Synopsis: Thomas and Alex head to Lake Tahoe to celebrate their engagement.

She laced her fingers with his over the shifter, shaking her head at her friends' replies. They didn't see what she saw, but that was okay. They didn't need to.

His black car drifted lazily through the winding mountain roads, allowing them time to enjoy the journey as glistening white crystals fell around them, peppering their path.

Her stomach fluttered as his thumb caressed along her hand. She chewed her lip, biting back her growing smile as her gaze shifted to the diamond ring on her finger.

The last few weeks had been a whirlwind. What had started as a fun vacation with friends between films turned into a near-devastating tragedy that resulted in an impromptu engagement. It may not have been what either she or Thomas would have planned, but neither regretted taking that next step together. Thomas had even proposed a second time to ensure she knew it wasn't a rash decision.

She signed happily, her gaze drifting between him and the snow as they continued forward. Lake Tahoe was their place. It was where they had first escaped to in order to explore their feelings in private. It was where they grew closer and began the first chapter of their forever. So it would be where they officially celebrated their engagement and where Alex hoped they'd return one day to get married.

There was something about the snow that always captivated her. It began when she was a child and had only grown with her. The wonder and excitement of that first perfect snow. The glistening flakes fluttering down until the dark and barren land birthed a winter wonderland where all suddenly seemed possible.

It wasn't something she could explain, but rather, something that had to be experienced to be understood.

He lifted her hand, brushing a kiss across her knuckles. The warmth of his breath lingered on her skin. "A penny for your thoughts?"

"I'm just happy," she admitted contentedly. "The world is full of so much potential and beauty. If you stop and take even just a moment to appreciate the small things around you, you can truly see all the wonder the world has to offer." Her nose scrunched as she smiled wide, lost between the snowflakes guiding their path. She shook her head, trying to pull herself back from her dreamy appreciation of the season. "Anyway... thank you for indulging me. I know the snow isn't for everyone."

"If it's important to you, it's important to me, Alex." He offered her hand a gentle squeeze. "Seeing you happy is all that matters to me."

She tipped her head back against the headrest, her gaze tracing down his features. "I don't know how I got so lucky."

"I'm the lucky one," he admitted. "You see hope everywhere and in everyone, even in me. I can only try to be worthy of that and be the man you deserve."

"You already are. You are the one I love. You're everything I need and could want. I’m so glad we found each other. As long as we have each other, the world will always be filled with hope and wonder as we write each page of our lives together."

His thumb brushed beneath her ring, his lips pulling up. "Together," he agreed as they continued forward hand in hand, their future entirely their own.

Jessica sniffed as she finished trimming her tiny tree. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she gazed at the pitiful little thing.

"You look like you should be Charlie Brown's tree."

Taking a stuttered breath, she tried to calm down before answering her door.

"Ho Ho Ho! Merry Chris-why are you crying?" Seth came in, arms filled with presents, and kicked the door shut.

Jessica shrugged. She swiped up a dish towel to wipe her face.

Seth set the gifts down on her kitchen table. He folded his arms and waited for her to explain.

She ignored the silent prompt and began to search for something to drink.

"You want anything?" She asked.

"Yeah." He replied. "I want to know why you're crying."

"Well I want to know why you're wearing a Santa hat." She quipped back. "I guess life is full of unsolved mysteries."

"Nice try, Iowa. But there can only be one comedian in this apartment building." He spread his arms out with a grin. "And you're looking at him."

Jessica rolled her eyes as she brushed past him to sit on the loveseat.

Seth pulled his hat off with a deep, over exaggerated sigh.

Plopping down next to her, he set his arm around her shoulders.

Tears began to fall freely once again.

"Will my work never cease?" He grumbled playfully. "Hey Jess?"

She looked up at him.

"What do you call a kid who doesn't believe in Santa?"

Her brow furrowed. "I don't know."

"A Rebel Without a Claus."

A heartbeat of silence fell between them before a tearful laugh slipped out.

"Whew. I was worried I had lost my touch there." He gently shook her. "What's going on?"

"I guess I'm homesick." She mumbled, dabbing at her eyes.

She then narrowed them at the sunshine spilling in through the windows. It was so... unnatural.

