I go back and forth between Dark Places and Sharp Objects, both by Gillian Flynn. Absolutely love them. However, I recently read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn and that was so paradigm-shifting that I have to mention it.
Louis Chandler: What’s the oldest thing you own?
I can't say I have too many Genuine Old Things but recently my parents were going through my grandma's old jewelry, and my mom picked out an old silver bracelet for me because it was so weird. She and her siblings used to play with it because it is adorned with a bunch of silver children's heads with her and sibling's names engraved on them, lmaoo. It's only about 60 years old, but it was the first thing that springs to mind.

If it's alright to ask, how did you become a Mortician? I've wanted to be a Mortician since I was a child(Mortician or Forensic Anthropologist; it's the idea of being one of the last people to posthumously aid a person through their final send off), but it feels like a very difficult field to get into. In your opinion, do you think 26 is too old to start?
Omg please ask!! That's so great that you've had it in mind for so long. I found out about the mortuary science program at my local community college at a time when I was not really sure what direction I wanted my life to move in beyond knowing I wanted to do something that helped others, so I gave it a try and loved it!
The funeral industry is actually pretty easy to get into, but kind of hard to stay in. Every state has different requirements for licensure (and Colorado does not require a license at all), but generally speaking, you have to graduate from an accredited mortuary science program (most of them earn you an associate's degree), pass a state-based exam dealing with laws and practice in your state, and pass the National Board Exams administered by the American Board of Funeral Service Education. You typically also have to complete an internship or apprenticeship by working in a funeral home for a period of time (in my state, it's a year).
Interest in the industry is low and demand just goes up every year now that the boomers are dying. So most funeral homes are eager to hire people and many of them are starting to implement better working conditions to encourage people to stay. When I say it's hard to stay in the profession, the burnout rate is high. It's a taxing job emotionally and physically, the hours are long, and funeral homes are frequently mismanaged. But if you can find a good working situation and some effective coping mechanisms, it's an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable profession for a lot of reasons.
And 26 is absolutely not too late! I started mortuary school after graduating with a bachelor's degree I realized I didn't want. I was 23. I have many colleagues and friends who started in their 30s or 40s or even later. In some ways, a little more life under your belt is beneficial.

Hey! It’s Black-Metal-Bard messaging from main. I could have sworn I read that thing about Tatyana having actually been Strahd’s wife first in the early drafts of the story in an old Hickman interview about Ravenloft before it was Ravenloft™️(as in, back in the 70s when it was just a game they made up and ran with their friends), but I cannot for the life of me find it. (The page I was reading had a lot of VERY 70s-80s art and gave Tatyana absolutely MASSIVE fluffy blonde hair).
I much prefer the version of the story we have today(as the original just feels like a generic “Noble Families are generally shitty” vibe), I had just mentioned that old thing I had read as an interesting tidbit—but it doesn’t mean a whole lot since I can’t find the source. In any case, it doesn’t matter a whole lot, since that draft did NOT make it to canon(Thankfully)
(I would spend more time searching, but my cell service is crap at home and I do not have proper WiFi. As I can’t find the original article I read though, take it with a grain of salt)
hi thank you SO much for taking the time to send this!! i’d never considered there being earlier drafts of ravenloft before it was ravenloft™️, so this is honestly super interesting. i’m with you though that i prefer what we have today (especially as told in i, strahd), but if you ever do stumble across the old interview one day i’d love to see it.

13: What is their alignment? What would THEY say their alignment is? Does it matter to them?
I would probably say true neutral, mostly because they don’t fit the lawful or chaotic descriptors as much. I think they’d agree, although they might also say chaotic good because they do value life and enjoy their freedom (sometimes at the cost of rules). I don’t think it matters too much to them, really, but it’s something they might think about on a rainy day if it was brought up.
35: What do they think their biggest flaw is?
This is a good question… I think it would be the way they sometimes push limits to the point where other people could be affected if they’re not careful. This could be anything from breaking rules (this is a highschool campaign so curfews, going places they shouldn’t, etc) if they don’t think the person they could come in contact with will punish them for it or not being careful/making reckless decisions that could greatly worry others or even get them hurt as well
40: How would they feel if they met the real you? How would YOU feel if you met them?
I think we would get along well. We have a lot of the same interests and, while I intended them to be kind of shy and reserved, they ended up taking on a rather blunt personality (which i can sometimes also have). We could be prone to arguments maybe, but overall I think it would go well

