i like the johto gang a normal amount (i do play favorites. yes i think Silver's fun. this was all drawn last year but I still love him a whole lot.)
Silver ends up working as an assistant at the daycare somehow. he's still not 100% how it happened but it's something to do with his life that feels productive.
Ethan and Lyra were once the both the champion at the same time. so was Red. they have match t-shirts about it that look something like this
Tumblr media
Kris is usually the braincell holder and works as a researcher, YES she has a suicune-themed labcoat.
Silver is Ho-Oh's chosen human, Ethan is the choice of Celebi of Ilex Forest, Lyra is Lugia's, and Kris is Suicune's (and tangentially Entei and Raikou's).
the Lugia Lyra was bonded to was specifically the one that was Shadow'd in Pokemon XD, so she was mysteriously ill for a while until Michael restored it to a non-shadow state. Michael is also the Lugia's chosen human.
Silver once chugged hot chocolate. he's now under watchful eye because that was A Mistake
Ethan and his mom have the best Halloween parties in New Bark and everyone knows it
Silver genuinely though Ethan's name was "Gold" for the first year of knowing him
with Lyra being sort of a PR manager for Pasio, a lot of the videos will feature at least one of her friends and/or their Pokemon
Silver has Feraligatr, Rthan has Typhlosion, Kris has Meganium, and Lyra didn't get a traditional starter but has an Azumarill. yes i have teams for everyone save for deciding on the Odd Egg. and nicknames for their pokemon. this is what i do for fun.
Kris can and will get into a fistfight with other academics

i think it'd be funny if Ash and Silver were half-brothers through Delia instead of Giovanni. Silver won the Indigo League once and only beat Will of the Elite Four, losing to Koga, and not really having a direction in life for a while. thanks to some late-night Sneasel thefts of eggs, he more or less ends up as the night shift for a Pokemon Daycare in Johto. it's a strange life to live. (his starter was sneasel, with his 6th being the Nidoking from the Japanese opening to Legend of Thunder instead of one of the usual Johto starter trio) also i've never drawn ash before this and it shows

Choosing my favorite pokemon is so hard because I have so many different categories of favorite
Favorite because it resembles my favorite animal: Relicanth
Favorite because it was my first starter, ever: Bulbasaur
Favorite starter overall: Popplio
Favorite because it carried me through a game: Magnezone (moon, scarlet), Chandelure (sword), Kingler (PokeGo), Dragonite (also PokeGo), Skorupi/Drapion (SP) and right now I'm doing a co-op playthrough of Let's Go Pikachu that is making me inordinately fond of the Oddish line
Favorite because of some other role it played for me in a game: Magby (my main Flame Body mon for egg hatching in Moon), Gallade (my main catching build in Scarlet and Sword), Krookodile (the infinite money build for SV lmao), Larvesta/Volcarona (more flame body)
Favorite because of The Vibes: Hisuian Typhlosion, Sneasel/Weavile, Corviknight, Misdreavus/Mismagius, Sableye, Mawile
Favorite because I randomly encountered them in a newer game and was delighted, despite not caring much for them in older games: Bergmite, Girafarig, Machop, Darumaka, Foongus, Frillish
Favorite because duh, everyone loves them for a reason: Eevee(+lutions), Zorua/Zoroark, Rockruff/Lycanrock, Riolu/Lucario, Wooloo/Dubwool, Applin/Appletun, Snom, Spheal
Favorite because it's just extremely fucking funny: Spinda, Milcery, Falinks, Rellor, Tandemaus/Maushold, Tinkaton, Orthworm (gen 9 is RIPE with extremely good funnyguys, tbh. As much as I appreciate a cool pokemon design the funny ones are just so much more instantly charming)
Favorite because nobody else likes them: Dhelmise, Stonjourner
Favorite becauss Gamefreak forgot about them: Blitzle/Zebstrika
Favorite because I have random fond memories of them from childhood: Venonat, Electrike (my first full-odds shinies from when I was growing up 🥺), Bayleef (I had a cool figure), Skitty (had a plush), Absol (my first Favorite Pokemon™️), Buizel/Floatzel, Shellos (more top-tier childhood fav), Bonsly (played XD), Munchlax (my mom LOVED munchlax whenever it appeared in the show/movie I was watching)
Favorite because it's related to one of the other guys that are my favorites: Magnemite, Oddish, Cyndaquil, Litwick, Dratini
Favorites that I don't even have a good category for I just get really excited when I see them: Lapras, Wishiwashi, Drampa, Slugma, Torkoal, Skarmory, Houndour/Houndoom, Lotad, Seedot, Surskit/Masquerain, Shroomish/Breloom, Makuhita, Numel/Camerupt, Trapinch/Vibrava/Flygon, Baltoy/Claydol, Snorunt, Driftloon/Driftlimb, Venipede/Scolipede, Cottonee/Whimsicott, Petilil/Liligant
Favorite Gens Overall: Gen 3 and Gen 4 (I'm not even gonna pretend this is about anything but nostalgia)

Viral Pokerus, what people transform into
What Pokemon do people turn into in Viral Pokerus au? These aren’t totally cemented yet and as you will see I’m unsure of which to choose for some of these.
Choices are influenced by what Pokemon the person hangs out with a lot, what suits their design and personality, the wild Pokemon that appear around where they can be located, and what is just a fun idea!
Something I forgot to mention in the first post, Pokemon kept in Pokeballs are less likely to get the virus do to having less interaction with the environment. They can still totally get it though, usually from wild Pokemon. Also, young Pokemon are very likely to get the virus because children are just like that.
Apologies for misspelling any names but I’m not getting check all these. Also reminder that they will always turn into first stage of a line.
Important Galaxy Team Members:
Lucas/Rei (protag): Rowlet (my main choice for this is because I want the protag to turn into one of the starters, and I also want them to be able to throw things at any point in the evo line)
Laventon: Oshuwatt (the choice was really between Oshuwatt and Cyndaquill and I want him to wear his hat without fear of it catching on fire)
Cyllene: Abra (really what other Pokemon does she hang out with)
Komado: Munchlax or Herracross (I feel like both Snorlax and Herracross, Pokemon Komado has, fit his vibes)
Beni: Ralts (guy has TWO Pokemon that evolve from this, double the odds)
Pesselle: Happiny
Zisu: Buneary (she has a Lopunny in her Tenacity Team and I think that fits her vibes best besides Zoroark, but I have a special plan for Zoroark and I don’t want too much repetition)
Akari (NOT Protag): Piplup, Starly, or Pichu (assistant has a Pikachu from the start. Starly is just a fun idea. Leaning most towards Piplup though. Piplup is already associated with Dawn because of the anime but also if the protag chooses Rowlet, which this one does, the assistant will have an Empoleon)
Not Important Galaxy Team Members:
Ress: Shinx or Bidoof (Shinx would look cool and have yet to have any Shinx plans, Bidoof would be funny because of the unassuming look for one the Galaxy Team’s strongest members)
Pickle Lady: Geodude
Wenton & Bren: Shellos (but different forms)
Umbreon man: Eevee
Chimecho lady: Chingling
Beauregard: Wurmple (he’ll evolve into Beutifly)
Buizel man: Buizel (A big one, of course!)
