I was also gifted a physical copy of this book for Christmas. This is the 4th book in the Stillhouse Lake series and OMG was it amazing. I think it's probably my favourite so far which is hard to say because they have all been so brilliant. Just picture this: a religious cult, young men going missing, and a fight to save so many lives. I can't even put into words how epic that ending was. We got to see a lot more of Connor's POV in this book and I really loved his development throughout the book. This book really does capture the whole 'no rest for the wicked' because there is so much that happens. Gwen Proctor and her family really go through it. The peaks in the book are forever spiking. I was completely hooked by the prologue and spent yesterday reading almost the whole book. I cannot recommend this series enough and also this author! Who else was super emotional reading this final installment of Stillhouse Lake? I had such a hard time bringing myself to start it knowing it was going to be the last. THAT AUTHOR'S NOTE!

We lost such a talent with the death of Rachel Caine. I'm sad we won't get to live in her worlds anymore, and I'm sad this is the end of Gwen and the kids.

This was definitely the darkest book in the series, starting with the discovery of the drowned bodies of two babies in the backseat of a submerged car. Detective Kezia Claremont, recently pregnant herself, instantly gets emotionally involved. How did these children end up in the lake and who can she make pay for it?

Gwen Proctor has once again settled in a new town, as her former identity has once again left her and her family exposed. When she receives another letter from her dead ex-husband, serial killer Melvin Royal, she knows she needs to track down the source. She's paid for his actions too many times.

When her recent letter and Kezia's case start to follow the same leads, they know they need to work together to protect their families and protect each other.

This book isn't for the faint of heart as it's definitely quite graphic.

Having loved the first two in the series I also had to get the physical copy. I wasn't sure what this book would be about after the end of book two. I had no doubt that this adult thriller would be vivid and action packed, no detail left to the imagination. I wasn't disappointed. Caine describes everything to the very last detail with sickening accuracy. I definitely had complaints from my partner about the amount of times I was shouting out while reading! The character relationships really developed in this book. Gwen and Sam getting closer all the time but of course their pasts are still haunting them. Lanny and Connor are really growing up and I enjoyed the part they played in this book. Gwen giving them more of a part when this is their lives too. She obviously realised this.