"I've never had a Christmas without my mom or snow."

"Ah yes." Seth pulled her closer. "Who can forget freezing your extremities off while shoveling snow for five months of the year?"

Jessica laughed, settling her head upon his shoulder. "We always got the biggest tree we could find on old Mr. Winslow's lot. Then we'd pull out the ornaments passed down through our family and tell the same stories we tell every year about them."

"Hard same, but with a menorah." He quipped. "Nothing like polishing great Uncle Morty's for eight crazy nights."

Jessica chuckled. "Then we'd bake goodies for all our friends and neighbors. There'd be caroling."

"Sugar comas while singing in below zero temperatures." He smiled when she laughed again.

"There'd always be a group of us who would go ice skating on Christmas Eve." She continued. "Then we'd hurry home, nearly numb from the cold to sip hot chocolate by the fire."

"Now there's a thought." Seth turned towards her. "How about a date tonight, Iowa?"

"Um," Jessica replied, a little surprised by the abrupt change in topic, "okay."

"Can we go ice skating?" He asked.

She stared at him as if he'd lost his mind. "I don't know if the heat has gotten to you, but it's 70 degrees here, where are we going to find ice?"

His smile grew. "Oh Iowa. You're in the city where the magic never stops." He got up, pulling her to her feet. "Go wash that beautiful face of yours. We are going to do one of your holiday traditions tonight.

"Welcome to Pershing Square's Holiday Ice Rink!" Seth gestured out where people were gliding along to music.

Jessica blinked, trying to take in the sight of an outdoor ice rink in downtown Los Angeles.

"How?" She asked.

"Magic." Seth replied.

"Sure, but seriously. How??? It was almost ninety degrees out today!"

"Oh Jess. We don't do science here." He wrapped his arm around her waist as they walked over to a skate rental booth. "I mean, I'm sure whoever runs this does. But we locals--"

"You are from Ohio." Jessica reminded him.

"I've been here long enough for the sun to burn away all those Midwest winters." He winked at her. "Anyway, we don't ask questions. We put on our skates and rock out to whatever DJ HowLy puts on."

"Walking in a Winter Wonderland is something you rock out too?" Jessica teased.

"We rock out when it's a remix of Darlene Love's version." He knelt down to tie her skates.

Jessica felt her loneliness begin to lessen as she watched him. Her heart ached over how sweet he was in trying to bring a holiday tradition from home to life out here amongst the palm trees.

He took her hand, smiled at her, and tugged her out onto the ice. He then let her go.

"Okay Iowa, let's see what all those years of ice skating taught you."

Jessica's smile made his heart race. He still couldn't believe someone like her was always ready to go out with him. After the unexpected success of her first film, he'd thought she would consider him a part of her past.

Instead, she acted as if nothing big had happened to her. She was still that sweet, gorgeous, incredibly talented girl who'd been completely lost in the big city six months earlier.

He whistled when she began to skate, doing elegant twirls and jumps around him.

"All right. You passed the test." He held his hand out to her. "I believe this is a couple's only skate."

"Oh?" Jessica pretended to think about it. With a huge smile, she took his hand, lacing her fingers with his. "Then we shouldn't break the rules."

He squeezed her hand as they skated, both belting the lyrics to songs as loud as they could, laughing the whole time.

"You know?" Jessica cut her eyes towards him. "I like this couple's only idea."

"You do, huh?"

She nodded.

He stopped them off to the side of the rink.

"Anyone in particular you'd like to be the other half of your couple?"

She lowered her eyes while a pretty blush made her cheeks rosy.

"I had a few ideas." She looked up at him. "But clearly there's only one that will do."

"A few ideas?" Seth felt the wind get knocked out of him. "Wh-wh-who is it?"

He knew she and Matt Rodriguez made their love scenes in Tender Nothing's look like the real deal. Plus he'd seen how close she was to Teja and Victoria. Then seeing Thomas Hunt talking to her after the premiere revealed a lot potential romance there. He didn't stand a chance against any of them. Not only was he not in the same league with them, it wasn't even the same universe!

Jessica skated forward, pinning him between the barrier and her body.

"It's you, you dope." She draped her arms around his neck. "Who else has gone out of their way so many times to make me stop crying and encourage me?"

