For all the Sidlink fans upset about Sidon getting a fiance in TotK, I have an easy explanation/solution:
It’s a political marriage.
Sidon is royalty. He’s being crowned King. Royalty usually don’t get the privilege to marry for love, but rather need to do so in order to build political alliances and secure heirs. Mipha was able to consider proposing to Link officially because having the Champion of Hyrule as her consort would both strengthen their connections to what was the biggest political power in the area and be a great boon to Zora’s Domain in general, plus if they turned out to be biologically incompatible there was always Sidon for continuing the royal line.
Now, Sidon is the last in his line and trying to give his people a sense of stability while taking the throne amidst another huge upheaval. The kingdom of Hyrule is a shadow of what it once was, and Link himself was gone with no way of knowing if/when he’d return, as well as needing to spend his time/attention on all of Hyrule rather than the Zora specifically.
Meanwhile, Lady Yona is Zora royalty herself making her a good political match, she has qualities and skills that are well-suited to helping the people of Zora’s Domain, and she’s an old friend of Sidon’s which means they’ll probably get along pretty well. Marrying her as a political choice makes perfect sense. And Yona is a small enough character that we honestly aren’t given many indications that there’s more to their relationship than that- old friends who are marrying now to strengthen Sidon’s new reign.
That doesn’t mean Sidon is straight, or that he isn’t still in love with Link. And it doesn’t mean he can’t eventually pursue a relationship with Link, once things have settled down a bit. That sort of thing was pretty common with royalty historically (or at least for men- stupid patriarchy). In this case, Sidon and Yona could have arranged to have an open marriage, with both of them free to pursue matters of the heart outside of their political duties. Or at least, that’s how I’d write it if I was writing canon-compliant Sidlink.
So yeah, Sidlink as a ship is definitely not sunk, even if you do stay completely with canon. It just might look a little different. And I, for one, would love to see shippers play around with this new dynamic.

Ngl definitely thinking back to the cartoon-making chapter now we know that Twilight doesn't realise studying/pursuit of knowledge can be fun. No wonder the cartoon he made sucked. He was approaching it purely from the educational angle with zero idea of the entertainment aspect that makes edutainment programming effective.
It's not that he was really bad at writing the fun parts. He plain didn't realise there were meant to be any in the first place for it to work.
Copying the aesthetics with no understanding of what was underneath.

You ever think about how extremely traumatic the first two arcs of the Archie reboot would've been for all the characters?
They're just living their normal lives, when one day Sonic starts babbling about a completely different history where most of them were in extremely dire straits, and starts using Nicole to overwrite their extant memories with those of the previous universe.
Like, imagine being Sally in that situation. You come home from a dangerous but routine mission to find all your friends acting like you've just come back from the dead. They hand you your computer and suddenly your mind is filled with memories of a much different world to this one, a much darker and more painful one, filled with death and constant betrayal. Your last memories are now filled with weeks of watching your mechanised, vivisected body mindlessly serve your nemesis, and try to kill your friends and family. You were (probably) awake when Eggman carved you up with a blowtorch, while monologuing creepily about how smart you are, right before he crammed a cannon in where your brain should be. You almost died because Eggman designed your new form so badly that you ran out of power on your first mission as his pawn, only to be 'saved' by someone who loved you, and now doesn't exist.
But it's not just that. That would be bad enough. You also remember that this other version of you had a living mother. A mother who loved her and supported her and tried to be there for her. Yours has been dead since you were a child. You're still a child, but you've never felt less like one than you do right now. You had a brother too. He had a wife and a daughter, you had a niece and and a sister-in-law. They're gone. In fact, they're not just gone. They never existed. You have memories of people that never existed. All your friends apparently do. These other versions of them all had families. Here, they're all orphans, except for Rotor, who now remembers a world where his father wasn't an abusive bastard that serves Eggman out of some warped sense of social darwinism, something he can never have in this one.
On the other hand, your father, whom you know as a kind, generous, and reasonable man, was in this other world a controlling, emotionally abusive asshole, a major factor in a massive mental breakdown you endured and struggled with for months on end.
And then shortly afterwards, these memories begin to fade. Maybe you're okay with forgetting Mecha Sally. Maybe you're okay with forgetting that Nigel was ever Maximilian. But now you're also forgetting Alicia and Elias and Megan and Alexis, people who only existed in your memory. You won't remember how many people Eggman killed with the Super Genesis Wave. There will never be justice for them, and in a few short days, you won't even remember their names.

when characters express grief by incorporating traits from the person they've lost into their personality... by trying to fill the role the other person did in their family, their friend group, their team... everything from small things, 'growing up' and picking up turns of phrase, a taste for the same things; to making themselves into a living memorial of the departed, discarding aspects of themselves to make room for the emulation of the dead, the person they think that's needed more. bottom text

i think there's a danger in interpreting john winchester's actions under the false dichotomy of the "good abuser" and the "bad abuser." with the good abuser being driven by love, but led wayward by personal trauma or experience, while the bad abuser is driven by hatred, stymied by little as they are simply bad; simply hateful. that's not how abuse works. abusers are, as all humans are, shaped by experience and a product of their life on earth. now that abuse can be expressed in a myriad of ways, to varying extremes, and led by a multitude of motives. this can subsequently lead to a spectrum of variable impact on the abused. you can't really dichotomize abuse and its different forms. it's likely a more illuminating approach to understand abuse for its individual cases, its individual motives. false dichotomies imply a narrative that is much, much simpler than abuse could ever be

#258. Mudkip
Tumblr media
The fin on Mudkip's head acts as highly sensitive radar. Using this fin to sense movements of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes.
Colour and symbol charts can be found here.

A note on colours: in my experience, floss looks different irl than in online pattern makers. If you think a different colour will work better, go with your gut!

"I Wonder If You Think It's Safe Enough to Indulge Yourself"
(Fictober, Day 7)
*****
Phoebe Green. Fire.
The irony of two such oppositional elements combined in one destructive person-- nurture feeding nature, green-eyed monsters indulged with red hot passions-- had not been lost on Mulder. Perhaps he wasn't red-green colorblind in the strictest sense-- nojo on the rojo, that was a good one-- but his senses had failed him just enough to miss the glaring red flags, the forest for the Green. All that blazed was not a glow. All that grew did not produce.
But in the right hands, all that burned could be rebuilt. All that poisoned could be cured.
It required a discerning eye to find the right partner; and, though decades late with burn scars and thorn marks, Mulder knew now how to differentiate his colors.
*****
Thank you for reading~
Enjoy!

If you're still doing the three-sentence fairytale retelling thing: how about Bluebeard as a comedy of manners?
SETTING: Parlor in an elegant mansion. A large window overlooks a sunny rose garden.
BLUEBEARD, a young man of somewhere less than thirty, so-named for the cyan tint to his whiskers (it's a long story), stands before the window, speaking to ARTHUR, a man of about his age. A black cat with white paws sits on an armchair.
BLUEBEARD: It's very simple. Aunt Augusta doesn't know I'm married, so she's preparing a wedding for me. Genevieve, the chosen girl, showed up this morning with six bridesmaids. I couldn't send them away, so I've locked them safely away in one of the upstairs rooms.
ARTHUR: And your wife has the key?
BLUEBEARD: She has all the keys. But don't worry, I've already solved that problem. I've told Catherine to never, under any circumstances, open that door.
ARTHUR: [after a stunned silence] You, my friend, are doomed.
