I'll give the obvious answer with they're both constantly courting the other because them being married doesn't mean that a romance is over (they only got officially married because they already acted that way and lived together so might as well, it wasn't even a proposal it was "Hey Darc, want to get married?" "Yeah sure." over them reading books on the chaise) But also neither of them really buy into the whole monogamy thing so:

Doe's still absolutely smitten with the Shy Deviless which isn't helped by the fact that she's friends with Darcy and visits often. (She may or may not visit more often because she knows this and thinks its cute. Darcy also thinks it's cute so he's willing to help.)

Darcy on the other had has just met the STILL Dashing Smuggler so... he's having a good time on his end. Meanwhile Doe no longer has to explain why Darcy is tied with him for "Most attractive tomb colonist" on his list that he definitely hasn't been keeping of everyone he finds attractive in London.

#I will admit I haven’t fully read smen but from what I understand of it. it’s significantly lacking in cannibalism/eating #which is disappointing cause like. it could symbolize the cyclical nature of revenge and how feeding the pain just makes it hungrier #and keeps it from healing itself #also while avid horizon is cool and all I wish the end of smen was instead actually meeting eaten/candles #or what remains of it anyway. and either you ask a question and are eaten or you turn around and learn nothing #with the purpose of said eating being so that it can slowly rebuild its body and the reckoning can no longer be postponed #also it has to eat people because it was eaten itself #and it remakes itself a la hellraiser but a lot slower and needing a lot more bodies #voidilite-singularis

what will they never back down about, even if it makes them seem bad?

elias will never back down about being allowed their autonomy. if someone grabs their handles without consent they will bite and scream and even ditch their chair if they must, they will Not be controlled by another person. this frequently makes them look like an asshole. at the same time, they won't remove someone's choice in a matter if they won't budge. if they can be persuaded to come around, that's great, but to remove someone's ability to choose is too much, and yes, this did leed to Beechwood becoming a full monkey.

pennitha... hm, she tends to be more passive just out of depression, so this is hard to answer. at this point, getting revenge for her lover, and doing what (she thinks) will get revenge for another wrongful murder, even if both lead her to bad places.

letters won't let go what it doesn't understand, and it needs to work on that. it will keep asking questions about someone's exact thought process and mentally dissect them, and it needs to figure out some secrets must stay secret