His smile reappeared. "You are pretty lucky, aren't you?"

He held her close as he sought her lips.

She hummed her agreement in the midst of it.

Her eyebrow raised in expectation once the kiss ended.

Seth took her hand again and pulled her back out on the rink.

"Yes, you are very lucky, Iowa." He continued. "But nowhere near as lucky as me."

Playoffs? Don’t Talk About The Playoffs! Playoffs?!

All my appreciation to @bayleedrawsx for the rapid turnaround on this wonderful piece! I completely adore it!

I know that RCD is a long-dead part of the fandom, but something about having both my Vikings and the Bengals in the playoffs this year left me wanting to “check in” on Seth and Jessica, so to speak.

“That’s a hold! How’d they miss that?”

“Iowa, you’re just looking for excuses. We both know that my team is the one that actually has a chance at the Superbowl.”

“We’ve got more wins! Same record essentially.”

“With a negative point differential. Just wait until-”

“Seth Parker-Levine, you are the most annoying fair weather fan I’ve ever met! You barely even liked football before last season. Now you’re talking about point differentials like you understand anything about this sport.”

“You’re just deflecting.”

“Try sticking with a team through a 3 and 13 season, then you can attempt to trash talk me. Not after deciding you actually do care about your hometown team right after a Superbowl appearance.”

“Nah, I’m good. The Bengals still have enough of that underdog spirit left.”

“But you don’t get to retroactively claim any of that spirit!”

“I thought we’d decided we were both going to cheer for the Vikings and the Bengals unless they both made the Superbowl.”

“You started this whole debate!”

“Only because you take this all way too seriously. It’s my job as your husband to lighten the mood when the Vikings are playing. Otherwise, this season would have given you insane blood pressure issues.”

“No, that was last year. I’m fine when we’re winning the close games.”

“Really? That’s the word you’re using? ‘Fine?’”

“Yes, so save any lightening the mood for the losses.”

“I’m honored to hear my efforts are that successful.”

“Well, they serve as a good distraction from the inevitable agony at the very least.”

“I’ll take it, Iowa. I’ll take it.”

The Fancy Food Sucked

Summary: The Hollywood life is just not cutting it for Gemma. And Seth can fix that.

Seth was going to lose his mind. Actually, it was probably already lost and the last twenty minutes guaranteed he was never going to find it again.

He crumbled up yet another paper and tossed it across the room into the trash can. Two hours had passed since he first sat down and he didn’t have a single joke for his set next week. He got up from his seat at the table, grumbling to himself, and walked towards his kitchen window. He needed some air.

As he flipped the locks open on the top of the window, his eyes focused on a sleek black car idling on the street. And his eyes got bigger as he watched Gemma and Matt freaking Rodriguez step out of the car.

He didn’t want to and he knew he shouldn’t watch them, but he couldn’t make himself walk away from the window. The unfamiliar feeling in his stomach was overwhelming and finally made him turn away. He grabbed his jacket and headed upstairs to the roof.

The cool night air hit his face as soon as the door opened. He was glad that the sun had gone down already and the heat of the day had dissipated. It allowed him to take a few breaths as his brain began to run overtime.

Sure, he thought that he and Gemma had really hit it off the day she moved in. But then Hollywood and Matt Rodriguez came along. And how could he compete with that? And did he even want to try?

He didn’t even get a chance to ponder these thoughts when he heard the door to the roof open.

“Room for one more?” he heard Gemma ask as she approached.

Wordlessly, he scooted over and patted the cold ground next to him. She sat close- the fabric of her dress brushing the sleeve of his jacket.

“Sooo...” she said. “How was your day?”

He let out a small laugh and responded, “It was not my best.”

He face scrunched in concern. And he hated that he found that cute.

“What happened?”

“Comedian blues,” he answered, waving a hand in the air to convey it wasn’t a big deal. “How was your day, though? Any fun Hollywood stories?”

It was her turn to laugh. “Well, Matt and I went to dinner at this crazy fancy place and you would never guess but food that costs more actually tastes awful! We....”

She continued talking but Seth was clinging to one part of her story- Matt and I. Matt and I. He didn’t listen to what she said past that so he was surprised when he heard, “...Seth?”

