[SVT Imprinted] Seungkwan: Found Family
Tumblr media
Characters: Seungkwan x female reader
Genre/warnings: werewolf au, college au, angst, vaguely tiny bits of fluff if you squint really hard and tilt ur head to the right, lots of mentions of reader’s family so if that ruins ur immersion i’m sorry lmao, reader was disowned and it talks about that a lot, lots of mentions of the skz pack in the beginning so bang chan is referred to as chris to avoid confusion, there’s a lot of reader not talking and it’s pretty faye-focused but it’s bc it’s alluding to backstory i’m sorry </3
Word count: 3,838
Summary: Seungkwan is the only member of the pack who has yet to imprint, but he’s always wondered if maybe he already did and just didn’t realize because of a strange feeling he has toward someone else in the pack. But when you randomly show up out of the blue on his doorstep with your brother, everything finally clicks. Unfortunately, his chances of being with you are slim to none and heavily depend on Faye.
a/n: dialogue in bold is in english!! also i don’t have the original request for seungkwan but this was requested and it’s finally happening and i can finally live in peace now <3

For the longest time, Seungkwan was keeping a secret. He had an odd draw to one of the mates ever since she was brought into the pack. It wasn’t like he imprinted on her, but he felt something...different toward her. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he was starting to wonder if he did actually imprint on her. But he thought the pull would’ve been stronger. So then what was it?
Whatever it was, Seungkwan started ignoring it after a while. It just became...a thing. It was something he felt but didn’t really think of anymore. And it was something he kind of had to get over anyway considering the girl in question had a literal family now with his brother.
It was a secret he was going to take to his grave.
Well, him and Hansol and Kira would take to their graves because they were the only two that he’d confided in. Hansol was usually only half-listening anyway, and he was often forgetful. On top of that, he wasn’t into gossip, and neither was his mate.
So the three of them would take that secret to their graves.
Seungkwan had driven home after another long day of classes that started early, but at least he got out shortly after noon time. He entered the house to see Chris, Changbin, Jamie, and a few members of his own pack sitting in the living room together as Changbin held Faye and Wonwoo’s daughter in their arms.
“She’s so tiny,” Changbin whispered, so Seungkwan assumed the little girl was asleep. “Are all babies this tiny?”
“Well, have you seen Wonwoo?” Jeonghan asked with a chuckle. “Guy’s a beanpole.”
“Can we wake up one of the other babies?” Chris asked with a chuckle. “I wanna hold one. Stop hogging her, Bin.”
“Hey,” Seungkwan finally spoke up, making the five wolves -- and Jamie -- in the living room look up at him. “Why’d they let you guys hold Sonny? They basically never put her down.”
“Faye really wanted to take a shower, and Wonwoo’s trying to make sure all of his work is finished before graduation at the end of the semester,” Soonyoung explained. “We’re babysitting!”
A tiny cry suddenly filled the room, and all eyes went straight to the baby in Changbin’s arms. Of course, Changbin looked terrified, thinking he’d done something wrong, but Jeonghan was quick to take the baby from him and assure him it was nothing.
“I think she’s hungry,” Seokmin spoke up.
“Me too, Sonny,” Chris sighed, sitting back against the couch. He said Elsie was still recovering, and he was trying to help Seungmin with the whole process, so he was overtired, overworked, and basically had no time to just sit down and eat something that wasn’t a protein bar. “Me too…”
Jeonghan went to the kitchen to take care of the baby with Soonyoung following him just to be near Sonny, while Seokmin stayed in the living room with Chris, Changbin, and Changbin’s mate. Seungkwan sighed and walked deeper into the living room and sat down in one of the empty chairs, setting his backpack on the ground with a soft grunt.
“You look pretty stressed. How’s Elsie these days?” Seungkwan asked, eyeing the younger alpha. “Is she less...hostile?”
Chris shrugged, “I am less stressed now that her and Seungmin are together all the time, but I guess she’s been taking these drugs that Yoongi gave them to help her with the pain. Seungmin said they’re making her kind of loopy, so she has sweet moments and then goes back to her old self.”
“At least they’re together,” Seungkwan shrugged. “From what we’ve been told, that’s big for them.
“Yeah, she’s not pushing him away anymore,” Changbin agreed, laying back against the couch and letting his hand find Jamie’s on his left. “Plus, with all the time they’re together, maybe she’ll finally officially accept him.”
“Didn’t she take a literal bullet for him?” Seokmin laughed softly. “That seems like an acceptance to me.”
“Elsie is Elsie, and she would still try to play it off like it’s nothing,” Chris sighed, his head resting against the back of the chair as he ran his fingers through his hair. “She just has...mental barriers she needs to work through, I think. Instinctual ones, too. But honestly, it’s not my place to psychoanalyze her.”
"Y’know what really sucks?” Changbin began with a chuckle, looking toward his alpha. “Minho rooming with Jeongin.”
“No, that sucks for Jeongin,” Chris corrected with his own laugh. “I’m just glad he didn’t come back to our place.”
A soft knock at the front door barely even interrupted their conversation. They did pause as they heard Wonwoo from all the way upstairs call, “I’ll get it!” but they went straight back to their conversation, not thinking much of it even though he was busy. The four of them continued to talk about Chris’ pack’s new living situations, up until they heard a low, soft growl.
The four wolves sat straight up, and Changbin leaned forward and put his arm over Jamie protectively. None of them sensed danger, but they knew there must’ve been a reason for Wonwoo’s reaction. They saw just in time as Jeonghan sprinted down the hallway toward the front door, so three of them got up to go see if he needed any help while Changbin stayed with Jamie.
But upon entering the hall and looking over to the open front door, all they saw was–
-
“Why the fuck are we doing this?” you mumbled, eyebrows furrowed low and your eyes on your feet as you walked down the long, winding driveway.
“You’re the one who agreed to leave when I mentioned the idea to you,” your brother reminded you with a chuckle.
“No, Auntie had to convince me to come,” you told him in a grumble. “You know how I feel about seeing Lila again...”
You didn’t see the way Lukas rolled his eyes, but you heard him scoff, “Do you know how often Faye asked about you? She misses you. She just... Look, you know how mom and dad were. And we were kids, _____.”
“That doesn’t excuse anything,” you stated, hot tears already wanting to form in your eyes.
You hated thinking about your past. You hated thinking about what your family did to you. As far as you were concerned, your only family was your Aunt Marcia who took you in without question, and your twin brother who kept in contact with you despite your parents’ decision to kick you out and cut off all contact.
Looking at Lukas now compared to you now, you couldn’t believe the two of you were twins. Obvious things about you had changed, but your faces used to be identical when you were kids. Now, you still looked similar, but you definitely weren’t twins. He’d even gotten taller than you.
“I know, I know,” Lukas nodded, placing a warm hand at the top of your back and rubbing big circles. He wanted to diffuse the situation before the two of you got to the door, and you knew that. So you just let him since you were already here and he was the only person you had in the entire country. “But maybe we can fix things, yeah?”
Lukas did have a point in the beginning: you agreed to come here. When he told you about the failed baby shower and mentioned he felt like he had to go after his newly-estranged sister, your aunt convinced you to go with him. You were against seeing Lila -- or Faye, as she now went by -- ever again, but like Lukas did with you, he wanted to go behind his family’s back and reach out to her. Only this time, it made a bigger difference.
When Lukas was a kid who would secretly write you notes and letters and hand-deliver them into Aunt Marcia’s mailbox, his parents never knew so he couldn’t get in trouble. There were a couple times that they had an idea he was going behind their back, like when he’d gotten a phone and was texting someone under the name you’d given yourself, but they never outright called him out for anything. He never got in trouble, but he knew they were suspicious and treated him differently because of it. But with Faye, everything broke. Lukas went off about how they not only treated Faye, but how they treated you years ago. He finally exploded, and his parents gladly let him walk out with the promise he could never come back. But Lukas was perfectly happy with that.
So he went to Aunt Marcia’s like you did, and he said he was going to go to Faye’s all the way in another country. And because Aunt Marcia wanted you to at least have some family, she urged you to go. She knew Lukas always cared about you and loved you, and she ‘had a feeling’ that Lila was the same way.
For some reason, you let yourself be convinced even though you weren’t even sure if you were ready to face your sister. Especially now that so much had changed, not just with you but with her. You were almost a completely different person now, and Lila was now a mom.
Did that make you an aunt now or did it not count since you were estranged?
