Coming up with new characters is always fun but then actually trying to make their build is less fun because you go online and people always insist the best way to do it is Variant Human and I'm like... I'm not gonna do that, I don't care if it slows me down, just give me the Silver Medal options.
Like no I don't agree humans = boring (that would make me a hypocrite considering my stance on it in Mass Effect lmao) and there's a point to be made, with all these groups and powers, you're just... a guy.
But then mechanically it's kind of reversed since that free feat EVERYONE wants to do it.
Idk... if I can have horns or be very large or very small... I will probably take that.

Level Up Post: Mighty Nein: Echoes of the Solstice: The Speculation Version
DO NOT POST SPOILERS ON THIS IF YOU ARE AT THE LIVE SHOW IN PERSON. YOU WILL BE BLOCKED.
So here's the deal: I don't know what level they'll be (18-20), I am frankly assuming they level up in the first place (but like. why wouldn't they) and I'm going to have to make a bunch of assumptions, but here is a manageable-ish, I hope, summary, to be refined once we know more. Also: I'm assuming we've got Caduceus rather than Kingsley (I DO NOT KNOW THIS FOR SURE DO NOT RELY ON THIS BEING THE TRUTH) but I will make a Kingsley post if that is not the case (short answer - I'd recommend solely leveling up in blood hunter). As always with level-ups: if there is a significant omission or an error, please let me know. If I simply did not choose the same spell or feat you did, feel free to reply with "ooh nice, what about [spell]" but do not send me asks or get weird and sanctimonious about having different thoughts on subjective assessments. Anyway, here's the pre-show version; I'll make a new post Friday if appropriate.
Fjord: Let's get Mr. Complicated Tusktooth Stone Lavorre out of the way. He is currently Warlock 12/Paladin 5. Warlocks get a mystic arcanum at level 13 (7th level spell once per day) as well as another known spell for regular casting, a subclass feature at 14 (Master of Hexes for Fjord, which allows him to move his hexblade's curse from creature to creature if the first dies), and a mystic arcanum (8th level) and another invocation and another spell at 15. Paladins, meanwhile, get Aura of Protection (+CHA mod, so 5, to all saving throws to himself and all allies within 10 feet) at level 6, a subclass feature at 7 (Aura of Liberation - he and allies within 10 feet cannot be grappled or restrained, can use 5 feet of movement to get out of prior restraints [THIS WOULD HELP BEAU IF SHE SHOWS UP CHAINED BTW], and ignore penalties to underwater attacks) as well as another L2 spell slot, and an ASI at 8; his lay on hands pool also scales up by 5 HP per level. My personal feeling is: for the next level, take paladin level 6, which gives him and anyone within the aura +5 to all saves so long as he is not incapacitated; paladin auras are ridiculously good and every day I wish someone would play paladin straight through in CR, for me, much as I adore Fjord and Vax's dips into it. For his 19th level, I'd either take paladin 7 for the aura of liberation, or take warlock 13, which grants the mystic arcanum of which I'd take Etherealness, probably, or possibly Forcecage; the clerics can handle Plane Shift, and Finger of Death seems off-brand. He also gets another regular spell of which there are many; Contact Other Plane might not work under these conditions so I'm leaning towards Dream, which is just a great weird spell few people take, but also he could take a low level spell given he has paladin spell slots. And for 20th, take the one he didn't take for 19, for a final 13 Warlock/7 Paladin split.
Beau: Much more straightforward in comparison...but let's talk about the leveling up process. Level 18 grants Empty Body, in which she can spend 4 ki to be invisible for 1 minute and resistant to all damage other than force damage, or she can spend 8 ki to cast astral projection on herself alone, which is just hilarious and great and I would like to see it. She also increases her speed to 60 feet. Level 19 is an ASI/Feat; her stats are great so I say take Mobile because it's funny to make her normal speed 70 feet/round, or mage slayer for obvious narrative and "Beau, don't you want to pull a Cerrit on Ludinus" reasons. The capstone monk level kind of sucks (4 ki points back if she's tapped when rolling for initiative) but I don't have a good multiclass for her in mind so may as well ride it out. And of course she gets a ki point per level.
Caleb: Perhaps the only person for whom level 18 is actually fun (other than the multiclassed characters), at level 18 he gets to pick a 1st and 2nd level wizard spell in his spell book that he can cast at will. He can exchange these, but it requires 8 hours of study, so probably what he has going in to this show is what he has for the show. 19 is again a Feat/ASI, and honestly a con or dex boost never hurts a wizard. Level 20 gives him two 3rd level spells in his spellbook that he can cast once per rest (long or short) without using a spell slot. Might I suggest counterspell as one of them? And both he and the clerics gain extra high level spell slots at each level (5th, 6th, and 7th at levels 18, 19, and 20 respectively).
Veth: So she is actually trickier than Fjord, as the multiclassed character, in that I'm less sure how to split it out, but we'll go through the options: Level 17 in rogue grants her the ability to temporarily steal spells from another spellcaster who attacks her (Spell Thief) which is GREAT and she should definitely take it. Level 18 is Elusive; as long as she is not incapacitated, attack rolls cannot have advantage on her. And Level 19 is an ASI/Feat and an increase in sneak attack dice and also grants her a fourth level spell slot and new spell to go with it, which must be enchantment or illusion; Greater Invisibility seems like the obvious choice. I'd take the ASI to INT. On the other hand, if she pursues more wizard levels, Level 2 would give her a subclass and its features and another 1st level spell slot (and 2 more spells), Level 3 would give her 2nd level wizard spells and corresponding spell slots (and again, 2 more spells in her spellbook), and Level 4 is an ASI/Feat, a cantrip, and another 2nd level spell slot. I say take L17 in rogue first, then get a wizard subclass (transmutation does seem obvious for a number of reasons though abjuration, illusion, and divination have better L2 features and illusion makes narrative sense - divination would simply be hilarious), then take her final level in rogue for Elusive; but with both Veth and Fjord I think there's an obvious level to take (L17 rogue for Veth, L6 paladin for Fjord) and after that I respect Sam and Travis to pick what feels right.
Jester and Caduceus: At level 18, they can channel divinity 3 times per rest rather than 2. At level 19, they take ASIs, which honestly are up in the air for me - I'm excited to see what they pick, though @captainofthetidesbreath suggested Eldritch Adept for Jester which I would enjoy, and we haven't seen Caduceus's feat from the final episode yet which means I'm not sure about what he might take as a new one, though I'm personally always a fan of Chef. And at L20 divine intervention is guaranteed (though you can only use it once per week)...but to be honest if they are level 20, I am expecting this to be nerfed for solstice reasons because it is kind of game-breaking.
Yasha: So here's the thing. Barbarian 18-19 is kind of eh and 20 is good but not amazing. She could take it; she'd get indomitable might at 18 (treat any strength check as her strength score, 18, if she rolls lower than that), an ASI/Feat at 19, and her strength and con jump up by 4 each (and can exceed 20) - this would put her at 18 CON and 22 STR, assuming she doesn't increase either with the ASI (and to be fair I would take the ASI to strength). This is solid and entirely valid as a choice. HOWEVER, might I suggest the Grog move of taking her final three levels in fighter, which would give her a fighting style and second wind at L1, action surge at L2, and an archetype and its 3rd level features at L3. I like how Battle Master feels for Yasha but really it's that action surge that makes this great; Rune Knight or Champion are also decent options.