The 3 that argue about Burmy: Burmy (but not the forms they like)
At least one child should turn into a drifloon
Any villager that has a Pokemon themed request, even if it’s just Pokedex completion, will probably be turned into the Pokemon they wanted to know about
Spirtomb girl: nothing? (She’s already kind of a Pokemon. So it might be funny if nothing happens to her)
Pearl Clan:
Irida: Eevee
Lian: Goomy
Calaba: Bidoof, Teddyursa, or Unown (Bidoof because partner, Teddyursa because noble, Unown because she likes to hangs out at the ruins + it’s a fun idea. The only other person I could really turn into an Unown is that guy that Galaxy Team guy that guards(?) the entrance.)
Palina: Growlith
Ingo: Sneasel (got infected by Lady Sneasler’s kids)
Gaeric: Machop (this is a bit of a weird one but I liked the idea of letting him stay a muscle man, plus there are a bunch of Machoke and an alpha Machamp nearby Avalugg’s seat which is where you can find him anyway. I imagine that he likes to wrestle with the alpha Machamp and that’s how he got infected.)
Pearl clan members that have requests that involve Pokemon are likely to get turned into that Pokemon. Even Pokedex completion tasks.
Pearl clan has an easier time quarantining due to the sparse population of the icelands. However… Zorua/Zororks find out about the whole people-turning-into-Pokemon thing and purposely get themselves infected and going to the settlement to spread the virus and turn the villagers into Zorua as a form of revenge against humans.
Diamond clan:
Adamen: Eevee
Mai: Stantler or Johto Sneasel (I prefer Stantler because Ingo is already Sneasel otherwise Johto Sneasel could be fun)
Arezu: Petalil
Iscan: Basculin, or Duskull (Basculin because noble. Duskull because turning him into a Pokemon that scares him is funny. On the other hand gills are also fun)
Melli: Zubat (this was a hard one. I didn’t feel like turning him into a Stunky and I’m not gonna turn him into an orb so I choose one of his other Pokemon. Plus, bats are notorious for getting diseases)
Sabi: Rufflet (because noble, she gets it from hanging out with Lord Bravary’s kids)
Diamond clan members that have requests that involve Pokemon are likely to get turned into that Pokemon. Even Pokedex completion tasks
Diamond clan gets effected the most first due to proximity to Mount Coronet, I haven’t mentioned this yet but it’s where the virus strain starts. Random Diamond clan members are mostly turning into Pokemon found around the Mirelands.
Other:
Cognita: I have no idea tbh, Legends and Mythicals can’t get infected, and I don’t know what else to associate her with. Maybe she just doesn’t turn into anything. She already lives off on her own with no Pokemon.
Volo: Togepi, Gible, Riolu, or Spirtomb (Togepi line is his ace throughout the game. He also has a Gible early on. Riolu line is cool. Spirtomb is just a fun idea, like how would that even work.?)
Ginter: Rotom? (because of selling Rotom tech?)
Other Gingo Guild members also turn into Pokemon, but they travel a lot so it could be just about anything really.
Charm, Clover, & Coin: Gastly, Snover, and Croagunk (those are their Pokemon after all) but they live out in the wilds anyway so really they could also get infected by anything.

i love your wanted au because all i can think about is just how funny of a group ingo and akari are, i mean. a child who has been living in meiji era japan and has literally fought god traveling with a man who befriended a giant cat thing that died 300 years ago. it really is just slightly feral child and man who's been disassociating for the past 3 years going hiking with their extinct animals and helping who they can while everyone else is just staring in horror
The best part is that they largely have no idea what’s going on with everyone else. Their wanted posters get plastered on every poke center and poke mart in Sinnoh so not only are they still foraging and making their own potions and revives, they also have no access to any computer. Their arc-phones also don’t have any kind of Wi-fi or phone service so they can’t access their contacts to call anyone. They know their wanted criminals because of the lies of that research lab, but they don’t know how people know Ingo’s name so quickly. Any public address made to them on national TV is not seen because they’re busy hiking though the woods, letting their Pokémon all stretch their little legs as they introduce them and themselves to the modern world bit by bit.
Also, ‘slightly feral’? This kid has spent weeks in the wild, learning and studying pokemon behaviors in all climates and literally stalking prey subjects to catch. If she runs into a forest she just vanishes into the foliage. Modern Pokémon who hang out in the grass are not prepared for a human to sneak up and chill right next to them.
Ingo is much the same, learning to survive in the highlands when he needs too, climbing steep cliffs with his bare hands, camping out in sneaselers den and sleeping under a pile of sneasels and sneaslets.
Oh! I do stand corrected actually, they do get access to world wide communication. At some point they get ahold of an old hot pink wrist radio. They try to play any news station they can reach but Sneaseler always insist they play the rock music station. Ingo must admit he really likes that one song they keep playing, he thinks the artist name is Roxie? It kinda sounds familiar.

What if, just to make them match you know, what if one day Emmett has a particularly rough time. And then the next day, he wakes up, and whoops! All Sneasel
Wouldn't it be funny?
If the conspiracy people-being-turned-into-pokemon theory thing that Emmet and the Police came up with was real even if it hadn’t actually happened to Ingo?
And, I mean, some of Emmet’s character traits are supposed to be impulsiveness, being blunt, and trying to focus his energy on a target. Like with the ghost train from the anime.
Because he’s supposed to be a contrast for Ingo, who’s careful, methodical and prioritizes the health and safety of the people around him.
So him thinking he’s finally found the culprit and could make them fix what they’ve done to his brother could make him race off to do that. Maybe even without waiting for others to gear-up and make a plan.
And, like, the risk of being impulsive is getting in over your head and not thinking your plans through.

(Cool, Thanos meme)
This is nothing, just a little sketch of me getting back to pokemon because of PLA.
Like that game gives me nostalgia, even tho I've never played any main pokemon games! I've only played spinoffs like Pokeparks (Pokepark2 is the best.)
Pretty exited of gen 9 games too!
ALSO, before you ask;
1. Yes, those are Maxie and Archie; Tumblr-sexy-men back in the day, and I love them
2. Yes, Serperior is my favorite pokemon, more specifically female just because. Also PLZ, I want female alfa snivy!
2.5 Hisuian Sneasel is a baby, love her. Almost have entire team of Sneasels amd Sneaslers.
3. Just exposing myself, but Cilan from black and white was my first anime crush and I love him to death. And also Cynthia is pretty and cool
ALSO, Hello Submas fandom,

ive been playing the newest pokemon game and i’ve been refraining from posting about it bc the premise and plot deeply bothers me and gameplaywise i dont have anything to say that hasn’t already been said, but the one thing i will say is that my favorite thing about the 3d pokemon games is how obvious it makes the gradual art shift towards increasing cartoony anthropomorphic designs the games underwent. it’s so jarring having both like, sneasel and ponyta on my team bc sneasel is like a little cartoon guy who i can imagine talking to me and ponyta is like, a real, shivering, wretched watery-eyed newborn horse animal. that’s not really a complaint it’s just really funny and also it activated within me the same human impulse to latch on emotionally to things you want to nurse back to health that’s the reason i can’t watch the MST3K episode abt Mac and Me (because i maternally imprint on Mac every time and i get so upset when he gets sucked up into the vaccuum and splattered against the windshield or is crying and shaking because he needs coca cola and is so lonely etcetera). so yeah.

