Me at the top of 'Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu Are the Same Person' AO3 Tag hill: Surely this won't awaken any feelings of interest, appreciation, or excessive sympathy for OG!Shen Qingqiu
Me, having slid down the slippery slope of 'Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu Are the Same Person' AO3 Tag hill and found herself strolling through 'Shen Jiu Gets a Happy Ending' AO3 Tag lane:

Holly as a half-elf half-goblin, as per Kitsune_Heart’s meta analysis on AO3. I dunno, it speaks to me. Isn’t she cute and feisty ? Just picture Holly, but she can throw fireballs. See ? Perfection.

and a full color ref sheet for laudanda too! her silver color is effectively just a weird combination of the king’s blue with a dilute effect from the queen and more typical abyssal genes. she’s a bit like a color shifted miranda.
her attitude is primarily tired, irritated, bitter, and cold. the fact that she thinks the crown is in poor hands who will only handle it irresponsibly is an open secret among the courts of the low royals, and she might be a little scorned about the whole issue of her inheritance. she’s the king’s favorite and she knows it (although “favorite” is a strong word for the exact relationship there). amanda and her have the most favorable relationship, even if it is primarily based off of fear and amanda notoriously loathes her elder sister, bellanda outright and vocally hates her, and miranda freezes up and lets her do what she wants without a fight.
the courts respect and fear her, as even though she’s no longer next-in-line (being as in my lore, inheritance goes to the youngest, for lore reasons, personal preference, and also just tightening the story) she’s been given command of the merkingdom’s diplomatic relationships, both within the merkingdom as well as with the land and the nations that inhabit it. no treaties within the middle royals are signed without her approval, no trades happen if she does not want them to, and she can fundamentally change the economic state of any region within the merkingdom if she wants to. other royals are more than willing to suck up to her if it means a better deal for themselves, and her favor oftentimes means more than other royals in similar positions. as she can also obtain rarer materials and goods from the land, those who she favors are often presented with unique advantages over their competition. no agreements with the land happen without her oversight either, and if any land nation decides to open formal terms with the merkingdom, she is there to oversee it, even if miranda is the one representing the king and the crown.

Of course, orange granita and iced coffee are not often served at alfresco breakfasts on cold mountain peaks, and bread with jam is more traditionally prepared as toast, but without a source of heat or any other cooking equipment, Sunny had done the best she could, and she hoped that Olaf and his troupe might appreciate her efforts.
“Caffefredde, sorbet, toast tartar,” she announced.
“What is this?” Count Olaf said suspiciously, peering into his coffee cup. “It looks like coffee, but it's freezing cold!”
“And what is this orange stuff?” Esmé asked suspiciously. I want fashionable, in food, not a handful of ice!”
Colette picked up a piece of the bread and stared at it suspiciously. “This toast feels raw,” she said. “Is it safe to eat raw toast?”
“Of course not,” Hugo said. “I bet that baby is trying to poison us.”
“Actually, the coffee isn't bad,” one of the white-faced women said, “even if it is a little bitter. Could someone pass the sugar, please?”
'Sugar?“ shrieked Count Olaf, erupting in anger.
-- the slippery slope
happy 20th to is it safe to eat raw toast, thank you miss colette

kard was SO FUN but honestly people need to be FAR more mindful of their phones at gigs. i get that you want to film for friends or for memories or whatever other reason, but every time a song starts and a hundred phones go up it makes it REMARKABLY difficult to actually see the stage.

Hate it when a piece of media is centered around a specific Ethical Debate and not one of the characters has or even brings up your position
You have a very specific opinion on this argument, you don't side with any of these people, and the writers seem to be completely overlooking the obvious answer