Fig did so much damage in the Last Stand and is just straight up just powerful
with an excellent choice of magical secrets (counterspell, fireball, find greater steed, spirit guardians), powerful smites, and Hexblade (which allows her to use CHA for attack rolls, medium armor, and Hexblade curse)
It's just that she has rolled semi poorly
I feel like I can't roll over a 5 and she is doing massive damage without any effort it's amazing

making a campaign where the premise is it's LANCER but-
it's the dawn of civilizations as we know it in a fantasy universe. A massive conflict has several celestial, infernal and even unaligned gods and their favorite creations battling Demons. Mechs are weapons designed by the gods to fight one another, [they call them Hexblades] but with the advent of Demons, they've been repurposed to be used by their mortal followers to slam-dunk the Demons straight into the Abyss to restore some semblance of peace. I am looking into renaming the big four for the setting and already see Harrison Armory as Hemesh Arsenal, a conglomerate of Dao, Efreeti, Azer and the Nine Hells, a literal Burning Crusade of disciplined [if evil] Hexblade pilots and their terrifying array of literally flaming war machines. SSC, I envision as Seldarine Starchild Corps, a proto-elven sect of the classically 'Elven' gods, and their sleek, stylish battlecraft. I'm entirely ready to saddle HORUS as just... it's Horus and his pantheon, and all their humanoid followers. A huge, disjointed conglomerate of neutral and [very old] divinities that rarely agree, but all want to curbstomp Demons. Nothing so far for IPS-Northstar, there's probably something I've overlooked/forgotten. now, it's not the big four, but General Massive Systems is just same name, run by Giant gods and their giant peoples. Fully prepared for the option for pilots in this to be size 1, as they're not going to be humans, and in many cases might be weird elementals, angels, devils, giants and just straight-up dragons. Wont say no to making them also humans, just you have far more options. I have no intentions of adjusting any other parts of the stats of anything, pilot or otherwise beyond that.

I mean it's a fact that Bards in 5e kick ass (the 5e Bard is by far my favorite interpretation of the classes besides 4e) but even I was surprised to discover that they're potentially the best counterspellers in the game simply by virtue of counterspelling higher level spells being a straight up ability check and Bards getting to add half their proficiency bonus on any ability check that doesn't already have it
And if you're willing to multiclass around (Hexblade Warlock, of course) and add Sentinel and Mage Slayer into the mix you can make an inescapable nuisance that will make your GM hate you for shutting down all enemy spellcasters

legendary hinoka sure is a cool unit
Tumblr media
armor effectiveness, true damage based on speed, and if she outspeeds then foe cannot counterattack making it pretty safe for her to dive most things with her high speed.
plus with deadeye she pierces damage reduction and should easily clear out any far save unit
wait what the hell
welcome to duo winter byleth, the newest most unkillable thing around.
now let's find out why the two byleths didn't die to one of the fastest and most dangerous nukes around.
first, before this combat their duo skill was used
Tumblr media
this duo skill is probably the most straight forward part of this kit. it grants to unit and allies within two spaces:
- visible def/res +6
- svalinn shield (neutralizes armor effectiveness)
- 80% damage reduction for aoe specials
- hexblade status (calculates damage using lower of foe's def/res)
however, use of this skill actually wasn't necessary as the winter byleths live even through legendary hinoka's armor effective attacks
Tumblr media
god sometimes this game feels like unstoppable force vs immovable object
the duo byleth's have weaving fighter as their b slot skill which is their source of damage reduction in this combat (because special is not charged)
Tumblr media
very dense skill description let's break it down:
- somewhat negligible atk/def -4 debuff on foe in combat
- effectively defensive null follow up (as the duo byleths are too slow to ever be doubling on their own)
- 40% damage reduction on foe's attack UNLESS foe has offensive half null follow up or full null follow up, then it is 80% damage reduction on first hit (including brave hits) and 40% on follow up.
- 7 hp healing after combat
this damage reduction is entirely pierceable however legendary hinoka can only pierce the damage reduction when her deadeye special triggers. due to her ability to make a follow up attack, her 79 damage is reduced by 80% (79*0.2=15.8) and she only deals 16 damage.
but wait a minute... l!hinoka had her special charged at the beginning of combat... and with her absurd speed the duo byleths shouldn't be able to counter attack...
well the byleths have some really fun effects in their prf weapon, holy yule blade
Tumblr media
another... dense... description...
well here are all the fun effects
- accelerates special cd
- +5 all stats (except spd) in combat
- additional bonus to all stats (except spd) in combat based on 20% of visible res
- offensive half tempo (unaffected by foe's skills that reduce unit's special charges)
- a super scowl type effect against foe's with damaging specials that trigger in combat. increases foe's special cd by an amount equal to amount of spaces moved up to 3 if unit wins res check (cannot be increased beyond maximum) however, when savior effect triggers value is treated as 3 regardless of foe's movement.
(i.e a unit with 1 cd on bonfire and moves 1 space before attacking has value increased to 2 before first attack)
- built in null c disrupt (ignores effects that prevent unit's counterattacks in combat) against ranged foes
these effects increase hinoka's deadeye charge from already charged to maximum cooldown (2) before her first attack. it also nullifies her weapon effect that prevents foe's counter attacks, which is why she dies after her first hit.
ofc the winter byleth's aren't completely unkillable but it sure does feel like it at times
Tumblr media
haha . get pranked .

Bells Hells C2 Class Swap AU
Basically just giving the Hells the same class as their player's Campaign 2 characters and getting a bit different approaches to the plot beats.
Orym: School of Divination Wizard
Divination goes with Orym's ridiculous perception
He specifically chose to learn divination magic in order try to foresee and forewarn if an attack against Zephrah is coming
He's also very upset that his divinations have had trouble turning up anything about Will and Derrig's killers
Fearne: Path of the Storm Herald Barbarian
Obviously her Storm Aura is desert, because that's the fire barbarian
She uses a great sickle like Deni$e since she does have a Moon Sickle in canon
Fearne is probably a bit more like Lionel in that she's a happy, excited barbarian most of the time. Of course her "always got for the kill" policy means she gets vicious when serious.
Probably also prone to a lot more headbutting as an attack given her goat-like nature as a faun and melee fighter class
Laudna: Way of Shadow Monk
She's always had an affinity for shadows and spookiness, so this subclass fits.
Also Witchy Bitches magic through ki ability
Delilah is still around, but definitely more as a haunting spirit and unwanted advisor, since there's no warlock multi-class. Maybe she grants Way of the Long Death abilities because of the whole necromancer patron thing, though a multi-subclass is probably overpowered
Imogen: Order Domain Cleric
Obviously, Imogen has no clue where her divine gifts come from (it's Predathos/being Ruidusborn)
Order Domain because it's whole deal is mind fuckery to bring people into your sense of order (which also matches with Ruby Vanguard cult shit)
Maybe a slight reflavor that it's not a sense of order she's imposing, but a sense of blackmail from mindreading
Chetney: Hexblade Warlock/Oath of the Ancients Paladin
Oath is about toymaking and bringing joy and light to children (so his god is the All Hammer since that's the crafting god)
Also not that great at Kindle the Light because he's a bitter, crotchety old man. Mercy and forgiveness have sort of fallen off the menu
Fighting Style is Dueling, 'cause he wants to shank a bitch with bonus damage
Definitely looking forward to the day he gets powerful enough to not suffer the drawbacks of old age (Level 15) 😝
Look, the little man uses carving tools as his weapon of choice, it had to be Hexblade
His patron is some sort of wolf-ish Krampus-equivalent, for punishing the Naughty. It just goes with his Christmas Special origins
Pact of the Chain for a wolf familiar. Though it's probably not a normal wolf...
FCG: Mastermind Rogue/School of Enchantment Wizard
Mastermind rogue could actually be used for therapy, if your intent is to manipulate someone into being their better self instead of doing whatever you want them to do
Also the mimic speech patterns is how FCG ended up with their accent in canon, so...
Plus ability to spam the Help action as a bonus action, and this bot wants to be helpful!
Honestly, School of Enchantment is more support and mind fuckery skills for them
This version is just very magic-enhanced therapy focused
Which also kind of lines up with the Care and the Culling background of manipulatively helpful to get in close before driving in the knife
Ashton: Order of the Lycan Blood Hunter (reflavor)/Forge Domain Cleric/ Phantom Rogue (reflavor)
Taliesin technically has 3 character from C2: Mollymauk, Caduceus, and Kingsley, bringing 3 different classes to the table between them, so options to mix and match for multi-class or just go straight
Order of the Lycan is the blood hunter subclass closest to barbarian. Though I'd give it the dunamancy reflavor of amplifying Ashton's elemental power/heritage/potential, so the hybrid form is basically going earth elemental, while the heightened senses maybe get replaced with a Blind Sight or an earth vibration Perception check ability with advantage
Fighting Style is Dueling, because their hybrid elemental form is big/strong enough to wield the hammer one-handed. Play whack-a-mole for bonus damage! 😂
Honestly considered War Domain because they're a fighter, but found I liked Forge Domain for being a bit more elemental. Dash of dunamancy is that he's an earth genasi with growing potential for fire magic, thus crossing an elemental boundary. Basically, they're going from pure earth to volcano.
