"If you've told a child a thousand times, and the child still has not learned, then it is not the child who is the slow learner." - Walter Barbe 1977
When there's an underlying condition that has not been identified and needs are therefore unmet, you can tell a child the same thing a million times and their behavior won't change.
What WILL change their behavior is understanding the root cause and figuring out strategies that will address their underlying unmet needs... then, helping them apply those strategies.
But getting upset because they "aren't listening" is unproductive and will likely lead to increased frustration all around.
Also, as they say... insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

These 3 secret hacks will help YOU with autism shutdowns, fast and effective! Autism shutdowns can be disabling and can leave you feeling exhausted fed up and drained of energy. Autism Shutdowns happen similarly to the reasons of an autism meltdown happening where you have over stimulation or an overload of information that causes this shutdown. It’s difficult to prevent a shutdown from happening because you were aware of the situation that’s going on but there are some things you can do to help lessen the impact to help you recover quickly from the shutdown and this is exactly what I’m talking about here. 1. Alert Someone ASAP Try to alert someone who are with as soon as possible to tell them you are not feeling good and a potential shutdown may occur. 2. Count In Your Head Try counting up from 1 or down from 100 in your head if you start to feel a shutdown coming on. This will help calm your mind and create focus. 3. Squeeze Fist And Breath Deeply A good tip is to squeeze your first tight to release that energy, then breath in for 5 seconds, hold it for 5 seconds then breath out for 5 seconds. Do this 5 times and you will feel so much calmer. If you have anything to ad to this please leave a comment below and also follow @TheAspieWorld for more content on autism. Sensory Integration Therapy
Tumblr media
Children with sensory integration dysfunction frequently experience problems with their sense of touch, smell, hearing, taste and/or sight. Along with this they often face difficulties in movement, coordination, and sensing where one’s body is in a given space. This is a common disorder for individuals with neurological conditions such as an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Individuals may be overly sensitive to certain textures, sounds, smells and tastes, while wearing certain fabrics, tasting certain foods or normal everyday sounds may cause discomfort. All parents are requested to read. Every new parent and parent of a child with autism or ADHD or any other special needs child needs to know about this sensory processing. Good timing too as this year she has released her first book this September on the topic of dyspraxia published with @jkpbooks in the podcast episode description link to buy the book is included. We also chat about a muscle condition dysautotomia which she has been diagnosed with and sensory processing disorder as with possible adhd and autism. #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #dyspraxia #dcd #spd #sensoryprocessingdisorder #dysautonomia #autism #autistic #adhd https://www.instagram.com/p/CmC0YhfMyTS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

etude house's sunprise mild sunscreen spf50+++ 🌥
finding sensory-okay skincare products has been a life-long journey. since i was a wee baby any sort of lotion or cream or balm has been a sort of a nightmare and has taken some getting used to even when not. as well as my autism-related sensory needs i also have very sensitive skin (allergic to everything and also eczema). sunscreen is probably THE hardest skin product to find-they usually always smell like banana or coconut for some reason? and tend to leave a sludgy white cast no matter how hard you rub. here enters my GOD TIER sunscreen, sunprise! it smells like nothing (as it should be)! it absorbs quite easily into the skin, and it does not make you look shiny. there's two different textures too so you can find the best one for you: watery and airy. airy is my fave at the minute but i would recommend either because honestly spf 50+++ and it feels creamy and delicious and light? 10/10
psa: everyone's sensory and accessibility needs are different but i think it's helpful to get recs from neurokin :) i found this recommendation through a youtube video by @yosamdysam and i have never looked back! my autistic flatmate also tried on the other day and was impressed!
ID: light blue background. a light green sunscreen bottle with a white cap is centered. it reads ETUDE sunsprise MILD watery light spf 50++++ PA++++ the design is very calm and relaxing.

Reposted!!! @sensorystoriesbynicole I love this analogy. Our "communication differences" are just that, differences. We speak the same language, just with a different accent. Yet, somehow our accent is considered problematic while the neurotypical version is considered "correct." Make it make sense. Credit: @at_psychologist Tweet transcription: #Autism is like having another native language: I can speak 'neurotypical' (but with an autistic accent) while the neurotypical person isn't even aware of multiple languages. They classify my accent as a disorder, while I'm the only one speaking both languages. #sensorystories #sensorysupport #sensorylife #neurodiversity #neurodiversityacceptance #neurodivergent #neurodiversityawareness #autismawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spdawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismsupport #autismeducation #autism #autismspectrum #positiveparenting #momssupportingmoms #parentingtips #positiveparentingtips #positiveparentingstrategies #specialeducation #specialeducationteacher #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #otforkids https://www.instagram.com/p/CibpXp0ILYe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Here are 5 autism boundaries hacks you can use to stop struggling in social situations. People on the autism spectrum have issues and difficulties with social interaction and conversations. Here are some awesome tips and hacks to help you become better at socialising and 1.Standing Too Close: There is a socially accepted distance to stand apart form another person when talking. Autistc people have issues knowing this distance. It is typically between one to two meters in distance. 2.Knowing When To Talk: In conversations everyone has their turn to talk. It is not accepted to talk over one another or interrupt someone while they are talking. 3.Knowing When To Stop Talking: One big issues for autistic people is knowing when you are talking too long and when people are bored of you talking. Trying to keep a short precise conversation is the best way to keep on top of talking time. 4.Knowing What Not To Say: It is not acceptable to bring up personally embarrassing or emotion / sensory topic about someone or yourself in a social conversation, especially a group situation. 5.Correct Engage And Depart: It is know to enter a conversation with a small greeting and wait for a question to be asked of you first before talking. Then before leaving a conversation, give a reason for your departure without an abrupt leaving. If you have anything to add please leave it in a comment down below. Please follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content. Video: https://youtu.be/ztPp7cKZ_fM?si=v7ifZ2miZzO-Lv0Y https://bit.ly/49LiRqk