Hi Dash !! It’s Time to Meet a Member of the RPC !!
Tumblr media
Ditto would like to introduce... Dun Duuuuuun !!
It’s Jason ♡ !! Though some of you may know them as @haematophiliac !!
Established in Spooky October of 2018, they’ve been around the RPC for a good long while as a Team Rocket Scientist OC, but here’s a looksee at some things you may have not known !! Ditto hopes you enjoy getting to know the writer just as much as Ditto did !!
♡ Interview... START !!
Ditto would like you to introduce yourself a little bit. The url you go by, maybe how you picked it. Was it a joke at first that you just stuck with, does it have significant meaning?
The username is what people would call a lover of blood. I started Jax in … 2018? Octoberish and he had the common username including Rocket in it and I decided to pick a theme more fitting to him. Eventually I settled with the current one as it fits him as a blood obsessor to put it bluntly. I mean he likes blood, works around a lot of it and all that so it just… Well, stuck!
Was there something about Team Rocket in general that drew you in? Over other ‘evil’ organizations, Rocket is considered the OG & probably largest. But, over Plasma/Galactic, what made you choose Rocket?
I’ve always been a Rocket fan. I started in the Pokemon fandom (can you call it a fandom back then) in 1998 when I was only eight by watching the anime. You could say that Rocket started my love for bad guys actually! I used to adore Jessie and James so much. They were just so fun, funny and adorable. Maybe I had a crush on one… Ahem! But yes, as a kid I fell for the trio (I didn’t forget loveable Meowth there!) and ever since then I’ve been a fan. I love all the bad guys mind you but Rocket holds a special place in my heart. Just always been like that.
A bonus question !! Did any characters from the original Anime / Franchise…  help you develop Jax at all?
A good question but Jax actually was inspired by a character I role played in a completely different fandom. I mean you cannot compare them - Jax is a human with so many faults and the other character is… Well, a plain old monster. But when I first made Jax I put little bits of the old character into him, such as formal speaking and love for blood. He started pretty much as a clean slate. I evolved him over the first few weeks.
Do you think that, because you play a character that is not a ‘good guy’ or as you put it, a monster, that people that may not know you well find you hard to approach?
Indeed so. Though I only speak of experience in the past here! When I played my full out monster in another fandom, people would tell others they were actually scared of me on an OOC level. Needless to say I’ve spoken to many people who were scared and helped them realise that it is just a muse I play. When it comes to Tumblr I find the fandom much more open and less afraid? Though I don’t know for certain because people could be afraid for all I know and I just don’t know. I hope I’m approachable enough anyway!
So then !! To help the part community that may not know you well, or might be a little hesitant because you play a blood loving bad guy, what are some things that you may have in common with everyone? Do you have a favorite pokemon? Or a region that just was WACK & you loved it so much? What’s on that most repeated playlist you got? Or maybe a few movies that you really love?
I read every blog’s rules and I’ve noticed that a lot of people are socially anxious. Which to be fair… I am too! I get nervous around people I don’t know and aahhhh, well, I’m in the exact same boat. We all start as strangers and all it takes is one foot forward to break that ice but, like others, I do find that first step very intimidating. I’m just your average nerd to be fair haha. As for my favourite Pokemon? Sneasel! I fell in love with that little critter after watching the Celebi movie when it came out. Favourite region would be Hoenn. I just have fond memories of it I guess as a Ruby fan. It was the first game my battery ran out of energy on. My music is too horrific for anybody’s ears if that’s what you mean hah. And movies? … … Digimon the movie (1+2+3 in Japan and just the first (all three combined) in UK and presumably other places too).
As someone who feels that weird wiggle when trying to step out of your comfort zone to make friends. Do you have any advice for people that want to get to know you better? Or, reaching out to people in general?
When reaching out to me - or anybody else - I find the best approach can be a simple hello. It instantly shatters that ice between two people. Like… Many of us are afraid to simply say hello. But if you manage to break that first bit it’s amazing! If you don’t there is always another day. Conversation can escalate from a mere hello. Or even reply to an open post if serious or funny! That first step is the hardest indeed but things get easier after that first hurdle. The worst someone can do is walk away and then perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be. Everybody has friends in the end and making more is great.
That said. We all know how the Poke RPC has its ups, & its downs. Sometimes both happen in one day. LOL. There is always room for growth though, & Ditto believes that everyone can work together to make that happen. Is there anything you would like to see change in the community?
Everything in life will come with ups and downs, it’s just how things go. We can all work through things however. If something bad happens there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. As a community it is great we can all work on whatever needs addressing. I understand some people rather turn a blind eye depending upon the situation. We all should work on what makes us comfortable. Nonetheless, if I could change one thing I’d change anon hate. Argh. That’s one thing that gets under my skin. We, as a community, should be open to criticism and praise alike and nobody should need to harass another person anonymously. If someone has a disagreement then they should tell the person. Only that way can they work on the issue. But then again there is needless anon hate without true purpose behind it and that makes me sad. But nobody is perfect and sometimes people will rear their ugly side. Yet when anon hate has popped up it has been utterly overwhelming to see everybody support each other with kindness!
Ditto wonders, do you think anon hate may… slow down, or go away, if it was ignored instead of responded to when received? Most times, the people that feel the need to do hurtful things to others is for response. The attention received whether it is good or bad.
I think it’s highly dependent upon the situation. As someone who has received hate in the past (not on Tumblr mind you) I found that even ignoring people doesn’t work. Yet every case is different. Some do it for response, some do it to just get under someone’s skin. We can’t tell which however. If, say, it is needless hate then to ignore it would be the best option, even reporting it to Tumblr’s staff. But if in the situation something needs defending like a misconception then it could be a good idea to clear the air. Keyword could though. I’ve learned that people will get ideas into their mind and battle for it rather than accepting what is truth. In those cases a good air clearing is good and then to ignore any further.... Jabbing could be best. But if people feel the need to respond they should have the freedom to, as well as the freedom to ignore it.
Is there anything you’d like to pass on to those in the RPC that receive anon hate? Maybe a word of advice, or just something supportive to remember if it ever happens?
Well, as long as someone isn’t breaking any rules, doing something bad OOC or whatever- Actually I was going to say they should keep going and doing their thing. And yet I feel the need to mention that all people make mistakes in their lives. Anon hate is a bad way to go. The person on the receiving end of a message is a person too. They have feelings and thoughts and a life also. If you ever receive anon hate then just remember that there’s someone sending it and perhaps they don’t realize their mistake. That isn’t to say it’s justified. Just that people do indeed forget there are real people involved. … I think I word things bad! I mean… Anon hate is wrong, end of. But it is so easy to forget that real people are sat to read it. If you ever get anon hate then it is best to ignore it. That spark could evolve into a full blown fire and make you worse off. Hm, I forgot my train of thought but in the end we all need less hate and to just enjoy ourselves. People tend to send hate from bad experiences with the person or disagreements if right or wrong on either side but words are just words on a screen. They can say all they want to you but you are you. You are a person who deserves a life and love and no mere text on a monitor - Or phone screen! - can ever truly harm you.
