Okay, let's try this without the errors and casual domestic abuse references and classism/racism!
All of the below may be worn "because I like how they look." When I say what they're worn for, I mean the intended practical intention of their design.
This is a compression tee or workout tee. They are usually made out of synthetic materials for moisture-wicking purposes. They are worn for exercise or workouts, to draw sweat away from the skin.
Tumblr media
This is a muscle tank. It is worn for working out (lifting weights, most often) or showing off one's muscles.
Tumblr media
This is a sleeveless tee. Note the different sizes of the armholes. This is pretty much just a fashion statement, two tickets to the gun show, etc. but sometimes worn at the gym.
Tumblr media
This is an A-shirt, ribbed knit tank, or fitted knit tank. In the US it may colloquially be called a "wifebeater," but that's classist, racist, and fucking gross, so knock it off.
Originally intended as an undershirt, may be worn as a primary shirt. Still worn as an undershirt by many men/mascs.
Tumblr media
This is a fitted tee. They come in crew necks (pictured) and v-necks, typically. These also started as undershirts and are often still worn as same, but now are often worn as casual shirts as well. The difference between one intended as a casual shirt and one intended as an undershirt is mostly just fabric weight.
Tumblr media
This is a tee shirt, also known as a heavyweight tee (a reference to fabric weight), loose-fit tee, or unisex tee. Intended as casual wear.
Tumblr media
This is a polo shirt. Usually worn fitted and tucked in as shown, unless being worn with shorts. This is a "dress casual" sort of shirt, the kind of thing a person might wear to a semi-nice dinner out with family during the summer, but it's also part of the work uniforms of a lot of working-class people now, so.
Tumblr media
This is a Henley or y-neck. Usually 3-5 buttons at the neck and made of cotton knit. This started as underwear too - a warm layer for winter - and is still used that way, often layered with camp shirts, chamois shirts or flannels. Also worn alone. These are pretty common chores/work shirts in my experience.
Tumblr media
This is a camp shirt or work shirt. It is made of broadcloth, denim, canvas, or another sturdy material. Worn either as an outer layer unbuttoned over a tee, tank or henley, or if it's a nice shirt in good shape you can button it up and tuck it in and get away with wearing it to a semi-casual thing, like a weekday dinner with friends or an event at church/synagogue which isn't a service, like a potluck or a meeting.
These can often be bought lined or quilted and used as a light jacket. I used these for throwing on real quick when going to bring in wood so the wood wouldn't chew up my forearms.
Tumblr media
Now THIS is a flannel. The difference is this is made out of flannel.
Everything I said above applies to this, except flannel shirts are more "casual" than a nice camp shirt bc the material is softer.
Flannel. Shirts. Don't. Have. To. Be. Plaid. A lot of them are, but I own/owned plenty of solid color flannel shirts. I don't care for these as much for chores bc the soft material means stuff is more likely to poke through, but they're great for layering.
Tumblr media
I'm out of pictures so hang on, adding more.

SMUT AHEAD KIDS BELOW 18 STAY OUT
Gojo x Y/N Morning in the Balcony
TW: sub gojo, exhibitionism kink, mommy kink
This is first time writing a sub smut.
I wrote this post for @15lyis balcony sex and sub gojo
I hope you like it and everyone will like it
Edit: Sorry about the mistakes in the writing I wrote it on my phone and blackout next thing I knew I had this and I posted it without thinking 🥲🥲
Can we take a minute to look at this cute blush man ❤️😩
Tumblr media
———————————————————————
———————————————————————
The sunlight peeked into the room from the small crack in the satin white curtains. It show directly on your eyes making you wince and rub them. The wind gently blew the curtains apart . A familiar silhouette stood in the sunlit balcony. You sat up on the bed holding the duvet covering your chest. Your perfectly styled hair was now a mess. You ran your hands through them to give them some shape. The clothes were scattered around the room like a trail of breadcrumbs making you smile and think about last night. You picked up the large grey T-shirt in front of you and your panties and walked towards that silhouette in the balcony.
Outside Gojo was sipping his morning coffee. You shiver as a gust of cold wind hits your warm body. You sigh at the coolness of the morning and walk towards your lover. He oblivious to the fact you have woken up jerks as you wrapped your hands around his waist.
“Oh my, that surprised me! Good morning sweetheart ❤️” He kissed you on your forehead turning himself to face you.
