I love Janeway in Star Trek Picard: Firewall. I’m glad that David Mack got Janeway. I was afraid, honestly that he wouldn’t. I shouldn’t have, he’s a consultant on Star Trek Prodigy and he’s not Peter David who killed Janeway so ignobly in his novel.
Anyway, this part is so great:
Tumblr media
”I’m better than clever, Director— I’m famous. I know for a fact the shine hasn’t yet worn off my celebrity as Voyager’s captain. And if you think I won’t stoop to manipulating public opinion to tie your hands and make you look like a petty villain… think again.”
I. Love. Her.
Janeway would drop everything, cross every mountain, destroy any timeline for her crew but especially for three people. But most of all, it's because Janeway also knows how to play politics and is highly aware of her place in Starfleet.
Seriously, if Janeway doesn’t end as Commander in Chief of all Starfleet, what’re we even doing here!

I finished Firewall last night. After sleeping on it, I love it as much as Second Self. Seven's journey of self-discovery, truly her social teen years, finding a family, losing a mentor, finding love, and meeting her nemesis like everything you could ask for in an xB coming of age story.
Also the fact that Janeway's loneliness was also addressed and her relationship to Seven because everyone else had also 'moved out'.
The whole book was Chef's Kiss.
I also half read the physical book, and half listened to the audiobook. I love January LaVoy. I would listen to her read pretty much anything.

read the first two chapters of the new seven of nine book and uhhh idk if I'll finish it. the writing is not great. it seemed very juvenile in tone to me, and dumbed down seven. i kinda figured it would be about on par with the picard's overall quality but i was cautiously optimistic too :/

since you asked me, do you have any songs/books/podcasts/etc. that you’ve enjoyed lately?
I’m really bad about re-listening to the same things, especially if I’ve felt down, but here’s some things I’m enjoying or hoping to enjoy soon!
Books: I’m hoping to get my hands on The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes soon, I was so into the original Hunger Games trilogy! Also, a friend of mine said the Star Trek novel Firewall (tracing Seven of Nine’s journey from the homecoming of Voyager up to her time with the Rangers in Picard) is quite good so far! I might be brave enough to take the plunge pending their review! (I’m very sensitive about how Seven is handled because I love her so much, and the Trek novels are known for spotty quality depending on who’s writing.)
Podcasts: I’ve always been a nerd for history, I really enjoy listening to American Historytellers! Each season is about a different era or event, and the way the story is told, you can imagine being part of the action!
Songs: I saw you mention The Door by Teddy Swims on your list, I’ve been into that one a lot lately as well! I’ve also been listening to Memory by Kane Brown and Blackbear, I Hope by Gabby Barrett, and Enough by Charlieonafriday. TS11 comes out in a little over a week! I’ll be checking it out, how about you?

I said this in another post but in Star Trek Picard: Firewall.
Janeway’s whole mood about Starfleet and Federation shenanigans, is she’s almost always 15 seconds away from saying this:
Tumblr media
It’s sad Seven doesn’t know that Janeway is almost always 15 seconds away from throttling other Flag officers and intelligence agents.
But also, I want to hug Janeway. Seven feels isolated and alone and looking for family.
Janeway also feels the same way, everyone she loves and cares about have their own lives. Chakotay may stop by and have dinner with her on occasion but the Protostar is on the verge of launching and Seven’s left Earth.
The Voyager crew, her family has scattered to the wind. And USS Voyager herself is far from Janeway because it’s being stripped of future and Borg tech so Starfleet can turn it into a museum.
I wonder how Janeway took to all the shenanigans Starfleet and Federation were up to in between Prodigy, Firewall, and Picard.
Starfleet must have kept her busy with something else.
I kind of hope somehow, eventually Janeway will end up as Commander in Chief of Starfleet.
But also I just want Janeway to be happy, I don’t even care who she ends up with as long as she’s happy.
