Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Superstars: a recap of all the major details from Gamescom 2023

During the latest Gamescom 2023 opening broadcast, two brand new trailers were published for Sonic Superstars and Sonic Frontiers. Here's what we know with all the information out so far.

Sonic Superstars

The highly anticipated platformer Sonic Superstars now has a confirmed launch date of 17 October, with the title available for pre-order physically and digitally for current consoles and Steam. The title is priced at $60.00 USD.

The newest trailer has a focus on the multiplayer experience the game will offer, showing off the local co-op and the Battle Mode. The main campaign can be played via a drop-in and drop-out local co-op, and for those interested, a Battle Mode for the game was also revealed, and with it, the player can either compete with three other players locally or challenge up to seven other players online.

Following the tradition of titles like Sonic Colours Ultimate and Sonic Origins, Sonic Superstars will also have a Digital Deluxe edition, which includes the base game, a LEGO Fun Pack with LEGO character skins for Amy, Tails and Knuckles and LEGO-themed levels for Battle Mode, as well as extra content including a special Sonic Rabbit inspired by Sonic's original character design, Mecha Sonic parts for Battle Mode, exclusive wallpapers, a digital artbook and a mini-OST for $69.99 USD.

Fans can pre-order the Physical and Digital Standard or Digital Deluxe editions of Sonic Superstars ahead of launch at the official website to receive an exclusive in-game LEGO Eggman character skin. It also was confirmed that every single version of Sonic Superstars will feature a free LEGO Sonic skin.

Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon

The highly successful Sonic Frontiers received a brand new trailer for Gamescom as well, teasing the upcoming third update for the game, named The Final Horizon. The update is coming later this year, 28 September. Players can look forward to new story content, new challenges and after years of wait, the ability to play as Tails, Amy and Knuckles in a 3D Sonic game.

According to the Japanese press release, in this new update, a new campaign set on Ouranos Island will be added, and Amy, Knuckles, and Tails will be available as playable characters. Taking advantage of their special moves, players can witness new gimmicks and missions, and experience a different ending from the main story.

Sonic Frontiers is available now for current consoles and Steam.

Your hottest Sonic takes?

Most of these are ones you'll already know, but here goes. I'll number them in no real order because bullet points always get lumped together when I use them no matter how I space them, which bothers me lol. And as always, these are just the ones that come immediately to mind, as I'm sure to have plenty more (I'm not a contrarian for contrarian's sake, I swear D:).

1. Just because I take faithfulness to the game canon seriously - hence my disapproval for adaptations that change shit for the sake of changing shit out of a misplaced sense of superiority - doesn't mean I think the game canon is perfect. Putting aside the obvious questionable quality of certain installments, there are also certain traditions in the games that I don't exactly appreciate, and refuse to tolerate them just because I'm apparently expected to (ie: the friends standing around being cheerleaders while Super Sonic does his thing, Eggman being usurped and/or forced to team up with Sonic so damn often, characters having a limited range of interactions with other characters, certain characters being rather obnoxiously OP, etc).

2. IDW Sonic is still a holier than thou asswipe whose actions and overall behaviour don't line up with how great and virtuous he supposedly is. Prime Sonic is still an unbearable dumbass, and the show and characters are grilling him for the completely wrong reasons.

3. If your only idea for redeeming Tails is making him a yes-man for Sonic, then I don't think you actually care about Tails aside from how good he makes Sonic look.

4. Shadow coming back after his not-death doesn't undermine SA2's ending. But him coming back so soon afterwards kind of does. They should have waited a lot longer before bringing him back.

5. Rouge is not a villain. Rouge is not a villain. Rouge is not a villain. And outside of her jewel obsession, she's not even that majorly anti-heroic after SA2.

6. Eggman is a villain. Eggman is a villain. Eggman is a villain. And you can flesh him out without softening him up. Pre-Frontiers games already did it FFS.

7. Just because Cream is a little girl, and acts appropriately for the most part compared to Tails, doesn't mean she should be infantilized by the other characters and by the writing. She's more capable than she's given credit for.

8. Merlina isn't that amazing. Better than the Mephiles-tier villains of course, but she still fell short of her unique concept.

9. Erazor Djinn AKA Qui-Gon Djinn AKA Tonic Djinn AKA Other Djinn Pun is the best villain who isn't Eggman, an Eggman robot, affiliated with Eggman, or Chaos.

10. I've made my apathy for Silver well known during the last few days cause of all the IDW Silver discourse, but I'll take it one spicier step further: when people defend him by saying he earned his place, I think "...Did he?"