He looked at her, eyes searching her face for some context clues on what she was talking about so he could fake a response. What he saw, however, was that she was looking for something in his face as well- the corners of her eyes creased in worry.

“You didn’t hear what I said, did you?”

He grimaced before responding, “I’m sorry.”

“Are you sure you’re feeling okay today?”

“I’m fine! I’ve just got like a thousand things running through my brain right now.”

That was a lie, of course. The only thing currently on his mind was the girl sitting in front of him.

“Okay..” she shrugged. “What I was saying is that the fancy food sucked and I’m still hungry. Want to go grab some burgers? My treat!”

He laughed. “Now see Iowa, this is your first lesson in the Hollywood life- nothing beats In-N-Out.”

She playfully pushed him, giggle ringing in the open air. “So are you coming or not?”

He stood up and held his hand out to her, helping her stand up off the ground. “How could I pass up a chance to spend time with you?”

They took the limo Seth had been using to drive people more famous than he could ever hope to be. Gemma sat in the back, lounging on the long seats as she listened to how Seth had tried and failed to write jokes today.

“You think too much,” she said with such finality that he almost didn’t question it.

But instead he let out a “...Huh?”

“You’re in your head! Seth, you’re like the funniest person I know. But for some reason you don’t believe that.”

He was lucky that he was turned towards the road because the blush that came over his face was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to him. He cleared his throat and said, “I wish I could have an audience filled with people like you.”

“You’ll have one of me, at least. You know I’ll be there.”

“Really...?”

“Of course! I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”

His blush only deepened. “Thanks, Iowa.”

After eating and driving back to their apartment building, Seth parked the limo and turned to Gemma. He gave her a playful smile then climbed through the divider, falling to the floor of the limo with a thud.

“You could have just used the door!”

“Don’t rob me of my Mission Impossible moment, Gem,” he said, brushing his shirt off and sitting next to her.

Gemma stretched her arms above her head and laid down on the bench seat, her head resting on his lap. Instinctively, his fingers found her hair as he began combing through it lightly. The gentle sigh that fell from her lips was all the encouragement he needed. She smiled up at him and the moment was too tender, too intimate that he was looking for a distraction.

He reached out and flipped the switch to open the sun roof- the night sky appearing above them. She turned her attention from him to the stars. They sat in comfortable silence, his fingers still absentmindedly weaving through her hair.

“Seth,” she said quietly, sweetly.

“Hmm?”

She sat up to look him in the eyes. “This was the best part of my day.”

He snorted, obviously sure that she was joking.

“I’m serious!” she insisted, lacing her fingers in his. “This is the most comfortable, relaxed, and happy I’ve been since I woke up.”

“Well I’m.... I’m glad I was a part of it.”

She giggled. “I’m just going to have to say it outright, huh?”

“Say what?”

“You’re the reason I’m so happy.”’

His mouth opened and closed a few times as his brain tried to process what she was saying. She watched him with an amused smile on her face before slowly leaning in and kissing him lightly on the cheek. Then again on his nose. And finally... their lips connected.

Gemma’s arms went around his shoulders and looped together behind his head. His large palms laid flat on her back, holding her close to him. The gentle touches, the raw emotion between them was new and exciting but also a lot to handle for him. Seth pulled away for a second, searching her face for any indication of regret. All he saw was contentment, calmness, and adoration.

“All good?”

“Yeah, uh... yes,” he stammered. “I just can’t believe this is my life right now.”

“I’m making out with a hot comedian in the backseat of a limo. I can’t believe this is my life either.”

“A hot comedian?”

She playfully rolled her eyes and pulled him towards her again. He let out a surprised sound and she laughed breathlessly against his lips. If this were his last day on Earth, he could definitely die happy.

Day Three: Daducation - RCD Drabble (Seth Levine x f!mc/Kashish)

a/n: Day three of @rcd-appreciation is family and @choicesnovemberchallenge is soulmate (the fic doesn’t really deal with soulmates but I was inspired by the prompt to write this fic. Can’t imagine these two not being soulmates.) I decided that in celebration of RCDAW and having reached a follower milestone at the time we were in the planning stages that I would gift an artwork and a fic for each LI. In my tags I asked for a Seth stan and @drakewalker04 answered my call.