Ditto thinks you did a fine job. We all take time to find words in our own ways, & no one has the perfect ones all the time. So please do not worry about wording things. It takes some practice sometimes, when you’re put on the spot !!
Ditto would like to wrap up with something uplifting & super positive. After your time here in the Poke RPC, what are some of your favorite memories? Things that make you stick around, or just enjoy seeing go on? Give Ditto a little insight ( & the RPC too ) on what makes you happy to be here.
I have a vast array of good memories. Mainly ones of that first move of saying hello to someone or just that first interaction. Then again you’re asking someone with a bad memory! I truly just enjoy seeing people having a good time, enjoying their time here. When people are comfortable enough to do crack threads, that’s something that makes me smile. For instance the RPC could have been super strict and look down upon anything not considered serious and yet there everybody is just having fun! I enjoy watching people get along all in all. When new relations are formed, plots explored, the crack-like threads that ensue. Dash commentary is always a favourite. It shows someone isn’t afraid to get involved. I like it when people aren’t afraid. As I said, we’re all humans with lives and just watching people have fun makes me smile, even if I’m not involved. And of course, being involved in things makes me happy too, to just be included :D
A big Thank You !! to Jason for allowing Ditto to take some of their time for this interview.
Tumblr media
Ditto hopes everyone has a good Monday !!
See you next week for the next Community Interview. ♡

Michael in the Mainstream: Pokemon Generation I & II
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pokemon is one of the biggest media franchises on the planet since 1996, and while it’s never exactly hit the same highs as it did back in the 90s, the franchise has been going strong for over two decades regardless. So, in honor of the latest entries in the franchise, I decided to take a look back at the old generations and look at what worked and what didn’t about them, though obviously in my own style. And what better place to start than the original two generations, Generations I and II?
Let’s start with Generation I, which includes the three games that started it all – Red, Blue, and Yellow, though back in the franchise’s homeland of Japan they had Green instead of Blue (hence why we got FireRed and LeafGreen, but no WaterBlue). These are the games that launched the franchise into the stratosphere of popularity, and for a long time they were held up as the gold standard of Pokemon games, attracting a die-hard base of “fans” known as Genwunners, who would bash anything outside of the first 151 Pokemon. Lately that sort of opinion has declined, though you still get the odd person here and there whining about how newer Pokemon designs look like Digimon, which indicates that the person saying that is unfamiliar with either franchise.
But what of the games themselves? What are they like? I have long expressed distaste for the Gen I games, mostly because of my hatred of Genwunners, but ultimately my opinions on the games are a lot more mixed. I do believe that Yellow is a genuinely good game and probably how the first generation should be experienced if you really want to go back to the old games, but my opinions on Red and Blue are a bit more mixed – but, shockingly, mostly positive.
You see, here’s the thing with Pokemon games – even at their worst, they’re still fun, and Red and Blue prove that. These are impressive games for their time that had the misfortune of aging far worse than a lot of their contemporaries, mostly due to the nature of the games themselves – any sort of franchise based on collecting and battling among groups of friends is going to need a lot of polish between releases, which will inevitably leave older games in the dust, especially when each generation after would add more and more Pokemon with each new generation. But even if they haven’t aged all too well, there’s still plenty of fun to be had here, though a lot of it is not in ways the creators intended.
Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way first – the balance in this game is absolutely atrocious. There are some types that are just objectively better than others, some types are so scarce as to be utterly useless, some moves don’t work like they’re supposed to, some of the computers use moves they shouldn’t know… the game is a hot mess, to put it lightly. At points the games feel frustratingly unplayable, especially when you come up against Sabrina, the gym leader wielding the all-powerful type of Gen I, Psychic.
The more mixed parts of the game are the story and the beloved, exploitable glitches. The story here… well, there isn’t one. There’s sort of an excuse plot in place - you have to beat all the gyms, challenge the Elite Four, and battle your rival (who you can name whatever, but I’ll be referring to him by his canon name, Blue). Other than that, though? There’s not really any sort of overarching plot. You kind of just wander into situation after situation on your way to the next gym. Even the whole Team Rocket plot here is mostly just you beating them up because they prove to slightly inconvenience you at every turn. Unlike in later entries, where the player is roped into saving the world from destruction at the hands of all-powerful PokeGods. Here the plot is basically “Young boy accidentally foils the Mafia while on a walk with their pet.” It’s so hilariously simple it’s hard to totally hate it, and to be perfectly fair a lot of early RPGs had rather simplistic plots, and this was one of the first handheld RPGs, so I cut them a bit of slack here, especially seeing as we at least got Giovanni out of this.
The glitches are infamous and iconic, but even them I’m a bit mixed on. Like, I love Missingno as much as everyone else, but I think tat if you need to break a game this hard to have fun, it kind of ruins things. I feel the same way about the glitches as I do the Crissaegrim in Symphony of the Night sure, they’re cool, flashy, and powerful, but they make the game so pathetically easy from that point onwards it just isn’t that entertaining anymore.
Still, this game does excel in one area: character. There are a lot of great characters in this game, human and Pokemon. A lot of the gym leaders are absolutely iconic, and the Elite Four is mostly interesting, though I will say that they lack a lot of character compared to later Elite Fours (though he Gen III remakes ameliorated this problem). It’s pretty impressive how so much character was able to be crammed into these characters even though they are ostensibly just roadblocks on your way to the next gym.
Then there are the Pokemon. The designs in this generation are pretty simple, occasionally to a fault, but there is a reason for this: a lot of Pokemon are based on yokai or tsukumogami, both of which are pretty essential in Japanese folklore. Tsukumogami in particular are something the franchise seems to absolutely love, with the Voltorb and Magnemite lines being notable examples from this generation. Other Japanese folklore represented in this Generation include kitsune, which the Vulpix line is explicitly based on, kappas, which Golduck is inspired by, baku, which the Drowzee line represents, and so in. In fact, the entire concept of Pokemon is so entrenched in the concepts of yokai and Japanese spirits that it is endlessly amusing to see Westerners nitpicking the designs, ignoring the cultural meaning behind them. Pokemon have a variety of inspirations obviously, but the weirder you think a design is the more likely it is to have been based off of some sort of yokai.
I think the definitive Gen I experience is Yellow, which is inspired by the anime. You start off with Pikachu who follows behind you at all times, you can acquire all of the starters, the game overall feels more polished (but not overly so), and you get to fight Jessie and James. It’s a lot of fun, and it doesn’t heavily alter the story, instead adding a few neat little additions, something that would become common with third versions in the franchise. The Kanto games are a solid start to a franchise, but they definitely could have used a bit more work…
That’s where Generation II comes in.
