Banksy, "Happy Choppers," 2006,
The famously secretive Banksy painted it in early 2006 on the wall of a building in London's Shoreditch area and it was documented by his so-called 'partner-in-crime' Steve Lazarides in the first volume of the Banksy Captured book. But then it was painted over by the building's owner who feared it would create a security problem.
The building was later sold and it was only when the current owner was leafing through a book featuring Banksy art locations - a Christmas  gift for his son - that he recognised one of the areas shown and realised a Banksy must be on his building. He raced there to investigate but the section of wall had since been painted black.

When is a #sculpture too life-like? When police come knocking following reports of an unconscious woman #LazEmporium #Kristina #art #Soho
Police forced their way into the Laz Emporium in London’s Soho last month after receiving reports of an unconscious woman slumped over a table in the locked-up gallery. At the time they arrived, an employee had locked up the gallery and gone off to make a cup of tea. When she returned, she found the door off its hinges and two baffled coppers. What the police had found was a life-like sculpture…

“Police broke down the doors of a London art gallery to save a woman slumped unconscious over a table - only to discover she was made of packing tape and foam filler.
The lifeless woman they had been trying to save was in fact an art installation entitled 'Kristina' which is on display at the London gallery.
The work was commissioned by Steve Lazarides, Banksy's former agent and the dealer behind Laz Emporium.
Mr Lazarides said: "Hannah who was working in the gallery that day had just locked up and gone upstairs to make a cup of tea.
"She came down to find the door off its hinges and two confused police officers!"

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)
This will be the first documentary I’m watching during this challenge, but it most certainly will not be the last!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I absolutely love that Shepard Fairey, the man responsible for the popular Obama image, is a prolific street artist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone tell me why this man looks like Rob Schneider.
Tumblr media
This headline about Banksy is amazing.
Tumblr media
You know, anytime I’ve mentioned this documentary in the past, people would say, “Oh, yeah! The Banksy documentary!” But, frankly? This documentary is more about Thierry Guetta than it is about any one street artist. I know he follows Banksy, but Thierry Guetta himself is kind of amazing. Not necessarily talented, but... kind of amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve gotta say, I do not at all blame him.
ESE: 98/100
50 +5 for the Banksy monkey head +5 for Debora Guetta dealing with her husband’s obsession +5 for Thierry Guetta being a Rob Schneider lookalike -5 for the creepier implications of Thierry’s relentlessness +10 for Banksy’s elusiveness +5 for Thierry not knowing what to say other than “I really liked him” about Banksy +10 for accidentally forging “a million quid” -5 for Thierry neglecting his family +5 for Thierry accidentally becoming a street artist, himself -10 for Banksy getting Thierry caught in Disneyland +5 for Thierry’s quick-thinking +10 for the painted elephant -10 for putting his family at risk by putting all of his money into this huge show +5 for Banksy sending help for Thierry -10 for Thierry’s growing ego -10 for the R-slur +5 for Shepard Fairey’s thoughts on Mr. Brainwash +5 for Banksy’s thoughts on Mr. Brainwash +5 for Banksy no longer encouraging EVERYONE to make art +5 for Space Invader NOT liking to talk about Mr. Brainwash +10 for this documentary totally fooling me into thinking Thierry was an unsung hero +3 for “Banksy will never again help anyone make a documentary about street art.”

Miaz brothers
Image (1) from Antimatter Series, spray paint on canvas
2-3 Preview: Miaz Brothers "Anonymous" @ Lazinc, London 2018
Exhibition - continuation of the Antimatter Series titled Anonymous ( a new, bolder brush stroke which has not been seen in the Antimatter Series), and will tackle concepts of anonymity and the metaphor of status in our existence.
“It is an exercise for the inner spirit; a flexible experience of stretching the awareness of what we see and perceive; a stimulation for the consciousness and the limits of our idea of the world and its symbols. We are trying to force the viewer to interact with the image and to do so in a sensitive effort by filtering it through the perception and the process of identification to achieve something not fixed or limited but which is boundless and personal.” —The Miaz Brothers, 2018

Banksy's 'Show me the Monet' Painting Sells for $10 Million
Banksy's take on a Claude Monet masterpiece has sold for £7.6 million ($9.8 million) following a nine-minute bidding battle, auctioneers at Sotheby's have said.
In "Show me the Monet," famed street artist Banksy reimagines Monet's "Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies" as a modern-day scene.
The picture is complete with environmental pollution: A traffic cone and two shopping carts submerged in the otherwise idyllic scene.
Monet's original painting was one of 12 Impressionist works featuring views of the artist's Japanese bridge over his water garden, near Giverny, Northern France.
Executed between 1897 and 1899, Monet painted the variations depicting the same idyllic view at different times of the day, during varying weather conditions and seasons.
Banksy's painting, an oil on canvas created in 2005, was showcased as part of the "Crude Oils: A Gallery of Re-mixed Masterpieces, Vandalism and Vermin" exhibition, where the artist re-imagined famous works by artists including Edward Hopper, Jack Vettriano and Vincent van Gogh.
At Wednesday's auction, which was live streamed and attended by some select clients, the tongue-in-cheek artwork was sold to an Asian private collector for £7.6 million -- above the estimate of £3-5 million, Sotheby's said.
The painting is the second most expensive one from the elusive British artist.
Last year, Banksy's "Devolved Parliament," a satirical oil painting depicting the House of Commons filled with chimpanzees, sold at auction in London for a record-breaking £9,879,500 ($12,200,000).
The artist's identity remains a secret, but in October last year the artist's former agent and photographer, Steve Lazarides, published images alleged to show him at work -- without revealing his face.