As she parked the jeep in front of the shell of what would be their new home, Lisa turned towards her partner. Jesse was fast asleep with their feet tucked diagonally under the seat and their head resting on the window with the help of a light blue travel pillow.
It hadn't been that long of a drive, three hours, but it was enough for Jesse to zone out. Thankfully, Lisa was perfectly capable of navigating and entertaining herself via Bluetooth.
Jesse awoke to the gentle caress of Lisa's hand across their cheek. Blinking back sleep, Jesse sat up blearily and looked out the windshield at the wooden framing and half-finished walls before turning to face Lisa.
"Remind me why I agreed to sneak into our own home construction site in the middle of the night with you?"
"To cement ourselves into it as solidly as the foundation of our relationship. To truly claim it as our own."
Lisa turned and opened her door as Jesse rolled their eyes.
Both of them had practiced some form of spiritualism at different points in their lives. Lisa was the one who was still into it, much more than Jesse had ever been.
Jesse had never objected to cleansing a new place. Believing it would help is what made it work in the first place; that's what gives it power. Mainly, it would do no harm and made Lisa feel better, so there was no reason for Jesse to be weary of it.
This was different.

When Lisa first proposed the spell, Jesse was understandably skeptical for many reasons, not the least of which being that the shady website it came from had labeled it “black magic.” Not white, not gray, black. Lisa had jokingly called Jesse racist for bringing that up, and Jesse just rolled their eyes, running a hand through their curly black hair in a mixture of nervousness and mild frustration. “You know what I mean, Lisa.”
Lisa turned and took Jesse by the hands and looked them in the eyes with a serious gaze. “You said you’d always be mine, right?” Jesse nodded; Lisa smiled. “And I will always be yours. And this new house will always be ours. It’s a forever home. That’s why I want to do something special to bond us with it. I want to honor how special this is for you, and for us.”
Jesse teared up. Lisa had a way of doing that to them. Before Lisa, Jesse had never had a place where they truly felt at home and free to be themselves; not just because of jumping from foster home to foster home, but also because of privacy, agency, love, and acceptance.
What makes a house a home? For Jesse and Lisa, it was about love and making their new place all their own. Besides, being more of a skeptic, what harm could a silly little ritual do if it’s only meant to cement their relationship and the making of their new home together?

Lisa scoffed at the warning as she pulled up the spell on her phone. Why else would anyone be on this page if not to try it? She knew it was a standard CYA disclaimer, but who was OP kidding?
After double checking their little bundles of sage and compact dirt wrapped in twine interwoven with strings of their hair, Lisa lit the match and held it over the candle until the wick caught alight.
Snuffing the match out safely, she took a deep breath, relaxing her body and centering her mind.
As Lisa began to say the words, Jesse noticed an unnerving shift in the air. It was like the shadows were leaning in to listen, darkening around the edges of the candlelight. It felt unnaturally quiet, like a forest sensing the approach of a predator.
Lisa moved and Jesse shook their head to clear it, rubbing the goosebumps on their arms. I’m just creeping myself out for no reason.
Lisa handed Jesse their bundle. “Remember, just like we practiced.” Jesse nodded. Together, they reached forward and touched the tips of their bundles to the candle flame. The sage lit, but the slightly moist dirt kept it under control, if not a little smellier. Lisa spun in a slow counter clockwise circle, letting the dark smoke rise up from her bundle. Jesse followed suit. Once they completed the circle and met again in the middle, they touched the tips of their bundles together and held them above the candle. The smoke united into one plume for a moment before they leaned forward and blew their bundles, and the candle, out.
“Now let’s dip these in water before we slip them into the foundation under the walls.” Lisa grinned impishly; “don’t want to accidentally burn the house down before it's even built.”
Jesse shuddered involuntarily. It was kind of chilly, after all. They carefully dropped their bundles into the space in the framing which would become the walls of their new home. Lisa crouched down and got her hands dirty to make sure the small bundles would blend in and stay hidden. The builders had started framing, but the concrete was not technically fully cured. They could already walk on it, though. The window of opportunity to do this was less than a week, so Lisa had planned this carefully. She took the small bucket of Quickcrete that she’d mixed when they arrived, and poured it carefully over the bundles. With a metal spatula, she smoothed out the top so that the concrete under this small section of the wall was even. She breathed out one last sigh of energy and intent, with her palms open and faced down over the spot, before she stood and wiped her hands off on her jeans, and then winced because she’d just smeared small traces of concrete on herself. “Now let’s go back to that apartment we’re in for now. I’m not going to call it ‘home’ anymore.”

