Mikhailgate explanation post!

In S4Vol.1 of Stranger Things, Dimitri Antonov, aka Enzo, has a heart to heart with Jim Hopper about his son, Mikhail.

We learned that Mikhail is a teenage boy who kinda resents Enzo and is intelligent, top of his class.

It was confirmed somewhere that no new characters are introduced in S5, but some argue this may not apply to characters who have been name-dropped.

A post by @paladin-n-cleric is the first to use an image of Boris Pavlikovsk8 from The Goldfinch, played by Finn Wolfhard(like Micheal) to represent Mikhail, claiming he was a love interest to Will Byers. This was quickly followed by fanart by @officialrobinbuckley, another notable contributer to the tag.

Mood boards, fanart, memes, Spotify playlists, and rp acc.s have been made surrounding this hypothetical Mikhail and his ships with Will and Micheal. He is often written into scenes from Boris's original source material, as well as iconic Byler scenes, usually butchered in a terrible written interpretation of a Russian accent.

Another interpretation of him is a Micheal's rival.

Mikhail is sometimes depicted with a mustache or glasses.

It is commonly accepted that Micheal is the only person who realizes how similar Mikhail looks to him, but it is not the only accepted canon.

Mikhail the og is thought to be a clone of Micheal as well as a number like El/Jane. Several other iterations of Micheal were invented for role-playing accounts (posting from their character's perspective) (tagged sthings rp) these Micheals are from alternative universe within the multiverse aka Wheeler-verse (tags are into the wheelerverse and wheelerverse of madness and willloveinterestgate) Notably including and Italian one who is a chronic flirt.

This is where I ask you personally: do not ship iterations of the sane character together!

We also came up with some Mikhail theories/hcs which I treat as canon.

The same Russians who eventually made the gate key in s3 attempted to recreate Dr.Brenner's experiment via cloning Hawkins citizens since Hawkins seems to attract power (like Henry/Vecna/001) including Mikhail, who was later adopted by Enzo/Dimitri (adoption/birth is not confirmed in the show) In S3, a Russian soldier mentions a Liutenant Mikhail, which I believe to be the very same Mikhail- at age 13.

It has also become somewhat commonplace to also tag mikhailgate posts as anti byler to deter certain unpleasant behaviors such as scrolling an anti tag

1) What made you decide to roleplay this muse?

I got into comics when I was in college and really enjoyed Ed Brubaker’s Bucky-centric runs, but the real push was that Oscar-nominated cinematic masterpiece, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I had such high hopes for the MCU after that movie. Unfortunately those hopes were not realized, but RP has given me the chance to write my own stories with Bucky instead of settling for the MCU’s schlock.

4) What made you decide on your URL name?

I used to have a very simple and straightforward url (jane-buchanan-barnes). But I’d been sitting on murder-popsicle for a few years because I thought it was funny, and when I moved Bucky from her old blog over to her new blog, I decided it was time for a change. I maintain that I have the best Bucky url on this hellsite.

9) Favorite three icons of your muse.

10) How do you feel about the interpretation of your character vs the fandom?

I try not to pay too much attention to the fanon surrounding Bucky, because so much of it is just. So bad. (I rant about this with @abrooklynboy a lot. Mr. Brubaker, do you see how they’ve massacred your boy?) At the risk of sounding arrogant, obviously I think my interpretation is better than the usual fan interpretation, or I wouldn’t be writing Bucky the way I do. She’s not a tragic woobie. She’s intelligent, competent, canny, and perfectly capable of functioning on her own without Steve to lean on. Yes, her life is better with Steve in it. But she is capable of standing on her own two feet.

DISCLAIMER: I just want to note here at the beginning that while I am considering this RP blog to be historically based, i.e. remaining true to the time period and overall details of John Laurens' biographical information and whatnot, I do not consider myself a historically accurate blog, not entirely. Historical fiction is a well known genre of literature and many, MANY creative liberties are taken within that genre. Think of this blog like you would if you saw an Anastasia Romanov blog. She's dead, we know she didn't survive, and she's been dead a long-ass time; so has Laurens. People still have included her in many works of fiction, even after her body was identified and it was proven she did not survive her family's massacre. I saw a romance book a couple of months ago where she survived that was recently published. Historical fiction, while a controversial thing at times, is a legitimate form of literature.

You don't have to tell me if you think John isn't acting exactly like the real man himself would have, I know that. I'm not going to call John my 'perfect sunshine boy cinnamon roll' or dismiss the privilege he was raised on due to his father, I'm aware he was a real person who had his own personality, virtues and prejudices. I won't deny that while he was certainly a progressive thinking man for the time he grew up in he definitely still had racist thoughts and actions that were indicative of his upbringing. But I'm not on here to debate modern, real life politics, or get into arguments about whether he was a good abolitionist or not. At the end of the day, this is still a hobby for me, and I'm writing for fun.

Basically, don't take it too seriously. I'm a 21st century bisexual woman writing from the POV of an 18th century (likely gay) male soldier, the way I write him is obviously not going to be a perfect representation of who he was. I know he wasn't an amazing, perfect person, but I've still chosen to write a fictionalized version of him for my own entertainment. Please try to respect that; thank you.

Hello, there! You can call me Luna! I've been interested in writing ever since I first got the internet when I was 14 and discovered FanFiction.Net and now I'm an aspiring author and Roleplay enthusiast. If you include acting/talking out DnD like games with friends then I've been 'roleplaying' since the fifth grade, but I like to think there's always room for improvement. RP Style

⭐️ Please use basic spelling/grammar/punctuation when you RP with me. I'm not a drill sergeant about these kinds of things, I know that typos happen, and if you have a vision problem or such we can absolutely find a way to work around that, I also have no problem roleplaying with people whose first language is not English, so that's totally fine and I’m happy to accomodate in whatever way I can, but it does make it a little difficult to play with you if I don't know what you're trying to say. For this reason I prefer if you not use any text shorthand (lol, idk, brb, jk, etc) unless our muses are messaging each other. Using it in the tags is fine.

⭐️ I roleplay Laurens in a past-tense 3rd Person Point of View (think story-telling format), and generally I don't use icons or text formatting unless I notice my partner does, then I will try to match their style (for example if you use icons and small-text, I will try to do the same, though because formatting isn't possible on mobile, any mobile replies might take longer to be posted than if I were on my laptop). If you have any issues with how I'm writing or need me to adjust my style for any reason don't be afraid to ask.

⭐️ If you spam me with messages over and over again about something I haven't replied to, chances are I'll drop the thread. I don't mind being reminded because I know Tumblr's notifications are notoriously unreliable sometimes, and humans can forget/lose things, but if you keep poking at me after I've acknowledged you the first and second time, I won't be pleased. Things can get busy on here, or in real life, or sometimes you're just lacking muse for that particular thread, y'know? It doesn't mean I hate you and don't want to RP, I'm almost always up for plotting, but muse tends to fluctuate.

⭐️ My ‘Discord’ is available to mutuals upon request. I don't mind roleplaying on there if Tumblr is being glitchy or you're just not feeling up to formatted/heavily plotted threads, sometimes Discord is fun in that you can do immediate replies without needing the effort of putting icons and formatting into it. I also have a Kik but I never use it. I don't RP in Tumblr's IMs, that's purely for OOC interaction.

⭐️ I also occasionally stream movies/TV shows in group chats or play “in character” Cards Against Humanity game nights, Among Us, etc. If you’re interested, lemme know, I’m always looking for more people to hang out with!

I have no actual triggers that I'm aware of, although snakes do creep me out (mostly shots of them coiled up or images of their pupils), but there are some things I will not roleplay personally for comfort reasons:

⭐️ Cannibalism. You can mention it, for example I won't freak out if someone tells my muse that somebody else ate a person (he might, assuming its not a Supernatural type verse), but I won't RP him engaging in cannibalism, not even in AUs (blood-drinking vampires are fine). I'm just not sure I could stomach writing about eating people. I managed to watch Hannibal, barely, but writing about it? Nah. I can handle lots of horror, gore and disturbing content but not this. Sorry.

⭐ Incest/Pedophilia. I do not SEXUALLY ship with characters under the age of 18. John is not attracted to children, and would never consider sleeping with someone much younger than him.

⭐ I will not write anything sexual with muns who are under 18 years old, even if your muse is an adult. I'll still ROLEPLAY with you if you are under 18 but probably no younger than 16 just because things tend to get explicit on my blogs and I don't want to be accused of corrupting the youth with my foul language and weird opinions, lol. Seriously though, this blog covers a lot of dark subjects and while I’m all for minors exploring that safely through writing rather than in real life, some people aren’t comfortable with interacting with under age people for legal or personal reasons, please respect that.

⭐ Necrophilia. Just... no. Vampire threads don't count, as they're undead and not 'dead dead'.

⭐ Rape. I won't write it with you. I'm okay with mentions of rape, with rape/sexual assault survivor/recovery plots, and even with one character intervening to rescue another from an attempted sexual assault (if an attempted assault does occur, it will be thoroughly tagged and under a cut). I'm fully open to discussing rape recovery/trauma plots as those are things that happen in real life, and it can be interesting to explore how a character reacts to trauma. But anything else is a no-go, sorry!

⭐ Please be aware that I write Laurens as a gay man. However! Because of the time period, violent homophobia and social stigma, he has slept with women before and may be seen flirting with or referencing relationships with women in the past. He is still gay, and still uninterested in being with women long term, he's simply closeted to all but a few individuals. So, unless your muse is Martha Manning (who Laurens DOES love in a manner, and he always will), shipping with female characters on here most likely isn't going to happen unless it's heavily plotted/developed and part of an overall plot, and you understand that it will not be a conventional sexual relationship. I'm sorry if that disappoints you but I've read Laurens as a gay male for so long I have trouble seeing him any other way.

⭐ I will not roleplay slavery plots. This is not up for debate. Roleplaying a highly fictionalized version of a long dead real person who existed during a troubling time is one thing, but I draw the line at that. For this reason, while I'll happily play with non-white muses, muses using non white faceclaims, and crossovers with characters of all sorts, I'll have to decline playing with any muse claiming to actually be writing slavery. There’s a difference between, say, roleplaying a character like Daenerys, a fictional character who was technically a slave-bride sold by her brother, and writing actual slavery from a very real, horrible time period. Slave ownership will of course be mentioned on this blog, that's unavoidable, but just like the mention of rape may happen on this blog from time to time, it will be in reference to a past event or speaking about the subject in general, not roleplaying a scene of it. Please respect this rule, I was hesitant to make this blog at first, because I know it makes some people uncomfortable, but I won't glorify such a horrible real thing that happened to so many people.

Exclusives/Mains

Just a head's up, unless I develop a bunch of chemistry with a particular portrayal of a muse I'm not likely to agree to being exclusives with anyone, unless perhaps it's a very niche or divergent character that has formed a good relationship of some sort with John and I'd have trouble interacting with other versions of that muse. For major characters I just feel it would be unfair to say no to someone who I click with in every other way, solely because I have already befriended someone else writing that character.

I will, however, discuss becoming mains with someone whom I've either developed or plotted out detailed storylines/interactions with regarding our specific portrayals of our characters. This means that I tend to reply to them quickly when I'm online, or may make little gifts (moodboards, aesthetic things, mini ficlets, whatever) for them unprompted, have a verse dedicated just to them, etc. Even if it seems like we haven't done much on Tumblr, there may be a lot of off-site development on Discord or whatnot that led to us plotting out intricate stories for our muses.

⭐️ Shame my ships.

⭐️ Complain about my tagging. I put my smut under a 'read more' without exception and tag them as "NSFW //" with two dashes. Things that are not necessarily graphic but still have sexual undertones go under "Suggestive //". I use these tags to avoid attracting attention from porn blogs and porn bots that track certain key words, as such I do not tag my content with "Smut" or trigger words such as "dick, oral, anal, nudity, etc", please block my NSFW and Suggestive tags if you're uncomfortable. Triggery subjects (mentions of rape, animal abuse, torture, mental illness) will be tagged under the name of said trigger with a space and two dashes, example: "Self Harm //", “Suicidal Ideation //” or "PTSD //".

⭐️ Godmod my character. If you’re not sure what is/isn’t okay, come talk to me! I don’t bite! If you’re looking for an example of god mod behavior, here: “X lunged at Laurens, taking him by surprise, and hit him square in the nose, causing blood to spurt.” It might not seem like a big deal but it means that you decided how your character’s actions affected my muse, and not only that, didn’t give him a chance to dodge or anything. Not cool.

⭐️ Ship with me without permission (sending in shippy asks is A-Ok if you're interested in exploring a ship between our muses, I'm talking about things like claiming that our muses are in a relationship without discussing it with me, referencing dates or sexual acts that never happened, etc. I ship mainly with chemistry otherwise things get boring fast.

⭐️ Assume/act like our characters know each other/are closely connected (friends/family/lovers) if we've never discussed it unless it is established in canon/history. This especially goes for original characters. I'm open to Laurens forming deep relationships with OCs obviously, but those have to be developed in character, not just assumed from the first interaction.