Generation II honestly feels like what Generation I should have been like, leaving Red and Blue as the unpolished alpha, Yellow as the beta, and Gold and Silver as the full release. In fact, it kind of leaves the  second gen feeling a lot more like an expansion pack than anything else, but not in an obnoxious or bad way like a certain other game (COUGHOverwatch 2COUGH). These games are so much better in just about every conceivable way, it’s not even funny.
A lot of important series mainstays made their debut here. The biggest and best is probably the introduction of the Dark and Steel types, the latter of which really feels like it should have been in Generation 1 to begin with. Steel quickly established itself as a very defensive type, and Pokemon of that type are just naturally tough due to Steel resisting nearly every other type in the game, with it only being nerfed slightly once the games jumped to 3D. Dark on the other hand was extremely cool in concept, but a lot of the Pokemon of the type were not able to properly utilize their impressive movepools due to Dark being classified as a Special type and a lot of early Dark-types running with high physical stats.
Let me clarify real quick: prior to Generation IV, the type of the move determined whether it ran off of Physical or Special Attack, no matter how ludicrous it seemed. That means Dark moves like Bite and Fire moves like Blaze Kick ran off of the Special Attack stat despite almost always appearing on Pokemon that had much higher Physical Attack, leaving a lot of Dark-types in the dust until the Sinnoh games rolled along and balanced things. Still, this bump in usability did not stop Dark-types from being popular and beloved, with Pokemon like Umbreon, Sneasel, and Houndoom all debuting here in the land of Johto.
Speaking of new Pokemon, fewer were added this time around, only about 100, sort of fitting in with this game feeling like an expansion pack. A lot of the new Pokemon are odd and gimmicky, with strange creatures like Unown, Delibird, and Shuckle making their debut here, as well as the almighty Dunsparce. While time would be kind to some of these (Dunsparce and Shuckle in particular have gained niche uses and cult fandoms), other gimmicky Pokemon got left in the dust. Still, I do think having weird, gimmicky Pokemon adds some flavor to the world. If there’s one thing I am upset about, it’s some of the Pokemon that were cut from the game, revealed to the world in the prototype version of Gold and Silver that leaked online. We almst got a new Shellder evo that looked like Slowbro’s tail, as well as Pokemon like Lickilicky debuting two generations earlier (and with a far better design). Still, what we got is pretty impressive, and though I find Johto a tad bit vanilla, there are a lot of Pokemon I love in this generation.
Another great addition to the franchise is lore behind the Legendary Pokemon. Gen I did have a bit of lore in regards to Mew and Mewtwo if you chose to read all of the journals in Cinnabar Mansion, but the bird trio got nothing and sort of just felt like random bonus bosses than Pokemon really deserving the title of legends. In this game, every legend introduced feels legendary. Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Ho-Oh, and Lugia all have fascinating lore behind them, and while they don’t play a major part in the story or factor in to Team Rocket’s plans (save for Suicune in Crystal, who has its own subplot), it showed that even this early on they were working on making the legendaries feel bigger and more impressive to the point they deserved their title as legends.
Then of course there are the new additions to gameplay and collecting that helped really make the franchise shine. The introduction of held items is one of the most significant; now there were even more ways to improve your standing in a battle! Give your mon a berry, they’ll eat it when their health gets low! This feature would be expanded on in later games, but its start here introduced a whole new world of possibilities. There was also the splitting of the Special stat into Special Attack and Special Defense a choice that helped balance the games and not completely overpower the Psychic type. And speaking of, Type distribution was quite a bit better in these games, though the new types Steel and Dark as well as Ghost and Dragon were still fairly underutilized and rare.
Then there is the introduction of gender and breeding, which allowed players to get new Pokemon by leaving two Pokemon in the same egg group in a day care together. This not only allowed for the introduction of new baby Pokemon (which are largely useless and Pokedex filler if I’m being honest), but it gave the transforming blob of jello Ditto a new lease on life, as it could breed with absolutely ANYTHING, even some genderless Pokemon. Finally, we have the introduction of shiny Pokemon, Pokemon that had a different coloration than normal Pokemon and that almost surely existed to show off the power of the Game Boy Color. Back in Generation II, shinies were guaranteed to have perfect IVs of some sort or another to make their rarity more worthwhile, but this was scrapped after this gen. Still, there is nothing cooler than having that fabulous Pokemon with its incredible sparkle pop up while you’re roaming the wild, and nothing sadder than realizing you don’t have any balls to catch it.
The story here is also improved, which is a plus. A rarity for Pokemon games going forward, these games were true sequels to the originals, taking place a few years after the events of the Gen I games, and so the plot concerns the player getting roped in to not only stopping the remnants of Team Rocket trying to rise to power yet again, but also fighting off a mysterious rival named Silver, all while trying to complete the gym challenge. The stakes are a bit higher this time, but not overly so, and the plot definitely feels bigger and more important, with their being a sense of “I have to stop Team Rocket or something bad could happen” rather than “Ugh, these guys are blocking the way to the next gym, guess I better get rid of them.” And if that’s not enough, this has one of the more impressive post-games for the series… for its time. Much has been made of the late, great Satoru Iwata’s impressive cramming of the entirety of Kanto into the game, and you won’t hear me say that for the time these games came out what he did was impressive.
The thing is, this accomplishment has aged about as well as the games the Kanto region debuted in. Gen II’s version of Kanto has a very poor level curve, meaning you can basically steamroll through most of the gyms, and a lot of areas are blocked off, gone, or cut down. While it is cool to see all these places two years after the original games, it’s not nearly as fun when you’re crushing underleveled Pokemon and you can’t access Cerulean Cave or the legendary birds. When you finally acquire all the badges though, you get to head to Mt. Silver and make your way up to one of the definitive bonus bosses of the franchise – Red, the player character of the original games. He’s a pretty tough opponent, and the game seems to lean towards making Yellow the true canon game as Red has all three starters plus Pikachu,
There’s not much else to say, as there isn’t too much negative to say about the Johto region or the games. The definitive version is, of course, Crystal, as it has a bit of extra story and polish to it and even let you play as a girl for the first time, and though there are aspects that the remakes of these games would improve on, the Generation II games are actually extremely solid and a lot of fun to play to this day, even if they haven’t yet achieved optimal balance for Pokemon. At the very least, they’re a lot more fun and playable than the Gen I games.
It’s pretty undeniable that the first two generations put Pokemon on a pretty solid path of progression and started the franchise off with a bang. There was really nowhere to go from here but up, and boy oh boy did they ever go up from here.

Detective Pikachu Opinions (spoilerish)
(Overall, 7.5/10, very solid film)
The lead female character, Lucy Stevens, does little except to pad out the list of good guys Tim can turn to for help/information.
The second best joke in the entire film is Tim Goodman trying to talk to Lucy while she's flirting with him.
Lucy: "Down by the docks. Rough part of town, not the sorta place you wanna visit alone at night."
Tim: "Well, I'm actually pretty good at being alone at night."
He owns himself so hard, he immediately gives up and leaves her place without getting most of the information he came for.
Something I never knew I wanted: Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, miserable and singing the Pokemon Theme Song off-key.
Something I wanted but didn't get: Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu making a joke about Pokemon Day Cares.
Pikachu is... not a great detective. Some of the twists were ones I as an audience member had already mostly figured out, but they felt it necessary to spell out with additional clues.
What really elevates this film above the soulless cash grab it could have been, is the Pokemon. Designs aside, every human actor does a phenomenal job of convincing the audience that the Pokemon they're acting alongside really are there. I consciously turned off the mystery-solving part of my brain so that I could focus on all the glorious background details, at the expense of anticipating some of the heftier plot twists. I do not regret it. It's all so detailed, and feels very lived-in.
Given the number of Pokemon we know (up to Gen 7, not including SworSh), it's amazing how the world managed to utilize a respectable fraction of its 600+ pokemon in ways that felt very humorous and also practical and in-character. And nor were they limited to Generation 1. Machamps as traffic controllers. Growlithes and Sneasels as Normie and Edgy pets, respectively. Aipoms as adorable pests. Loudreds as DJs. Torterras as actual landmasses. Ditto as... everyone. Greninja as extra stealthy security guards. The list goes on.
The villain's motivation is a very very typical Pokemon villain motivation. Not that it's cliché or anything, but it's very consistent with the rantings of previous villains - Cyrus and Lysandre, for example. I also like the way the motivation is an idea that sounds good on paper... until the villain takes it to an insane, twisted extreme. That's what Pokemon lore is all about, really.
Considering that Detective Pikachu had no obligation to obey any kind of established canon from the anime series, it fits in really well as a sequel to Pokemon: The First Movie (1999), as Mewtwo's character is kept consistent but clearly developed. And his escape from the Kanto region is mentioned in the film. It's the little pieces of worldbuilding that all add up.
The trailer made some of the jokes, particularly during the Mr. Mime scene and the Charizard fight scene, look less funny than they actually were. If I hadn't already mostly anticipated them, I would have laughed harder.
That's about all I can think of. Sorry if the Read More tag didn't work, but I'm on mobile. I do feel like making another post about the lore implications of Ryme City and so forth as mentioned or shown by the movie.
But yeah, good film, you should definitely go and see it if you like Pokémon at all.

Medea Just Saw Pokemon: Detective Pikachu
Tumblr media
Well, it’s time I talk about a recent movie I just watched.
Tumblr media
No. No, not that one.
No, I’m not going to review Lelouch of the Resurrection. It’s been almost 10 years since viewing and reviewing the entire Code Geass series and thought it’d be best to sit this one out since I’m not a hard core Geass-fangirl.
Today it’s Detective Pikachu!
Tumblr media
Being the derpy-idiot I am, I have never played the Detective Pikachu game. I don’t know why. Not enough time on my hands? I’m gonna go with that excuse. But that doesn’t stop me from watching this creature feature. And I do mean CREATURES because this movie contains many, many, many pokemon. And not just Gen1. So you crybabies who bitch that Gen1 is the reason why no one can have nice things can stick a cork in it and watch this movie. They showed many pokemon from other generations. Just to name a few, Sneasel, Snubbull, Pancham, Greninja, Comfey, Loudred, Ludicolo, and Torterra.
I’m sure Clefable was somewhere, just not in my sight.
And you think it’s a funny that me, the derpy-idiot who never played Detective Pikachu to watch this film? My mother, who is almost 70 years old mind you, joined me in this escapade voluntarily. And to my amazement, she stayed awake the entire movie and actually liked it. Yeah, flashback to when movies # 1-5 came out and ask her to remember what she saw. She can’t answer. But I digress.
Warning before I continue, I will delve into spoilers. So...SPOILER ALERT! I hold nothing back from my “Just Saw” rants nor my actual reviews. So if you don’t want to be spoiled, sit this one out. Also be aware of the trailers that they show before the feature. There’s a good chance they’ll play that FuckUp the Hedgehog trailer. They did and I just facepalmed throughout the entire trailer (along with several other failures coming soon). NO ONE ASKED FOR LIVE ACTION DORA OR A SECOND ANGRY BIRDS!
On with it Medea! Okay, okay!
We begin the story with Mewtwo escaping from a laboratory and blowing up a car that’s driving away from the lab. Fast forward to Tim (a young adult played by Will Smith’s eldest son Justice Smith) being pressured by his friend to capture a pokemon. He gets Tim to capture a Cubone.
Now seeing a crying Cubone can trigger any true Pokemon fan due to the sad story of Cubone and his mother. And they even made a joke about how Cubone’s wearing the skull of his dead mother. Classy! But the capture didn’t go well and Cubone literally attacked Tim. Thankfully none of the Pokemon games nor Pokemon Go go that far. After that failure, Tim gets word that his father, Henry has passed away and must go to Ryme City.
Ryme City is a place where Human and Pokemon live together in harmony basically. No battles, no pokeballs, no harm. And all of this is made possible by a man named Howard Clifford (played by Bill Nighy). Tim goes to the detective agency where his father used to work to get keys to his apartment. Now from the looks of it, Tim and his old man do not see eye to eye. And the movie kinda shows little 5 second snipits of him younger every couple of seconds for a bit here. After the death of Tim’s mother when he was younger, they kinda drifted further apart.
Once Tim gets to the apartment, he’s stopped by a girl named Lucy Stevens, a girl who works as an intern at a news station. Oh yeah and she has a Psyduck (who can cause explosions with his mind if he has a headache). She’s been on the trail of Tim’s father and his disappearance. But of course that goes nowhere since it’s been years since Tim has seen his father. In his apartment Tim runs into two abnormal things. One, a capsule with purple gas. And two, a Pikachu he can understand! First the purple gas, let’s just say he accidentally released it and it got outside. Apparently, it has the power to turn pokemon demonic and vicious. Don’t believe me? Look at Aipom.
Tumblr media
See? Cute as a button. Now look at Detective Pikachu’s...
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
If your mission was to scare children so hard they shit themselves inside-out for a week, mission fucking accomplished!
And we see these scary fucking gremlins for several minutes as a horde of them are chasing Tim out the apartment, down a garbage chute, and into the streets. But then they turned back to normal. Yeah, nothing about this is normal. A Pikachu can talk to you and you just got chased by a horde of nightmare monkeys. Nothing like a cup of coffee to calm you from this. No. No amount of coffee could ever make this right. I don’t care what Pikachu the Coffee Addict says.
So Pikachu is Tim’s father’s partner pokemon. And Pikachu is hell-bent on proving that Henry is still alive by any means necessary. Only problem is that he has amnesia and has no recollection of what happened the night Henry disappeared. On another note...
Tumblr media
Rachel Lillis was Jigglypuff.
That’s right. O.G. Jigglypuff in the movie.
Rachel Lillis also voiced original Misty.
Just stating facts. Moving on.
Tim and Pikachu end up learning things about this mystery little by little with talking to Lucy, interrogating a Mr. Mime (and almost setting it on fire), and sneaking in an illegal underground cage match arena. Unfortunately, the owner of this arena has a vendetta against Pikachu because he hurt his Charizard in a previous match. So he wants a rematch.
