Higgins told me to check in on some dumb interview shit. I mean, some important interview shit.
Don’t worry, nobody in the press wants to talk to you.
No, no. That’s not actually true.

god idk it's also just. i do not care about Shandy and i do not care about Zava. what if we focused on continuing to develop and give screentime to characters we already know and love (*COUGH* jamie *COUGH* sam *COUGH* literally anyone else) considering it's, you know, the final season and all. what if we did that instead

A lot of people think Keeley will be forced to fire Shandy at some point in this season, and I agree that's likely based on how the episodes have gone so far, but I actually really don't want Shandy or Keeley's arcs to go that direction.
To me Shandy is a great mirror character to Keeley's own arc. At the start of the show Rebecca helps guide Keeley professionally. Keeley moves from being "famous for being almost famous" to having her own business. When Keeley talks to Rebecca about leaving to start her business Rebecca's advice is even "hire your best friend."
And now Keeley is in a position to act as mentor to her friend Shandy. Shandy even being the one to say that Keeley was the one woman who made it out. Kelley is clearly stepping into Rebecca's shoes from S1 and Shandy is stepping into Keeley's.
(Plus this hints that if Rebecca ends up leaving it will be Keeley that takes over the club.)
A running joke in this season has been characters questioning Shandy's role in Keeley's company and then suddenly understanding when it's mentioned they were friends first. (As though it’s just nepotism which also btw question's Keeley's capability at running a company.) But Shandy got the job with Keeley bc she made an impressive suggestion at a shoot, fixing a problem that Keeley wasn't sure how to handle. Shandy got the job because she is qualified, but since she doesn't have the degree and she pops bubblegum no one sees that skill.
We even see that she takes initiative to get a campaign going, does a great job getting the shoot set up and the marketing out, and needs almost no oversight by Keeley to do so. In the entire episode she makes a single mistake misjudging the client, and immediately fixes it when Keeley explains what's wrong.
I just hope the writers on the show are making the other characters purposefully be too hard on Shandy so that when they finally show how good she is they're forced to confront their own biases. Bc right now it's giving let's hate the woman in the man's world and judge her for every single way she doesn't fit in perfectly rather than see how much she's doing right and THAT is an experience I am all too familiar with...

For a show about acceptance and meeting people where they are, it’s weirdly judgmental of Shandy.
Everyone looks down on Shandy, even the “AFC himbos” & Higgins (the knowing looks and “oooohs” when Keeley says they’re friends). No way Shandy earned this job! She’s too stupid! But Keeley saw Shandy’s potential with her strobe light idea. Wish Keeley defended her more...
Shandy’s always too much. She’s too forthcoming. She’s too unapologetic. She’s too outrageous. She’s too ambitious. Funny how the same behaviours are rewarded in white characters, especially white women.
Shandy and Keeley share similar beginnings (”you made it out!”) but the narrative is much kinder to Keeley. She’s obscenely unprofessional towards her boss? Girl bonding :) She prioritises her work? Go work ethics :) She jokes around? So likeable :) She speaks up? Girl power :)
Shandy supposedly can’t stomach rejection due to failed relationships. But it makes no sense??? She’s in an industry notorious for rejecting people. She endured scathing ridicule from Barbara. Everybody patronises her. She keeps going.  But Keeley asking to change the tag line was too much?? Shandy scream-quits after being chastised once? Bullshit.
Some will blame it on her ambition getting to her head but... she’s been open about that and believed in herself from the start? Her ambition didn’t hinder her ability to work then so why should it now? And it’s normal to want to be the boss?? Most of us are just too shy to say it lol.
For a show about second chances, funny how Shandy doesn’t get that. Having the only woc be a ditzy underserving bimbo who doesn’t belong and later becomes white women’s tormentor? Not great.

i will die mad about the way they ended shandy's story. until then i thought she was going to a mirror of keeley, a rough-around-the-edges girl whose drive and cleverness was going to take her far. and it's extra salt in the wound that they ended up redeeming barbara, who was so nasty to not only shandy but also keeley? even at the end with keeley trying to give her the snowglobe. we deserved an ending where shandy and keeley raise kjpr from the ashes with their own hard work and celebrate by drinking champagne and using jamie like a footstool.
I knowwww right. That whole plotline made me so mad. Like, for one thing, what was the point? That you shouldn't give people a chance and uninformed opinions about people based on stereotypes and preconceived notions are usually true? For another, it was so frustrating to see Shandy as a woman of color narratively punished and written off for a lot of the same things that were treated as cute and quirky when Keeley as a white woman did them. For example, drinking at work. In s2e6, Keeley tells Ted that she's planning on getting drunk in the middle of the day because she "has some creative work to do" and "wants to be a little buzzed for it," but when Shandy does the same thing she gets fired. Very transparent
I actually liked that they redeemed Barbara tbh, because this is The Redemption Show and I do love a weirdgirl, but there's no reason that she should've replaced Shandy as Keeley's business partner. What should've happened (in terms of like. Lassopilled storytelling) is Barbara should've apologized to Shandy for making assumptions about her competence (because she absolutely was being terrible to her!) and been open to learning from and working with her going forward. I actually think Barbara, Keeley, and Shandy had the potential to be a really entertaining trio

Roy & Keeley as mentors
Keeley is mentoring Shandy, similar to her but not exactly.
Roy is now mentoring Jamie, similar to him but not exactly.
When Roy & Keeley teamed up to help Phoebe on Christmas, they balanced each other out. Keeley's sensitiveness got Phoebe to open up, Roy went straight into action to fix the problem.
Keeley convinced Roy that it was better not to beat up a kid, Roy convinced Keeley that maybe a bully should know it's not acceptable even if Phoebe's problem was solved.
Wouldn't it be fun if they both had challenges mentoring and ended up getting advice from each other to help make Jamie & Shandy better? Because Shandy may need more tough love than Keeley is used to giving and Jamie may need a gentler touch than Roy's ready to offer.
Just a thought...

“Or say something so shocking that you’re interview goes viral.”
this line is going to haunt me over the next week. it worries me a lot more than Trent having seen Colin and Michael together, there’s just something about it that seems ominous especially having come from Shandy who is not coming across as a likeable character.

And a third 🌹 for good luck.
Thank you for these Roses! It's hard to share the more angsty snippets when all of them seem like they're having so much fun.
That said, I finally have a snippet that isn't devastating (or whumpy)! From one of the earlier chapters of Oh God You're Gonna Get It, talking about the Keeley and Shandy of it all:
"It's not like she was always like this," Keeley explained, dabbing carefully at her eyes. "When we were working together, she was always really sweet. And, well, bossy, but in a kind way, you know? Introduced herself to anyone who looked nervous, stayed late to make sure we'd all leave as a group, things like that. And creative too! Better ideas on staging than half the photographers I worked with; we used to piss ourselves laughing at how easy it was for her to pick apart their ideas. I thought she was brilliant.
"But I guess that's harder to laugh at when you're on the receiving end."

idk the shandy leaving thing didn't really come out of nowhere though? She said right up front to keeley "you got yourself out"
despite keeley introducing rebecca as her mentor, all shandy saw was that keeley used rebecca as a step to get her own company and position
shandy, I think, was keeley's zava. where she knows what she wants and she's gonna go for it and she's not in a position to want or need keeley's version of the lasso way of business