⭐️ Attempt to roleplay with me if you are not a roleplay blog/or if you're just trying to RP as "yourself." I don't do Character X Reader imagines stuff. I don't RP with 'fan' accounts, only RP blogs. You can still send asks so long as you're not trying to initiate an RP scenario. For example, asking Laurens what his hobbies are, asking for a blessing etc? That's fine. Spamming me with different actions "you" are talking to Laurens is weird. Stop that. I will also not RP with blogs that claim to roleplay as real life people, such as Markiplier, that's super creepy. This does NOT apply to "historical fiction" roleplay (obviously since that's what this blog is), which is considered its own genre of literature. I'm talking about the above where people will 'roleplay' as real life, currently alive people like YouTube celebrities and ship them with their friends, even if they've made it clear that they're uncomfortable with it. 

⭐️ Get angry at me for doing something you don't like if you don't even have a rules page for me to go by. It's not fair; you can't expect your partners to just read your mind and magically know how you feel. If something bothers you let me know, I’ll make a note about it so I avoid it during our interactions!

⭐️ Use me as a meme resource blog without ever interacting with me. I don't require "reblog karma" for you to follow me, partners are more than welcome to reblog from me, but if we never interact and I just occasionally see you reblog fifteen posts from my meme tag and then disappear again I'm not gonna be happy. Go to the source or to an archived blog no longer getting notifications, please!

⭐️ Reblog my Meta/Headcanons. If they're from a different blog it's fine but the ones I've personally written are for MY portrayal of Laurens. I work hard on most of my stuff and I'd prefer if you didn't reblog it, not because you aren't allowed to have the same headcanon ideas as me, but because then it ends up getting liked or reblogged by lots of other people, spamming my notifications, etc.

OCs & Multimuses

I love OCs and multi-muse blogs (I have my own multimuse sideblog over at @historyremembers, which has other 18th century characters including the Hamilton children and some OCs), so feel free to interact! That being said, please have an about page of some sort on your blog. I can't follow back blogs that have absolutely no information available regarding their character(s). I don't RP with OC children of Laurens. This is nothing personal, but I'm fairly certain he was gay in real life and prefer to play him that way, and he only had one child - who he never even got to meet - in real life, so it just wouldn't make sense to me for him to have other kids running around unless he'd adopted some. If you're a multimuse, I may not follow you back if I'm only familiar with two of your muses if you have a blog of fifteen characters, simply because I'd prefer to keep my dash clean and only have characters/fandoms I'm familiar with on it. I'll still RP with you if you have a character I'm interested in! I just might not follow back if the majority of your characters I do not know, I apologize for this.

If you’ve made it to the end of this, congrats! I know it couldn’t be easy (my ADHD brain was frustrated trying to just write all this up) but it’s necessary so there’s not misunderstandings on what I am/am not willing to RP. The mun puts a lot of effort into his muse and it is such a delightful display! I swear. You, young man, possess excellent literary skills and I envy you. You also succeeded in writing McCree in a way that I can hear his voice when you’re including the direct speech and you give him such an enticing personality. We all know that the cowboy is more than it meets the eye, but you know how to pull it off so well, if you get what I mean? But you are precious, and so is your Mercy, and I really really REALLY like the fact that you do not keep her innocent. I feel like you'd have absolutely excellent D&D characters because your imagination is great.

I actually struggle a lot with making D&D characters, in fact I think I’ve only ever made one character specifically for D&D

my brain just can’t create a character out of nothing, I need something - a setting, a plot, even just a line will work - to create them off of (though I will specify that numbers, like character stats, are not something I can create a character off of)

so usually I take pre-existing characters of mine and convert them into D&D characters and then they often grow into separate entities from the originals

but I am good at role-playing and I have some D&D characters who became very loved by my fellow players

my brother has actually said he likes to have me in his campaigns because while I’m not good at the numbers and stats and all that I’m one of the best role-players he’s dmed and most of the other people he dms are better at the numbers and stuff than the role-playing so I’m usually there to even it out and keep things interesting

anyway, now that I’ve got the humility out of the way I’m gonna take this as an opportunity to rave about my favorite D&D characters I’ve had over the years