Tumblr media
Remarkably Tim knows Pikachu’s best attacks, but Pikachu can’t remember. And then dude gives his Charizard that purple gas so it goes demonic. Yeah, there have been reports of pokemon going berserk and that purple gas is the culprit. Tim gets the guy to cough up information on where he gets it. Unfortunately another capsule breaks causing all the pokemon in the arena to go berserk. Thankfully all this resolved eventually with Charizard turning back to normal and a powerful water attack from a newly-evolved Gyarados.
Tim is now convinced that his father is still alive despite video footage of his car being flipped over and on fire. Tim and Pikachu then end up meeting Howard Clifford, the visionary for the city of Ryme. He knows what happened to Tim’s father. And through holographic technology shows them that it was Mewtwo that caused the accident to happen. Not only that but Pikachu was there on the scene and Mewtwo stole his memories. The reason behind this is that Howard’s son Roger has evil plans to use Mewtwo and is the reason behind that purple gas.
Tim gets Lucy to help them get to the lab where Mewtwo escaped from. Inside, they discovered more than they bargained for. While the lab was still abandoned and a wreck after Mewtwo destroyed the place, there were still Greninja and Torterra held in captivity. Pikachu hacks into the computer to see holographic flashbacks of moments before Mewtwo’s escape, including learning that Henry caught Mewtwo in the first place. Apparently Roger plans on manipulating with pokemon evolution and created the purple gas from Mewtwo. But then shit got real when the Greninja escaped from their pods and attacked Lucy and Tim.
As they escaped, Greninja went after them and was ready to attack. And now it’s time for Psyduck to step up. Unlike Psyduck in the anime with psychic attacks, this Psyduck’s attack when it gets a headache attacks like this...
Tumblr media
Which then caused a literal tectonic shift. But we can blame that on those captive Torterra. Because they are fucking giant. We proceed in several minutes of Lucy and Tim trying to escape from falling to their deaths. They do well with that except Pikachu wound up badly hurt. But thankfully a herd of Bulbasaur led Tim and Pikachu to a place in the forest to get help. Unfortunately that help came in the form of Mewtwo. And then Mewtwo was captured by Roger.
After all that, Pikachu starts to recover some memories and realizes that he thinks he’s to blame for Henry’s disappearance. Which causes Pikachu to finally spark up for the first time in the film (well over an hour in) and also split from Tim. So Pikachu wanders around by himself (while singing the first Pokemon opening) and Tim and Lucy drive back to town just in time for a parade. Tim heads up to tell Howard Clifford what his son was up to. But then...
DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUN...
Howard was the mastermind this entire time. After being diagnosed with a crippling disease that has now left him in a wheelchair, he went overboard with wanting to transfer his mind into the body of Mewtwo and through a machine, he was able to make that dream into a reality. His mind is now in the body of Mewtwo, literally the world’s strongest pokemon. Next phase, release the purple gas onto the crowd of people at the parade and have people’s minds in their pokemon’s bodies. Lucy tries to stop it from happening by trying to warn her colleagues and higher-ups but to no avail.
Pikachu finds a clue at the scene of Henry’s accident and thinks he’s got it all figured out and heads back to town. Pikachu ends up in a fight with Mewtwo that lasts several minutes. With pretty good effects for Volt Tackle and other attacks. Tim ends up finding Howard’s son tied up in a closet. Yeah, Roger was a good guy this whole time. But Tim ends up fighting with a pokemon. Or should I say, several pokemon in one. The answer is Ditto. Howard had a Ditto. And since all Ditto can do is transform, it has been transforming into different people this whole time to keep everyone thinking that Roger, Howard’s son was the bad guy.
Ditto turns into Machamp, Aipom, and other pokemon to take out Tim. Before you ask, yes all of them had those beady eyes. And then to add more nightmare fuel, it transformed into Tim’s love interest Lucy. The best way to describe Ditto transforming into Lucy would be this...
Tumblr media
Yeah, it was that creepy.
Long story short with the fights, Tim was able to rip the machine of Howard which stopped Mewtwo. And Ditto deflated eventually. Mewtwo now has his body back in control again so he made things right. Mewtwo turned everybody back to normal again. Then got Tim’s father back to him. How?
The night of the accident, Mewtwo put Henry’s mind in Pikachu’s body and lure Tim to help him with this case. So Tim’s father was in Pikachu this whole time.
Tumblr media
In the aftermath, Roger Clifford took over his father’s business and is going to set things right with the lab and earn back the public’s trust (all the while Howard being dragged off by police). Lucy gets a promotion. Tim is about to leave to go back home but decides to leave that old life behind and live with his father...Henry Ryan Reynolds and Pikachu. Hey, let’s face it. Selling insurance can suck it when you can solve mysteries with a Pikachu and your father.
Oh yeah...
Tumblr media
I ship them so hard.
This movie was...interesting. I didn’t hate it but I still find my own faults with it. There were several things that kinda bothered me. At the beginning, I felt like the acting was kind of hokey especially when it came to Tim and Lucy. But it got better as the story went along. Next, they never really explained why Tim didn’t really want a pokemon or partner pokemon. Was it because when he was supposed to become a trainer his mother died? I feel like I missed that connection.
With the pokemon...I know I gave a lot of flack for many of the designs when the trailer first came out late last year, but many of it was very creative. A good look at what everyone would look like in the real world. I just could have done without Mr. Mime and Aipom. But definite creativity with pokemon like Octillery, Snubbull, and Flareon.
And Ryan Reynolds...yes, he did superb. All of you hyper fan people that yelled at executives for years to get this to happen, thank you. And thank you for the casting agents that got him to play Pikachu. And thank you for adding the word “Hell” to the Pokemon universe. It’s out there. And also, thank you for having Ikue Ohtani voice Pikachu normally.
Despite all my irks with this picture, I thought it was fine. I did enjoy the twists this story gave me and I do give a recommendation to go see it. And perhaps one day I’ll play Detective Pikachu.
Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu is now in theaters. Oh yeah and they also give out Pokemon Trading Cards at the theaters too. You know, just like in the good old days. I got Pikachu, Psyduck, and Jigglypuff.

Note
Hi, I'm the anon who sent the messages about Rotom-Cyrus to TWJ. I wanted to explain myself. There are two books in Rotom's Room: one written by Charon where he says he found out about Rotom "by pure chance." So Charon is involved with Rotom (prob why he has that card) but he isn't the one who met Rotom as a kid. I don't want to spoil exactly what happens in USUM incase you haven't reached that part but it does basically confirm Cyrus is the one who wrote that account.
