it's quiet when she finally closes up the cafe for the day, the mage herself being the last one to leave as the sun starts its descent over the horizon. peace is a rare thing, no matter the place, even if true peace isn't something Ritsuka has known in....well, a long time, this right here is close enough to bring her that wordless feeling. as if, just for a moment, she wasn't humanity's last master tasked with the impossible.

it's too soon to go home yet, though and surprises can come in many forms. such as that of a familiar Caster as she turns to leave, which causes Ritsuka to startle like a spooked rabbit. " What is with Servants and sneaking up behind me like that? You scared me!" yet her words carried something akin to amusement as lips fall into a practiced smile, not the least bit upset at the sudden appearance.

" If that's your way of greeting me, a 'hello' would have worked much better, Arturia."

You are slowly dragging me into this one, kicking and screaming. Canon gets in the way of this for me, though, because I want to shelter Cor and Nyx from the heartbreak of that betrayal. But in certain scenarios and configurations...maybe.

Explanations: - Fun when I want angst, but hard to fit into scenarios without angst for me - It's a trio, of course they're fucking the same guy ^_^ - They're so dumb, of course it would be dumb together - In canon, much angst, not a good ending. Plus, the power dynamics with Nyx have to be navigated VERY VERY carefully - These men have no measure of going halfway. They are all in to a stupid degree, and relationships would be the same - Would be thematically delicious in a redemption story, maybe - devotion pulling in different ways brought in a similar direction by love, but keeping each other from going all in in the exact same direction and smashing into a wall full speed (it will only be half speed now) - You are doing an excellent job in whittling down my resistance, my friend...

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:
