hey! I actually wanted to ask a bit of a general question. do you know if Mercedes' tradition of going bowling in Japan was going on while Nico and Lewis were in the team or did it start later?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's nico in 2013 talking about how lewis invited the team to go bowling in japan... nowadays merc is too big so lewis rents out the entire bowling hall, but back in 2013 the fans watched them bowl
Tumblr media
here's merc team posting in 2014, you can see lewis and nico in the front row (toto and niki lauda too) 👇
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here's the funny part
Tumblr media
nico taking his team out to bowling in sukuza in 2012 ! aka when his teammate was michael schumacher
so yes, this is a time honoured merc tradition and went on while nico was there

🏎️💨 THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️💨:
Creds to @avida-heidia-5 for making this!
Tagging - @danielfuckingricciardo @carsgonyoom @formulaforza @vetteltea @silverstonesainz @goldsainz @monzabee @rose-tinted-juls @ricc3rodeo @a-distantdreamer @fernandoswarcrimes @f1version @lxnceclercs @leclsrc and literally whoever else wants to do it!
1. Who or what got you into F1?
I don’t actually have a good answer for this - but my family have always watched it and then one random Sunday my brain just went ‘you like this now, it’s about to become your whole personality’
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
Danny Ric ♥️ I do still support him, and my opinion is about the same! He’s just a silly goofy guy
3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?
Daniel but Alex is also up there. While Daniel was gone for the start of the season, Alex worked his way up to the top but DR will always have a special place in my heart
(Rest below the cut!)
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
Max and Daniel are one of my fave pairs cus they’re so silly together. Yuki and Pierre too. And underrated especially as they’re both gone now but I will always have a soft spot for Kimi and Antonio.
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
I’m in a Merc supporting family, Lewis is the fave of my mum and brother, however Fernando is Dad’s.
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
Monza 2019, Monza 2020 and Monza 2021. Just love the feeling those wins give ♥️ also Silverstone ‘23 cus I was there and it’ll always be special
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
If it wasn’t clear from the above, Monza. But I also like Sukuza
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
Silverstone last year! Was amazing, the atmosphere when Lando took the lead was unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced.
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
I have not :( but also idk if I’d want to, I’m sooo awkward I think I’d leave a terrible impression
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
The 2021 Gulf Livery McLaren and the Alpine car any time it’s pink
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
Estie and Pierre! Estie cus his race was phenomenal and Pierre cus his win was so emotional and deserved
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
I think I have to say Enjoy the Butterflies cus I literally have it permanently inked into my skin!! 🦋

My mother and I were talking about the greatest moments in italian sport and when I told her to rewatch Sukuza 2000 she answered "I can't, it brings a lump to my throat"
Nice to know that the tears for Schumi are hereditary

all of the f1 memes about europeans having to wake up at 6am for suzuka while my american ass has been waking up at 6 for just about every race this reason and sukuza's race is literally at 10pm to midnight for me.

I had a feeling that the W14 wouldn’t be good in Sukuza, it is what it is. But it is disheartening that they’ve been overtaken by a customer team twice in one season. It feels like Ferrari and McLaren have really begun to understand the car, and Mercedes have struggled, which doesn’t fill me with confidence for next year… but it is what it is, and hopefully I’m wrong. I just want Lewis and George to get the car they deserve.
it is what is, for sure. I really struggle to get too bogged down by the 'customer team' issue as well because... its an engine customer with their own spec car. It just shows the engine works fine, but they've got the aero wrong which... we all know? Merc has been beaten by customer team cars when they've had a good car in the past, so it's not really that troubling to me when they have a bad car. If it was a sister team beating them then that would be embarrassing.
Mercedes have fucked it this year and are stuck with a kind of hybrid of two concepts which is hurting them at some tracks, but even in their bad tracks they're not as terrible as some people are making out. They're terrible comparative to the w11 or even the w12, but not comparative to the rest of the grid.
McLaren only brought their 2023 car halfway through the season, so they haven't had a miracle silver bullet upgrade, they've basically just offset their upgrade schedule to everyone else, which gives them a great second half of the season, but they've got to get back, to having the car ready for the season start to have a chance of fully capitalising on it.
Merc are suffering with brain drain right now, but as it stands, there's still something to be taken from the fact that they're still largely hanging on in race trim, even if the odd race here or there isn't amazing. They may end up losing out on P2, and George's unfortunate number of DNFs across the season hasn't helped that as I'm sure he's all too aware, but 2 of those were mechanical and one wasn't exactly his fault, and Ferrari have had their own disasterclasses to contend with, but their uptick in performance is coming just at the right time to help them out.
I hope Merc can turn it around next year finally. They're not a complete lost cause, they just need to get their house in order.