Make no mistake, he absolutely does not deserve to be treated like garbage by the IDW crew either way, but compared to other recurring game characters, including similarly divisive ones like Shadow, I've always felt as though he was shoehorned into later games because he was already set to as the hot new character of the initially anticipated '06, rather than earning his place more organically if you get me. And when people say how awesome it was that he almost killed Sonic effortlessly twice in '06, I ask myself when Sonic getting textbook Worf'd in a game with his name on it was considered a good thing. I mean, is that the level of '06 stanning we're at now?

Or maybe I'm just letting my bitterness at (IMO) better characters remaining one-offs do the talking. I'm willing to admit that I am indeed bitter about that. :P (Also, I'd like to apologise to Silver fans for harping on about him like this a lot as of late. I really have nothing against his level-headed fans, and I still sympathise with them on his poor treatment in the comics despite my apathy towards him.)

11. Forces is one of Eggman's best showings despite the underutilized premise. That fans' only idea for "fixing" the game is usurping him with Infinite and/or the Phantom Ruby says a lot about how much they want him to be out of the way.

12. I don't understand why the in-game racing banter in TSR is taken so seriously. Speaking as someone who otherwise takes characterization very seriously, this is like if people started shitting on Mario Kart because of Luigi's death stare.

13. Other games are objectively worse (like '06 and Chronicles), but Frontiers is my personal least favourite Sonic game for... well, nearly everything about it. And neither Sage or The End are as deep or as fans make them out to be.

14. At this point, I separate the IDW characters into two categories. The first category consists of the characters who I just hate or find lame full stop (Surge and Kit, Rough and Tumble, Mimic). The second category consists of the characters that I think could have had potential if it weren't for the awful writing, that I begrudgingly feel somewhat bad for as a result, and as such would be willing to attempt to redeem if I could (Tangle, Whisper, Lanolin, Starline before he got turned into Toothpaste Snively).

15. I respect Daniel Barnes, his work and understanding of Sonic's character in particular is certainly of a higher quality than that of Flynn and Stanley, and he also has more integrity to be sure. But I can't currently buy into the full hype since I wasn't that interested in Scrapnik Island, and since I'm very cautious of the golden pedestal mentality, since that's how people like Flynn got as far as they have in the first place, I really wish the fans who are as tired of Flynn and Co's antics as I am would keep that in mind.

16. I prefer What I'm Made Of over Live & Learn.

17. I'm not a literal "Classic Good, Modern Bad" type of fan, but the things that I appreciate most about Sonic games tend to be associated more in the public consciousness - at least in terms of gameplay, use of playable characters, and aesthetics - with classic and classic-in-spirit games.

18. AoStH is better than SatAM because it had Long John Baldry. *dab* And SatAM was the first serious split in the franchise, and the influence of said split continues to this day with the Freedom Fighter stans and their desire to make everything like SatAM/Archie, meaning I wholeheartedly wish this show never existed. *double dab*

19. I don't have a guilty pleasure, because that would imply I feel any guilt for enjoying them. I enjoy 3D Blast as a fun little time waster without any shame, and I have ironic enjoyment for ShtH, also without any shame.

20. If you use mandates as an excuse for bad writing, I officially cannot trust anything you have to say on the writing, the characters, and probably the entire franchise.

This “debunking” thread missed all the points tkkrs were trying to point out. It’s not about them hanging out with friends or another bts members but taekook choosing to spend time together whether with friends or alone. The atomix, run bts challenge, the photo of them in mom and dad outfits, all the outings they had with friends and members, them being together is what it’s all about. That james corden photobooth photo, yes, they were with members but the fact that they had a photo just the two of them while tae was on Jk’s lap and him posting it on his IG is what makes it special. And that Golden listening party that jm posted, yeah, jm and rm were there, but again, the fact that they took photos together, just the two of them, is what makes it more meaningful. Even if the atomix was a group dinner, it doesn’t make any difference coz jk still chose to post the photos of him and tae.

Sure most of these taekook moments were of them and their friends, just like the SS and HS concerts, but the fact that they were glued to each other, tending to each other, is what makes a difference. Jm was there in the HS concert but we never saw him holding hands with JK. JM could’ve chosen to go on the second day of the silk sonic concert coz JK was still under quarantine, but he chose to go with Yoongi and RM. what kinda bf is that? He could also go with JK on Yoongi’s SK concert, or at least go home with him, but taekook arrived and left together.