Lukas paused, so you did, too. You finally lifted your head to see the house was only a couple yards in front of you. You had no time to think about the aunt dilemma.
Or anything, really.
“You ready?” he asked, smiling at you reassuringly and reaching down to give your hand a squeeze.
“Absolutely not,” you breathed.
“Perfect,” he grinned, “me neither.”
With that, he led you up to the door, your hands clammy and your knees wobbly and your heart thumping loudly, and he knocked.
-
You. You, with the most terrified look on your face as you stood halfway behind a guy who looked very similar to you and had almost the same underlying scent. You, with the prettiest eyes that were wide as you leaned away from the growling werewolf in front of you. You, who despite not seeing Seungkwan, stole his attention completely.
You were all he could see.
His heartbeat was picking up as the rest of the world seemed to be blocked out as he just stared at you, cowering from Wonwoo.
Wait, you were cowering from Wonwoo.
Seungkwan let out a warning growl of his own, which immediately had everyone involved wondering what the fuck he was getting defensive for. Even Jeonghan had turned his head as he gripped Wonwoo’s shoulders, giving his brother a confused look.
And then it all clicked.
“Won, you might wanna lay off,” Jeonghan warned, trying to tug Wonwoo away from you in the doorway. When that did nothing, his turned to call over his shoulder, “Hey, Faye! You better get down here!”
So Faye came rushing down because of the urgency of Jeonghan’s voice. She was still drying her hair with a towel, but she was dressed in cotton shorts and a t-shirt. She took the stairs as quickly as she could – which wasn’t quick at all since she was still recovering from being pregnant – before gasping and dropping the towel when she saw the scene before her, running toward Wonwoo.
“Wonwoo, what the fuck is your–” Faye froze when she slipped passed the small crowd of wolves, staring wide-eyed at you. “Lukas?! …_____?”
Lukas relaxed a bit in front of you seeing your sister. He was brave as hell keeping himself between you and all the men in the doorway -- you still didn’t really believe him when he said they were werewolves -- but now he seemed to calm down as if somehow Faye would protect both of you.
“Hey, sis,” he chuckled a little awkwardly.
“Sis?” Jeonghan repeated.
Chris’ eyes went wide, ”Sis…?”
“Wha–” Faye titled her head to one side, stepping around Wonwoo, who only grabbed at her waist to protect her. “What are you doing here?”
“…I didn’t like how things happened back at home,” he admitted with an awkward shrug. Despite him relaxing now that Faye was here, he still felt incredibly uncomfortable, and you could tell. It wasn’t helping your nerves, either. “I didn’t agree with anything that happened, but–”
“Then why didn’t you ever speak up?” your sister snapped, glaring up at you. “Why did you just let them disown me like that?”
“I could say the same thing to you,” you spoke up without thinking. Your own anger and betrayal got the best of you, and your words came out in a passive-aggressive mumble.
But Faye heard it, and she stayed silent.
At least for a moment as she looked at you. She hadn’t seen you in years, and you looked so different from the last time she had -- obviously. You could see tears start to well in her eyes, but she wiggled her nose and looked down at the ground for a second before taking a deep breath and looking back at Lukas with a nod.
“So...what happened?” she asked, her voice softer now.
"What do you think happened?” he chuckled. “I got the boot, too. Thank god for Aunt Marcia, right?”
Faye laughed softly and nodded, “Yeah, she’s always been so different from mom.”
Seungkwan only vaguely knew about what happened back in America when Faye, Wonwoo, and Minghao went to visit. Nobody really spoke about it, but Wonwoo was rushing around behind Faye’s back trying to plan a proposal because he ‘wanted to change her name sooner rather than later’. They had an inkling, too, that shit hit the fan since Faye was pretty depressed for a while after coming home, and they could often hear her crying in her room. But obviously nobody was going to ask.
But her brother had no confirmed it for them.
“I came back to say I’m sorry,” he continued, looking back up at your sister so she’d know he was sincere. “I’d still be sorry even if they didn’t disown me. I wanted to work things out with you. I still wanna be your brother.”
Faye’s eyes drifted toward you and you swallowed a lump in your throat, “I doubt that’s the case for you, right?”
You knew Faye always had a soft spot for Lukas, and you were kind of hoping that could be used to your advantage and you could just kind of slip by like his shadow without having to confront her or anything else. But you should’ve known that she’d ask questions considering you’d been avoiding her since middle school.
“Hey,” Lukas stepped in the way of her line of sight, getting her to focus back on him, “could we...not do that right now? Definitely another time soon, but...maybe not...now.”
He was gesturing with his head to the audience behind her, and she sighed and nodded, “Yeah, you’re right. Um...you guys can just come in, if you want.”
“Who are they, exactly?” Soonyoung asked quietly, never having a filter.
As Faye turned to face the small crowd in the doorway, she gestured to you and Lukas, “This is my younger brother, Lukas. And my...” she turned her head to look at you, seeming to wonder if she was supposed to introduce you as her sister or not.
All you did was stare back at her, not even knowing what was being said.
“My...s-sister..._____.”
And then Seungkwan finally realized what it was about Faye that kept drawing him in, “Sister…”
“Like...the _____?” Soonyoung asked.
Wonwoo jabbed him in the gut with his elbow
He vaguely heard Chris whisper to Jeonghan that he was gonna grab Changbin and Jamie and leave out the back to let the pack sort everything out, but he was too in shock to really process much of anything around him. He didn’t even hear the apology Wonwoo offered before promising it was totally safe for you and your brother to come in, and they’d start making dinner or something.
And when your eyes finally met his, oh boy, was he gone.
You felt this strange, intense feeling when you saw him. It was like if love at first sight was a thing. It was a feeling like when you had a crush on someone in school and you would find every little excuse to see them or be around them.
As if seeing your estranged sister wasn’t enough, but now you suddenly had some intense crush on one of the guys she lived with.
A werewolf, you reminded yourself.
As Jeonghan closed the door and turned to look at Soonyoung, who was staring at Seungkwan as he watched you walk by, the older wolf mumbled with concern, “This should be interesting.”
-
“So where are you staying?” Faye asked.
You were letting Lukas do all the talking. You were painfully anxious and uncomfortable, and he already knew you would be. He took the lead without you having to say anything.
“Just some hotel,” he shrugged. “It’s not too far away.”
“Is that your long term plan?” she chuckled.
You were thankful not many people entered the kitchen. You were already pretty terrified and full of anxiety, and having to see and deal with so many strangers would’ve made it worse.
What you didn’t know was that all of the wolves in the house could sense your anxiety and stayed hidden away and just listened in on the conversation.
Seungkwan also stayed hidden, sitting in the living room while a few of his brother sat there and chuckled at him because they knew what had happened. Word traveled fast in the house.
“For now, we’re visiting,” Lukas explained. “We’re here for a week and a half and then we’re going back home.”
In the living room, Seungkwan’s heart sank. Like Faye, he assumed you’d run away from home to a different country, maybe hoping you could crash with her or something. You were only here for a week and a half? What was he supposed to do with that? Confess within that time frame? That seemed insane! But letting you leave with the possibility of never seeing you again was equally as crazy.
“When you said you got kicked out, you made it seem like you were moving here,” Faye frowned.
“You think we can afford to drop everything and move?” he snorted.
“No, but Auntie Marcia probably could,” she joked. “She has that child therapist money.”
You let out a snort, and in that instant, the tension seemed to melt at least a little bit. Faye smiled at you even though you were still staring at the table as you slouched in your seat, and then she looked to Lukas who seemed far too happy that you’d done the bare minimum. But to be fair, he didn’t expect you to really have any sort of good interaction with Faye at all, so he had to celebrate the little wins.
“Well, I appreciate you guys coming to find me,” she changed the subject back, “but, honestly, talking here is kind of difficult. These guys can hear everything, so I think we should, like, get lunch or something.”
Honestly, you understood, but you were still a little salty that your sister wasn’t going to say anything to you about what happened. Not even a vague apology or nothing. After years of no contact, she just brushed over it like it was nothing. It hurt. It stung. It made you angry and upset.
“Yeah, we can do that,” Lukas nodded. “Not like we really have much going on, so just let us know when you’re free.”
“Honestly, I’d prefer sooner rather than later,” Faye said, but her eyes were on you. You glanced up at her when you felt her looking at you. “I really owe you an apology, _____. It’s been way too long. So...yeah, probably within the next couple days if that’s okay.”
You didn’t say anything, just nodded and looked back down at the table.
