Gertrude and the cat-avatars, pt 3

Summary: A cat with a strange pattern show up that Gertrude can never even think about getting back out. Agnes decides to bring a friend. Mike makes a friend.

A/N: Thanks @dcartcorner and the chatter in the stream that helped me decide on what type of cat Jude would be.

Gertrude rarely thought of getting rid of Annabelle. She was rather sure the cat had something to do with it. Annabelle had wandered into her home and fallen asleep on the armchair. At first glance she would seem like any ordinary cat, dark brown with grey stripes on the stomach and up to the back, though most of the left side was left stripeless. However, as Gertrude looked closer, she realised it was not just an ordinary pattern. In fact, some were way too straight and it all connected in a way that was not natural, as if someone had decided to take some paint and make a bleach-blonde pattern. As Gertrude looked closer she realised what it looked like. A spiderweb. 

Gertrude had named her Annabelle without too much of a second thought. Let her sleep on the sofa that night. Though as she laid awake at night she could not fully tell why she had done any of it. She had no interest in another cat and usually it had taken more than a few hours to decide on a name. Annabelle seemed very happy to just be inside. Though the times she did go outside she would always bring in living spiders that she got protective over. Gertrude was not sure why she let Annabelle live there.

Agnes came by at least once a day for an entire week alone. Getting more and more confident as time went on. Until one day she showed up with a cat next to her. A sphynx cat nearly ginger looking with some form of black mark on one of the legs. Though something told Gertrude that the cat was not actually a sphynx cat, could a cat just lose all the fur? Had it been burnt off in a fire? She was not entirely sure.

Agnes kept coming back and more often than not she had the other cat with her. Gertrude eventually named her Jude, as both seemed to stay for longer. The main problem with it was that Gertrude did not really like Jude and Jude did not seem to like her either. Often hissing if Gertrude spent too much time with Agnes, even if she had simply fallen asleep on her lap. Agnes, however, seemed perfectly happy being around and getting attention from them both. Seemingly ignoring whatever hatred was going on between a human and a cat.

There was one cat that came by once in a while. The first time she saw him he had been laying by her mailbox, ‘saw’ was a rather strong word in that case. His black and fluffy fur melted into the darkness of late November night. He had looked up as Gertrude passed him. All she had been then was bright yellow eyes, blinked, then put his head down to sleep. Or she assumed he went to sleep. 

After that she would mostly see him, well, his eyes. He did not stare at her, just looked up from whatever shadow he melted into and looked very tired to be a cat. Seriously, he did not seem to have a home and even if he did he could sleep all day. No need to look like he went to work all day. Gertrude had been rather happy to just let him be. After all, he seemed quiet and calm, just happy to lay around in the shadows, rather similar to Maxwell when she thought more about it.

In the end Mike had been the one to get the cat inside. It had been a month of living there and Gertrude had tried to let Mike go back out now that he seemed more healthy. But just like her first attempt he came back. This time not alone or with Simon. Gertrude had opened the door and Mike, though smaller than the other, had managed to push the other in. An hour later the cat had made himself comfortable in a corner of the sofa, Mike tucked into his side. Both asleep. Gertrude had a sinking feeling that the other would be staying more inside. 

She had been right as the cat was still in the house a week later. This time curled up on a table, watching Gertrude with the sleepy yellow eyes. She looked between the still unnamed cat and the food she was making and decided to name the cat Oliver. She was not very fond of ‘Olive’ just because he looked similar at the moment.

Hey, for the PNAT crossover thing, would some TMA crossover be any good? Perhaps Elias with green energy and a pair of glasses as a tool, some sort of mind-reading owl spirit to fit the Magnus Institute logo maybe? ALTERNATIVELY: Jon with white energy being a medium for a freaky powerful eye spirit, and/or a tape recorder being a tool with truth powers? THE SPHYNX OF TRUTH PERHAPS? sorry im galaxy braining with weird ideas as im writing this lmao

I just did Jon and Martin for now, although I might draw other later ^-^ I’ve actually had ideas for this au for a bit now!

(Martin was specifically requested by @nadja-855 and his design is inspired by @tolbyccian’s)

The gist of what I have so far is that Jon is the medium to some really powerful spirit - maybe a wight? Gertrude was initially the medium, but refused to use spectral abilities and therefore starved it. Jonah killed her so it could find a most suitable host - Jon, and hence his ‘promotion’.

The assistants closeness to Jon eventually leads to the whole crew being Spectrals and trying to figure out what’s in Jon and how to stop it while also dealing with attacks (orchestrated by Jonah to force Jon to use his abilities).

Martin probably doesn’t use tools much, preferring spectshots and such, but there’s no shortage! Artifact Storage has tools as well as dangerous items - most if not all of that team end up Spectrals, Sasha included and actually being the first Spectral of the archive team.

His mother was skeptical on dating around while she was in a place of uncertainty in her marriage but with a deep discussion with her husband, then her children, she slowly went forward just to see what was out there & found that she wasn’t sure if she’d be open permanently with other beings

Seb was similar to his mother in many ways...