Also, Forge Domain fits his love for punk handicrafts, and is definitely a domain that can be picked up in Bassuras
God would probably be the All-Hammer because he's the crafting god.
Though an argument could be made for unwitting Luxon follower, as it reaches through time for its galaxy brain chosen one. Ashton just thinks they believe in the light of the stars or some shit
Phantom rogues draw on the souls of the dead, so I reflavor this as drawing on their other possible lives in the galaxy brain. There's always a version that knows something relevant when they're infinite possibilities 😉
I recommend cleric and one of the other two classes if you want multi-class. Just rogue or blood hunter for a singular class as the cleric-dunamancy connection I cooked up is a bit weak
Some Events/Points of Interest
Chet actually was a werewolf, once upon a time. But he got cured of it, and that led him to one of his classes, depending on if it was a kind savior (paladin) or making deal to lift the curse (warlock). And he respects and remembers that time of his life with his Pact familiar
Thanks to his divination skills, Orym probably had a good feeling about what was coming the day he met the Crown Keepers, and the day he met the rest of Bells Hells. And a bad feeling the day Bertrand died, and the day he faced Otohan (both in Zephrah and Bassuras)
If Ashton is a blood hunter, Orym definitely has thoughts and extreme curiosity about their hybrid form. Which he can't be blamed for because he's Ashari
Imogen was considered a useful problem in Gelvaan, because her psychic/mindreading abilities were off-putting, but her healing abilities as a cleric are, well, "god-sent." Smaller towns are always grateful to have magic healing available and all
FCG is more pushy about his therapy attempts. And more subtle in execution, as they feel the need. He just really wants to help everyone's mental state, and is too inexperienced to quite understand when he needs to back off for a while
Laudna takes advantage of her oddly pliable body to move in strange ways for her dope monk shit. Like, she's very flexible to the point of accidental joint dislocation, so people aren't always ready for the ways she can move
And Laudna can fit herself into some tiny spaces because of the way she can fold herself up. Sometimes Imogen would sneak her into town in a large bag while it was just the two of them
Fearne takes protecting Orym very seriously (because he's a squishy wizard in this AU), but it can be tricky in a fight given her area-of-effect Storm Aura damage. There were definitely a few times Orym got singed pretty good at the beginning of their relationship

i’m doing it i’m doing it DND CLASSES FOR THE WARRIOR NUNS
you will laugh initially but LISTEN - Mother Superion is a bard. she’s a battlefield control champ with a bit of healing (a BIT) and before you think ‘she would not fucking etc. etc.’ consider this - she’s a College of Whispers bard. it is creepy as fuck. she gets in ur head, she deals psychic damage. she’s out here main casting confusion, hold person, mass suggestion, geas. dissonant whispers to give you a nosebleed with a goddamn look. a bard is about swag in any colour scheme and MS is out there wearing black and making you haemorrhage without touching you.
real quick on yas and michael. LOOK i want to make yas a cleric or a druid but i am loathe to give her a high wisdom score. my girl has no sense of direction. so i’m going to make her a wizard purely because it happens every campaign. your wizard has no spells your wizard is trapped in a small room with a melee fighter your wizard is FUCKED. your wizard somehow beats the fucking shit out of that dude and walks out with three missing teeth and a shit-eating grin. this is the yas arc. so, wizard. BIG on utility. i could even see her as an artificer honestly like a bit of artillerist or she could have a metal wolf i wouldn’t stop her. michael is a barbarian but he’s the totem of the bear so when he rages he takes half damage from everything except psychic damage. champ.
cam is a rogue. she’s rogue-coded. she’s a little guy with a hand crossbow. assassin OR perhaps actually a bit of arcane trickster. message, mage hand, a bit of prestidigitation but she’s read the RAW (rules-as-written) and she is exploiting the fuck out of that cantrip. she is dealing 8d6 sneak attack damage and using a feat to shoot again with her bonus action. or you’ve been sneak attack damaged x2 because surprise and so you are dead and she’s bonus action hiding w her sneak ability modifier of +14.
don’t argue lilith is a hexblade warlock. what the fuck else? she’s your archetypical Gish rocking a longsword and fuck it i’m just going to give her magic initiate or something so she can have the primal savagery cantrip for the claws and the teeth. she’s pact of the blade. i can and will have her be a paladin base and multi class into warlock to make an overpowered mess of a stat block but she’s maining charisma and she got constitution to the roof tiles. her eldritch invocations are devil’s sight, agonizing blast, armour of shadows. Eventually I wanna say master of myriad forms just because alter self straight-up slaps and I want lilith to do whatever she wants (god forbid women)
shannon is a paladin. classic paladin exactly like the one my mom always insists on playing and she too forgets she has any spells except hunter’s mark and smites but she’s the only reason the party is alive her AC is 19 from the get-go her fighting style is defence +1 ac and she’s got the sentinel feat. sword and shield or shield and morningstar. poured all her point-buy into strength and con but acts like she’s got an intelligence score of 25 at the table. genuinely the most likely to make the dm tear their hair out bc she wants to talk to every NPC and she’ll fully encourage everyone else to do the stupidest shit
mary has me conflicted. on the one hand she’s an obvious pick for artificer but i dislike that class & mary is too precious to me SO instead let’s give her that sexy sexy gunslinger fighter subclass. yeah she made you homebrew guns into your setting no she isn’t sorry about it. took close-range fighting style so she can be ANYWHERE on the battlefield and hand people their asses. she can snipe but she has a tendency to rush into rooms, immediately trigger all the traps, and then laugh her ass off while climbing out of the pit of spikes like that painting of the naked woman coming out of the well. sometimes the traps set her on fire and she refuses to use her action to put it out. she WILL sacrifice her action bonus action movement argue w/ the DM over what counts as a free action if ANYBODY gets dropped to 0 and is making death saves. fully does not care who has healing word she will book it to her fallen comrades, action surge the shit out of her turn because ‘in this life!!!’
now. ava is obviously i don’t take criticism she is Obviously a wild magic sorcerer. my girl is out here using tides of chaos to get advantage on stupid fucking rolls like she’ll use it to win drinking games or to charm the lock into opening or to tie a guard’s bootlaces together and then in the middle of a fight she’ll roll a 7 or 8 on a d100 and cast fireball centred on herself. sometimes she breaks the fourth wall and the spotify playlist of ‘dnd fight music’ will play out of nowhere and the party is just so used to it they don’t even bother to prod at the fraying fabric of the universe. ava wants all the fire spells she’s got fire bolt she’s got shocking grasp she definitely has minor illusion AND mage hand doesn’t care if there are better utility cantrips (aside from prestidigitation not really anyway mage hand is aha your too sexy!!). she will not multi class she wants those high levels spells we’re talking dimension door, fireball, FUCKING FLY (she twin spells fly on her and bea and most days will waste all her 3rd and 4th level spell slots on 10 minutes of what she calls ‘we stay silly time’). but also she had a surprisingly high int score so she learns how to ritual cast and learns alarm and conjure steed and a bunch of good utility spells and it makes bea So Proud. just wait until she learns Animate Objects and can fuck up enemies beauty and the beast style. ava as sorcerer is bespoke. send tweet.
bea. i’m so emotional. i want to make her a blade singer wizard so bad. BUT i think her int modifier better serves rogue. along with dex she can have dual short swords she can use a longbow she can dagger dagger dagger (i’m giving her boots of haste because i love her). but i’m multi classing her with gloom stalker ranger. hands down the best ranger & thematically so so sexy. assassin rogue with three levels in gloom stalker. yes my soul wants to give bea magic but RESIST because she’s cool as she is she’s surrounded by magic users and YET she is still the MVP of any fight. she has dark vision she has sneak attack you bet ur ass she is meticulously planning how to get surprise in every encounter and she does. typical rogue sneaks ahead of the party and dispatches 7 enemies by herself. bonus action dash/ hide but also loves her team because sneak attack loves an ally within 5feet. guys she’s terrifying ava loves casting haste on her and watching her just go batshit. she’ll use uncanny dodge every damn turn if she had to she automatically halves the damage off ava’s self-combustion wild magic bullshit. ava can cast fireball right next to her and bea will succeed the FUCK out of that dex save and take no damage.