“Good morning handsome. Did you sleep well last night”
“Haha Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” I had the best sleep yesterday.” He reminisced to yesterday looking in your eyes.
“Are you hungry baby?” He asked you
“Starved” you replied him rubbing your belly . He chuckled at your response and headed towards the kitchen. You stopped him by pulling his arm.
“What is it sweetie?” He questioned
“Can I be direct about this?” You warned him about what you were going to ask him.
“Baby you can tell me anything in this world” he reassured you
“I want to fuck you here”
“Here? Then let’s go to bed”
“No I mean I want to fuck here , in the balcony.”
His eyes widened at that statement and he blushed like crazy
“Baby everyone will see us”
“So, I am okay with that I want them to hear” you assertion surprised him even more.
You pulled his arm harshly and turned him around, pushed him of the chair beside you. He was still in shock and surprise by your dominant nature . Had sex awakened a new side of you that he isn’t aware of? Usually you are quite a cool headed person seeing you crave him turned him on in an instant.
You sat on his lap and removed your t shirt
You were naked in front of him. Your panties was the only fabric that separated your sexes. He is still staring at you, not out of that shock.
Baby? Are you okay? You asked concerned
He stuttered “ Y- Y- y- yes oh fuck baby you really want to do it here, in the day where everyone can see and hear everything?
“Yes didn’t you hear me saying I want you means I want you.” You spoke with utmost dominance
Gojo was tempted to call you mommy at this point.
You rubbed yourself on his semi hard dick, that you could feel through his flimsy synthetic short.
“Ahh fuck you seem to be getting bigger and bigger baby. Do you like me dominating you like this?” you moaned in his ear.
He literally almost came when you moaned in his ear. The whole scene was to hot for him. It would be a surprise if he didn’t faint by now.
You continue to rub him though his shorts kissing his neck, making him hum and moan occasionally. You kept saying such sinful things in his ear of how big he was and how you are going to put him in your pussy slowly just so he can watch you swallow his length. This was torture he couldn’t do anything because if he tried to touch you, you would stop his hands from touching you saying No touching, I am going to touch you but you can’t touch me. He was hard it was painful to hold it now. The friction was not enough even for you. As your slick gather up your panties stopped giving that friction you wanted.
You pulled his cock out of his pants and tugged on it.
“Offff baby baby please baby I really need to be inside you right now…” he was whining and panting for relief
“Do you now?” You teased him back
“Baby please “ he was so desperate to be inside to you at this point.
“Beg to me baby”
“Mommy please make me come already I want to make you happy by making you come too help me too please please mommy” he begged
Hmm let me think first why don’t you eat me out the we will see if I want to reward you or not.
You sat on the wooden table in front of the chair and spread your legs for him.
“Come on baby if you want to come you have to eat me out” you called him over .
He was drooling at the sight of your pussy wet and delicious for him. He got up from the chair and kneeled down so your dripping cunt was right in front of him.
His tongue slid over you, between every fold, lapping up your arousal as if it was the last meal he was ever going to have.
"Oh baby," You cried out as he began to swirl his tongue over your clit, sucking harshing as you jerked your hips up involuntarily. His toy hue went deeper inside you causing you to pull his hair. He sucked on your clit making you jerk up into his mouth causing his tongue to slip deeper. He took your labia in his much and began sucking on it, moving his tongue with precision over every inch of your sensitive flesh. He could never get enough of making you moan out the way that you were.
"Taste so fucking good, mommy." He moaned out causing you to squirm in his grasp, bucking against him.
"Look at you, eating mommy out. You love it down you eating mommy out?” He moaned in response to that
“Yes mom-“ you pushed him into you pussy muffling his words his tongue plunging in and out as you mercilessly pushed his head deeper into your pussy causing him to choke. You struggled to sit up straight as he ate you out good and speeding his head with your thighs.
He sped up his tongue. He then later added a finger in your pussy curling it upwards to hit your g-spot causing you to moan so loud people below might have heard you.
You squirted all over his face as your toes curled on his back.
Looking at him all wet from eating you out made you more horny. Beads of precum were already leaking from his dick. You could see it he was a sight that you wanted to burn in your eyes again and again.
“Ohh damn he looked so delicious right now.” you thought.
You pushed him back in the chair and shoved his hard and throbbing dick inside you.
“Good job baby Mommy will reward you for all your hard work”.
You started riding him hard and faster, clenching around him making him moan loudly that the neighbours could hear.