We are not trying to belittle jkk’s bond by pointing these things out, but the OP who made this thread, also Georgia, who couldn’t include any jkk photo outside of hybe contents, just completely missed the point of us saying taekook spend time privately. By private doesn’t mean just the two of them, but them spending time together outside work. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Them being present in each other’s lives!

When JM was asked by Jimmy Fallon whom he talked to a lot or spent time (I forgot the exact question) and JM answered Hobi and Suga, so their excuse of Jm being busy that’s why JK spent time with Tae is just bs. Hobi even said he played games with jm. At the end of the day, regardless of their relationship, taekook are still the closest members since pre-debut days. It doesn’t take being a taekooker to know this.

Yep! Exactly, anon. They're obviously purposely missing the point of all those moments because it's not hard to see what makes them special. Even when they're with the other members, they still post photos of just the two of them. They still cling together and hang all over each other. They still single each other out. They still chose to spend so much time together when it isn't necessary. They still chose to share their music with each other first.

And Jungkook hanging out with wooga squad is a perfect example of how integrated they are into each others' lives.

So j*kookers have two options at the end of the day. They can either play dumb, or they can acknowledge taekook's bond...

So which comic/game/animated show has your favorite portray of Shadow (and also Amy)?

Don’t worry, there’s a tl;dr at the bottom.

Shadow: This is basic, but probably Sonic Adventure 2. Great character arc, great interactions with other characters, and my favorite Shadow character model of all time. Nothing compares to the flashy, structured look of Shadow’s quills in that one, and the animation of his skating is so much more effective in SA2 compared to more recent iterations. It’s no wonder he looked so cool in that game. He actually leaned into the strides like a confident speed skater. Some games and shows just have him push his feet forward, like he’s kicking his way through snow. It’s rarely slick like it used to be. He also has his best voice actor in that game (IMO). Sinister when he needed to be, calm and sincere when the time called for it, and he had just a hint of an accent that I’ve always liked for Shadow. I’ve never fully forgiven them for taking David Humphrey away from us after only...what, two or three games? Unforgivable.

Close second for Shadow is Sonic Heroes. I think that’s a less common choice, but it showcases some of Shadow’s best traits, sets him up with his Found Family, and proves he’ll do the right thing for the planet even when he doesn’t remember Maria at all. He’s good because he’s him, and even with the uncertainty of his memory loss, he seemed happier there than he does almost anywhere else. I like to think this is how Shadow would be if the ARK massacre had never happened: serious, heroic, but mostly carefree. I don’t agree that Shadow should have stayed dead after SA2, but if he’d never regained his memories at all and just moved forward with his life from there...idk. He was on the right track before he remembered G.U.N. ruined his life. At the very least, I think there’s a good chance he’d be legitimately happier. It’s worth thinking about. Oh, and David Humphrey voices him in this one, too. A+.

Honorable mention: his absolutely absurd appearances in the bizarre Sonic Dash and Spin comic. He’s portrayed as a delinquent...

...but he’s so deeply, wonderfully weird about it:

This isn’t even factoring in the CANON crush Amy has on him, though that certainly doesn’t hurt:

Dash and Spin is definitely the kind of comic you’ll connect with more if you know a bit about Japanese culture. I’m not surprised it wasn’t pushed in the US.

As for Amy, I think my favorite was Adventure Era Amy. She had the perfect blend of bravery and compassion. IDW Amy is great because she’s cool and can defend herself, but her bravery meant so much more when she couldn’t do that. She was the weakest on the battlefield with barely any strength to her name, but she always stepped up anyway. It also fed well into moments like the climax of SA2 because an ordinary girl who was counted out even by her own friends could still make a difference. I’ll never begrudge IDW or the pre-Frontiers comics for giving her the strength she’s rightfully earned by now, dammit, but I’m divided on this.

I also love Heroes Amy. She wasn’t OP like she is now, but she had a few new tricks up her sleeve, and they were hers alone. Propeller Hammer? Tornado Hammer? Her unique style of leadership through positivity that led even a fisherman, a child, and a Chao to victory? Damn impressive while still being believable for her skill and experience level at the time. She was making progress her way, not just through brute force. I usually prefer Lisa Ortiz as Amy’s VA, but Jennifer Douillard does a great job here. I think she’s at her best voicing Amy in Heroes. She finally got to be something other than just sweet.

The elephant in the room is her sudden, uh...aggression toward Sonic. Luckily, this is softened in the Japanese version. English gave us this:

“This time, there’s no way out of marrying me!”