aaaa that suuuuuckscos literally its fuckin a book signed by charon how was i meant to know that oh the other book right next to it isnt by charon alsoand the trading card has no meaning whatsoeverand we’re just giving more sad backstory to a guy who already had a sad backstory and nope charon has no backstory whatsoever and was just super evil and everyone was right for all these years telling me i’m a jerk for liking this characterand right when basically the same thing just happened with faba seriouslyharmless comedic villain in sun and moon, is shown apparantly redeemed in the postgame, but NOPE now its retconned and he was The Most Evil One and something something lusamine isn’t bad anymore and everything she ever did is now being done by faba in the animecos hey yknow thats what i get for giving the benefit of the doubt to ~ugly people~seriously fuckin everyone hated faba right from when he was first revealed, you had people predicting his ENTIRE PLOT based on just one picture of him and his name and no information whatsoever on his personality. we all just fucking knew what was going to happen because he’s a science man with an ‘ugly’ face and he’s ~flambouyant~and then charon fuckin literally existed to be the ~worse man~ who was added to make cyrus more redeemablethats how he was treated in both mangas. he was made more evil just so cyrus could be redeemed, which was POINTLESS because we all already believed he could be redeemed! and fuck we even all already thought he had cute moments with his pokemon as a kid, geez! there’s a hundred fanarts of that same scenario but with murkrow or zubat or magikarp or houndour or sneasel...just fuckin the pokespe manga wrote a personalityless charon who murdered a child and was outright shown not being friends with rotom and actually hating rotom and getting his ass kicked by rotomand then in DPA we get not only More Evil Charon Who Kills People but also he’s drawn really stupidly over the top scary while everyone else is big eyed shoujo dorks. and our protagonist believes that everyone is redeemable except charon. lets show cyrus committing far more evil acts than charon ever did in the game, lets show him being ooc as fuck and talking about murdering pokemon while surrounded by graves. but THAT IS OKAY and our hero will insist on saying he’s redeemable but NOOOPE charon just fuckin steals some money and has an ugly grandpa face and he gets no such sympathy. he just exists to make you forget that moment of cyrus being ooc double evil. cos we literally retconned that charon was responsible for all cyrus’s evil acts last arc, even though he wasnt even in the fuckin story yetand like now my only damn consolation here is that the character i connected with when i first played the game is AT LEAST NOT THAT EVIL. but all the potential signs of headcanoning him as not evil were all false and i just should have known it. and apparantly its a better and more worthwhile plot to just give sad childhood man another pokemon he knew in his sad childhood, and the thing i thought was Really Cool And Interesting Writing didn’t actually exist. like seriously i was fuckin literally suffering from the same abusive childhood cyrus has in his backstory back when i played dppt and i DO NOT KNOW WHY but i ended up connecting with this stupid grandpa more than him and it saved me in a dark time more than him. back then i was a stupid fuck and i hated cyrus cos i saw myself in him, like i didnt want to admit that i was in an abusive family and i wanted to hate him for daring to want to take revenge against the world that fucked him over. i felt he didnt have the right, like I didnt have the right..so yeah i didnt even fully realise cyrus’s backstory until i replayed the game as an adult, but the one thing that did hit me back then was how unexpected and cool it was to turn our opinion of this jerk grandpa on its head. like i mean whoa! i didnt hate him like everyone else did, i found him pretty funny, but still i wasnt a big fan or anything until i saw that diary entry. like charon does LITERALLY NOTHING in the plot there is no reason they should have added him in a third version, he has no reason to exist unless he was meant to be the guy who introduces rotom’s new forms also added in the game. and it was such a mind blown moment! it doesnt even make him less evil! like “whoa this evil guy used to be a good kid once” could still work even if it WASNT a sign of him having potential redeemability, like it makes him so much more personally evil and horrible if he abandoned his best friend or something. I was so dissappointed you don’t get a boss battle with him, cos i went and caught that rotom and was hyped to defeat him with the pokemon he once betrayed and like there’s NONE OF THAT ANGLE if it was cyrus. it doesnt make rotom any different than any of his other pokemon that he owns right now and we know he already cares about, cos he has a crobat.and it JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSEbecause the journal SOUNDS like charon!they both talk all smart guy style but it felt more formal like how charon talksand like how charon boasts a lot, but the journal has him boasting about his friend instead. it sounds too enthusiastic to be cyrus...and like we already know where cyrus grew up as a kid and it wasnt eterna city. and he doesnt have a secret lab in galactic hq also in eterna city, like charon does. and also he’s not like friggin fifty years old so why would his childhood poke-friend be in a wrecked abandoned house if it was just ten years ago or something. and also why would they give charon this trading card where they draw the 100% evil guy having a vaguely genuine smile on his face and not looking like rotom hates him and he’s got it caged up or anything and also why would the card’s effect be all about friendship and why would they define him as The Rotom Guy and why would they even bother to give a trading card to charon if charon is a pointless character who never did anything important and had no actual relevance to this rotom wifi event except apparantly stealing a bunch of diaries from some other guy who was really responsible for it all. and why would they bother to point out that someone signed the diary if it wasnt the guy who wrote the diary, and also we are not going to sign the diary by the guy who actually wrote it. like if it was meant to be cyrus whey didnt they make it clearer?? nobody could be expected to have figured that out!also why does charon have a second rotom room in silph co in HGSS which timeline wise means he would have had it before DPPT and he’s talking about finding a rotom by chance before he ever found this diary that doesnt really belong to him. like why would he build an entire lab of form machines if he didnt own a rotom yet? how would he know enough to make them actually work for rotom if he never owned a rotom yet?why did nintendo decide to do all this if i wasnt supposed to reach the conclusion that charon had ANYTHING to do with rotom???why didnt they make it fucking clearer. why couldnt i have been saved years of clinging to this stupid ass headcanon and basing a lot of my taste in stories on the whole concept of ‘wow that was so fucking cool how they took a one dimensional looking villain and then turned it on our head with a cool reveal and made me super eager to see future stories with him’ and hey we’re not ever gonna get those and also everyone else was right and i should just give up and agree that ugly looking granddads will always be eviland why the fuck did i somehow link my self worth to such a random ass headcanon for a random ass character like seriously could someone have properly explained cyrus’s plot to me as a kid so i could have had him stop me from committing suicide instead. like seriously if they’d just made cyrus’s grandpa less hard to find and explained the plot more clearly and explained that he was the rotom kid AAAAAAAAARGHand i really didnt fucking need this, usum, right after also people started telling me that lusamine is ~really good~ and her whole child abuse plot is gone now like ha ha ha ha fucking ha lets crush bunni on two damn levelsand what is my fucking luck that this happened to happen right on the same day when i got some stupid ass anon hate and also had a horrible nightmare about my abusive fatherlike seriously dude who sent me this ask im really sorry ive had such an incoherant babbling reply to it, its just been a really bad day for me and like.. im not freaking out because of this minor headcanon being proven wrong, its just like i was already freaking out and having some random irrelevant headcanon bullshit happen right now is REALLY bad timing to push me off the edgehopefully i can calm down and come back and give a more coherant response of like.. why i headcanoned the different thing and why I’m sad its not true, even though i’m happy for you that your personal headcanon did become true instead.but like it sucks to be told ‘nope you’re not allowed to have your favourite character, his one and only personality trait was just a misconception you had’ during such a really bad timing of such an already bad daynintendo could u give us like a sassy science villain gramps who DOES have a redemption plot? or at least a plot that isnt ‘exists to be worse than the main villain’? like seriously why did it happen twice. i was happy at original sun and moon cos it felt like faba as charon but better written but then NOOOOPEjust...god...what.what sort of fuckface up in heaven decided to throw all the bad shit at me today and not at least spread it out across the rest of the week?