(these nuns are making me worse every day but there u go dnd classes for my babies)

The Mighty Nein Reunited, Part 2: U'kotoa Unleashed
Matt: "What the fuck happened at this table?" We're with you Matt. What the fuck is Travis wearing? Most of the others have lucked out but Travis, poor Travis ... oh dear ... Sam this plug is abysmal. It's hilarious it's so bad, but ... it's still BAD.
Sam: "This one's a normal!" Oh boy ... and Laura's adorable enthusiasm at the mention of Backblaze is so sweet ...
Okay, here we go, and once again the return of that wonderful intro! :3
Man this makes me so nervous, I mean the fact that we had happy endings for everybody at the end of Campaign 2 but now anything could happen ... I mean if anybody dies tonight? Oh fuck I'm not ready for this ...
Oh shit that giant is WAY too big and oh fuck it's STRAIGHT INTO INITIATIVE!!! Help!
Kingsley up first and WHAT THE HELL is going on with that sword? I mean I know Bloodhunter but still ... oooh, 5 temporary hit points! Stealthing ... sneaky sneaky ...
Sam: "Boy oh boy, Taliesin, this is a lot of words." No shit. Wow, Taliesin struggling with character mechanics is such a novelty it's kind of fascinating.
Marisha is STRAIGHT INTO perching on her chair and it's adorable. XD Matt: "The bob-bobs?" Marisha: "The bob-bobs at those two little pissants."
Sam doing a Caleb impression as he's describing Veth doing magic ... :3 oh, and that spell is NICE, beautiful results. Veth tries to stealth and Sam rolls balls, but due to advantages STILL manages to score 27. XD
FOUR ELDRITCH BLASTS?!!! Holy fuck ... Hahaha I love Hexblade's Curse. XD
Storm Giant's turn ... uh-oh ... I'm sorry, 29 STRENGTH?!!! The temple is FUCKED. Definitely.
Ashley: "Okay, I'd like to rage." Cue appreciative barbarian noises from Travis ... the Scaldsaber? Oooh ... oh, and it's SHINY!!! That is sweet.
Jester is casting Earthquake? With Veth right behind the temple? Please be careful ... and Veth is just flicking through her camp guidebook in panic. Lots of nonsense talk about mushrooms ...
Dexterity throws and EVERYBODY HAS TO BEAT 19?!!! Veth and Kingsley succeed but Yasha fails ... oops! 12 damage halved to 6 across the board because Yasha's raging so it's the same ... oh dhit and now the giant has FALLEN ON TOP OF YASHA?!!! Massive ouch now ... O.O
Mage is diving in the hole ... Fjord Counterspells! Nice! He still goes in the hole but faceplants with a Wile E. Coyote noise! XD
Caleb's Stormrider boots ... he scorches that arse with lightning! Nice! The party are duly appreciative. Ooh, AND Disintegration damage? 76 points of damage? Ashley: "Oooh!" Laura: "That's wizard shit!" Caleb: "Wild out!"
Creature misses it's attack on Beau, Marisha decides to use her crazy cool monk shit to react and she KICKS HIS ARSE!!! Nice!
Natural 20 for Kingsley! Double damage so he deals plus sneaky attack so he deals out 51 POINTS OF DAMAGE IN ONE HIT!!! Meanwhile SNACKS!!! Yum! XD Secong hit another 16 points of damage and HOW IS IT NOT ALREADY DEAD?!!!
Beau goes for the mage and jumps in the hole? Ballsy ... Slow Fall! Nice! Matt: "Go monk shit!"
Oh shit yeah I forgot about the sun sigils! Watch out for that shit!
15 feet away? Nuts ... no cool monk attack, then. Oh, here we go ... cool sonic attack from the staff! 13 points of damage! Sweet!
Sam enquires if Yasha being pinned under the giant means she's in melee with it ... AND IT DOES?!!! Hilarious!
Brenatto's Voltaic Bolt? Whoa ... and because she's hidden it hits despite the giant being prone ... oh boy, and Veth just ANNIHILATED its balls ... >.<
Veth jumps in yhe hole to back Beau up ... oh shit, there's SNAKES!!! EEEEEEEEEE!!!
Fjord casts Fly on himself ... Relentless Hex! Nice! And now he's used his action already so he can't attack?
Jester rolls a Nat 20 on request and somehow that mean the ground doesn't just give out under her ... but it gives out under everybody else? Seriously?
And now everybody but Jester and Kingsley is in the hole along with Beau and Veth and the mage ...
Laura (in Jester voice): "Uh, DM, I'm still up here next to the tree, please don't forget about me!"
New battle map ... Travis: "Oooh, he's got extra pieces!" And there's snakes raining from stove too! Shit!
Yasha bamfs out her wings and pounces on the giant ... or not because bamfing her wings us sn ACTION!!! Oops! So she unleashes a Battle Cry to give everybody advantage instead!
Jester is STUCK now because she doesn't see what's going on ... okay she goes to Kingsley instead and holds her spell until his turn do they can jump in! Smart in a really clumsy way! XD
Caleb is PRONE. Oof ...
Mage is going to Dimension Door and Fjord sacrifices another Counterspell to beat him! So the mage just starts RUNNING instead ...
Travis: "This area of the map seems different ... it's made of PUDDING!!!"
Caleb is doing Wizard stuff but holding it for Beau to hit the mage ... no fancy name this time znd Sam takes issue with the lack of flare. Liam (in Caleb voice): "EFFICIENCY!!!"
Jester jumps in with Kingsley ONTO THE GIANT'S HEAD!!!
Kingsley attacks the mage and gets foiled! Nuts!
Marisha attacks the giant and gets 13 points of damage in! Spends 3 ki points to open up a vulnerability on him, then moves onto the mage and opens up another csn if whoopass on him too ... Flurry of Beaus? Ooooooooh ... 14 points of damage? Nice ... but the Stunning Strike misses. Nuts ...
Caleb incinerates the already dead creature but gets 17 fire damage on the giant. Okay ...
Sam: "This is more action I've had since ... I don't know, Insert Joke Here!"
40 points of damage from Veth's crossbow on the giant and she gets the HDYWTDT right between its eyes! Nice!
Bonus she shoots the mage in the buttocks too!
Fjord gets 30 points on the mage on his first hit! Oooh ... then he lands another ... fuck, I can't even ADD UP all that, it's just a ridiculous amount of damage ...
Yasha takes up Sentinel on the mage and JUST gets past its Shield ... Ashley does damage maths ... 49 on the first attack? Ouch ... then another 23 ... another HDYWTDT?!!! Noice! She just DECAPITATES that fucker ...
Just one fish guy left ... and a FUCKLOAD of snakes ...
Jester gets 19 points of damage on that last fish guy ...
Veth: "In an earthquake you're supposed to get in a bathtub." Jester: "I thought it was supposed to be in a fire." Veth: "Well I wrote the guidebook, so ..."
Caleb misses his attack ... and all the other incapacitated fish guys jump in? What?
One of them's got the crystal! Shit! Something's lighting up in the temple ... it's a temple to Zehir, U'kotoa's creator and ultimate jailer!
The final seal is broken! Oh shit! Something's coming ... all the snakes are now converging on them!
Fjord creates a gate to help them escape ... and Matt uses the malevolent power in the place to veto it and shuts the spell down IMMEDIATELY?!!! Not cool!
Okay, how the hell do they get out now?
Fjord tries to communicate with the effigy of Zehir ... and the god talks back? Oh, and it REALLY don't like Fjord ...
Matt (chuckling): "Make an intimidation check ... against a Betrayer God!"