...but in Japanese, it’s this:

“Sonic! Today’s the day I’ll get you to marry me!!”

It’s still too pushy, but she’s not saying “I’ll force you to marry me.” She’s saying “You’ll be so impressed with how far I’ve come that you’ll want to marry me.” It’s subtle, but it’s so much better, especially because Sonic pretends to lose and literally flees from her afterward while yelling, “Marriage?! No way!”

Lmao, what a coward. And Cream knows it.

Localization slandered Amy Rose in a horrible, permanent way IMO. It was after Heroes that the fandom decided she was a “crazy psycho fangirl.” It’s taken years for her to shake off that stigma, and I feel like she lost a lot of her spark in the process, at least in the games.

Thank God she still has it in Mega Drive and IDW.

I’m not the only one who feels Sega threw the baby out with the bathwater. Amy looks and acts too soft now if you ask me.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

21 at this point (and I’m sure glad you’re not asking about older platforms because uhhhh. My FFN era was terrifying)

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

257,205. Huh.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Welp, Re-Animator, currently. But the majority of my works is a result of a powerful The Owl House obsession, and I do have another TOH fic in the making. Star Trek, though it’s really odd how little Trek fic there is on my account – I guess that’s because most of my hyperfixation went into the papers I published on the franchise.

Terra Ignota my beloved, but the books are so incredibly well-written, I get scared whenever I want to write anything about those characters. Everything I do is going to suck in comparison (and the one fic I did write indeed sucks balls). I had some flings with Sonic (kek), Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and before that, Phineas and Ferb. In the pre-AO3 era, The Penguins of Madagscar (a fic after which I stopped writing for almost a decade), Discworld, Kick-Ass (my first English-language fic; what a trainwreck), Invader Zim, Storm Hawks (oh boy), Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Sherlock Holmes (the original, ACD one), Teen Titans, and some insane amounts of insanely bad, angsty Xiaolin Showdown fics with insane ships and insanely bad characterization. Look, I was 15. I’m pretty sure there was even more, and I can only be grateful that I don’t remember.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Oddly enough, Inhale, Hold, Exhale with over 1,1k, even though it was just an ultimate traumadump. Then, A Silver Platter (992), A Comparative Study in Redemption Arcs (789), The Matter at Hand (778), and The Deal (718).

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! First, they make me happy and I’m grateful for them. But it’s also just a polite thing to do, and honestly? when I want to comment under a fic and I see OP doesn’t respond to comments, sometimes I shrug and decide kudos will suffice (not proud of myself for doing that, but oh well).

There were some comments I left unanswered, but those were from people I know IRL and I answered them somewhere else, or they were hate comments. Aaaand some comments I left unanswered back when I didn’t know it was possible to answer on AO3, and now answering them would be too awkward.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I write almost exclusively angst, so it’s more of a question about the specific flavor. I guess the biggest number of characters suffer miserably in a very mundane way in A Potter’s Field. In The Deal, the main character suffers in a very mundane way to such an extent, he willingly chooses to be possessed just to feel useful, so there’s that. Both stories have been bookmarked by people with notes such as “jesus fucking christ dude” or just “JESUS CHRIST,” and thus, I consider my mission accomplished and people's days ruined.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

The Red Crayon. Even I couldn’t write angst about Doofenshmirtz and Perry the Platypus. Like, come on.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

YEAH BABEY. And I don’t mean the ‘I liked the fic, but there’s this thing I disagree with’ kind of comments, I mean the ‘this fic is terrible, have you ever watched the show?’ type of comments. The first time I got one like this, I was crying hysterically for two days.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not sure? This year, I did write some sex scenes or almost-sex-scenes, but the thing is, they were about everything but sex. And one of them was very, very awkward.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nnnope, and I hate those. But at one point, when I was very much into French Revolution, I had some grand plans for a Doctor Who fanfic in which Ten would meet Robespierre and realize he was a good guy.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don’t think so? I had my fanart and my photos stolen, yeah, but not fanfic.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope, though there was one person who asked if they could do that (I think they lost interest/didn’t have the time).

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yeah, back in middle school me and my friend ran a blog nobody read, and it was about two Discworld OCs. It was horrible.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Spones (Spock/Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy). I will go down with it. I’m married to it. I’ve been happily married to it for half of my lifetime (and the entirety of my adult life).