“Ah ah ah mommy mommy ahhh I’ll come
I am g-go-gonna come so h-ha-hard m-m-mommy ohhh fuckkkk“ he was moaning in between words.
Come baby come in mommy’s pussy I know you want it and you have earned it baby let mommy take care of you “ you said panting as you rode his cock.
You could feel him getting close
“You getting close baby ?
Come on come inside mommy I’ll allow it today just today…”
He choked as he came hard inside you after a couple of more thrusts. His cum leaked out of you as in came down and fell on the chair and his pants. Both you juices were mixed. You kissed him not roughly but passionately. After catching you breaths
“So mommy kink huh??” You chuckled at him asking him
“Stop baby you looked totally hot doing that” he blushed like crazy admitting it.
You guys looked in front and saw your neighbours looking at you both like they just saw a ghost.
“Well I guess one thing is for sure we aren’t doing this here again”
“Yes we aren’t” Gojo agreed looking at the neighbours hoping they won’t complain as you both walked inside shutting the door behind you.

Update 4: oh i fucking ate 💅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Havent been making much progress in the actual sewing bits, ive been figuring out video and audio stuff for the most part. Video editing and stuff is really fun!! New hobby unlocked.
Anyways i decided to put the semi-finished garments on my dress form (which is very much not shaped like me) but its made from cheap styrofoam and poly velvet so the fabric kept getting stuck on it. It looks pretty good!!! Im just waiting on some synthetic whalebone to ship so i can put some in the collar and sash/belt thing (what do u call it???). I pretty much just need to add bones + closures to the belt and ill be almost done. Wait i need to sew the lace on the cuffs too. I have one attatched so far. The skirt is ever so slightly too long so i might make a couple smallish horizontal pintucks around the skirt hem to shorten it. I shouldve done that before hemming but oh well...

As someone who can't wear fabrics that are itchy, (rough) even if it washed in softener. Can you give advice on what to look for? I need more business clothes but it seems all the work pants I find for the office is made of that fabric.
Oh this is a tough one. Unfortunately, you might have to go for a higher price point. A fix that worked for an actress I used to work with was wearing satiny cuddl duds in the winter and tights in the summer under all of her pants but YMMV.
(this next part assumes you're US American but I think the idea is applicable everywhere)
First, I would recommend going a slightly fancy department store like Nordstroms. You don't have to buy anything, just feel some clothing to figure out what fabrics you like and write it down. I would recommend going to a higher end store vs like JC Pennys because manufactures like to lie about fabric content and in my personal experience it's less of an issue if you go to a more expensive store. If you're like me, anything rayon, wool, or polyester is a no-go. Semi synthetic fabrics are hit or miss. I'm personally good with silks, satins, linens, and cottons. (If you're not allergic to wool, apparently merino wool is great)
If you're close to a bigger city, you'll probably be good to shop in store. Smaller towns you'll probably have to do online shoping in order to avoid certain fabrics. I haven't shopped at all these but off the top of my head some good stores to check out might be: Quince, Universal Standard, Good American, Amour Vet, Madewell, and Macy's but be real vigilant about checking the fabric content. Rich People Goodwill can have some great stuff but with the rise of thrifting it can be a slog (and real frustrating depending on your size)
May the odds be in your favor on the hunt for non scratchy clothes <3

I’m gonna be real, framing the issue with pleather as a vegan issue is really weird to me because the majority of people who buy pleather goods aren’t vegan. Vegans make up a very small segment of the population, and it’s still a small segment when you widen that to everyone who’s against leather for one reason or another.
They’re buying pleather because it’s what is available at their price point. They’re buying the $20 pair of shoes, not the vegan-leather-instead-of-real-leather pair of shoes. They’re buying the $40 pleather jacket instead of the $100+ leather jacket.
Go to any budget clothes store and pick up a shoe, flip it over. Most of them will say they’re made with all man made materials. Even with other plastic-based synthetic fabrics… there’s a huge price difference between synthetic and natural. Most people’s clothes are made out of synthetic (plastic) or semi-synthetic blends.
People buy what they can afford.
Sometimes I think y’all live in a much different reality than I do, one where peoples purchases are actually primarily motivated by conscious consumerism instead of like. I’ve got sixty bucks and my youngest kid needs shoes and my oldest kid needs a pair of pants and also we need to grab a gallon of milk and maybe a side for dinner.