Zehir demands a pact ... oh, that can't be good. One of them must bear his mark ... for as long as he has interest in them? Oh, and Kingsley's just gonna go for it? Really? After Lucien?
Fjord decides he won't let anyone else do this ... oh no, this is so bad ...
Oh, now this whole process is just DEEPLY unpleasant ... choose what to do? What are the choices? Oh shit, there's a sword now ... not this again ...
Ooooooh, a rapier, nice ... The Fang of the Spire King? That I'd frickin HARDCORE, man ...
Wait, he's giving it to Kingsley? What the hell? What does this even mean?
The sense of dread is gone ... somewhere south in the Lucidian, U'kotoa is loose ... of course he is. That's, like, par for the course ...
Fjord: "Snakes! Aud us in our ascension!" Yeah, they're not having it ...
Oooh ... Darktow ... go to Darktow ...
Jester's overly excited by the idea of the Plank King ... Fjord: "Let me see your DMs!"
She sends a message to the Plank King ... oh, he's having none of it either. He REALLY doesn't like her, does he?
Okay, back to Nicodranas, then. Caleb ports them all back.
There's rumours of a dark storm brewing ... oh no, that's not good at all. Lots of dark prophetic visions too ... ugh ... trouble's coming, then.
Set up the ship tonight, then. Best do that, then.
Drensala Vis. Nice shit, sounds like ... Captain Adella? Oh yeah! Yeah, we remember her. Oh, and apparently she's totally up for this too. Well this is gonna be EASY then.
Go now or a night's rest?
Caleb goes to see Yussa, looking for aid or supplies, whatever might be available. What on earth has he even got ... whoa, that's A LOT of Potions!
Bluud furnishes them with a charcuterie board ... or a "meat plate" as he puts it. It's a bit of a weird situation. But he forgot the wine ... oh, never mind, Veth and Beau have booze ...
Jester wants milk ... Veth: "You could milk me!" The group is suitably grossed out ...
Jester messages her mother ... tells her to go stay with The Gentleman to be safe. She turns down the idea if the Gentleman, but goes to friends instead. Veth gets her to message Yeza with a warning too, sends him off on a camping trip with the campers for safety.
Kingsley asks Yasha and Beau about Molly ... oh boy ... yeah, this is getting heavy again and this music is NOT HELPING ... now THAT is interesting, Kingsley considers Molly snd Lucien to be his parents and so he's determined to do BETTER than either of them did. Yeah, this sounds smart.
Everybody gets a ling night's rest ... and then they wake up to chaos, it seems. Oof, this is looking MESSY. U'kotoa is definitely fucking things up out there ...
Setting sail into hell, then ... yeah, that sounds like a proper bloody battle out there ... and there's something BIG out there ...
And now we're on the break. Of course we are ...
Second half, then ... and they're on the way ... a triangular ocean battle map? Okay then, this ain't foreboding at all ...
Fjord casts Underwater Breathing on everyone. Nice ...
Oh gods ... Veth has fashioned a pretty decent Fluffernutter ... yeah, that can't be a good thing at all, can it?
IS THAT music copywritable? Isn't it old timey?
Oh shit, giant sea serpent! Not good! Not good!
Jester is trying to Control Weather against a demigod monster that can control the weather ... Nat 20? Hmmmmmm ... okay, so it KIND OF works pretty well considering ...
Veth casts INTELLECT FORTRESS on Fjord? WTF?
Matt's having superglue problems ...
Fjord is flying again, it would seem. Yasha wants to use effects to pep everybody up but none of them last very long ... hmmmm ...
Uh oh ... U'kotoa's talking now. ALSO not good ...
And now there are THINGS in the water ... whoa, those ate just ... AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! That headpiece is TERRIFYING!!!
Roll initiative!
Bollocks ... U'kotoa goes first. That's so very bad ... and he has Lair Actions apparently ... oof ...
Tidal Wave? Crap ... 250 feet tall? SERIOUSLY?!!! Fjord is knocked prone as he's FLYING?!!! How does yhat even work? EVERYBODY is getting knocked prone and taking 45 points of bludgeoning damage! Not good at all! Oh wait, Yasha DOESN'T get knocked prone! All righty then ...
Anger of the Storm? And it's electric-based ... wait, what did that even DO?!!!
Fjord tries to hit one of the coils in the eye ... and MAKES IT!!! 22 points if slashing damage and Hexblade's Curse! Noice ...
Travis: "Daddy got a tattoo! Daddy got a tattoo and a midlife crisis!"
Fjord takes 19 points if bludgeoning damage and 5 points of acid damage ... and he's GRAPPLED by the tentacle on the coil. Ugh ...
Kingsley has to STAND UP in order to do anything ... Blood Maladict for Fire? Hmmm ... and with the new sword, too ... 20 points if piercing damage and 6 points of fire damage, then another 18 on the second strike and Brand of Castigation? Ooooooooh ...
Beau is pulling a Naruto and she's GETTING ON THE HEAD!!! Bloody hell ... she goes straight for the eyeball ... Stunning Strike? No, it's immune to Stun. Of course it is. Still, 10 damage. Second hit, another 13 damage. FLURRY OF BLOWS and Extract Aspects! Oh, so this thing is ... whoa, that's A LOT of immunities ...
Yasha would like to rage again (cue Travis grunting in appreciation again). Whoa ... and she is swinging nothing but misses right now. Ouch ...
U'kotoa tries to grab her and fails MISERABLY ...
Czleb chugs a healing Potions to get 26 hit points back ... hits thd boots znd shoots up in the dky, appears to turn into a crazy big blue fucking DRAGON!!! Travis: "Damn!" And Mstt has just the mini for the job, too! XD
Veth stays prone but shoots one of the eyes ... Nat 20! Ooof! 81 POINTS of piercing damage? Holy fuck! And apparently that REALLY HURT too ...
Jester casts Dawn to summon a 30 radius cylinder of radiant light, fries U'kotoa's tail with 22 radiant damage. Halved though, apparently ...
U'kotoa tries to whip its tail at Kingsley, misses and instead takes damage itself! Ah Haha ...
Yasha gets 17 points if damage plus 4 offire damage! Nice! Getting better!
"It DOES get its Tidal Wave back." XD
Beau takes a bite attack and is dealt 30 points of piercing damage? Oooooh ... but somehow she manages to NOT get swallowed too at least ...
Fjord takes 21 points of bludgeoning damage and 13 points of acid damage from the head attack. Travis: "Yeah, my ANCESTORS took that damage."
Yasha takes 31 points of bludgeoning damage reduced to 15 from the tail plus 11 points of acid damage ... oof ...
Jester: "Fjord, help me I fell down the stairs!"
Fjord fires Cone of Cold on U'kotoa ... oooh, that is gonna do some SERIOUS damage! 46 points of cold damage ... low roll to save to 94 points ... argh, no, not Legendary Resistance! Just regular damage then ... oh and now there are ICEBERGS out here? Is that not a BAD THING right now?
Kingsley can't actually reach anything right now ... yeah ...
Beau is going for another eyeball ... and DEFINITELY hits, but misses the second. Still, 10 damage and thd eyes dim again ... Patient Defence!
Oh, so apparently the ship will have DRIFTED, so Kingsley CAN make an attack. Sooooo ... more maths ... 26 damage with 9 extra fire! Then 15 normal with 5 fire, and BOTH on the eyes!
Legendary Action! But Kingsley can nullify it ... all his attacks are now at disadvantage, apparently. NOICE!!! Oh but Kingsley takes a hit ...
Cannonade! Here we go ... 2 hits! Okay, time for MAJOR damage dice antics ...
Yasha has a new tattoo? Chain Breaker ... it flares up ... ooh, Thunderclap! And it doesn't work ... nollovks. Just hits the water instead ... bonus for another Battle Cry instead, so everybody but Fjord gets one round advantage.
Dragleb comes down and ALL THREE of them flare so apparently When he uses Frightful Presence U'kotoa becomes FRIGHTENED?!!! Wow ... oh, and there's MORE? Wait, this is NOT gonna work? I'm so confused now ... and so is Liam, it seems ... okay ... oh, Gravity Fissure? That'll do. 39 points of damage, but halved.