“Yeah, whatever works with your schedule,” Lukas nodded casually like you were making simple lunch plans and not plans to probably trauma dump absolutely all of your family history. “I mean, you have...a literal baby now.”
“Oh my god, I can’t believe I forgot to show you Sonny!” Faye gasped, suddenly standing up from her seat.
“Let’s do that at lunch, love,” Wonwoo told her, gently grabbing her arm and pulling her back to her seat. “It’s getting late, anyway, and I think all of this was enough excitement today.”
“Yeah, we’ve got time to meet her,” Lukas smiled. “We’ll get going, though. Just, y’know, text if you need us.”
As Wonwoo and Faye showed you and Lukas out, chaos began to erupt inside the house. Members of the pack rushed down the stairs to Seungkwan and began bombarding him. Finally, the entire pack had imprinted, but Seungkwan’s case was much more sensitive.
And you were only here for a week and a half. A week and a half for you and Faye to somehow fix whatever happened between you or he didn’t stand a chance either way. But he didn’t even know the whole story so he couldn’t even try to help if he wanted to.
“Guess we’re keeping it in the family, huh?” Soonyoung joked with a wide grin, trying to lighten the mood.
But Faye and Wonwoo had come back into the house, and the new mom had heard the comment, asking, “What does that mean?”
On top of everything else, now there was a new task: admitting to Faye that Seungkwan had imprinted on you, her sister who her and her family had abandoned.
Wonwoo caught onto the vibe in the room as everyone seemed to look around, wondering what to do or say. He held onto Faye’s waist and said, “Sonny needs us upstairs.”
He knew she wouldn’t let it go by the way she said, “Oh...kay...” and gave Soonyoung one last confused glance before letting Wonwoo lead her upstairs.
Then the pack was looking at Seungkwan again, who was figuratively shitting bricks as he sat on the couch and took in absolutely everything that his current situation had going against him. You and Faye had a rocky relationship -- so rocky that your relationship was basically non-existent -- you were only here for less than two weeks so that was the time frame for you two to somehow fix whatever was wrong -- he still didn’t know how deep that situation actually went so he didn’t know if it could be fixed -- and for him to confess to you when you didn’t even really meet him, and he had to tell Faye that he imprinted on her estranged sister.
Fate hated him. Fate hated him so goddamn much.
Jihoon let out a sigh and pat his shoulder, “Well, good luck, buddy.”

Tumblr media
What started out as an outrageous idea among 13 friends back in 2014, eventually turned into the multi-billion dollar business it is today. One night, on one of their monthly outings, Seungcheol had drunkenly suggested that it would be cool if they went into business together. Initially, that idea was completely shut down by most of the members, because the thought of the 13 of them working together sounded like a recipe for disaster. Besides, all of them had different goals in life, so how would that fit into one business model?
“Listen up! What if…okay, what if we started a company together?”. The table fell silent for a moment, everyone’s eyes on their good friend.
“You’re joking right? That is like the worst idea I’ve ever heard.” Jeonghan laughed, followed by the laughter and affirmations of several of the others. Jihoon, being the only sober one out of the bunch, shook his head before adding to Jeonghan’s previous statement.
“Hyung is right. We will all want to strangle each other before we even have the chance to set anything up.”
Soonyoung, who was located next to Seungcheol and more than drunk enough, grabbed onto his shoulder and let out a giggle. “Hyuuung. Do you want to start a tiger business? I totally have some ideas.”
“Yah! No one in their right mind would want to start a tiger business!” Seungkwan called from the end of the table. With a frown adorning his face and a set of pouty lips, Soonyoung turned his head to argue with the younger man.
“Why not? Tigers are awesome!”
Seungcheol picked up a piece of kimbap and put it inside his mouth to shut him up. If it was up to Soonyoung, he would never stop talking about tigers. “Okay enough, whatever. You guys are no fun. Just keep complaining about your shitty jobs then,” he sighed, deciding to drop the topic for now.
But, ever since Seungcheol’s crazy suggestion, no one was able to fully erase that thought from their mind. While most of them were pretty content with their lives, they couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to live their dream.
Take Mingyu for instance, who worked as a chef in a small restaurant in town. He wouldn’t necessarily classify himself as the best cook, unlike his friends, who never failed to hype him up. Anyone who tasted Mingyu’s cooking would always want to come back for more. The man really had the ability to make anything taste exceptional. Although cooking for others like this was his passion and he really liked his job, his ideal future was one where he had his own restaurant chain and perhaps even a platform to share his food creations worldwide.
Wonwoo was in a similar situation as Mingyu. He’d always had a passion for computers and videogames, so it wasn’t really a surprise to anyone that Wonwoo had gone into the game developing business. That’s how he ended up as a game developer at a start-up and he genuinely liked it, but of course, the thought of having his own company and being able to bring his ideas to life sounded amazing. However, it also sounded like an impossibility at this stage in his life.
Soonyoung (or Hoshi, a name given to him because of his love for tigers) was also one of the people in the group that turned his passion into his career. His love for dancing and competing followed him into adulthood, which is why he started working for a large dance studio in Seoul, where he gave workshops, taught his choreos and participated in competitions with his students. Though he had pretty much realized his dream, there was always the longing for more, for something bigger, like his own dance studio where he was free to do whatever and however he pleased.
Someone with a similar mindset was Hansol (also known as Vernon), who was as passionate about cats as a person could be. That’s how he ended up getting a paid job at an animal shelter. If it was up to him, he’d adopt all the cats in the world, but his living situation unfortunately didn’t permit him to do so. Instead, he cared for the animals as if they were his children while at the same time trying to help them find their forever homes. Of course this wasn’t the end goal. No, what he really wanted was to start a cat rescue center because there were just too many cats out there that needed his help.
Everyone who knew Chan (or Dino), knew that there were two things in life that he loved most. The first one was a passion that he obviously shared with Soonyoung: dancing. The second and probably more dominant one was literally anything involving movies. Whether it was watching them, analyzing them, discussing them or making them, he loved all of it. It just so happened that he managed to get a job in the movie industry as a set production assistant. Despite that, he’d always felt like something was missing in his life. He didn’t want to be someone’s assistant and he certainly didn’t want to listen to anyone telling him what to do. What did he want then? What he wanted was to call the shots, from the conceptualization to realization of the whole movie. But that was only something he could dream of, right?
Another person with a big passion was Jisoo (or Joshua, as his friends liked to call him), who worked as an English professor at Seoul National University. When he was still a child, he developed an interest in language, both in the sense of learning new languages and learning more about the ins and outs of how humans acquire languages. This interest only grew when he moved from Los Angeles to Seoul, where he took up Korean and finally met his 12 best friends at a social event he’d forced himself to go to. Being exposed to so many different languages, he got inspired and eventually started to dream about establishing a language lab. The thought of being able to contribute to research while at the same time helping people acquire a new language sounded amazing. What was holding him back from doing just that? That was definitely fear of losing his stable job, the uncertainty that came with the territory and more importantly, the fear of failure.
Junhui (or Jun for short) made the big move from China four years ago when he was offered a professorship at Seoul National University’s College of Music. From a young age, his parents realized that he had a talent for music. This showed in the fact that it never really took him long to learn anything when it came to music. Whether it was playing the piano, singing or teaching others about certain musical aspects, he could do it all, which is probably why it was only natural for him to make it his career. He was well-respected in his field and he felt at home in Korea, but he did miss his home country from time to time. His job did not allow him to return often, so he couldn’t deny that he wished he was his own boss sometimes, traveling whenever he wanted to wherever he wanted while still doing what he loved most.
Jun’s childhood friend Minghao, also known by his stage name, The8, followed in his footsteps not long after he’d left China to pursue a career in music. Although Minghao loved music too, his true passion was martial arts. Together with Jun, he started taking classes back when they were children. However, out of the two, he was the one who really took it to the next level. Over the years, he’d acquired a ton of experience and won plenty of matches, and inevitably, he took up teaching to share his skills with others. When he heard about his best friend leaving, he was both upset and happy. Upset because he would be losing his closest friend, but happy about the fact that Jun was chasing a big opportunity. Much to his surprise, it was only about a year later when he got the offer to work for a large martial arts school in Seoul. That was of course a no-brainer, since he got to be closer to his best friend again, and this provided him with the opportunity to gain more exposure for himself. However, that didn’t take away the fact that he dreamed of starting his own fight club someday.
