One of the awesome things that happens when people know you sew is they ask you if you want “things” - sewing machines, buttons, fabric, or in this case - thread. Until it arrived I had no idea how much thread we were talking about or how cool it would be to see brands, stores, and prices that no longer exist (swipe right!). These gifts often follow sad stories, but I like to think the original owner’s love of sewing gets passed through their notions. Today's project, @mccallpatterncompany #m6503 in a lovely cotton from a kind person at #sewupnorth. Nice quick and easy make and the fabric behaved beautifully. I think I'll get plenty of wear from it well into autumn with thick tights and boots. * For me, instinctual stitching is like finger painting. I remember the joy I felt while exploring the possibilities of painting with my hands. Now I do the same thing with my stitching. The exploratory journey of the needle and thread making it's way through the fabric without a plan or expectation of what it will become is inspiring to me and a profound expression of my artistry. I encourage you to make something if you feel the need, don't worry about whether it's good or not, just do it for you. The enjoyment of working with your hands and watching something come into being, without judgement, is magical. * I have many "irons in the fire," as my Pop used to say. Instead, maybe I should say, I have too many threaded needles on my pincushion. On my table today, a stenciled, painted and stitched piece of muslin atop an abstract painting, I'm still working on em both.