Clearing up some Ricciardo Rumors™️
Over the last few weeks rumors have sprung up about Daniel Ricciardo, which is fair enough considering the lineup for the RB and Red Bull seats as well as the expectations of him, but I've done a bit more research to clear things up :)
Replaced at Miami? Apparently not.
The New Zealand Herald wrote an article that claimed "Ricciardo has been given an ultimatum" (tldr: if he doesn't perform in Japan and China he will be replaced by Liam Lawson) as well as other things like "Lawson is seen internally as Red Bull’s best option to partner world champion Max Verstappen long-term."
The source itself isn't too reputable since the NZ Herald hardly does F1 reporting to begin with, but also because it's clear they would be biased towards the kiwi driver (Lawson).
These claims have also since been disproven, first by F1 journalist Thomas Maher who reported "Sources say there are no plans to replace Daniel Ricciardo, from the Miami GP or later, with Liam Lawson," and also by Speedcafe, who put out an article saying "Trusted sources within Red Bull Racing, which has an overarching contract with Ricciardo, denied the rumours outright when approached by Speedcafe"
Liam's team have denied the allegations too, saying he hasn't been advised by Red Bull of any moves so I don't think it was intentional pressure but rather just bad journalism from the newsletter.
Helmut Marko has implied DR needs to be doing better, claiming both RBs are "too slow" and Ricciardo is "a bit behind,” but he's also said "Ricciardo needs a safe and confident car. I hope the team can give him that, so he can at least be on par with Yuki," indicating his dissatisfaction is less with the drivers and more with the car.
What about in Suzuka? Yes... but also no.
Daniel Ricciardo will miss FP1 as Red Bull junior driver Ayumu Iwasa takes his car for the practice session, but this is just because F1 teams are required to to bring in a rookie for at least 2 FP sessions a season. Usually teams do this a bit later but RB brought a rookie in earlier last year too, when they were still known as AlphaTauri.
So why not bring in Liam Lawson? Technically he's not a rookie anymore since he's driven in more than 2 GPs. That, and Iwasa is Japanese and it's the Japanese GP. Only makes sense to let him shine a bit in his home circuit.
So is he in danger of losing his seat?
As of now, it doesn't look like there's any plans to kick him out before his contract is finished. He clearly brings a lot of good PR to the team, as well as advice to improve the car. The team has also been admitting the car needs improvements, and there's much to be done. Ricciardo isn't too far behind Yuki's pace either, however he needs to be actively outperforming him if he wants to guarantee moving past the RB seat or even staying another season, since it's clear there's options Red Bull wants to explore.

Kruger National Park ( Sukuza ), South Africa — Today is our last full day in Kruger. We cannot belief what we have seen in this park. It’s really wowed us and the weather has been perfect too. Lots of Buffalo and giraffes today. We came upon an upset lone male elephant that got my heart racing as it chased us down the road. Chris was all calm cool and collected but I was like go faster!!! Spotted a Bateleur bird that was massive and four lions. Exhausted from many hours in the car, we had a nice dinner at the bistro before hitting the hay.

That TM is full of cowards, nothing new, next.
Not really valid criticism if you don’t explain why imo
This was intended more as a sorta inside joke w fate mutuals because they’ll immediately know what I’m talking about but you’re also right so here it goes:
Ereshkigal and Nergal are a married couple of Underworld deities in Sumerian mythology, a sorta reverse Hades and Persephone to mention a more commonly know pair. I’m not well versed in their story but from what I know she fiercely wanted him and after a rocky start they ruled together as equals.
A huge trend in Fate since GO became a thing (and because of its gacha system) has been changing heroes/deities known backstory or relationships to appeal to their massive otaku male fanbase and their fantasies.
A female character whose marriage or relationship is recognized in-universe suffers the risk of being perceived as “less pure” or “already taken” by the player base who see their fantasy/delusion of a love story with the self-insert mc/themselves and their chosen character squandered from the get go, thus risking the playable unit of said character making a ton less money for the company.
Both Ishtar and Ereshkigal are an egregious case of this, with Ereshkigal drawing the shortest stick.
Their physical appearances and personalities have been altered thanks to a “fusion” with a pre-existing franchise beloved heroine, mellowing their more fierce characters. And as for pre-existing relationships, Ishtar attraction to Gilgamesh has been downplayed and her husband appears as a fluffy gold sheep that looks like a child plushie (the most non-romantically threatening possible) and Ereshkigal’s marriage to Nergal has been straight up axed altogether.
And this is why I called the writers cowards.

Sakuya is the only magical girl who looks better in fan art than she does in her own official art.
Holy shit yes, Like...I don’t know what the hell they were thinking with that design of hers but...it is freaking scary...I wonder...is that....IN story? Is she supposed to look like a deformed homunculus? If so...why?