Aside from the ones who somehow had made their passion their work, there were also those who were stuck with office jobs that did not define them at all. It was more of a case of ‘my dreams are unrealistic, so I’ll stick with this job for now’.
One of these people was Jeonghan, who worked as a marketing specialist in a team that consisted of about fifty people. Although he was good at it, he truly hated his job. He would much rather scour through fashion magazines and fabric stores to gather ideas for his next outfit. His friends had often said that he should do something with his talent and share his creations on a platform. Hell, he could even model his own designs, because they were that good. And with his looks, he could easily make it if only he tried. However, it was hard to convince Jeonghan of something that he did not believe in himself. In his words: his dream of starting his own fashion brand would just have to be placed on a back burner for now.
Just like Jeonghan, Jihoon (also known by his alias Woozi) hated his account manager job with a passion. Everybody was way too uptight and obsessed with targets, while all he wanted was to go home and lock himself up in his music room. All his friends and family were aware that Jihoon had a huge talent for music production and everything included in that: lyric writing, composing, arranging, you name it. However, after receiving a couple of rejections from big labels, he began to lose hope and pretty much gave up on his dream. Instead, he chose to spend his free time producing music, while secretly wishing for a life in which he could have his own studio label.
Seungkwan worked as an office administrator for a mid-level company in Seoul. Among his friends, he was known as the moodmaker of the group. He loved to make people laugh and he was really good at it too. Wherever he went, no matter how down people were feeling, he always managed to put a smile on people’s faces. It was truly a gift. This was one of the reasons why he started doing stand-up comedy on Wednesday nights. It gave him the chance to show people his talents and he got to come up with a bunch of jokes and skits. Sure, it was a lot of fun and he loved doing it, but what he really wanted was to reach a bigger audience. He had so many ideas and there was no way that one stand-up comedy night a week was going to keep him satisfied in the long run.
Similarly, Seokmin loved to be on stage, where he was also known as Dokyeom, or DK for short. Not in the way that Seungkwan did, but he loved to act and sing, which is why he joined the local theater club in the first place. However, every time he stepped out of the theater, he was hit with the reality that he wasn’t in the theater business, but just a simple customer service employee who had to deal with people complaining about the most ridiculous things on a daily basis. If it were up to him, and if he had the means for it, he’d quit on the spot and venture into the world of theater like he’d always wanted to do.
And then lastly, there was Seungcheol (or as friends loved to call him: S.Coups), who was completely fed up with his job as a bank manager. Sure, the pay was more than satisfactory and he was well-respected, but he was getting sick and tired of having to be at every beck and call of the higher ups, especially when he didn’t agree with most of their decisions. But who was he to change that? He was just a manager, someone way below them with hardly any power. That’s why he, in a drunken mood, had suggested starting a business with his best friends. If he wanted to live his life the way he wanted to, then he had to step up the game and make some serious changes. Of course he didn’t expect any of his friends to take him up on his idea. At least, that’s what he thought.
Over the few weeks that followed the get-together, Seungcheol would occasionally get a call from one of his friends. Jeonghan was the first one to call, followed by Seokmin, Jihoon, Minghao, Soonyoung and so on, all until every single one of his good friends had contacted him. And what surprised Seungcheol most was that all of them had called about one specific thing: the crazy business idea. Even after the calls, he kept receiving messages with questions related to the matter.
Some wanted to know whether he was actually serious, while others wanted to know how he visualized a business involving all of them, especially since they were all so different. And would they all be in charge or was he going to take up that role? Seungcheol obviously did not have a perfect answer to each question since he was still trying to figure it out himself too. All he knew was that it was time to take it more seriously so that he could bring it up again at the upcoming get-together. And that is exactly what he did.
“So, we’re really going to do this?” Seokmin's voice finally broke the silence in the room. Everyone started looking at each other, anxiously waiting and practically expecting for at least someone to back out while they still could. Only that never happened. Did this mean that everyone really wanted to take this risk? To risk possibly throwing away the good things they already had, only because they were greedy for more?
“I guess we are,” Seungcheol nodded, a determined look taking over his face. Wonwoo, who hadn’t said much the entire evening, suddenly started laughing, his voice echoing through Jun’s crowded living room.
“People will think we’re fucking crazy.”
“At least we’ll be crazy together, Hyung,” Chan grinned from his seat and reached his hand out to lift his beer up.
“Hell yeah! Let’s drink to that!” Mingyu cheered and followed in Chan’s footsteps by holding up his drink. Pretty soon, everyone started lifting up their bottles and cups before toasting to the future. Despite the fact that the future in itself was still pretty uncertain, the most important thing was that they were together, and as long as they believed in their plan, it would work out.
And so SEVENTEEN World was eventually founded on May 26, 2015. As would be expected for any start-up, they went through many hardships to get the company where it is today, the main obstacle being money. Together, the 13 men already had a fair amount saved up, but it was nowhere near enough to realize anything. They would be forced to rely on bank loans and crowdfunding to get their plan started off the ground. So, naturally, the first step was to set up a proper business plan. Well, that was easier said than done. The weeks that followed consisted of numerous meetings, arguments, and even near-mental breakdowns for some of the men. Getting the 13 of them together was already a challenge in itself. Add to that all of their personalities, each with different opinions of what the company should look like and you have a recipe for disaster.
At least one thing everyone could agree on was that Seungcheol should be the one in charge of everything. He just had that natural gift of leadership. In particular when it came to his friends, he always made sure to take everyone’s feelings into account, no matter the situation. That is probably why he’d made it to manager at a large bank in Seoul in the first place.
The more difficult issue at hand, however, was deciding on the company’s concept. Wonwoo, for instance, wanted to take it in a technical direction. Then there was Mingyu, who wanted to have a food theme. Seungkwan and Seokmin wanted to provide entertainment, whereas Vernon went in the complete opposite direction by letting everyone know about his vision for a cat rescue center. There was a moment when Seungcheol got so fed up with everyone’s bickering that he proposed to include all of their ideas into the business model. It seemed to do the trick, because the bickering quickly came to an end, with all men turning their attention to Seungcheol once again.
They finally came to the conclusion that the end goal would be to establish a parent company that would house various other companies, each catering to the specific wants and needs of the 13 friends. Obviously, it wasn’t possible to do everything at once (because that would have been a foolish thought). Preferably, they wanted to start with something that would generate a reasonable amount of money. That’s how they decided on an investment company, because with Seungcheol’s knowledge about the ins and outs of the financial world, it would enable them to generate the funds needed to expand to further businesses. To everyone’s surprise, it was Seungkwan who came up with the idea. He was one of the people with the strongest opinions and usually wasn’t one to easily give up on his vision. But, he, like all his other friends, knew that everyone had to compromise a little bit if they wanted this to work out.
The rest of the months were spent finalizing the business plan and presenting it to various banks, potential investors and anyone that could possibly help them realize their vision. The fact that they persisted in their ventures, even while working their regular jobs on the side, and even when they had already received multiple rejections, was probably what caused them to succeed in the end. Giving up was not an option, even if it meant having to suffer for a little bit. It was actually very fitting for the slogan they had come up with: One dream, One mind, One team – No vision too big. Because really, in their mindsets at the time (and even today), no dream or vision was too big.
Similarly, they wanted the company name to truly represent them, but it proved to be challenging to come up with something both catchy and professional. It was by coincidence that they decided on the name SEVENTEEN World. During one of their monthly get-togethers at Seungkwan’s place, Joshua had suddenly jumped up from his seat and yelled out the name. He went on to explain that the World-part represented their vision of creating a business empire, while the SEVENTEEN concept was derived from there being 13 of them, divided into a total of three nationalities (i.e., Korean, Chinese and American), and them always coming together to form one cohesive group: 13 + 3 + 1 = 17. Everyone immediately agreed that that was the one. It was well-thought-out and the concept behind it perfectly described their team.
Now, fast forwarding to 8 years later, SEVENTEEN World has grown into one of the biggest companies in South Korea. It currently houses a total of 12 companies, each managed by their respective CEOs who, even to this day, still work their butts off to keep their businesses thriving, both nationally and internationally.
Tumblr media
Then there is Seungcheol, who isn’t necessarily in charge of any of the enterprises. No, instead, he manages the whole of SEVENTEEN World, a role that he takes very seriously and has pretty much dedicated his life to. In other words, you could say that he was one of the biggest and most important driving forces behind the success of the corporation. He may never want to admit it, but according to the other 12 CEOs, SEVENTEEN World would certainly not have been as prosperous without the blood, sweat and tears that their oldest brother had put in over the years.