I like other ships in other fandoms, especially the ones with a similar dynamic. Spones, though, is the archetype.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

A Star Trek fic about Spock being unable to fully process the death of his pet sehlat, and that fact influencing his approach to animals in the years to come. I’m quite happy with what I have – for instance, there are five pages of Spock and McCoy arguing over the factors that make animals cute, with Spock being super scientific and judgemental, and McCoy having a gotcha! moment when Spock says axolotls are not cute.

I started writing it when I learned about my beloved cat’s diabetis. Then he died, I had a massive depressive episode, and now it’s been almost two years and I still cry because I miss him and he deserved so much better. And perhaps I would be able to finish the fic, given that half of my fics are traumadumps anyway, but I have no idea how this thing is even supposed to end.

16. What are your writing strengths?

POV and characters not knowing things that the audience knows

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Getting to the point. Or, like, having any point.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Erm. Everything I write is in another language. English is not my native language, I never had private lessons, I still don’t understand how the tenses or the punctuation work. But in case of Luz and Camila, I do tend to use Spanish words or expressions from time to time.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Okay, so back when I was 7, I had no idea fanfic existed or that you could just use the names and locations somebody else created, so I was writing stuff that was very much the terf-created wizard boy and very much Lord of the Rings, but like. With different names. The headmaster of the magical school was named fucking Ambli Dimbli. The first fanfic that I knew that was a fanfic, though, was for Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

The Matter at Hand. It’s not my most popular fic, it doesn’t have my favorite TOH character in it, but it’s about politics and scapegoating, and it has puns in it. And I’m really proud of how everyone in this story sucks. I like it when characters suck.

• How did you come up with the OC's name?

I had like 3 different OCs named Echo at a time, as a kind of placeholder. It just ended up sticking! Before that though, his name was Aura.

• How old are they? (Or approximate age range)

About 16!

• Do they have any love interest(s)?

She's in a relationship with a different OC of mine named Nea (short for Neapolitan), and has a close Queer Platonic Relationship with another OC named B0lt!

• What is their favorite food?

He loves strawberry things! (Though if you ask her, she'll just say whatever you like)

• What do they do for a living?

He works part-time at his girlfriend's sweet shop! Though her main profession is a secret, even to her!

• Do they have any hobbies?

She likes singing and reading and learning about history!

• What do they do best?

Echo is SUPER good at reading people and accurately copying their mannerisms and personality. He can also copy people's looks, but that's a bit more tricky due to how memory works when it comes to visual stuff like colours.

• What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?

Loves: reading, singing, finding out new history

Hates: having to search out her OWN history due to amnesia. He finds his own life much more boring and frankly annoying than other people's.

• What is one of your OC's best memories?

She doesn't have many to go off of, but it's a tie between him and B0lt catching fireflies and her ace-ing some hard test. He's not too sure why that one fills him with so much pride.

• What is one of your OC's worst memories?

She has a memory of her being in some type of tube with wires connected to her, and a group of people messing around with them until her form shifted. That one makes his head hurt

• Is their current design the first one?

Besides a few changes, pretty much! Unless we're counting the old designs of the oc I took this old design from, then no. GOD no. This is like the 7th one if we count that.

• What originally inspired the OC?

If I remember correctly, he was created because I REALLY liked this random anime character from an anime I never even watched? I still haven't found the character in question, though. Oh! Also because he had ice magic originally (why the fur is blue and white)

• What genre do they belong in?

Either a Mystery Comedy, or a Horror Mystery, to be honest. Depends on the vibes she's giving that day.

• What is your OC's gender identity and sexuality?

Genderfluid (Uses he/she). Mainly because haha cats are liquid but also because well. He's literally a fluid due to how his shapeshifting works. Get it? She's also demi!

• How many siblings does your OC have?

He was the oldest of 7. She doesn't remember much about any of them.

• What is the OC's relationship w/ their parents like?

He doesn't remember it being good. Her only memory of them is an arguement she cant remember the words of. Only that he ran out while they yelled.

• What do you like most about the OC?

God I love writing a character without worrying about them being out of character. She acts like whoever she's interacting with/copying and that's SO fun. Also writing someone else seeing that SOMETHING'S off with him but they cant tell what is something that can be so enjoyable

• How often do you draw/write about the OC?

I have so many doodles and mini comics but most of them are me throwing ideas into thin air. Maybe I'll share some of them during the showdown!

• Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC?

I don't think I CAN kill him to be honest. Not to sound OP but I genuinely think she could live without most organs (although not. Un-painfully) due to her shapeshifting power. (This COULD change though, I'm still ironing out the kinks of how his stuff works.

• Does your OC have any phobias?

He's horrified of stasis. The idea of being locked/frozen makes him panic super bad.

