Creating a soulslike where all of the endings are turbo-horny in wildly incompatible ways and watching the fandom argue about which one is the "good ending".

I think dark souls games were onto something when they decided that the only way for your character to get stronger was to kneel in front of a girl

Why are they called "From Soft," but people say their games are "Too Hard?"

I look at the absolutely insane nutcase drama happening with... other popular games of 2023 and it makes me happy to be a Lies of P fan.
Like yea souls fans can be toxic for other shit, like over PVP or summons or difficulty.
But at least souls fans don't tell you that you should *end your own life* if you chose the Real Boy ending instead of Rise of P.

The nine free Dark Souls dynamic themes on the Japanese PS3 PS Store--and the 12 free Dark Souls II avatars. Some of the themes have very subtle animation and don't perform their main animation for a long time--up to six minutes may pass before the animated event occurs.

It won't be all Hetalia on here btw. But mostly Hetalia. Here you have a fanart of my favourite youtuber with some Elden Ring stuff! His name is Zombey and the gentleman in front is pretty much his avatar / how he is typically drawn (with some fancy stuff bc I love fancy stuff) The painting in the background shows his Elden Ring character Zombo 28th standing on the head of the fire giant. (Honestly I tried splattering the armor with blood as well but I couldnt make it good so I just kept it clean. I mean, I could interpret deeply symbolic stuff in that decision but I won't. I could tho)

Lies of P is the best soulslike I've ever played. It is one of my game of the year contenders and can easily match the quality of FromSoft titles. You play as P, a humanoid puppet who has awoken to the aftermath of the Puppet Frenzy. The City of Krat, a once bustling utopia, has been reduced to empty streets filled with bodies and it's your job to figure out what caused the frenzy. The story and world draw heavy inspiration from the story of Pinocchio, and it's pretty well done mature adaptation. Seeing what ideas they connect from Pinnochio and Soulsborne into the game while also forming an identity of it's own. It's a really intriguing narrative and it's more comprehensible than most soulslikes out there. One that explores what it means to be human. Gameplay-wise it's incredibly well designed and there's a lot of things I actually prefer more so than the Souls series. There's a weapon assembly system that allows you to swap the heads and handles of weapons to change their moveset, attack damage, and stat scaling. So you are free to experiment with what you have and thankfully upgrade materials become plentiful by the end. You have the ability to refill a healing charge if you are out if you perform well enough which pushes you have an active playstyle and makes boss fights more intense. There's a rally mechanic like Bloodborne tied to blocking instead of getting hit, there's parrying, and even though sometimes the game feels parry focused it doesn't mean that's your only option. Dodging works, blocking still works, and you have to alternate between moves if you want to survive. There's just so much I want to talk about. Absolutely love this game and it has quickly become one of my favorites. If you love soulslike or the Soulsborne series then I strongly recommend this masterpiece. Here's a link to my full review of Lies of P.

Soulslike where every humanoid foe sticks to the usual ponderous strike-and-parry routine, except for one random nameless generic skeleton whose moveset is straight Devil May Cry shit. There is absolutely no lore explaining or justifying this.

This is a pretty special week for me. My 50-follower celebration starts, as well as my first collab with another vtuber. As a veteran I get to show a new player to Dark Souls 1 and inevitably die to all the changes the mod makes. I'm also going to be doing lots of anatomy practise as I'm keenly aware that while I'm size 'wonderful' I don't know much about body shapes from a construction standpoint, and I want to understand it better. I've also separated my youtube accounts into VoDs and everything else so there might be custom content coming out there soon.

Since the last time I posted about specific games there's been, like, two dozen I could longpost about in several different groupings. Since I almost never find any conversation from posting about and analyzing up such individual obscura, I'm just throwing out some discoursive thoughts that’d come up from such.
The arguing and joking over strict definitions of roguelikes constantly confuses trappings versus play dynamics. On the inclusive end, there’s frequently missing that procedural generation is much more a macro term than a micro term- repositioning banana peels or infinite bats means very little actually changing run to run compared to changing build passives, player verbs, bosses fought, or branch biomes. On the exclusionary end of things, genre hybrids have been popping up all the time and lumping them together because of their shared dynamic while skipping out on their individual genre-crossover points components is horrendously useless, creating a mélange of “real-time”, “metaprogression”, and “not a fantasy murderfest on a grid” all on one end and the deification of thirty-year-old design philosophies on the other. Necrodancer has better level generation than Nethack, for gods’ sake, while the proliferation of experience points and skill trees somehow don’t make people argue Borderlands corrupts people’s assessment of Dragon Quest.
Next to no non-From soulslikes have any hostile terrain much further than ledgework, somehow. While this isn't inherently required for the arc of "slow and deliberate non-linear dungeon delving action of non-introductory difficulty", the combinatorics such provide feel pretty crucial to make the game length dredging work, a direly pressing front when each of From's games themselves still have extremely obvious areas running out of budget and variety. It's still strange to see a bunch of cowardly devs skip on memes like instantly-betraying NPCS, boulders, and poison swamps to copy solely "a king and or some researchers did something Bad to Everything, so you must roll through (and not realize it's better to roll away from) a million swords", though, nonetheless.
Multiple entire genres have repeatedly enshrined making different types of flashing lights wreck a single harmless enemy type reskinned constantly and spawning in the hundreds. Multiple other mediums sure demonstrate constantly-updating, flickering ephemera is all many overworked, overwhelmed people need. Whatever genre (and name) spawns off from Vampire Survivors isn't innately morally unethical and also much cheaper than reenacting the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but evidently lacking the big industry money of either sure has left a lot of different people’s work in inevitable obscurity. (Maybe they’ll eventually converge back onto shooter roguelikes, maybe not.)
Trying to externally parse "immersive sim" when it describes a design ideology instead of a dynamics structure any more tangible than “branching plot with multiple solutions” feels like people saying a genre forms out of core components like "stealing from shops", “unidentified potions”, "ambushes from blind corners", or “rerolling choices of four every minute”. Admittedly, an industry and culture somehow formed up from “gambling real money for pictures of tits to autofight with” (though with notable success eventually hybridizing to other genres- somehow over here there's not nearly as controversy, huh).

my soulslike/souls game tier list based on my personal experience with difficulty
honestly as much as I love Lies of P it's absolutely the most forgiving and easiest Soulslike I've ever played. There's a lot of features that basically give the game an easy mode, but even without them the game really isn't that hard, outside of a handful of bosses. The actual areas are not difficult to traverse-- compare this to Fromsoft's games where I could name multiple separate instances where I would get walled or repeatedly die to specific areas in specific levels. LoP doesn't do level design as well as From in my opinion.
I still have nightmares about the fucking Djura machine gun run in Old Yharnam.