Has a older sister by 2 years named, Xenia...she’s very bossy, a busy-body, & is very vocal. The opposite of seb

she used to beat up guys just for them to turn around and ask her out on dates, a few of them tried to bully seb but Xenia was not having that ofc

very close to his family, even if things are a little off between mum & dad

I feel like he went through a buzzed hair phase & when he finally made the choice to start growing out his hair, going on 4-5 years now, everyone seemed to approve

Even if they didn’t? It be no matter, sure he’d feel a little awkward if someone he cared about didn’t like it but he was sure they would get over it OR get used to it

The hair only comes out when he’s showering or going to bed

His best friend who’s a barber (and a bit of a douche) tells him he’s got to let his hair breathe more often or he’ll have breakage, seb doesn’t think it’s that serious? He’s not sure how much longer he’ll keep the bun now anyways...

This same friend encouraged him to get a “Pompadour” haircut & seb’s never been so offended before in his life, “I wouldn’t want to look like the rest of you knob-heads.”

Anyways, he takes care of his hair the best way he knows how and it seems to work for him...some slightly expensive haircare products here and there & a trimmer & he’s good to go

When he first started growing his hair out, he felt like he needed to go to the salon to know how to manage it. After awhile he learned how to do it on his own + you save $ that way

uses his hands to talk or holds one hand in the other when having a conversation since he doesn’t know what to do with his hands exactly

He’s a chapstick kinda guy who always loses his before he can finish it (been there)

Absolutely loves Japanese food and eats it almost everyday

Japanese Mayo is the superior condiment, bill can stfu!!

He wanted to keep all 5 of the kittens but knew he probably couldn’t, at least not forever but he was going to wait until they were all at least a few months before he decided to put them up for adoption...which sucks but would ultimately be the best choice, maybe???

likes black nail polish but is slightly embarrassed to be seen out with it, it’s the same thing with the eyeliner...he’s not that confident

The slit in his brow came from trying to squeeze thru the broken patio glass door with his sis as if it were some booby trap (not exactly, but a safety hazard forsure!) & a piece of glass fell from above slicing his brow and left him with 4 stitches

Secretly into watching those dating shows before and after experiencing it himself

people he enjoyed seeing on the Telly from previous seasons: jen, jake, talia, erikah, lottie, Noah, Carl, Kassam, Priya, & Hannah

AJ is his best girl friend (besides vieve) they FaceTime quite a bit & chat shit to each other on the daily

Feels like she fits in well with his friend group, which just contains his barber friend — they put up with his banter & give it right back to him but he can also be vulnerable & comfortable with those around him so that’s always a plus

It’s the same with nick, except they share a hobby together, their podcast & that’s what seb wants to keep it as, a hobby, for fun & giggles yet nick is thinking about getting paid for what they do. He thinks it’s a great idea whereas seb doesn’t want this to turn into a career/chore

How are things outside of the villa & since the boat party? They all have a group chat that they randomly speak up in, in the beginning they would do morning and goodnight texts but that became tedious so they settled for either or. This one is more my friend's headcanon but I love it immensely.

Georgie didn't want to have cat hair all over her house, so The Admiral is a Sphynx.

But Jon has long hair. So when he was crashing with Georgie, for the first time in a long while, she kept finding hair around the house that wasn't hers.

A light hearted confrontation goes.

Jon: Well how do you know it wasn't the Admiral?

The Admiral: (meows, clearly still hairless)

Georgie: ...

Jon: ....

Georgie: ..So what was that about-

Jon: Yes, fine, I'll be more careful.

And then Georgie picks my The Admiral and cooes, "how dare he put the blame on you, that mean old man~~" and Jon accepts his fate.

also idk shit about dog breeds, i listed some specific dog breeds. however FUCK breeders.

Georgie: 100% cat person. Anything that enjoys being carried around in a baby sling.

Jon: BIG fan of long hair cats. SOMFT. Also orange cats and maine coons. LOTS OF SOMFT.

Sahsa: loves absurdly large dogs. has a great dane and No personal space.

Tim: Does Not Like Dogs, especially big ones. however, Danny and Sasha were both big dog / sleeping with big dog people so he knows how to deal. really likes cats tho, the Chonkier the Better. prefers short hair cats bc unlike Jon he’s realistic abt his grooming abilities.

Martin: f r e n c h. b u l l d o g. wishes he had one and would run an instagram account for it (he’s probably allergic to dogs 😔). knits tiny sweaters for puppies in his free time.

Agnes: Jude is lowkey freaked out by big dogs but Agnes was a fan of big, drool-y dogs. the more drool the better. must have jowls. like an english mastiff type of big, drool-y, saggy dog. the whole cult would’ve been like hell no.

Michael: sphynx cats again they are Weird.

Helen: WEIRD DOG. either mop dog komondors or russian grandma borzois.

Jared: as if show dog competitions aren’t flesh aligned. he has fifteen award-winning Very Luxurious maltese dogs.

Mike: has used the vast for playing frisbee. australian shepherd kind of dude.

Simon: crazy old cat grandpa who has also used the vast for playing (but with the laser pointer). fucks HARD with bubble backpacks.

Oliver: ;aksjdf;laksjdf weird dogs but chunky. I want him to have a shar pei. sounds like Sharpay and looks Wild.

Annabelle: also sphynx cats. in a lot of sphynx cat fb groups where she makes a lot of memes.

Manuela: surprisingly dogs. must be black bc aesthetic. briard sounds pretentious and edgy. also so much hair they have No Eyes.

Julia and Trevor: dogs because hunt, definitely have like two bonded active dogs that love to chase shit. fox terriers? they are funky looking.
