He can’t deny he’s got some mixed feelings about Nick. Part of him says he should like the kid purely because Luke doesn’t—and because Luke’s reasons for not liking him are thinly-veiled misplaced jealousy at best—but the rest of him can’t help but be wary. Wary because Nick was Caleb for longer than Alex has been alive in the 21st century, and because he hurt Willie when he was possessed, hurt all of them, and yet Willie has been so quick to trust him, so quick to love him, to include Nick in every inch of his after-afterlife like nothing was ever wrong, like Nick deserves it.

Someone has to keep their guard up, in case Nick’s soul isn’t as saved as they all thought, and if it’s not going to be Willie, then it has to be Alex.

But, God. What little Alex can see of Nick’s face from this angle looks pale, his closed eyes deeply shadowed. Even snuggled up to Willie, he looks tense, like he can’t afford to truly relax, not even in his sleep. One of his hands is curled into a loose fist and resting just over Willie’s heart. He looks almost… cute. Safe. As safe as he can be, anyway.
