i mean. that's how i described it too. but laughing that we're seriously gonna say that in this moment without the boys reacting, lol okay!

can truly appreciate the sheer awfulness of that hat cas is wearing out in the sunlight. it's so small, it's so translucent. cheapest of straw hats. (not knockin straw hats! my dad was an avid cowboy hat wearer and had a couple nice straw ones for the summer)

i don't pay too much attention to how time flows on this show, i do know sometimes it can be weeks between episodes, sometimes it's the next day (another thing that irked me on teen wolf was how they spent like... 2+ full seasons in one year to keep the kids in high school). but anyway, i just wonder how much show universe time cas was not off on some whatever, and around to do this stuff hanging out with them. them crammed in sam's room on his uncomfortable bed to watch a movie, like they did with charlie? lol. based on the number of times i've seen it in fic, i gather a bunker room with a tv does become a thing at some point, so maybe it was in there?

(i did not before i moved there)

okay i threw this in lightroom real quick to make it less dark because what is going on here? it's very... strike a pose, for feral!dean. and the kids are like from a painting. it's very dramatic. maybe i will paint it some day.

well the infamous benny appears. i also didn't realize purgatory was gonna be a time jump like hell. read something not too long ago that was fairly evocative of the environment of purgatory so i was thinking some of the show happened there (though i suppose flashbacks are also a possibility).

lol i'm already upset, broad strokes know how this goes with their reunion emotionally.

okay so some fics i've read are like "sam didn't look for dean while he was in purgatory" but i did not pick up that for all intents and purposes, sam had no reason to assume he wasn't dead.

there's a lot going on in this scene. like the semi dodging the cas questions, how he got out, etc.

And, honestly, I-I didn't exactly have a roadmap. So, yeah, I-I fixed up the Impala, and I just... drove.

okay right i've talked about this before too, how sam is always the fuckup begging for forgiveness and dean is the righteous man. and i'm tired of it! this thing with the voicemails from kevin tran is just... cruel. i don't like the point they're making.

real life, anyone in sam's situation would be a fucking mess. i still don't really think sam would flake on the phones with kevin like that.

in general i am overly literal and what i see is what i get when it comes to show canon but i'm trying so hard to hold tight to the illusion in my mind that hell-torture for sam and dean didn't involve rape but they're making it really fucking hard. there's been other references, i think one in the last ep no less. just keep thinking to myself "gloss over it, they're just being edgy, they don't actually mean it". i start to get real upset if i think about it so yeah.

i know i'm wearing the wincest goggles but again i feel like i am capable of picking up what a show is putting down regardless of a ship i might be invested in, but i feel like i'm losing it with cas and dean's relationship level. i feel like we have seen so little of cas in general, that they keep TALKING about how they're all close but we've seen so little of it?? i'd think with 22 episodes a season they'd have room to establish this onscreen 🥴 but here's dean crying over presumed-dead cas. i guess i'm just gonna have to go with it and stop complaining about sHoW doN't TeLL

oh no. a cheeky and obvious knockoff of xfiles, my expectations are subterranean. even the titles. oh lord. (the fake xfiles music is awful. and the knockoff version of the titles. ack. watching this show does make me appreciate mark snow, the xf composer, even more)

this pointless manufactured animosity, i don't get it

now we've got a bit of a corporate default vibe desktop background. i need to tag all these for easy comparison. i'll show you no feelings, i'm changing my desktop background!

so like. it's not that i'm opposed to soulless!sam in general. i think there's a lot of interesting ideas there. but the issue i took with it that i was so worked up over was how dean and bobby behaved which to me felt incredibly out of character - primarily around the issue of sam being back for a year and no one telling dean. and then dean seemingly let that bit go easily. which thinking about like, how dean acted after everything with ruby. during the bad times and after accidentally letting lucifer out. he had a real hard time letting that go and trusting sam again. but the writers, they made sam be there and not there for a whole ass year, and more or less ignore the fallout because we've got a different focus right now. bah.

anyway, i like the spin this is taking. cards are finally on the table. we're not really sure where sam is gonna shake out. sam's trying, dean's trying, they're working together to see what (bad) grandpa is up to.

also happy to hear rick worthy's voice! he's great on the magicians btw, regular supporting character. lots of dry humor that he does so well.

on the whole though, they've done a good job with their computer stuff. teen wolf was comically bad.

not in any universe, especially when sam has been possessed before, do i believe that dean winchester is not going to notice sam behaving so differently. you don't get every demon, monster and psychiatrist within a 50 mile radius calling out your codependent relationship with your brother and not notice some bumbling teenager is behind the wheel of his body.

not sure i'm in a good mindset for this. their little reunion at the hospital is making me overly upset.

dean gives him a chance to bail (or a hint to leave?) and sam ignores it and asks more about garth while making this face. he doesn't use this expression all that often. it's not something i associate with him being mad, just more stressed-concerned?

and dean's eyes too green, scruff too long. is it like, guilt-beard? (okay coming back to this, mark of cain urge to kill beard?)

(that phrasing? from this kids book called once i ate a pie, took me a solid day to remember what i was thinking of. a poem called puppy. "the world is big / trees too tall / sky too high. all i could remember was the cadence i use when reading it to the kids so it took a hot minute to drag up enough words to figure it out)

sharp left to practically slapstick with sam smacking garth to wake him up. here's me perpetually forgetting that garth completely flaked out on kevin, not that him being around would have made a difference to how it played out.

i was with dean here and not understanding what he was saying, but i see now. sam saying that it wasn't about who's responsible for kevin, or if he does get everyone around him killed - that it's not this dean self-flagellation/penance; go because of the not trusting and the lying and the taking away agency. i understood that's why sam sent him away, but i didn't understand the conversation specifics.