Inigo - everyone’s favorite gnome

a gnome fighter, the original Inigo - a mercenary in a book I might never publish - was created to be a mix of Inigo Montoya(Princess Bride), Puss in Boots(Shrek), and Reepicheep(Chronicles of Narnia), and boy did that come out well in role-playing

he infuriated the other characters with his sort-of catchphrase “we are brothers of heart, and soul, and mind!”, but also was the first person his friend and adventuring companion Zephyr went to about a crush on one of the girls who helped them(Inigo’s advice was “whatever you do, be yourself” cause he’s a huge romantic who believes if someone doesn’t love you for you then they aren’t The One)

one of the funnest characters to role-play and apparently everyone else’s favorite of my role-playing characters

Damian - my first good D&D character

originally the wise and mysterious cleric in a superhero team styled after rp adventuring groups he went through a couple variations before my first ever D&D campaign, which he was my second character in after my first ran off with my brother’s rogue’s dead body(I’ll explain later)

a noble’s son who was essentially forced to be a cloister cleric, Damian literally snuck away to adventure, and was somehow the most prepared in his party despite 1) it being his first ever adventure and 2) him being like 16 and having lived in a library/church/thing practically his whole life

he was also incredibly shy and fairly socially awkward but a very good ally once I found out I could just hold an action during fights to heal my party members the moment they got hurt

that campaign was the campaign of lucky rolls, like when he got hit in the arm by an arrow and I said he’d just pull it out and heal himself and the dm made me roll for it - I got a 20(imagine little book nerd 16 year-old pretty-boy literally pulling an arrow out of his arm without wincing and just healing it and moving on) - or when we walked in on a group of goblins burning books and I rolled a 20 on attack and one-shot one of them with a freaking throwing dart(never let a book-nerd cloister cleric see you burning books)

also he knew more about the campaign than our bard did with bardic knowledge(she knew we were looking for these fruit and she knew what they were called, Damian knew the exact conditions they needed to grow and why they were called what they were called and some other things I’ve forgotten)

Drew Quinn - Doctor Scratch-n-sniff

my first ever D&D character, he’s not a favorite but he is a good example of my loyalty to character in role-play

he was a doctor from a secluded village who left to find a cure to a deadly illness and kinda lost his morals along the way, since his village was purely humans(with some distant dragon ancestry that was relevant to the campaign but never revealed cause he took off with the rogue’s body) he had never seen any of the other D&D races before leaving so he joined the party for the sole purpose of studying their anatomy(especially those of the gnome and halfling - adult anatomy in such small bodies??)

so when they got into fights he would just stand to the side and take notes and only step in if it looked like they’d get too disfigured for studying. the one time he did step in he ended the fight with like two/three sentences. and then when the halfling rogue got killed by rats Drew decided the body was more valuable than following the rest of the party wherever they went and took off with it to study

Laea - The Barbarian

the first incarnation of Laea was 9/10 years ago - she was a gang member in a story about a gang of teens who discover they’re all secretly gods. the second was in a role-play game me and my brother did before we started D&D, roughly 6/7 years ago, in which her personality was established in the very first scene when she punched one of the other characters right after waking up and yelled ‘pervert!’

her other most iconic moment was yelling “pansy little wizard boy” when the party wizard went invisible when the party all first met

a druid barbarian who’s only actual weapon was a spiked gauntlet(her other weapons consisted of a crowbar, a chain, and a battering ram) and who’s more likely to punch her allies than to actually fight(mostly cause I started getting bad anxiety around her finally becoming a D&D character and relying on dice is very hard) she was another favorite of my friends’

Buttercup - Secret B.A.?

Buttercup was introduced as a kind, friendly, cheerful bard who always used Inspire Confidence or Inspire Competence(through dancing) instead of fighting

then almost one-shot a boss with a circlet of blasting(after pretending to not know what it does)

(she had the best stats in the party)

Darkness - Buttercup’s dorky older brother

the only awesome moment of his I can remember rn is when he successfully hid behind the invisible ninja

Stefon - the very angry captain

originally a quiet military strategist from an old story I considered making into a comic, he somehow morphed into the most done character I have ever played, and a captain of a scavenger(?maybe smugglers?) airship

then again his crew were kinda useless. he spent most of the campaign telling them how not to mess up only for them to do exactly what he told them not to do