It would be very simple to look at the issue and say ‘Wow, these companies are using this as a marketing gimmick to imply their product is a higher quality than it is’ but instead you have people who normally think EVERY issue is solely a class issue until you get to anything with the word ‘vegan’ slapped on it lol

Slipfin Alien advertising semi-synthetic food - now in color!
They're showing off Eraga Juice and a chewy Nib-Seed Ball with a seasoning band around it. This stuff is delicious, but not exactly healthy enough to live off! The juice will stain fabric something awful, so be careful with it! I am working on a self-imposed art challenge to do one doodle a day, and count the streak I'm able to reach! I find that it helps a LOT getting over the fear of a blank canvas, and the need to warmup every day before art! Any sketch goes! -Scritt 2023

In which Ren goes on a textile rant.
Going to get in a fight with whoever does the listings for Jo-Ann Fabrics, because why the HELL is a listing for "natural linen" actually for a fabric that contains 50% RAYON. I had to scroll halfway down the goddamn page to find a 100% linen, despite that being what I searched for in the first place.
(I know it's because linen-weave fabrics get called linen even when they're not 100% flax, but I think that's a ridiculous practice that we should stop fuckin' doing. I am looking for PROPER FUCKING LINEN, not fake shit!! God damn it!!!!!)
Fucking rayon. I hate rayon. Everyone's convinced it's "natural" and it's fucking not (it's actually classified as "semi-synthetic"), and in 2014 it made up 56.9% of fibers found in deep-ocean environments. Improvements have been made since then, but I still fucking hate rayon based solely on the fact that marketing has deceived everyone into thinking it's more environmentally-friendly than it is.
It's like...how everyone thinks, oh, bamboo fabric is made of natural materials, so it must be all good! But then they ignore how much fucking processing you have to do to bamboo, and how much water it takes.
That's not even getting into cotton manufacturing. The rates of water consumption and pesticide use in cotton farming are fucking obscene, and cotton is right up there with rayon in how much of it winds up in the ocean. Cotton doesn't degrade quickly at all, and while I wouldn't call it as destructive as some all-synthetic fabric, I still don't like how much people think "oh, it's natural, so it must not have a big environmental impact."
The marketing around "natural fibers" is so fucking deceptive in general. Just because the fiber is natural doesn't mean the manufacturing is inherently sustainable. I'd hate rayon a lot less if there wasn't so much "ohhh, but it's NATURAL! Please ignore how much chemical processing we have to do to the fibers!"
I'm not inherently opposed to polymers and synthetic materials. It is fully possible to produce sustainable polymers, and polymer science is making incredible breakthroughs every day. I genuinely hope that we can continue to push the field into new sustainable directions.
It really is the marketing of semi-synthetic and heavily-processed fibers as "natural fabrics" that pisses me off. At least things like spandex and nylon aren't trying to convince me that they're natural and oh-so-sustainable when I know goddamn full well that they're not.

Quite pleased that Jam City's adult Penny model looks almost exactly as I'd pictured her in The Mad Witch~
Tumblr media
She does! Yo, Lily, this is the flatmate you've had a crush on.
Hilariously, adult Penny dresses like half the people in my department (and the bio department too; my boss dresses like that). Hell, I would dress like that. She honestly looks like she's about to put a lab coat on at any moment. Like,
Long pants, check. They're jeans too, which helps minimize flammability (synthetic fabrics can melt to your skin).
Closed-toe shoes, check. The tread on those boots is probably great. That's someone who works on their feet all day.
Button up shirt. That's like the typical scientist look of "I'll try to look semi-professional but I still want to be comfortable."
Cardigan. Again mixing comfort with something more stylish. Extra points if it's wool, which is fairly flame-retardant. And it has POCKETS
Her hair's down (or half-down), but in the Witch she doesn't follow typical lab safety rules either, so I'll let it slide
Anyway, I love Penny so much. Still one of my favorite characters.

Chapter 1 Trivia
Tumblr media
Every human on Earth turned to stone...
The deterioration levels vary here: cars and buildings look clean, but there are plants sprouting everywhere including on peoples heads. Fabrics can take anywhere from a month (linen) to several decades (synthetics) to degrade.
I love the plants in the phone ports on the left!
Tumblr media
We get the name of their school, Hiromatsu! The characters used can mean big (広) & tree (末). This means Taiju Oki from Hiromatsu high school can be translated as Big-tree Big-tree from Big-tree high school. I wish he got to graduate...