Travis and Sam discuss the possibility of taking U'kotoa out with Hideous Laughter ...
Oh, and now Czleb is getting CRUSHED ...
Oh, so they're actually gonna TRY this Hideous Laughter thing? Now they're workshopping the bad joke ... Holy fuck this is ACTUALLY gonna work? Seriously? 54 POINTS OF DAMAGE?!!! Bloody hell ...
Jester moves the Cylinder and it burn him more, but also hits Yasha. Fair trade, I guess ... Invoke Duplicity! Whoa ... FOUR Jesters? Holy fuck ... and Matt DOESN'T HAVE four extra Jester minis! XD He uses Otohans instead ... hmmm ...
U'kotoa tries to get in Fjord's head ... but the Wildmother keeps it out! Nice!
Instead U'kotoa gets ITSELF in a Tidal Wave in order to hit everybody else. Oof ... Fjord, Beau, Jester and Kingsley take 38 points of bludgeoning damage and they're knocked prone again! AAAAAAARGH!!! The others take half but at least they keep their feet ...
Fjord aims the Cone of Cold for the back if its head, but zlso has to try not to hit Beau with it too ... hmm ... 66 points of cold damage and THE HEAD IS ESSENTIALLY FROZEN IN PLACE in the water! Okay!
Ooooh ... and the eyes are BLAZING bright yellow now ... wait, LIGHTNING now? Seriously? Shit ...
Beau manages to DODGE it and Dragleb is immune, but everybody else takes half damage ... 18 points of lightning damage! Oof!
Kingsley gets proper bitchslapped by the Legendary Action, but then when he gets up he deals 8 points of sneak attack, 11 points regular and 5 points if FIRE damage on a single hit, then more on the next ... then pulls back for cover. Okay ...
POP POP!!! Beau deals 10 damage on the first, then 15 from a CRIT on the second! Sweet! Flurry of BLOWS, I love it ... oooh, she's using its own lightning damage against it? Nice one ...
Yasha's going for an eyeball! Yes! Oooh, what's this? 21 points of regular, 6 points of fire damage! Okay! Second hit is 18 points plus 8 pounds of fire damage! Oooooooh ... but no, she CAN'T do Sentinel with Jester's duplicates ...
Dragleb grabs U'kotoa by the face and just BELCHES Lightning Breath into it! Whoa ... I'm sorry 12 D10 of lightning damage? Hmmmm ... so that's 62 points of damage! Fuck ... on 2 chunks that's 124 points ... sweet fuck that's a lot of damage ...
Yasha gets a reaction through Sentinel, do she lands 30 plus 5 points of fire damage! Oof! She GRABS ITS TAIL SND JUST SHOCKS IT!!! Travis: "Aww, that's some BOSS SHIT!!!"
Veth tries Voltaic Bolt again but not on an eye ... then Sam rolls MASSIVE and Laura chastised him fir trying to play it safe. Still, Veth gets 56 points of damage! So it's still good ... thrn he trll her the worst joke ever ... urgh ... c'mon Sam! Have mercy!
U'kotoa tries to get into Fjord's head again ... and this time it WORKS?!!! Oh shit ... and now it's PUPPETTING HIM?!!! So OF COURSE he goes after Jester. 25 points of slashing damage! FUUUUUUUCK!!! But at least he snaps right back out of it. But it's BAD ... Jester is HURT, but clearly she's PISSED too.
Holy fuck, she's casting Mass Heal through her duplicates ... 700 POINTS DISTRIBUTED BACK among everybody in ONE MOVE!!! Holy fuck! Liam: "This is more than she healed us throughout the ENTIRE CAMPAIGN!!! Cue a whole lit of divvying up throughout the party! This is like her finest hour since that fucking cupcake! :3
Another cannonade! More crazy dice damage math! It's half damage but it still counts for a lot!
Alright SERIOUSLY, how many more hit points does it even have left?
DRAGONS CAN USE SHIELD?!!! Oh that's BEAUTIFUL. Travis is in FITS of laughter!
Nope, instead U'kotoa just rolls shit and just wipes out one of the dragon duplicates instead.
It bites Beau again! 56 points of piercing damage! AND SHE'S SWALLOWED!!! Fuuuuuuuck!
Yes, 30 hits Yasha ... oooh, Absorb Elements? Oh no, that doesn't work. So it still hurts.
Fjord casts Arcane Gate from the boat and jumps through to the other side of the battlefield.
Oh man, that's a NASTY hit on Jester ... it's so bad she slurs as Kingsley asks if she's okay ...
Kingsley's jumping in again and ... oh, CRITICAL HIT!!! Nice! 14 fire, 15 regular, 10 force damage! NOICE!!! Andnow there's FEAR in those yellow eyes! Second hit's just as sweet ... now he's diving in snd swimming crazy fast for the head.
Beau has the Cape of Montebanc! That's 1 Dimension Door! Yes! She gets out and it's gross as she lands back on the deck! Phew ...
Gods this is EXHAUSTING ...
Yasha's going RECKLESS now and ... OH FUCK DHE HOT THE HOW DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS!!! She grapples U'kotoa and let's Fjord tske the hit, so he funnels Dragleb Turtle's lightning into the serpent's face! Four Eldritch Blasts! AND Kingsley gets stabby! Jester Inflicts Wounds! Beau augments the lightning damage! And Veth swings down the rigging into the Portal and ...
OH!!! I FORGOT about the Fluffernutter! That's so perfect! XD
The serpent sinks like a fucking STONE ... but no, the beast is STILL not dead ... just brought low.
Dragon Turtle takes Fjord down into the deep ... IT'S HEALING!!! SHIT!!! DIVE DIVE DIVE!!!
Fjord grabs hold and summons Zehir through the mark ... ooooooh, this hurts, this sounds AWFUL!!! Fuuuuuuuuck ...
Gods, is Fjord REALLY just gonna go ALL THE WAY DOWN?!!!
Three crystals? Oh shit, that's not good ... Far Step! Phew ...
Okay, so THAT'S finally done with ...
Jester's relieved and more than a little aroused seeing Fjord alive and very naked ...
Shit, the mark's still on him ... and also the crystals are still active. But the Wildmother's still with him, so ... maybe it's gonna be alright ... whoa, SHE HEALED HIM!!! Sweet!
Oh dear, not Stone's Throw Shipping again ...
Aaaaaah, denouements ...
Yasha footrubs sounds GORGEOUS ...
Hahahaha ... the return of Martina Stewart ...
Only ONE of the kids dies in the camp this year. But they got better ...
Jester becomes Exandria's answer to Banksy. With dicks.
Oh! Kingsley gets their banishment from Darktow rescinded ... ah, by becoming THE NEW Plank King. Of course.
D'awwwwwwwww ... Essek comes back at last ... he can't get enough of that sexy scruffy wizard, clearly ...

dnd au
Hyrule - fairy cleric. This one was the most obvious to me, since he can heal but he can also fight and do a butt load of other shit. It’s also funny to me specifically that he would be the type of cleric to say, “I’m a healer but…”
Sky - aarocokra paladin. The aarocokra thing also kinda combines his loftwing mechanics with just…himself. And a paladin is obvious, considering he feels the closest to Hylia compared to the rest of the Chain.
Legend - tiefling artificer. C’mon, he’s got a bunch of enchanted rings, so he should be able to imbue items with magic. I haven’t played his games, but it seems as if a bard would also be fitting for him based on how many instruments he has to play (also, that’d be hilarious). A tiefling can also be any coloration (more commonly red and therefore a light red AKA pink), and I feel like Legend also has sorta the stereotypical attitude of a tiefling anyways.
Four - gnome artificer. He’s gotta be short and he’s gotta be a smithy. Plus, gnomes are smart.
Wild - wood elf ranger. He’s ~one with nature~ but can shoot a bow. Also, I feel like he’d for sure have a Haunted One background.