Overall, it is fair to say that each one of the 13 CEOs is living their best life. They have more money than they could have ever imagined, they are doing what they love on a daily basis and most importantly, they are able to work together as a team. Plus, they are all so dedicated to their businesses and truly care about their employees, which is probably why SEVENTEEN World has gained so much attention from the public, even to the point where they can’t even walk out the door without being recognized unless they wear a disguise. It’s not like any of the men mind, since being part of the celebrity world does have its perks, but a life in the spotlight also means that finding love is ten times more challenging than for the average person.

The members were all over the dorm. Most of them were still sitting at the dining table while others had taken a seat on the couch or on the floor, enjoying the time after their meal and waiting for the clock to finally strike midnight. They had had their fair share of alcohol already, but not enough to call them drunk just yet.
Minnie had just gotten done putting down the dishes she had offered to bring into the kitchen when Wonwoo came in, carrying a few extra bowls that weren't needed anymore. He was clinging onto a few plastic ones that once held rice with his mouth, making the girl chuckle as she eyed him once he stepped in. She reached out to free his lips, taking them into her own hands before throwing them into the trash underneath the sink.
"It wouldn't hurt to just go twice, you know?" She smiled.
He shrugged, "It's quicker that way."
A comfortable silence fell over the room as Minnie emptied the plates of their last bits of food before putting them into the dishwasher. The '96 Liner was leaning on the counter next to her, his arms crossed, watching her every move. She felt his following eyes on her, making her stop in her tracks and turn towards him,
"What?"
An awkward chuckle tumbled from the girl's lips while she continued her chore, "Yeah... I'm not nervous," she gulped, "Why should I be?"
The sudden soft touch on her elbow made her turn her head,
The sudden soft touch on her elbow made her turn her head,
"Hm?" Her high-pitched voice made Wonwoo laugh, he just couldn't hold it back anymore. "What?" The slight annoyance in her voice was as clear as day.
"Just admit it," he assured her, pulling her slightly closer once she didn't have anything in her hands anymore.
She tried to shrug his grip off of her, but he was obviously stronger than her, "I don't know what the hell you're talking about," trying to get back to the task in front of her, but the rapper wasn't letting go.
"Minnie-"
"How can you be so chill about this?!" She finally snapped, making a smug smile appeared on the older one's lips. "Of course, I'm nervous." He motioned for her to speak more quietly, reminding her of the other people in the dorm. "I'm so fucking anxious right now. But how can you not be?! Do you know how infuriating that is?!"
"That I'm not freaking out like you are?"
"Yeesss," she whined, letting her head drop to his shoulder, feeling it vibrate as Wonwoo chuckled, his hands coming up to brush over her back, trying to comfort her. "How are you so calm about this?"
Right from the beginning of their relationship, Minnie and Wonwoo talked about how they would break the news to the rest of the guys. They knew it might not come as much of a surprise to people like Minghao and Seungcheol, since they had their fair share of talks with them, but the rest of the members couldn't have a clue.
Different ideas came up. Just to tell them as if it wasn't something big was the one Minnie could think of. Kissing in the middle of the practice room was something that Wonwoo had in mind. Somehow they both agreed on a surprise for the guys after reminiscing about some events from the past, excited for the reaction they would get once the others would finally find out. Since the female member wanted to take things slow and not let others into the relationship, the rapper knew it would take some time and by the end of November the two settled that they think it would be a good time for the surprise, but Wonwoo had an even better idea and told her about the New Year's kisses he had seen in the movies Minnie loved oh so much. It seemed like a good idea for a surprise. Up until the day of the actual surprise. Because suddenly, the girl's nerves got the best of her.
"Why shouldn't I be calm?" He wondered, still caressing her back when she raised her head to meet his eyes again, "It's not like we're letting the world know. It's just the guys."
She sighed, "I know, but still..." her gaze fell to the floor as Wonwoo's hands found hers, holding onto them, making her eyes focus on them.
"If you're not sure about this, then we don't have to do it. You know that, right?"
"I know!" She quickly stopped him before he could say anything, giving his hands a quick squeeze and looking up again, "I know... I just... I don't know..." Her eyes travelled down again, gazing at their intertwined fingers while playing with his. "I am sure about it," she spoke quietly all of a sudden as if she was scared anyone else could hear her, "I'm just... a little scared, I think."
Not trying to pressure her and put her into an uncomfortable situation, he left her in her own little world and continued in a tone similar to hers, "What are you scared about?"
Minnie took a deep breath, her fingers stopping to play with his. She sighed, "Their reaction, I guess?" Then raised her head again, "Or maybe not their reaction but where this puts us. Letting them in on this is one step further into this commitment. And what if they're not happy about it. What if they're against it. What if they start throwing reasons at us why this is a bad idea and we should stop. Or what if they don't-"
Her rant was interrupted by the rapper's hands grabbing her face to make her look him straight into his eyes.
"Are you listening to yourself right now?" He questioned her, a soft smile playing on his lips, "So many what ifs are coming out of your mouth. You're overthinking this. I understand why and once again, I want to remind you that we don't have to-"
"No!" She stopped him by placing her hands on top of his that were still cupping her cheeks, "No. I want to. I want this and I want them to know."
And within the blink of an eye, Wonwoo held a proud smile on his lips that, within the next moment, was covered by Minnie's lips. He pulled her in, placing his lips onto hers softly, devouring her taste just like he had been doing for all these months.
As soon as the couple pulled apart again, a shy grin made itself seen on the female's lips. She bit her bottom one, hoping to hide it as well as possible, but the '96 Liner had already gotten a glimpse of it, smiling to himself now as well.
His right hand left her cheek to run across the side of her face, pushing back some of her hair, his eyes following his soft touches before interlocking gazes with her again.
"I love you," he let her know, noticing the slight blush that immediately coloured her cheeks, "That's all that matters. And whatever the guys are gonna say won't change that." His assuring words made the girl let out a big amount of air as she nodded. "And you know they won't hate this. They would never be against this."
"I know, I know," she whispered, looking deeply into his eyes, "I love you too." The three words they had gotten so accustomed to within the last week ever since Wonwoo let them fall from his lips first, suddenly didn't feel so foreign anymore. She didn't feel pressured to say them - she never did. But suddenly it felt more natural than before. Like it was meant to be.
"Where the hell are Minnie and Wonwoo?"
Their little moment in the kitchen was interrupted by the loud voice of the performance unit leader echoing through the dorm. They pulled apart at the right moment, just before the head of mentioned member popped around the entrance of the kitchen.
"There you are!" He sounded relieved, "You coming? We only have a few minutes left." The girl turned around and nodded towards him, making him grin widely and before they could say anything more, he was gone just as quickly as when he showed up.
"Come on," Wonwoo slung his arm around her shoulder to guide her out of the room and into the living room where the members had gathered in front of the TV and around the dining table, ready to grab a glass of champagne, beer or apple juice each that Minnie had prepared at the beginning of the evening. The girl caught the knowing eyes of Minghao from the other side of the room, who sent her a surprised look when he saw the close proximity in which they entered the room, but she only gifted him a quick smile in return making him chuckle and mouth a little 'cute' before putting his focus somewhere else.
"Alright, guys," Seungkwan announced, "Only three minutes left!"
Minnie reached to get one glass of champagne for herself and one glass of beer to hand it over to Wonwoo, who accepted it thankfully, letting his hands rest by his side, knowing that only in a few minutes he wouldn't have to hide his adoration for the woman next to him anymore.
"Then let's go on the balcony, what are you guys waiting for!" The female ushered them out quickly making the ones around the TV jump up to their feet, and rush over to the table before collectively gathering on the balcony - thank god it was big enough.
Excitedly, the entire group stood hurtled together close to the railing, with Seungkwan on his phone, ready to count down once there were only a few seconds of the year left.
Looking out into the night sky, the skyline of Seoul, Minnie's eyes were fixed on the few fireworks that were already up in the air while muffled noises from the streets filled the cold December air. Even though it was loud, she was able to ignore every sound that hit her drum. She looked up, losing focus and forgetting the here and now, falling into a trance as she reminisced about the past year.
A lot of ups, and sadly a lot of downs. The year started well with their world tour that was quickly ruined thanks to the virus, making it unable for her to visit her family and finally perform in front of her grandparents who had never seen her on a live stage before. They were forced to lock themselves into their homes, not meet any friends, cover their faces even more than they already had to, and still keep up a positive attitude for their fans.