Antonio - the other kick-butt book nerd

a member of The Fools Guild, the entire first session all I did was show gifs of Legolas making disapproving faces anytime Antonio was supposed to react to something, or I said “he continues reading”

so he was a bit of a background character to the rest of the party

until he threw his book at a bugbear. and then pulled out another book and went back to reading

but then when the party were attacked by soldiers shortly after defeating the bugbears he was literally the only one to actually kill anyone. with the crossbow the fighter had left in the cart. it was a one-shot kill

he went back to reading as they ran away and returned to not doing much until the party had to compete in a tournament to win some magic object or something

he was paired with the party artist(sorceress, but she refused to admit that) in the 2 on 2 fights. first fight he won with just his books. second he won with the daggers hidden in his books. each fight he brought out another weapon he’d somehow hidden on his person and each fight his teammate only got like one hit in before he beat the opponents. he quickly became the tourney favorite(it didn’t hurt that the gay orc couple who were doing the announcing and commentating thought he was really cute)

Slythus - the ancient weapon of mass destruction

an old character who’s gonna be in my Eternity comic, I used him for a space-age villain campaign

possibly the only time I’ve ever had him flirt with anyone ever, at all

there were lots of fun shenanigans in that campaign but there was a Main Player Character who the campaign revolved around and it was pretty obvious so his only great memorable moment was when one of the party members said “we’d need an ancient weapon of mass destruction” and he responded “I am an ancient weapon of mass destruction!”

Mane - the one made for D&D character

orc barbarian who acted more like a monk than the actual party - his introduction was stopping a barfight cause he may be a barbarian but he doesn’t like fights

best moment: when the other party members had all failed to get this locked door open and told him “it’s all yours” and so he just ripped it off it’s hinges and carried it around on his back the rest of the campaign, I think he used it as a shield at some point

he also kept an empty treasure chest they’d found cause he cared more about having a treasure chest than the treasure

sorry for the super long response, as a writer, D&D player, and lifelong role-player I’m very passionate about my characters

ok! it is morningtime i’m going to answer this

i feel half called out by this question cuz val and peter are both names of characters from my rp (i play val and peter is AU Vampire Version of damian’s dad). incidentally, valentine collins (my character) has absolutely nothing to do with valentine wiggin.

now here i go for both:

why i like them: i’m no longer drunk enough to be as soul-bearingly honest as i was about the kids last night, but long story short, peter wiggin was insecure and jealous and angry, and he was told that he was a Bad Kid so he had to be Careful or he’d be Bad For Life. he put so much WORK and EFFORT into being Good and making people think he was Good when to him he thought this whole entire thing was a facade, he thought he was Bad Bad Bad on the inside. i love peter cuz he taught me it’s ok to do the right thing for the wrong reasons; it’s ok to have all that anger inside of you for so long, stewing. he thought his loneliness was absolutely his own self because that’s the way he’s Made. he was self-loathing but also like. ok. i gotta get the fuck up and do this. and of course when JP and theresa eventually broke the news to him about the REAL reason he didn’t get into battle school, it was like the floor dropped out from under his feet. and he had to scramble to remake his sense of self, cuz for so long he’d centered his ego around the careful knowledge that if he pushes too far he’d be too BAD too AGGRESSIVE too EVIL - but that wasn’t it at all. he finds out he’s not fundamentally bad, and keeps going, tho that damage is already done.

as for val, i love val cuz she’s some great sneaky characterization. most of EG the front she puts up is that peter manipulated her and cornered her into doing this and frightened her, but the reality is that val, as i say in this fic, “liked playing the game, but didn’t like getting played by [peter].” she enjoyed the Power of playing his lil game, demosthenes and locke, but always made it sound like it was about her fear of peter and love of ender. val was more complex than that. i also like how she grows in the enderseries and her sort of fun relationship with ender much much later on - and how offended she is when soul!val shows up lmao, cuz that’s a fair reason to be offended tbh, cuz ender had somehow created this Perfect Canonized version of her in his heart. she wasn’t as perfect as ender imagined, and she knew that, and i think she was injured by that reminder.

why i don’t: the parts i don’t like about peter are that he’s a skinny lame ass white boy from the US but tbh i’ve always thought that’s why he rends me to the bone more than, say, damian, who is hypercompetent and a Trained Killer/Superhero. peter’s physical weakness and general shitty lameness is like #me ha ha. i guess i have some beef with how he unites the world cuz again it’s the White Guy ruling over the entire world then somehow reaching world peace in such a way that ends the need for a hegemon ever again but [shrug emoji]

as for val, i guess i always wished she would be more of a Player in the game and not so passive. i blame orson scott card’s raging misogyny for that, though.