We also find out both his parents are dead— who's been taking care of him this whole time?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking at the sound effects, Taiju's yelling was loud enough for everyone's eardrums to pop. For this to happen, you need ~165dB. This approximates to a shotgun blast at close range, or a jet engine within ~100ft. The loudest human yell is 129dB, so Taiju's setting new records
Tumblr media
If you were wondering about the original sound effect, it's ビリ (biri), usually used for sudden loud shocks or vibrations, or shuddering after a strong force. In case you had any doubts about Taiju's true power...
Looking at the other students, Senku seems to be the only one wearing a tie, and a patterned one at that. I wonder who could have inspired such a frivolous fashion choice...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This process is pyrolysis, specifically thermal depolarization which is basically turning waste plastics (bottle caps) back into crude oil. Senku's setup looks semi-random.
He's also lighting the gasoline Taiju poured into the sink on fire and throwing it at the other students...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though he needs plastic caps for his experiment, he chooses an energy drink in an aluminum can. I wonder if that helped him stay alert over those 3,700 years, or sped up his depetrification at all...
Tumblr media
The high school is implied to be in/near Tokyo. At this angle, the 109 department store (Shibuya) is to the northwest, so the people on the ground are staring southeast. Therefore the beam originated to the southeast of Japan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inagaki has mentioned a few times now that he originally drafted this as Hillary, before the 2016 election took place. Interestingly, the dialogue didn't change between the two versions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The petrification seems to be total sensory deprivation: you can't see or move, and you can tell that you're immobile. On top of that, you can feel your consciousness slipping. The fact anyone has enough willpower to push through it and not give up over millennia is incredible.
Tumblr media
The birds didn't all get petrified at once unlike the humans. There seems to have been at least an 8 hour delay (enough time for Senku and Taiju to sleep, assuming they hadn't talked yet that morning).
There's also no visible beam of light, which is curious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can assume it wasn't simply a precariously placed bird that conveniently fell as Taiju passed since it was frozen mid-flight, and thus would have shattered on impact had it not landed on a bush/other cushioning surface (that would likely have held it steady).
A few landmarks are shown: lake Okutama dam bursts, flooding Tokyo and destroying several buildings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's the Rainbow Bridge and the Tokyo Skytree, also both in Tokyo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taiju's depetrification started on his head; was it the presence of nitric acid there? Or did it start there for another reason?
Taiju's scars also follow the initial cracks of depetrification; does that mean it's the most shallow/damaged there? Oddly, his eyeball is unscarred.
Tumblr media
Statues embedded in cliff faces could imply at least a little tectonic upheaval, redirected rivers, or could be a result of the populated skyscrapers.
3,700 years isn't long enough for major continental shift (1 inch per year, roughly), but basic topography has changed a bit.
Tumblr media
I wonder what this pose could possibly mean... Nothing to do with being petrified while sitting in the corner of a fighting ring during an MMA battle, I'm sure...
In any case, he's very serene and unlike most other statues, doesn't look scared at all.
Tumblr media
Yuzuriha survived because she was protected by two big trees.
Tumblr media
Camphor trees can live a very long time, as demonstrated by this (supposedly) 2,000 year old camphor tree at the Kinomiya Shrine in Atami, near Tokyo.
Tumblr media
Yuzuriha's headband has also survived petrification. Since there seems to be no plastic on the ground anywhere, it looks like it got petrified along with her (the cracks match up!) Why? Is it made of human bone or something?
The margin of error Senku is working with here is incredible, but at least he won't get bored!
800,000 seconds is about 9 days and 6 hours. I wonder if that cycle has any significance...
Tumblr media
Senku seems pretty handy; he's got a kiln, pottery, woven fabric, several spears, rope, and clothing. Impressive work for someone who lived in the modern era!
Tumblr media
Homo habilis (2.1 million years ago) was the first species to use stone tools, while homo erectus mastered fire by 1.5 million years ago. Anatomically modern homo sapiens didn't come about until ~300,000 years ago. Senku seems to have already jump-started quite far on his own!
Tumblr media
The hallmark of modern civilization: rockets. I'm sure this is only an example and not one of their goals since they're only highschoolers haha...
Speaking of goals, the story is unlikely to end before they restore civilization and solve the petrification mystery. I can't wait.
Tumblr media
To any anime-watchers reading, I very much recommend starting the series from here rather than from where the anime left off. It's an exhilarating journey.