Can I be livid for a sec? Ive spent all these years in the pandemic being one of the few doin my part, vaccinating as much as possible and social distancing and wearing masks everywhere and not even leaving the house unless absolutely necessary. A sisyphean attempt to do literally anything about the spread of covid, because so few even care to do the bare minimum at this point. So I have to sit and watch while this small group of people on this godforsaken Earth are giving up opportunities and funtimes left and right to protect our loved ones, and the immunocompromised, and ourselves and everyone else, while the selfish majority don't give a shit and literally do whatever they want, passing strains of covid amongst themselves like its a game of hot potato and. Usually I can ignore any pings of jealousy and reassure myself that at LEAST. There's one less vector to spread the illness, and that keeps at least those around me safe, and I continue finding enjoyment in safe and quarantine-approved ways, but.
Today I got a text message from my dad, which is not unusal in itself, but opening it I realized it was a photo of my abuela. Sitting across the table from my dad in her rustic little house in spain, in the rustic little village that I've visited every summer for most of my childhood. The place I've considered my favorite on earth for most of my life and that I've held in my heart so fondly that nearly every night, I dream about being there again. The place I haven't been to in years as part of the many sacrifices I've taken to combat the pandemic. And yet my dad, part of the selfish and skeptical majority, took the risk without a second thought and unceremoniously come into contact with the disease-spreading, equally uncatious masses at the airport, sat in a largely un-masked airplane for 11 hours and is now having supper with family I've been trying to protect this whole tine. He doesn't consider whether he'll bring covid to them first before bringing it to his family back in the US, he doesn't think about the likleyhood of grandma, nearing her 90's, being able to survive such an ailment, and I just know that he will not give the fact that he couldve spread covid more to the hundreds of other people a second thought. He'll sleep soundly in my favorite room, he'll have fun in my favorite places, and he'll see my favorite people all while being so in-denial about the pandemic that his conciousness will remain clean the entire trip. And this time I'm dizzy with jealousy and rage, I'm sad and homesick and frustrated and worst of all, I can't express any of my feelings to my dad or mom or any family because they'll just laugh at me for being so paranoid and tell me to come over anyway. I'm not sure I'll ever see my beloved Requena ever again, nor any of my family nor resident friends because it seems that almost everyone in the world has forgotten that we're still in a pandemic, yet those self-entitled enough to participate in this collective amnesia can have fun and do whatever without a thought for the consequences they bring. I'll be huddled at home with thise large, gaping, emotional hole in my chest while people like Dad continue on like nothing's ever happened and we all have to suffer for it. It's not fair. I'm so close to tears, I'm just. So devistated and heartbroken. If you don't do your part to quarantine to the best of your ability and practice basic pandemic saftey when out, I hate you. You're awful and I hate you.

I'm thinking again on the fact that so often comments, criticism and readings on Jack dwell a lot on how he is barely human/a person/doesn't have a personality at the point of the story and, while I somewhat understand these points, I find them so lacking. I find them... ableist? I'm always doubtful to use the word here because I'm not sure if it's applied in this kind (mental health) of context, but something like that. And I find them extremely simplistic.
However, honestly, a big part of the reason for these readings being so popular is that the manga itself words it that way. But that's one of the problems I find in the manga. When I say P.andora Hear.ts is very good but unfortunately it is very manga-like at times, besides the 2000s homojokes and the like, I'm usually thinking about things like this. I feel like often characters and situations that are (potentially) very intricate instead of getting insightful deep overviews often get screwed by the writing itself, which falls into very manga tropes a lot in a bad way (not that every manga has to fall into them, or that every manga trope has to be bad or written badly).
I don't know... For instance, I'd argue R.askolnikov's capacity for love in Cr.ime and Punishmen.t is debatable, but it's never treated as if it made him less of a person, a human being or made him not have a personality. I'd say not even Svidrigailo.v, who is as much a Bad Guy™ as a character can be, gets that treatment by the writing. I'd say that even him or Mikol.ka are written as fully fleshed human beings with their intricate internal lives and feelings. Svidrig.ailov's last scene with D.unya is fascinating for both characters and spins the whole dynamic and makes you question the entire narrative and veracity of not only those two characters, but brings to mind several other conversations among different characters and throws light (and doubt!) on the main plot between R.askolnikov and Porf.iry.
In similar situations, Jack's humanity, personhood and personality are debated, doubted and even full on accepted as vanished. No one reads Crim.e and Punishmen.t and comes to the same conclusions about Raskolni.kov, Svidrig.ailov, Sony.a or Razu.mikhin. The writing doesn't allow it. The writing doesn't allow you to forget that humanity is diverse and multifaceted, that it can be sad and cruel and loving and monstrous, even all at the same time, or that a person may struggle with feeling at all; and one is still a person.

Show of hands, how many of you would talk about illegal immigration at work
How many of you would talk about it with people you don’t know very well?
And how many of you would suggest TO YOUR SUSTAINABILITY TEAM that your company should give money and take a public stance against illegal immigration?
How many of you would back up your stance with a publication owned by a church?