But so many good things happened. They prepared two new albums that went off great. Two albums that were probably Minnie's favourite so far. They were able to have another Caratland, even though it had to be moved to be an online event - but at least they were able to hold it in some kind of way. But something even better happened. The best happy 'accident' of that year. A relationship. A good, no scratch that, wonderful, amazing, breathtaking relationship. With another member. If you had told Minnie three years before that one day she'd be romantically holding hands, even kissing one of the members romantically and cuddling with them in the comfort of their childhood home one day, she would have laughed into your face. And now she was doing that exact thing.
Wonwoo was the best thing that could've happened to her. Even after just three months, she was sure of that. He had always been there for her. Thinking back to their pre-debut days, he was one of the very few ones she was comfortable enough to sit next to in complete silence. And that didn't change. After her heartbreak a year before, he was the only one she had let stay in the room for longer than just a few minutes. He managed to get her to do even just small things while being curled up in her bed. But there were so many other small gestures that he had done over the years, things that she had been too oblivious to notice, but now that they were together and he continued doing them, she finally realised it - and maybe because Wonwoo explained to her that he did most of them in the hopes of her noticing...
He made her happy. Very happy even. These are the words that she would tell her mum whenever she called. I can't explain it, but he makes me happy.
But it was so much more than that. She loved that man. She loved him. She truly did. He made her forget all the bad from the past. He motivated her to be the best version of herself that she possibly could be. She missed that feeling. But Minnie doesn't see Wonwoo as a replacement for that. Because he's oh so much more. It would take more time to find out just what exactly he meant to her, she knew that, but she couldn't wait to find every little piece of that puzzle to complete it.
"10 seconds left, guys!" Dokyeom shouted out loud after taking a quick glance at Seungkwan's phone, earning him a slap on the chest since the younger one was about to announce it.
The female member snapped out of her daydream and straightened her back. The gentle touch of a hand against her own made her jump slightly and look to her left, where she found her boyfriend already looking at her with a big grin on his lips. She couldn't help but to copy his facial expression proudly.
"Ready?" He raised an eyebrow, leaning in just a bit closer. Minnie's smile widened as she nodded and whispered, "Yeah."
"5!" The guys started counting down together loudly.
"4!" Wonwoo turned her towards him, so they'd be chest to chest.
"3!" Minnie could feel her heart pumping so hard, she was scared it would come up her throat at some point.
"2!" Thank god they were on the far right of the group, and all eyes were on the lit-up night skyline.
"One." The couple whispered to each other, the smirks still as prominent on their lips.
And in one quick motion, Wonwoo pulled the girl closer with a grasp on her waist, making her place her free hand on his chest. Their lips met each other welcoming the new year while the cheers of the other guys filled their ears. Before they knew it, the cheers suddenly became louder and turned into high-pitched screams.
"OH MY GOD!"
"WHAT?!"
"GUYS?!"
"WHAT THE FUCK?!"
Minnie felt a push on her shoulders and as soon as he freed her lips from Wonwoo's and opened her eyes, she found a Dino with his mouth open wide looking straight at the couple. Behind him, the rest of the guys, with the exact same facial expression when they suddenly erupted in another round of cheers as they cornered the two with quick steps, trying to get into a bad kind of group hug that kinda worked. The guys started jumping excitedly, spilling the rest of their drinks onto the floor, but at that moment they couldn't care less.
As soon as they were free again, the voice of every member rang through their ears, all messily speaking over each other. As they slowly died down, one voice spoke up loudly again,
"When the hell did that happen?!" Mingyu gawked at the two, still unable to process what really happened.
Minnie smiled shyly, her hand finding Wonwoo's and she tried to hide her smile behind his arm, but before either one of them could say something, Jeonghan bet them to it.
"No, no, no," he stepped, "Wait. Is it real, though?" He wondered, making Hoshi appear next to him,
"Yeah, this is a prank, right? You didn't actually kiss."
"Huh?" The couple questioned them at the same time, "Why would this be a prank?" Minnie continued their thought.
"It was fake, right? Like when they fake kiss sometimes with their thumbs between their lips," the performance unit leader explained a little too well, earning himself questioning looks from the couple.
"No," Wonwoo chuckled, "We're together."
"But like actually together?" Jeonghan teased, "Like together together?"
"Jesus," the female dancer cursed under her breath, shaking her head as she chuckled, while the '96 Liner nodded proudly with a smile,
"Yeah. Together together."
"For how long?!" Jun suddenly shouted, catching everyone off guard with the volume of his voice.
Minnie grinned, "Since September."
"Sep-?!" He wanted to finish his exclaim but was too shocked and just took a few steps back, disappearing behind the group that was still gawking at them while his voice could still be heard, "Freaking September."
"Why didn't you tell me?!" Mingyu slapped Wonwoo's shoulder, tapping Minnie's as well, just slightly more gentle.
"We just did," the rapper shrugged.
"But why not tell me earlier?! We're roommates, you idiot!"
"You're roommates with him," Woozi suddenly stepped out, "I share my entire fucking studio with that girl and I didn't hear of this even once," letting his eyes travel to the female member, stopping to glare at her, "You've got a lot of explaining to do, I hope you know that." To which the girl sheepishly lowered her head and nodded.
"Okay, BUT," Seungkwan clapped his hands and stepped between the group and the couple, creating a protective barrier, "How about we congratulate them first. Aaand be happy for them. Huh?"
"ON IT!" Dokyeom raised his hand proudly before running over to the couple, almost knocking them over as he wrapped his arms around them tightly, hugging them closely, letting Dino and Seungkwan join as well.
"Quick question," Mingyu interrupted once again, "Can I just ask why some seem unfazed by this. Like a little too unfazed. Coups?" But the leader just looked at him with his arms crossed in front of his chest, not letting any emotion be able to get read off his face, "Myungho? Shua?"
"We already knew," Minghao answered, smiling to himself when he watched his fellow '97 Liner's reaction.
"You-" He stopped himself and took a deep breath before letting out a salty chuckle, "You knew. Of course, you knew. Why did they know?" Directing the question towards the new couple next to him. But he didn't even let them try to answer his question, "You're telling me, you'd rather let Myungho and Shua into this, than me? Or Woozi? Are you serious? I can't believe this." And left the balcony immediately after.
"Mingyu!" Minnie tried to shout after him but he just waved her off.
A comforting hand was placed on her shoulder, "Don't worry," Seungkwan softly spoke to her, brushing over her arm, "He's just sulking."
"Yeah..." Wonwoo sighed with a chuckle before leaving the group and going into the dorm after his best friend.
One after the other, each member went back inside, some sending the girl funny looks, like Hoshi and Jeonghan who let her know that they had their eyes on them, making her laugh or Vernon who wiggled his eyebrows, making her want to throw something at him. Joshua and Minghao showed her some thumbs up and assuring smiles, making her feel at least somewhat good about her decision.
There was one person though that didn't react. One very important person. And it just made her anxiety rush through her body-
"Sooooo," Jun jumped next to her, captivating her in a side hug by throwing his arm over her shoulder and dragging her towards the living room, "How did it happen. When did it happen? Did he make the first move? Did you?! No, it must've been Wonwoo, right? How did he do it? Romantically? Or like cool?"
-
A good 15 minutes, a whole lot of questions and a whole lot of answers later, Jun seemed satisfied enough with the story that Minnie put out in front of him. Other members joined them at some point, wanting to hear a few bits of the story as well, listening attentively while lovingly gazing at their female dancer. With all their eyes and ears on her, Minnie knew that the worries she had had, hadn't been necessary. And while some had left her body throughout the course of the night, a few were still sitting at the bottom of her stomach.
She was once again in her own world, blocking out what the guys around her were doing when she heard someone calling out for her. Looking up, she found Seungcheol at the door to the balcony, nodding for her to follow him. And suddenly that small leftover amount of anxiety didn't feel so small anymore.
She excused herself from the group, got up from the couch and walked over to the door, her eyes travelling over the balcony, stopping at the leader's silhouette that was leaning on the railing. With one careful step after the other, the girl got closer and closer to the leader, coming to a halt right next to him, taking after him and resting her elbows on the railing, the cold January wind blowing through her hair.
The two spent a good thirty seconds in silence before Seungcheol finally filled the silence that was slowly getting too much for Minnie.
"Are you happy?"