• Who is your OC's arch-nemesis/rival?

She doesn't have one actually? There's this character I have called Hero who looks for him for mysterious reasons but that's about it.

Since I was about 12! I only started actively using her in 2021 though.

(HI BLUE!!!) I've never failed to notice how mistreated and/or bullied silver has been in the comics and games, so what if he went evil over a long period of time? With the words "Do better" and "get out of my sight" thrown at him (especially in archie) I have a feeling he wouldnt exactly love it tbh.

Hello! ^-^ If I'm being quite honest, that is one of the things I really did not like about the pre-reboot Archie comics. Not only is Silver a dumbass who rudely accuses people left and right with very limited and lacking information as his guide (which is still somewhat understandable since his future was in ruin and only few people in the past seemed remotely willing to help), I just... Heck, I hate how they characterised Sonic there. Sonic wouldn't do the things he did to Silver in Archie, plain and simple. He'd eventually get irked, yes, but what I appreciate about Sonic in the games is that in '06, he's quick to accept Silver's change of heart and sees that he only means well for the future, and in Rivals he remains his chipper self most of the time even when Silver is being blunt. And they make up, and Silver clearly respects Sonic at the end of both games! I cannot see either of those Sonics drag Silver throughout an entire town by his quills to throw him head-first into a hospital bed. Nor would Sonic from the games tell Silver to fuck off in such a manner. And that whole thing with Lanolin in IDW has left quite a sour taste in my mouth too, not gonna lie. If there is anyone who needs to 'do better' it is her, with the complete life-threatening failure of a first mission concluded under her leadership and her general bossy personality she is aware of yet makes no improvements on to change for the better. So yeah, Silver is indeed the no-respect guy from both comics. It's just not fun to see such things happen to my favourite character, especially because the other characters are either being wildly OOC assholes or in-character assholes to facilitate it. But that was a bit of a rant, apologies.

Still, I do not think Silver would turn outright evil. I can see him become more withdrawn and even more short-tempered, with the decision that if people are so unwilling to help him he'll just have to go completely solo and take matters into his own hands quickly following. And that would actually cause a lot more trouble for the heroes, because Silver has mostly no qualms against murder, is highly OP so very difficult to defeat in a fight where he is giving his all, is more deceivable than most others and thus might be entirely on the wrong path despite he himself believing he is doing the right thing, etcetera. His intentions would still be heroic, but his actions would be more anti-hero- or even villainous-like. Which is unfortunate, because with only one or two good conversations where he is taken seriously and maybe some brawls to knock some sense into him, none of it would have been necessary in the first place. But yes, I can imagine he is hurt and bothered by how he gets brushed off by the heroes, and that is a prime situation for him to go do things by himself if no-one takes him seriously. And that could cause more trouble than it is worth... Hmm, I cannot see someone like Archie!Sonic apologise for not listening and taking Silver seriously, but who knows what we'll get in IDW when the whole plotline with Duo/Mimic is resolved. We'll only be sure once the issues have been released, for better or for worse.

#UGH and then he FINALLY gets the right person and the SUPER GENESIS WAVE happened so all his mistreatment was for NOTHING in Archie #unsatisfactory ending of the whole pre-super genesis wave really :/ #silver the hedgehog #and the thing is‚ I actually am quite happy with how *Silver* is characterised in IDW issue 63! #I've seen people point out some drawbacks that made me go like 'oh yes those are good points' but overall he's just really like how I- #imagine a good Silver is characterised (friendly and humble on one hand but a bit smug about his powers and not so adept at social things- #-like solving arguments) #it's just that Lanolin is unnecessarily bitchy despite NOT having the right to talk that way to the hero who saved the entire world and- #-Whisper suddenly doesn't dare speak up when Silver is getting scolded #and of course the fact that we already *know* Silver is completely in the right here but you know. we'll see what comes of that

Thinking again about Scourge's relative pre-Master Emerald power boost weakness and the relationship to power rings in Archie canon - it's established that 1) Archie Sonic is so OP partially because he's gathered so many power rings, 2) power rings are rarer on Moebius, and 3) like almost all chaos energy on Moebius, they have negative side effects.

Once again an in-canon explanation for why "Evil Sonic" was always kind of a joke before his transformation (the fact that he actually posed as much of a challenge to Sonic as he did is kind of a credit to him tbh) as well as a suggestion that Moebius was poisoned from the start - part of why people are just generally more awful there is likely because it's an inherently fucked up place.

Sonic Superstars will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 17, 2023.