They asked for something fluffy with Seth and their MC, Kashish. “Maybe with Seth as a caring father” was their exact request. So I present you with the talents of @toyhenoctus first! And then a fic by your’s truly.

"I’m needed on set today,” she scowled while staring at the text on her phone hoping it would just disappear.

As if reading her thoughts he chuckled, “Staring at it won’t make it go away, Iowa.”

She playfully narrowed her eyes at him where he lay propped on one elbow on the floor beside their child, dangling a toy just outside the chubby little one’s reach. He relented and gave the child the toy calming the squawking and standing to walk over to his wife who was grabbing her purse and jacket.

She brushed passed him and knelt on the floor peppering the child with soft kisses.

“Mommy loves you and I’ll be back soon. Take care of daddy,” she stood and planted a quick kiss to his cheek. “Food is in the fridge. Diapers and wipes in the bedroom. Their favorite toy is....,”

“Go,” he laughed. “I got this,” he leaned in for a kiss and but she was already out the door. Seth laughed and turned back to their baby. “Not sure what I think of you getting all the love little one. Guess we need to come up with a plan for when she comes back. I may not be as cute as you but I am cute and I deserve some affection too.”

The baby cooed and smiled at their father standing above them.

“Exactly. What trouble can we get into in the meantime?” He scooped the baby into his arms and blew a raspberry where their neck met their chin and earned the giggles he was after. “Let’s see what mommy has in the fridge for you today.”

He pulled open the fridge and listed off the various purees she had prepped yesterday.

“Carrots? No. Peas? Yeah, you’re right. Only mommy likes those gross little green balls of goo. Ah, the gourmet jackpot for you here. Bananas, pears, and ew, god, spinach.” He closed the fridge and walked over to the cabinets.

“How about chocolate bars and, hmmm, peanut butter for me and ah-ha teething cookies for you. You know buddy, those are the furthest thing from cookies as you can get. When you are older I’ll introduce you to Snickerdoodles. Fun to say. Delicious to eat.”

Having gathered their lunch he walked back into the living room and spread their feast out picnic style.

“Now where were we. Ah yes. It is time to introduce you to “His Girl Friday.” This isn’t the slap stick comedy that we watched last but a more... You know what buddy, I’ll let you see for yourself.”

He queues up the movie and sat beside his child. As the young child nibbled their cookie, and Seth at his own lunch they watched the movie play. Eventually the little one falling asleep in their father’s arms.

A few hours later they were playing on the floor when he heard the keys in the lock. Scooping up the baby they stood and waited for her to walk into the living room. She came over and smiled at the two waiting for her.

She kissed their child’s head and then planted a soft kiss to her husband’s lips.

When they broke the kiss, Seth smiled and said, “See I told you buddy, with you around your mom will kiss me.”

“What?” she laughed lightly before realization dawned on her and she remembered rushing from the house without giving Seth a goodbye kiss.

“Seth, I’m so sorry. Oh my god. I’m....”

He kissed her again. “After this one is asleep, I’m sure we can find away for you to make it up to me later, Kashish.” And turning back to his child whispered, “And that is how it is done.”

Personal thoughts on Red Carpet Diaries, Book 3, Ch. 17

Note: As the title says, these are just personal opinions on Choices books and chapters. Of course, you may agree or disagree with them, I only use this platform to express my thoughts on what I read every week and what I’d like to see in the next chapters, because none of my friends play Choices so I have no one to comment the books with.

And… that’s a wrap!

I don’t know… I’m trying to find the words to describe the final chapter of this series and the truth is that it left me kind of speechless… and not in a good, positive way. Maybe my expectations on this chapter were too high?

We all knew this chapter was going to be fully focused on the wedding, so there are no surprises on that matter. However, I can’t help feeling like everything was insanely rushed, and that was pretty evident in many aspects of the wedding and the chapter in general. First, the amount of people that was missing was insane. For example, I expected to see Leo from Rules of Engagement and The Royal Romance as Chazz mentioned a few chapters ago that he would be one of the guests, but we didn’t see him. Also, when Roxanna asked me about who was going to receive an invitation, I remember saying Ryan Summers, but he wasn’t there (just as Josh Morello). Instead, we got Chris Winters and Cecile his wife (not complaining about this though, I had a hard time choosing Ryan over Chris). Not even Matt’s dad appeared and I was marrying his son!! Our mom only appeared if we decide that she would walk us down the aisle!! Why didn’t she help us with our dress?? And where was Ella??

