadowing! I can't wait for November!