On June 24th, 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, which had established that abortion is a constitutional right.

Obergefell v Hodges established the constitutional right to marry the person of your choosing regardless of gender/orientation.
Griswold v Connecticut declared it unconstitutional for states to outlaw the use and promotion of birth control.
Virginia v Loving established the constitutional right to marry the person of your choosing regardless of race.

Know your history; know your rights.
So much is held together by Supreme Court precedent that is no longer legally sacrosanct.
Don't believe they're coming for other rights? Check out the concurring opinion. Also, here's what they did this week alone. (They chipped away at Miranda rights and let the abortion ruling outshine that in the news cycle - such is the far-right MO.)
We cannot allow lifetime-appointed justices to put their (racist, misogynistic, and homophobic) personal politics and those of lobbyists ahead of the duty of their office.
We must demand congressional action to codify these rights into federal law.

Congress has legal limitations on what they can impose as federal law. All of the above rights can be said to affect interstate commerce, taxation, or any other avenue which Congress can reach.
But then those federal laws can and will be challenged in the Supreme Court, which would likely, based on this ruling, declare them overreaching.
So we must also demand their impeachment.

Only one supreme court justice has ever been impeached, and he was not convicted (x). But, much like the presidency which brought us here, these are unprecedented times. And SCOTUS itself has shown us that precedent is out the window.
They must be impeached for perjury in their confirmation hearings.
They must be investigated and impeached for bribery where applicable.
They must be impeached for failing to uphold the duties of their office.

And beyond that, Congress must pass term limits for the Supreme Court.

Hi! I have a question about “The Final Days of Brandi Hellstrom”. It sounds absolutely incredible, but I wanted to ask if there is any child death featured, as I absolutely can’t handle that(typically I “Does the Dog Die” everything I watch/read, but I can’t do that with Brand New original fiction)
I hope it’s not rude to ask, and no judgement if that’s a part of your story. I hope your book gets lots of engagement! The world needs more toxic vampire romances where the main characters are ADULTS.(my friend and I are working on one that takes place in a college)
There is absolutely no child death in the story, and the main character is 28, though she looks around 20 due to some magically induced slow aging.
However I feel I should warn you and any other readers that the central horribly toxic and abusive relationship technically began before Brandi was 18.
She is an adult during the main story, but there are references to her meeting Gabriel while she was still in high school and a few months away from legal adulthood.
I’ve written a brief prologue to the main story up on ao3 that depicts their first meeting and a kiss between the two, despite Gabriel knowing she is not yet 18.
That said, the story is set in the present, when Brandi is an adult, and none of the main characters are teens or children.

Orta is a circle of the moon druid! She was my second ever character and I joined an established campaign at level ten and let me tell you, a level ten moon druid is kinda intimidating to play for a relative newbie, but she’s a ton of fun.
13. What is their alignment? What would THEY say their alignment is? Does it matter to them?
Orta’s neutral good, and I don’t think she’d say otherwise. As far as it mattering to her, well, I as a player don’t put much stock or care into alignment so it’s kinda hard for me to say? But she just wants people and the planet to be treated with care and respect so yeah maybe it does for her
30. Who is their favorite NPC? Or PC if they’re an NPC?
Oooh good question, that campaign had some really very cool npc’s in it! Is it cheating though to say her favorite was her adopted mud mephit Margu? If not Margu, it would have to have been Zera, an ancient consciousness stored in a weird brain rock that got a cool robot dragon body and piloted our airship