His question made her turn her head to her right to look at him. He kept his gaze straight ahead, so her eyes were met with his side profile. She could see the last few city lights glimmering in his eyes, lighting up the dark orbs she had grown to find so much comfort in.
A shy smile made its way to her lips as she turned to look back ahead, unsure of how to face him when answering.
"Very," she told him softly, "Very happy."
He nodded but didn't give a verbal answer, making her only even more nervous than she already was. And then there was it again. Another silence they fell into. Minnie couldn't bare it any second longer and just let it out.
"I'm sorry." Her sudden confession made S.Coups turn to her in confusion. She continued, "I'm sorry that we didn't tell you. And I'm sorry that this happened. I'm sorry it happened like that, we didn't plan it- I mean how could you ever plan something like this, but I'm really really sorry, I swear, Cheol. I didn't mean for this to happen, I-I don't know-"
"Minnie, stop." His voice made her stop her rambling. Within a millisecond she was quiet.
The leader lowered his head and shook it, worrying the girl just a little more.
He sighed, "Stop saying sorry," he turned towards her, "You shouldn't be sorry for falling in love."
The female member looked at her fingers, noticing she didn't have any nail polish left that she could pick at. "I... I thought you might be mad about it... sorry," she only let out a whisper.
Cheol straightened his back and took a step closer to her, turning to rest his back against the railing, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he does so often. "Why would I be mad at your happiness?"
Minnie changed her position to lean onto her side, "Not at my happiness, but... this relationship."
"But that is your happiness, isn't it?" He looked down at her, raising his eyebrows with a soft smile on his lips.
"Yeah, I guess so," she shyly chuckled once she met his eye. There was a question tickling the tip of her tongue that she just couldn't let go, "You didn't seem too surprised earlier. Why?"
"What? You think I don't know you?" He teased her, "You think I wouldn't know my sister after ten years of knowing her? Are you serious?"
"Alright, alright," she giggled, placing her hand on his arm. "Wow," she let out a huff of air, "Ten years already?"
Seungcheol's eyes never left her smile. He analyzed every inch of her face, every wrinkle he noticed, every little detail he could remember.
He nodded proudly, "This year will be our 10th anniversary. You came to Pledis in 2011, shortly after Hoshi."
She hummed in agreement, looking through the floor-length windows into the apartment, chuckling at the antics of the other members who seemed to be very invested in Wonwoo at that moment, when she felt a pair of eyes on her the entire time, making her turn her head. She interlocked gazes with Cheol.
"What?"
He smiled, "It's good to see you so happy again," she blushed, "To see that little twinkle in your eyes again," he teased her, reaching out pretending to poke her eyes, making her laugh out loud and turn her head away,
"Oh, shut it!" She pushed his hand away from her.
He chuckled, "I'm serious. You lost it for a while."
"Well," Minnie spoke softly, "The break up was pretty hard."
"I know... that's why I'm so much happier though that you found Wonwoo. That you finally gave into your feelings."
"What do you mean?" The girl was slightly confused but kept a smile on her lips.
S.Coups scrunched his eyebrows, "Wonwoo didn't tell you?"
"Tell me what?"
"The talk that we had."
"Oooh," Minnie nodded, "Yeah, yeah. Oh god... yeah...that talk. Jesus," she shook her head with a chuckle. As if a lightning bulb went on in her head, her eyes lit up, "That's how you knew! That's why you didn't react! You idiot," she slapped his arm, "'I've known you for ten years'," she mocked his voice, "Fuck that! You knew it because Wonwoo basically told you." She kept on softly punching him, only making him laugh and capture her hands into his own.
"I also just know you very well," he told her, looking straight into her eyes but she just sarcastically nodded,
"Mh, sure."
He dropped her hands as he shook his head and dishevelled her hair a little with a smirk on his lips before placing his arm around her shoulder. Her arms found their way around his torso immediately, capturing him into a tight hug, and burying her head into his shoulder.
"I'm very happy for you," he whispered into her ear, "And I wish you nothing but the best, you know that right?"
Minnie nodded, suddenly feeling her throat tightening and tears prickling in her eyes. Why the fuck now?, she thought to herself
"I really want this to work for you guys. The two of you are insanely important to me," he let go of her, wanting to look her in the eyes again, but she didn't let go, confusing the leader slightly. "Minnie?" Only when he heard her sniff, he knew what was going on.
"Are you crying?" He wondered, trying to get her off him by pushing her away and finally managing to free himself from her grip. "Why are you crying, Minnie?" His eyes soften as soon as they came to sight with her red ones, lifting his hands to grasp her cheeks and wiping away her tears.
"I don't know," she sniffed, "I just thought you might react differently and I know how difficult this might be for the group and the company and how everything could go wrong and we-"
"Hey hey hey," he shushed her, pulling her in again, wrapping one arm around her body and placing one hand on the back of her head while she was clinging onto him like her life depended on it. "It's all gonna be fine. Don't worry about that. The group is, as you can see, extremely happy for you. Don't feel bad about any of this. Okay? No one should be able to take this happiness away from you. And... the company... leave that up to me. I have to worry about that. I'll talk to them."
The girl shook her head and pushed herself off the leader, "You shouldn't have to worry about anything that concerns me. Or Wonwoo and I in that matter."
S.Coups chuckled, brushing his hand covered by the sleeves of his hoodie over her cheeks again to wipe off the tear stains, "I'll always be worried about you. Doesn't matter because of what," he confessed, "And not just as a leader, but as an older brother as well."
"Stoooop," Minnie whined, "You're gonna make me cry even more," but chuckled, making the '95 Liner laugh as well. He pulled her in one last time, maybe hugging her a little too tightly, but it seemed perfect at that exact moment.
"I love you, Minnie," he whispered into her ear, making her smile brightly, her eyes still filled with the last tears she had to let you.
She gave him a tight squeeze back, "I love you too, Cheol," snuggling into his sweater as deeply as she possibly could.
But of course, the moment was too pure and too beautiful to last any longer.
"You know you'll have to introduce Wonwoo as your boyfriend to mum and dad as well." Minnie could hear the devilish smirk playing on the leader's lips.
She sighed, "You're ruining the moment."
But he didn't stop there. "And to Seungmin."
"Seungcheol!" The girl exclaimed, pushing the man away from her body at the mention of the oldest Choi brother.
S.Coups laughed out loud, holding onto his chest, "He'll hate him."
"Stooop!!" As much as she wanted to sound completely annoyed, she couldn't help but smile at the thought, remembering the eventful day it was when Hanbin first met dad Choi and Seungmin. "You talk to him first, please," Minnie tried to pull off her best puppy eyes, getting a hold of the '95 Liner's hands, playing cute. Coups tried to shrug off her grip, laughing at her antics, "Forget it! Wonwoo's your boyfriend, not mine!"
"Seungcheol!"
But he just continued cackling at her misery, knowing what was ahead of her.
-
Some members had already left, tired and ready for bed. Some others were still in the dorm, just like Dokyeom, Vernon and Dino that were dozing on the couch.
The oldest ‘97 Liner decided he had enough and got up to get himself a cup of coffee from the kitchen, leaving the two in the living room as the rest of the members had gathered on the balcony once again. The maknae left shortly after, disappearing to his floor to go to bed, saying goodnight to the only member left in the living room.
From outside, Minnie stepped in, having had enough of the larger group and needing to get somewhere quieter.
The second youngest knew this was the perfect opportunity to go after one of his favourite hobbies including Minnie - teasing her in every way possible. And maybe the larger amount of alcohol he had in his body had a slight effect on the situation as well.
He had been eyeing the couple from his position on the sofa which gave him a perfect view of them and the other members around them.
He raked himself up from his slouched position, “Alright,” he got Minnie’s attention as she stopped in her tracks, clearly tired with the only thing on her mind being sleep. “Soooo… how is he?”
“Hm?” She hummed in confusion, coming a bit closer.
“How is he?”
“He? Wonwoo?” She wondered, to which he nodded, “Yeah… great. He’s doing well. Why don’t you ask him that yourself?” Thankfully she was too tired to wonder too much why on Earth he would ask her a question like that in the middle of the night.
Vernon scoffed, “I don’t mean how he’s doing. I meant how is he as a boyfriend.”
“Oooh,” she chuckled, “then say it like that, Jesus,” giving his head a little slap before sitting down on the other length of the couch. “He’s a good boyfriend, obviously. I wouldn’t stay with him if he wasn’t.” The '97 Liner had noticed the younger one's silence throughout the night and was happy to hear him speak now.
