“I take it by the accent, you’re not from around here?” Sierra was smiling, clearly openly teasing one of the only patrons left in the dimly lit diner after the late dinner rush. An old white-haired man lingered in one of the back corner booths content with his newspaper sprawled out in several sections as his only desired company and apart from the line cook visible through the small service window, Sierra was the only remaining staff member on the floor for the night. Fiona had asked for her to cover the later shift, which she’d only agreed to when she’d slipped an extra twenty dollar bill into her pocket as it made this her third double already this week. Sierra knew she owed more money to her neighbor for babysitting her son than she’d made so far in her shift and by the looks of the vacant dining room it wasn’t liable to change until the bar crowds let out. 

“If you got turned around from those Trip Advisor directions, you’d make the third person just this week. More coffee? Refills are on the house.” She teased again with a lighthearted smirk, the brunette grabbing the coffee pot from the warmer behind the counter as she moved to the opposite side of the row of single swiveling bar stools and gestured with the spout of the pot for him to slide his mug closer. “I promise this pot was actually made today, I did it myself just a couple hours ago.”