Twilight - werewolf human cavalier fighter. I don’t really know the actual dnd rules about lycanthropy other than Chetney from CR3, but a human might be fitting for Twilight seeing as how his village is filled w them. Also, though Twilight doesn’t really fight on Epona, I thought the cavalier subclass would be a good way to tie her into his character.
Wind - triton swashbuckler rogue. He specifically has to be this subclass of rogue, for obvious reasons. The triton thing would relate to his love of the sea made…literal. Plus, a triton can Control Air and Water, unlike a water genasi.
Warriors - warforged or human/half-elf battle master fighter. His background is for sure the military one. Unfortunately, there’s not really a straight-up knight class in dnd, but Warriors’ intelligence in battle could easily transfer to the types of maneuvers a battle master is known for. In relation to his race, Warriors strikes me as the most “normal”/“human” out of the Links, but a warforged might be a better twist on his dnd backstory.
Time - elf or fairy Hexblade warlock. His patron could be the Fierce Deity, and he can both fight and cast spells. The elf or fairy thing relates to his time in the Kokiri Forest (I’m p sure I spelled that wrong), and I thought either would be fitting.
BONUS:
Malon - human
Ravio - drow artificer with the merchant background and a high charisma
All of the Zelda’s are probably aasimar, but I don’t know enough about all of them to say which classes they’d fall into. Flora might be a wizard or an artificer, and Sun might be a bard (because of her harp)

I went back to try the first two Eight Petals Argent books as a warlock this time. I think I’m just going to try out various characters of different classes to feel how they all play. And some impressions so far, of a (fathomless) warlock following immediately on the coattails of a (twilight) cleric.
I can’t tell how much of this is just bad luck compared to the cleric, because I’m also trying different routes through the adventure and different skills just mean different routes in some cases regardless, but the warlock feels significantly less survivable? Though this could also be a factor of a solo adventure where it’s all on you. But while they both have the same hit die and Con, with the warlock I’m worrying about my HP a lot more. A lot a lot more.
(I realise twilight cleric is an unfair comparison there, given Twilight Sanctuary and heal spells, but yeah)
Warlock also feels significantly more specialised. The cleric had tools for more situations. These adventures, to be fair to them, do do their best to vary things up a LOT, so different classes can have places where they shine, but what that does mean is that when you’re playing through the whole thing with just your single character to rely on, there’s areas where you struggle. I feel like I felt that less on the cleric, who could handle most things decently well. On the warlock, say, the lengthy outdoor survival challenge was more of an issue.
Where the warlock does feel significantly better, at least straight out of the gate, is combat. I feel like an attack roll cantrip vs purely save cantrips does make a big difference at low levels? Again, that could just be luck of the dice rolls, but I felt like the warlock’s hits just landed more. Once the cleric got up to third level and had things like spiritual weapon online, she sped up a lot more. The warlock, because I’m playing Fathomless, had functionally a spiritual weapon from day one (though it’s not going to level very well by comparison, I’m aware). They felt like they had more control over combat faster.
Although. Caveat. The warlock feels better in ranged combat, specifically. Once they get up into melee combat, the HP issue starts rearing up again, as well as the lower AC and lack of melee attack options. And, again, I realise that if I’d been comparing, say, a knowledge cleric vs a hexblade warlock, this comparison might also go the other way. My cleric having a rapier and a shield to work with helped her out a lot. Now that I’ve hit 3rd level on the warlock and picked up a melee cantrip via Pact of the Tome, we’ll see if that makes a difference.
The warlock’s higher off-the-bat damage output has helped them a lot, though. With the survivability thing too. In that my cleric almost always wound up having to be in melee, because most things survived long enough to close with her, while my warlock once, very memorably for me, survived by the skin of their fucking teeth a gauntlet of three combats in a row with nothing between them because they killed the third enemy in one hit with a hex-augmented agonising eldritch blast from 45ft away. It did 13 damage, which happened to be exactly as many hp as the enemy had. Which was fantastic, because my warlock had 3 hit points left and no means to get more.
In full melee, though, when I’m in tiny dungeon rooms, I have a dagger. Sometimes a hex-augmented dagger, but still just a dagger. It’s rough. I’m flipflopping on my 2nd level spell because of that too. I feel like going Misty Step, but since I’m fighting alone a lot of the time, or with only a single NPC, it might be worth picking up Darkness to pair with my Devil’s Sight? If I’m in a tiny room and forced into melee, dropping darkness might help balance things my way.
I also ran into an odd tactical thing I hadn’t considered with the Tentacle of the Deeps. You can deploy it, to start, anywhere within 60ft. But you can only move it, afterwards, 30ft per turn. Which did me a lot of good when it missed the first attack and the boss enemy promptly dashed to fucking melee with me 60ft away leaving my tentacle waving uselessly in the breeze for two rounds of trying not to die before it could catch up again. If it does hit it helps itself by dropping their move speed, but if it misses it can find itself left behind. I didn’t run into that issue with the cleric as much because, by luck of the draw, by the time she had spiritual weapon she was often in boss-with-minion fights with bosses who didn’t like to move so much, so she could leave the weapon on the boss while she was in melee with the minions. My warlock, who likes to be significantly more mobile to try and keep at range, and who was deploying the tentacle earlier against bosses designed to be much more mobile, ran into positioning issues the cleric didn’t.
I don’t know, I’m kind of having fun getting to actually play these things and explore the tactical and other differences in the way they play. I didn’t know solo adventures were a thing. The lack of a group around here and my lack of a space at home where I’d have the privacy for video to play online meant I didn’t have any actual experience with this game. It’s a lot of fun actually trying things out.
I’m so tempted to go back to a cleric next time though. A knowledge cleric this time. But. Let’s try things out before I fall immediately into a rut. Might try a rogue, get a non-spellcaster experience. Or a ranger. And I do want to try star druid at some point too.
I’m glad I found these things. I hope the fourth book comes out soon.

warlock/druid
Druid + Warlock has a fuck ton of potential and the only real challenge it has is the same challenge all multi-casting ability multiclasses have. I’ve talked extensively about how to build around this and it’s picking one as your utility/support casting and focusing on pairing the subclass abilities with what you can do from your primary class. You can pick to be a warlock with a side of druid or viceversa and either would be effective it just depends on what you want to do and what spells you want access too.
I think they have a lot of super cool potential and flavor. To the degree that I came up with 12 combinations that I think could have super great flavor and mechanics.
Going to put them all below the cut but my favorite are Land Druid + Any Warlock, Wildfire Druid + Fiend Warlock, Spores Druid + Hexblade, and Circle of Stars + Celestial
Circle of the Land + Hexblade
Circle of the Land’s arcane recovery pairs well with short rest spell slots as well. If you’re choosing druid as your primary, you’ll be able to regain a ton of spell slots as well as the utility of your smaller short rest warlock spell slots. It’s also nice if you have abilities from either subclass that recharge on a short rest. If you’re choosing warlock as a primary it’s still useful to get one of your smaller utility spells back on the Druid side. I also think it’s a great way to get a bit more spell versatility. Circle of the Land works well with any warlock subclass depending on what you’re looking for, the only reason I am shouting out Hexblade is bc this is the multiclass I want to use if I ever get to play a character of mine named Giloreyn, but it’s really something interesting to think about for spell versatility and short rest synergy.
Circle of Dreams + Archfey
It just makes sense on a flavor level and healing paired with fey presence is super interesting. I think I like this more as a Druid primary + Warlock dip for the utility of invocations, extra cantrip, and a fun combat ability.
Circle of Dreams + Celestial
The thing about this is I just think it’s Funny to have two separate bonus action healing dice pools and then you see that circle of dreams is just. Straight up better. Better range, better healing output if you need, however you do have one less dice than Celestial, but I think the range, output, and temporary hp makes it more worth it. I think you COULD do some interesting flavor with this multiclass but if I was going to pair circle of dreams with a warlock dip I would do something that wasn’t going to just be a repeat of an ability you already have. In the same vein, if I was doing this as a Druid dip, I would want to pick a Druid subclass that would benefit my main class instead of being a repeat lol. If you want the extra dice, you just take another level of the class you already have. The only reason I see this being useful is spell versatility because again, yeah, it’s just the same ability with different stipulations and one is stronger than the other.