The rapper shrugged, “I don’t know, your first one was kinda questionable so you never know.”
“Dude, you know Wonwoo! Don’t pretend like you don’t know him, you idiot!” Minnie laughed, making him chuckle slightly to himself.
“I might know him, I might not.”
The female member looked at him in confusion, “What?”
“You know what I don’t know about him though?” He changed the subject quickly, ignoring her question completely. Vernon sat up straighter and for himself ready by putting both hands up, palms together, looking straight at Minnie. “Listen, just say stop, okay?”
“Huh?” She wondered while he already started pushing his hands apart, creating an empty space between them.
“Just say stop,” he repeated.
“Ver-“
“Seriously?” He suddenly wondered stopping slightly, slowing down the speed at which his hands were going apart from each other, “Seriously?”
“Vernon what-“
“You can’t be serious.” Stopping completely when his hands were a shoulder length apart.
The dirty-minded part in Minnie’s brain should’ve struck immediately but for some reason, she was so confused. Normally, she would get dirty jokes quicker than anyone else, heck even things that weren’t supposed to be dirty, her brain would register as them being violently inappropriate.
Vernon sighed, “Minnie, listen.”
“I’m listening,” she closed her eyes and sighed with a smile, “I’ve been listening the entire time.”
“Good good, but listen. I’m having my Schmidt moment here.” She could tell by then that Vernon most definitely had more to drink than her, explaining the state he was in. “Listen,” he repeated, “Us boys. We know each other well. Very well even. But…,” he took a second before continuing, “we don’t know everything about each other. But as your best friend-“
“You’re not my best friend.”
“As your best friend.” Minnie chuckled. “It is my duty, knowing you’re in good hands and that you’re happy. I promise, I won’t judge, even if he’s just like that,” taking his two forefingers and keeping them two inches apart from each other.
“Vernon, what the hell are you talking about?”
He nodded, “Okay, okay, so he’s not like that? Good. That wouldn’t be that satisfying I can imagine. I mean, I can’t- but, you know I-“
“Oh my God,” Minnie sighed out loud. Her hands came up to grasp her hair and brush it away from her face. She realised what that was all about. His ‘Schmidt moment’, the hands, the ‘guys know everything about each other’, 'satisfying' - that word always struck the dirty-minded nerve in her brain.
“You’re an idiot. You actually are an idiot,” she looked him dead in the eye.
“That’s not very nice… to call your best friend an idiot, you know?” He gazed at her perplexed.
“Vernon, you’re-“
“Anyways!” He interrupted her, getting back into the stand he was in earlier: hands in front of him, palms together, eyes on her. “I’m gonna start over and you’re gonna tell me when to stop. I promise I won’t judge. I’m just looking out for you, you know? We don’t want you to get hurt by the third leg he’s hiding,” he mumbled the last part but the girl still caught it making her hide her face behind her hands and chuckle in embarrassment.
“Vernon!”
“Just say stop,” and so he started again. His hands slowly grew apart from each other, creating a bigger gap between his palms.
“Just say stop,” he repeated every few millimetres, hoping to remind her, but Minnie continued looking at him with her arms crossed, biting her bottom lip in amusement.
“Ver-“
“Are you serious now?!” He stopped his hands, glancing up at her, only finding her somewhat straight facial expression, making him continue.
“I’m not telling you, this is ridiculous.”
“You’re ridiculous!” He continued, “This can’t be!” His hands grew more and more apart, “Stop fucking lying, Minnie.”
A little more. "Okay... that's... that's impressive, I must say."
The female member shook her head with a chuckle.
He stopped after another centimetre, “Alright, this is unhealthy AND impossible. This is impossible, right?” He gazed at her, a concerned look written across his face, “Right?!”
He went a little further but stopped again, “I feel like you’re not taking this as serious as me. OR, your boyfriend is a fucking horse.”
Minnie grinned, getting ready to get up again, “Guess you’ll have to find out.”
He looked at her perplexed and maybe even slightly scared, “W-What? What does that mean?”
"Minnie!" The familiar voice of her boyfriend caught her attention, making her turn towards the door through which he was just coming in.
"Minnie, what does that mean?" Vernon repeated making her chuckle.
She stood up, and let herself fall into his arms that were waiting for her. Arms that were usually warm and welcoming, but were now cold since he was outside for so long.
"Jesus Christ, you're freezing," she commented, flinching away slightly.
Wonwoo chuckled, "I know, sorry," pulling her back in to warm himself up a bit quicker.
"So," Vernon didn't let go, "Minnie?" Raising his hands again, this time showing an already prepared distance between his palms.
She let go of her boyfriend for a quick second, only to reach over to grab a pillow from the sofa and throw it across to hit him - thankfully she has somewhat good aim.
The '96 Liner stared at the two perplexed, his arms still in the same position, waiting for the girl to come back. "What was that?"
"Nothing," she shrugged it off, "Ignore him," already on her way to pull him away.
"Hyung!" The maknae called out, making her curse under her breath.
"Vernon, I swear to God-"
He ignored her and just started moving his hands, wiggling his eyebrows along the way, "Say stop."
"Stop?" Wonwoo answered him right away, making his hand movements stop. He looked down, then up at the rapper, then down again, then up again. Then he shook his head, "Nah, I don't believe you."
"Vernon," Minnie spoke again, making her voice slightly stricter, not even grazing a nerve with the '98 Liner.
"Ask him," he told her.
"No!"
"Ask him?" Wonwoo wondered, "Ask me?"
"No"
"Yes," Minnie and Vernon answered at the same time, making their eyes meet where the youngest of the room looked at her in amusement while she sent him an unamused facial expression.
"Come on, explain it to him."
"What's going on here?" The '96 Liner continued asking, for a good reason, as anyone else would be just as lost as him.
"Nothing," the girl told him before turning towards Vernon again, "If you want to know, ask him yourself, pervert."
"He'll be more honest with you." Was his excuse. He continued showing different distances between his hands to the couple, only confusing the oldest even more, up to the point where he started copying the younger rapper, making Minnie take his hands into her own, telling him to stop.
"Then what is this all about?" He questioned her again.
"Yeah Minnie, what is this all about?" Vernon continued the teasing, not realising that he seemed to be the weird one in this situation, but he just enjoyed how uncomfortable she got with explaining certain things like that.
She switched between looking at the second youngest and her boyfriend. Her gazes went back and forth, before she started whining slightly, then sighing in defeat.
"He wants to know your dick size," she mumbled.
"Huh?" He asked her, genuinely not having understood the tone in which she spoke.
"Your dick size," she repeated, "He was asking me about that."
Wonwoo nodded, "Aaaah, I see," as if it was the most normal thing in the world. Without saying another word, he took his hands out of her grasp and started doing the same motion Vernon had been doing the entire time. He looked up at his girlfriend, "What would you say?"
"Excuse me?" She glanced at him in shock.
"I'm not sure, you see it quite often, you tell me," he spoke openly, making her gasp at him and hit his shoulder,
"Wonwoo! Shut up!"
"What?" He wondered, "He wants to know." Before chuckling at her reaction, making the younger one laugh as well.
She shook her head, "You guys are unbelievable."
Minnie waited a few seconds before putting up her right hand, placing her thumb and forefinger in a one-inch proximity to each other, "This is pretty accurate." Before turning around to disappear into the kitchen, where Dokyeom had just come out of, but a hand on her arm and the loud laughs of the guys stopped her.
"Hey, hey, don't lie," her boyfriend told her.
"Yeah," Vernon cackled, "Not even I believe that."
"I don't want to talk about this anymore, can we stop now?" She was still in shock at how long this conversation was going on for and the fact that Wonwoo found amusement in it. Minnie shook her head, running her fingers through her hair.
"Okay okay," her boyfriend patted her arm, "Let's stop." Before turning to the '98 Liner, "Vernon?" Making him quiet down his laughter and look at the older rapper. All of a sudden, Wonwoo put his hands up in an actually accurate distance that would represent his length, making the girl gasp, and slap his hands away,
"Wonwoo!" But the guys just laughed together, Vernon even coming closer to high-five him.
"Eyyyy!! That's what I thought," he congratulated him, leaving the girl in shock.
She shook her head, still unsure if what just happened really had just happened, "You guys are unbelievable," before finally disappearing from the scene.
Best friend or not, even boyfriend or not, sometimes Minnie forgot that by the end of the day, they were all just men.
