Owlman controls everything in Gotham, from the gutters to city hall. By his side is his loyal Talon, a creature that is fearfully whispered about, an inhuman, immortal killer.
In truth, Talon is human, or, more accurately, five different humans using the same identity. Bruce’s expectations are demanding, but failing to meet them means death. Talons are taught unquestioning obedience to Bruce, selfless service to Gotham, and deep loyalty to family.
Talon is human, and each of them have their own cracks in their ruthless commitment to Owlman’s cause. Slowly, between those cracks, small, delicate things try to grow.

Short Sharp Shock - nightmare prison regime
Short Sharp Shock was a military-style prison regime for young offenders that wrecked lives and didn't work as Tony McMahon discovers
One of the first measures introduced by the new Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher in 1979 was the so-called ‘short, sharp, shock’ policy for young offenders. When Adorno said “I consider the survival of National Socialism within democracy to be potentially more of a threat than the survival of fascist tendencies against democracy” in 1959 (The Meaning of Working Through the Past), in my mind he is subtweeting Arendt's Origins (1951) and the 1951-2 addenda/revisions/updates to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and if you understand this you understand a lot of my beliefs that sound crazy and intuitively Wrong before I explain them (e.g., "human rights as an international legal doctrine upholds the violence of enforced borders, and reifies the autonomy and rights of nations over the autonomy and rights of human beings; it is unethical.")

the most deliciously demeaning thing people can do to their fellow man is showing anonymous hate mail or hate comments addressed to some famous person or whatnot to the people who wrote them lmao… one does not need to expose them to the public; the fact that another person knows what they did is more than enough. that’s their personal Apocalypse, their Revelation.