favorite scene: i have two fav peter scenes; one is in shadow of the hegemon, when he’s in the library with an apology letter from the admiral of the IF and his hands are shaking and he wants to SCREAM cuz he’s just some dumbass college kid and he has enough clout and power to get a groveling APOLOGY letter from the highest ranking officer in the IF and he can’t stand keeping it to himself but he also of course can’t tell anyone. i also love the scene in, shadow puppets i think? when he’s been forced to evacuate the brazilian compound cuz achilles infiltrated it and he’s in the hotel room and briefly considers #suicide but in a very matter-of-fact way, and comes to the conclusion that would just be way too embarrassing. then he goes out and dutifully makes the announcement for the media. a sort of watershed moment for young lucy tbh. i think it’s also the moment when JP and theresa come in and tell him they’re proud of him, and “nobody mentioned ender’s name at all,” which hits peter like a ton of bricks.

honorable mention: when he insists on going in with bean and the Soldiers for the final confrontation with achilles in the compound. like peter you are a skinny kid with no field experience don’t do this!!!!!! but he feels so Responsible so he does anyway.

fav val scene is probably…………..well she gets fewer breakout scenes overall but i do love all her banter with peter cuz she’s pretending to hate him but really she Enjoys the game they’re playing. i was glancing thru children of the mind/xenocide and she admittedly has some funny moments with jakt, AND i love her bonding with miro (tho that gets weird when soul!val shows up). i’m not a huge fan of her scenes with ender cuz she always treats him with kid gloves. i think i really do like the Sharpness she had with peter. i think of that one particular conversation right after the bunnies thing? where val seems to be very performatively like “ugh peter’s scary” but in practice she’s really Into the power working with him is giving her

favorite book: my fav peter book is…… god this is hard lmao. i love him in shadow of the hegemon i LOVE him in shadow puppets and i love him in shadow of the giant. he has some of the best scenes in shadow puppets but his characterization in shadow of the giant is so fun and has Moved so much, but shadow of the hegemon is also super duper fun cuz it’s just when he’s gaining steam. idk lmao.

my fav val book is arguably EG itself because that has her moments with peter

favorite line: i have so many with peter but probably after he sees bean and petra (or maybe JP and theresa) share a kiss: “i’ll have that one day. someone who’ll kiss me goodbye. or maybe just someone who’ll tie a blindfold over my eyes before the execution.” he’s such a #romantic. oh also? the “i love you” after reading bean’s letter cuz it’s a gut punch every fucking time

fav val line? that’s hard. i love the “funny as a one-legged rabbit, val” / “of which there are no doubt several in the woods” / “hopping around in neat little circles” exchange, which has val’s iconic “peter, you’re twelve” in it lmao. so some of that fun banter probably

i looked up the locke and demosthenes chapter and am dying cuz i forgot how much i loved them both

otp: peter/petra/bean for sure, and for val, well, val should be a lesbian, even tho her husband’s ok. val/virlomi would’ve been dope as hell. ps peter’s first kiss was on the boat with virlomi pass it on

brotp: YALL peter and val are their OWN brotp, despite the way val demonized peter as soon as she was away from them. they loved playin the game together

headcanon: oh man uhhhhh. they’re both bi as hell. val started regular correspondence with peter when he was Older and she was still young cuz of space flight but it was too weird and peter was too kind and forgiving and unlike the sharp and dangerous peter she remembered, so she got weirded out and quit it. val loved peter more than ender but hated herself for it and could never bring herself to admit it, and spent her whole life trying to convince herself it’s not true

ADVENT CALENDAR MEME: Day 3.5 (My First Tumblr RP Character)

I added this because i apparently like to talk about myself lmao

This isn’t an official part of the meme, but being that I have already started this self-motivated journey down memory lane, I might as well do it right. (And I’m the captain of this ship, so I’m gonna steer it as I damn well please).

As I mentioned in the real Day Three post of this meme, my Tumblr rpg timeline is a little wonky. I really don’t know what inspired me to venture into the Tumblr roleplay tag, but it was certainly a different world then than it is now. There was no fancy formatting, no small text, no resized gifs (or gif icons--or icons at all). It showcased big, clunky gifs accompanied by normal-sized text, usually just consisting of dialogue (or even *gasp* actions mentioned in between asterisks). It was a simpler time, very fun and easygoing. It was much easier to get swept up in creativity when you weren’t afraid to fail, or to do something wrong. And it was certainly far less intimidating that rpgs are now, but maybe I just haven’t gotten used to it yet. Still, I miss it sometimes. 