Circle of Wildfire + Celestial
Small extra healing pool for your wildfire Druid to use without expending spell slots? Access to green-flame blade? Pretty great.
On the flip side, a wildfire buddy alongside you first of all gives you some more versatility and action economy, and secondly has super fun flavor with the multiclass.
Circle of Wildfire + Genie (Fire)
Fun synergy and also the genie ability to add extra fire damage once per turn is just a little bit of spice that is nice. Likewise, having a little buddy is useful if you’re primarily a warlock for reasons stated above.
Circle of Wildfire + Fiend
This isn’t one that I think is ridiculously optimized but i think it is super INTERESTING if you’re playing a pact of the blade warlock + wildfire druid. You can flank with your wildfire spirit. You can use Shillelagh as a bonus action to let you use your wisdom to attack. Then you can cast green flame blade and because it’s a melee weapon attack, it would use the modifier or whatever your weapon uses. And because it’s under the effect of Shillelagh, it’s your wisdom. So you can 100% do a close range wildfire druid with a hellfire dip that lets them regain hit points when they’re playing up close and personal.
Circle of Spores + Hexblade
SUPER fun leaning into the angle of your powers being Decay and great mechanically since circle of spores gives you temporary hit points, extra damage, and is generally geared to you playing close up and personal. Hexblade’s curse and proficiency with whatever weapon you want to use. You can def use the CHA weapon aspect Hexblade if you’re leaning more warlock than druid but you can do the same thing if you’re choosing Druid as your focus with Shillelagh.
Circle of Spores + Fiend
Same concept as what I brought up with Wildfire/Fiend. You’re rewarded for playing up close and personal and can handle yourself in a melee with your temporary hit points and regaining hit points.
Circle of Spores + Undead
Great flavor. Frightened condition. The only issue I see is the fact that temporary hit points don’t stack but you can work around this, especially if you get to higher levels.
Circle of Stars + Seeker
The flavor! This is the multiclass someone in my Gestalt game is doing and while gestalt is differentTM, this is still a great multiclass in RAW and has a lot of fun flavor.
Circle of Stars + Celestial
I can’t even explain how much potential this has in so many directions. Cosmic Omen. Or Celestial Warlock getting to deal extra radiant damage off of circle of stars Archer. Circle of Stars Dragon form to hold concentration. THere’s just so much synergy and you’ve got that dice pool of healing on the side as well.
Circle of the Moon + Hexblade
Okay so this one is a gimmick and it only really works as a druid main + warlock probably only one level dip but uh. You can put a hexblade’s curse on someone while you’re wildshaped lol. And you can use your first turn to set up this by using your action to wildshape (which you can still do, moon druid just lets you do either) and bonus action to put that curse on. Extra damage, more of a chance to crit. It’s handy if you’re taking on something big.

So the last session of the game in on Tuesdays was.. intense.
Enastros' boyfriend Elio died basically sacrificing himself for the party, and then because Ena, Soren, and Filvogg all ate lotus petals, they were tripping balls for 4 days straight. Elio sent Ena to find Soren, but because of the lotus petals, it took her forever and she was very easily distracted when she ran into Filvogg. Trying to stay on track she mentioned how they needed to find Soren, but nothing evolved from it.
Once Soren FOUND THEM. The trio finally managed to Sober Up, with Ena immediately realizing that they NEEDED to find their dear rogue/Warlock. Digging through her hazy memory, she and Soren booked it to the house of an Eladrin named Orlo, who basically ran the town of lotus-eaters. Filvogg would make his way to save his own sister, Mawk.
When Ena and Soren made it to the house, Orlo played dumb, but let them in. Eventually Ena, with the help of her Cheshire Cat, Luna, would find Elio's lifeless body in the corner of the attic. In a fit of grief and anger, she took his broken sword, sliced her hand upon it, and called to the furies to bring him back if she killed Orlo. They agreed.
Ena made her way down, with Soren in tow as he agreed to help. Ena slaughtered Orlo, with the furies giving her a blessing of extreme prowess in that moment. As she stabbed Orlo through the heart, they gifted her a revivify diamond.
However, the ressurection is not garunteed to be a success, (and ooc we know it will not be, as Elio's player has decided to roll a new character), and as such, Ena, having lost the person she felt truly understood is gone. She takes up his sword, blaming herself and her naivety for the loss of her love, vowing to never let this happen again, thus turning her from a bard into a Hexblade warlock. She takes up a broom of Flying, attuning to it, making her a Hexblood, connected to Hecate, so that she may find a way to walk between the underworld and living world, so that she may be with her love, and help her friends.
Upon taking up her pact with the furies, her appearance changes from the almost angelic look she once had, to one of a more fallen demeanor. Her love for others is both her strongest suit, and her biggest weakness.

Gwen bores me so here's a low-effort build
Tumblr media
(Artwork by Jeremy Anninos. Made for Riot Games.)
I'm going to be honest Gwen bores the shit out of me. Beyond the initial hype for a new champion I don't think I've been this uninterested for a new champ release since probably Camille? (The other scissor champion. Huhn I'm sensing a pattern here.) It's not even the whole "doesn't look like a living doll #missedpotential" thing. Her gameplay seems generic with her W being the only ability of interest and her voice... I like her voice actress but the direction is... Well let's say what it is: it's another Seraphine.
That being said I'm going to have to provide a build for her eventually so...
PASSIVE: Magic damage on-hit. Can't imagine what subclass I'm going to use.
Q: Basic damage ability.
W: Block incoming damage with magic. Interesting potential.
E: Basic dash.
R: Basic projectile spam.
(Also new Tumblr beta editor lets me color text on PC so that's nice.)
RACE
Either Warforged (Eberron) or Reborn (Ravenloft.) Warforged just a stronger race overall imo so...
ABILITY SCORES
Max Charisma. Get at least 14 in DEX (Medium Armor) but more is nice to wear a dress instead of armor. Everything else is secondary: dump Intelligence because you were literally born yesterday.
BACKGROUND
Far Traveler works? So does Noble? Or you can just make your own background since you don't really have one.
THE BUILD
CLOCKWORK SOUL 6 / HEXBLADE 14
PASSIVE: Lifedrinker invocation (Level 12)
Q: Literally just stabbing people? Take one of the Smite spells or Eldritch Smite if you want, I guess.
W: Bastion of Law (Clockwork Soul level 6) Basically the only thing you're going to be using Sorcery points on, but I'd recommend grabbing the Metamagic Adept feat specifically to have more Sorcery points to use on Bastion of Law and possibly Quickened Spell (Quickened Eldritch Blast lol.)
E: Misty Step, or just dashing.
R: Eldritch Blast lol.
Other than that you're basically going to be taking either Armor of Shadows (high DEX) or Mask of Many Faces (low DEX) to make your armor look like a dress, and of course you'll be taking all the necessary melee Warlock invocations. (Thirsting Blade primarily. You can actually honestly afford to ignore Improved Pact Weapon in this build.)
FINAL BUILD
What you've basically got is an extremely straightforward Hexblade build. You're probably going to want to flavor the scissors as some sort of pole weapon which means Polearm Master (and maybe Great Weapon Master) are a requirement for damage. This build is also rather feat greedy (Eldritch Adept also a very good feat) since instead of multiclassing into a Martial class for Extra Attack we're going into Sorcerer for funny Bastion of Law.
Honestly if attempting this build I'd recommend going for Point Buy and dumping everything except for Charisma. And DEX and CON I guess. Well Wisdom is nice to have too. Honestly a stat array like 8 / 14 / 14 / 8 / 12 / 15 (STR / DEX / CON / INT / WIS / CHA) would be quite acceptable via point buy. If your race provides +1 to Charisma and +2 to Constitution you'd be pretty well off. Still doesn't change the fact that your 4 feats are essentially going to be Polearm Master, Eldritch Adept, Metamagic Adept, and likely either Great Weapon Master or Sentinel. Honestly a Custom Lineage might be a good way to build this character as well.
You could also just build this as a generic Hexblade with 6 levels in Paladin for Aura of Protection but that's kinda boring as shit.