We also had these extremely unexpected cameos and relationships that at some point got us all (even the MC) saying “WTF?!?!”. My absolute weirdos were Markus and Sara… like… really? I mean… why? how? Too weird to handle, in my opinion (and I actually thought that Markus was married… maybe he’ll use Sara as his new muse?). I also have mixed emotions on Chad and Gloria. This probably takes the second place on the ranking of the weirdest things I’ve seen in my two years playing this game (again… number 1 has to be Markus and Sara!), but at the same time, I feel this is a match made in heaven… as friends, of course! They may become my besties any day! On the other hand, I have to admit that I was glad to see Fatima doing the hair and makeup (you lied to us! you said you had no experience in other weddings, except your own… unless the RCD wedding occurs after the AME wedding in the Choices universe). And I’m actually wondering if the officiant is Steve from Perfect Match or if they just reused his face, but seeing him there was surprising, to say the least.

Anyway… I want to go back to the “missing” stuff. A lot of people are mad about the cake thing. And so I am. We did pay diamonds for the scene to get the cake, you know? So it wasn’t nice to discover that the cake wasn’t even shown during this chapter. Also, we had plenty of opportunities to get press points throughout the book, but there was no mention to it during the wedding… we didn’t even see the magazine with the exclusive coverage that was promised! It didn’t even impact the success of the movie… and let’s remember that we also got some of those points by buying diamond outfits. So yes… this is a MAJOR disappointment that makes me regret a couple of diamonds that I spent in this book. I also had a personal conflict with the wedding dresses and the hair, I think we needed at least one extra option. But this is very specific to my story. In my very specific case, my MC was a brunette with a long hair throughout the series, so her wedding look changed her face a lot… and that felt weird, especially because the normal hair didn’t seem to match any of the dresses. So in the end, I chose the look that disliked me the least.

The rest of the chapter went so fast that I’m still trying to decode what was that. From a lame wedding night (I don’t know… it wasn’t supposed to look like “another sex scene”, and it did), to a honeymoon that didn’t have any impact on the story (and that we’ll probably forget in a few days), it looks like some things were there just for us to say that they were present.

Things that I liked? I have to think about them a lot, but yes, I found at least three. First… Chazz and Crash are moving in together!!! I’m so glad that this happened!!! I know I originally wanted to see Chazz proposing Crash, but I have to admit that this made me pretty happy. We never got to see much of their relationship in the series, but I’m convinced that they deserve each other. So kudos to that!! Second, I loved to see that the MC and her LI (in my case, Matt) took their time during the wedding night to discuss the future and that they are even planning to make some hiatus on their careers just to have fun… I wish I could do that! I can barely go on vacation one week every two or three years! But I have to point that I’m still waiting for a real closure for Matt’s personal conflict… saying “everything is going great” just doesn’t make the cut for me as a reader. And third, I have to say the extra scene. Getting the posters was absolutely worth it, in my opinion. It was special, as things went even back to the very first book of the series (by the way, the poster scene makes me think that they moved in to the MC’s house)… and there were some funny moments as well… it was like a compilation of bloopers in the movies where the MC and our friends participated. If you didn’t get the extra scene, look for it on YouTube… you’ll find some things that will make you smile (my faves were Chad vs. the protein shakes and the MC sneezing accident).

And this is how Red Carpet Diaries brings down the curtain. Unfortunately, I think that this series that started with a fantastic Book 1 was followed by some very lame Book 2 and ended up with a very mediocre Book 3. And this makes me so sad… and frustrated! There were so many plots that could have been explored or deepened… so many things happen in Hollywood and we didn’t even talk about them! It’s a shame because this series may have easily become a fan favorite (and we might even be talking about a Book 4 now) but I guess the writers (or PB/Nexon) decided to play safe instead of taking risks… and I think that was their biggest mistake. This is kind of a “go big or go home” situation, and they definitely ended up going home.