But enough nostalgia--let’s talk about Scott: the character that started it all.

 I still play Scott Sparks to this day, but he was very different back in 2013. Nowadays he’s THE MERMAN: blonde frat boy from Los Angeles, always there to offer a joke and most likely found swimming in the ocean (or chugging a beer). But back then, he was THE ADRENALINE JUNKIE: boy struggling with a mental illness, who jumped off cliffs just to feel alive. The rpg had been a dystopian theme, set in a city that had been taken over by soldiers with no way out. It really shaped his personality: he was more serious, more cautious. But at the same time he become more reckless, more hopeless, with less regard for the fragility of his own human life. After his parents had been killed at the city gate trying to escape, it had also triggered an underlying disassociative disorder, which caused him to act in all sorts of unfamiliar ways, involving alternate personalities, blank spaces in his memory, and overall craziness (and a great deal of fun for me :^) ).

Between the tense city setting and his disorder, the rpg had allowed for some really intense, really interesting plots. No matter how tired I was, I’d always tell myself just one more reply,. Even if I was exhausted the next day, it had always been worth it to stay up extra late, just to find out what happened next. To this day, I still haven’t felt that same rush of excitement, that compulsion to stay up and keep the scene going despite how late it got. Perhaps that has something to do with how quick the replies could be turned out. Being that it was just dialogue, you could finish a whole scene in one night if you stayed up late enough. Nowadays, just attempting to write a para after 11:00 PM makes my eyes droop close. But back then (at least in my rpg), para-replies had been rare, so it had been easy to write something while struggling to stay awake. I guess you could say it had been less about the storytelling and more about the story itself. Today, it almost seems like the other way around, but I’ll save that tale for another day. 

I really miss playing the original Scott--so much that after the rpg ended, I couldn’t even think of joining another one at first. It spurred a three-year hiatus (not intentionally that long, but after awhile my free time began taken up by other things--mostly a blog, that has since suffered the same, cruel hiatus fate). Years later, I landed myself in a group verse with Scott, and began developing him there. Like I’m sure most characters do in a new setting, he has adapted. He’s become extremely different from when I originally played him four years ago--he had to. Although I'd loved all of his exciting, angsty plots, I knew I can never play him that way again. For one, he had the mental disorder (Tumblr can get awfully taboo about stuff like that, and I wouldn’t want anyone to reject Scott due to a bias before even interacting with him). But besides that, the whole rpg had consisted of so many specific elements stacked together, and I don’t think any character can be the same if you give them a different backstory and setting.

All in all, I love my first version of Scott, but I also love what he has evolved into just as much. Even if he is very different, a few core elements have stayed the same--not to mention he’s a lot more fleshed out characterization-wise that his previous counterpart (I like to think I have grown as a writer since 2013!). So here’s to Scott, the one who started it all. Couldn’t have done it with you, buddy!

i’m also applying hikari okamoto to ned and hunter’s zero escape rp, and angel (shsl community radio host) to amnesiac quandary. i think. if hikari doesn’t get into zerp, i might app her to aq.

i don’t really have any triggers, but tagging #eye gore would be great. also, if y’all could avoid using the word “gay” really flippantly (e.g. to mean “stupid” or “grossly romantic”) around me, that would be grand.

as for nate... he plays airsoft. as a sport. for all intents and purposes, it’s just paintball, but with realistic model guns that shoot plastic pellets. they’re close enough to real guns to be used for war re-enactments and military training. if you point an airsoft gun at a bank teller, you’ll get charged as if you brandished a real gun. fun facts!

some people get super into the historical accuracy/military simulation aspects of airsoft games, and I personally think that constitutes LARPing. go look it up - even the casual players dress up in camo and bark orders at each other like soldiers.

on a related note, i have no idea how this boy has 2.5 significant others. (the .5 is an It’s Complicated situation.)

speaking of which! nate is poly. he’s open to shipping with all genders. so like, if you want your oc to make a terrible life decision, he’s there. (spoilers: he’s kind of bad at poly.)

nate’s definitely not going to be making any super overt moves on other ocs without the explicit ooc consent of their muns, dw. i’ve had bad experiences with shippressuring and it took 3 years off my life, so i’m not about to do it myself.

on another related note. pls for the love of god do not think i’m only here for shipping, because i s2g humor is the way to my heart. just make some good shitposty threads w/ me and you’re golden. you really don’t have to be a ship partner or even a best friend to have a funny and enjoyable thread with me.