☕️ american girl historicals hehe
trying to format an opinion that i haven't already shared on here. okay I'm going to talk a little bit about Claudie who I think is the most intriguing of the recently released historicals to me.
Tumblr media
First off: I think Claudie's doll is adorable, I love her curls and I think her new face mold looks very sweet and friendly. I know the new dolls with painted-on eyelashes are controversial and I have mixed feelings overall but I think it looks cute on Claudie. I also think her meet outfit is cute, especially the dress, and it's not as Aggressively Modern as some of the Beforever and current meet outfits on the other girls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm also a big fan of Claudie's PJ set (love the bunny slippers) and her jazz dress. I think they're very cute and fun and while I'm not an expert on 1920s fashion or the Harlem Renaissance they don't feel like...glaringly obviously not period like, for instance, all of Sam's Beforever collection. At this point, I am quite pleased with Claudie's outfits.
(Although, one thing I'd like to point out that is sort of a semi-critique. These feel quite flattering and glamorous to me, not quite enough to stretch credulity for a nine-year-old character, and the meet dress is def simpler, and since Claudie is interested in performing it makes sense for her to be drawn towards glitzy stuff, but I would like to see her have maybe like a simpler and more childish set available, like a play dress or something.)
Tumblr media
My final critique is reserved for the Harlem's Fashion Row outfits. Positives: these are very beautiful and I like that AG did a collab with modern African-American high fashion designers. That being said, as a historical doll purist, these are DEFINITELY not what a nine year old girl in 1922 Harlem would have been wearing. Claudie is a fourth grader, not a showgirl, and while these are beautiful I do wish that there were more options for dressed-down or believably everyday choices.
I also wish Claudie had more lower price point accessories, she has the bakery set but it's huge and more than 200 dollars. I wish they started making the lunchboxes that used to go with the girls' school sets again, I love miniature food but again the bakery set is so wildly expensive.
I also would have to examine the clothing more closely in person to determine construction quality, which I feel like has been more of an issue in more recent AG collections, and I'm not a huge fan of switching to largely synthetic fabrics, so I think I'd like to take a look at these sets in person. However, aside from my previously mentioned complaint that Claudie's collection is very glam and not as historical/everyday, I overall really like her/her collection. If I was to purchase one of the historical dolls they currently produce, it would probably be her (though I also quite like Rebecca).
I also think they undermarketed Claudie--they didn't even release an AG catalogue with her on the cover, which I think is pretty standard for new released historicals, and I worry about her getting overshadowed by the 90s twin dolls. I hope they keep marketing her and release some more accessories and more everyday clothing!

So most things are technically biodegradable at some point, except for some stuff like polyester (PET, most commonly used) which can take up to hundreds of years to degrade. which can technically be considered biodegradable but compared to chromium tanned leather (most common process), it isnt.
polyester is nearly half of all material used for clothes in general, and most when looking at synthetic materials for clothing (which also includes rayon which is semi-synthetic, and polyurethane which is synthetic).
there are different types of polyester but generally, polyethylene terephthalate is most common which is one of the most common microplastics also.
polyurathane on the other hand, which is what most fake leather is made from (usually painted over polyester, rayon, or cotton), is not toxic and biodegrades in 20-30 years. Vinyl is also used and is not biodegradable and can be toxic for the enviroment.
and rayon biodegrades even faster at a few weeks, which is another commonly used fabric.
Now these all have some sort of toxic chemical added to them whether it be polyester, rayon, or polyurethane (which is usually painted on polyester, rayon, or cotton).
so saying something is biodegradable doesnt mean anything in terms of environmental impact or even longivity. All it means is that it eventually breaks down naturally. What it also doesnt mean is that that break down is always free from chemicals bleeding into the enviroment.
Because thats what happens. You have the people who work with the chemicals to make the fabric, and then you have the fabric leaking its chemicals into wherever its left to degrade.
anyway, the most common way of tanning leather is with chrome which poisons people, the water, the land, and air.
the most common clothing material overall is polyester and cotton
for most common material used in faux leather, it would be polyurathane, which is again, painted on polyester, rayon, or cotton.
polyurathane clothing can last 30 to 100s of years depending on how its manufactured, while current chromium tanned leather lasts up to 50 years or longer, and polyester can last hundreds of years, and cotton/ rayon last years.
Leather of which is more expensive than polyurathane. So with this comparison, Leather lasts longer (with proper care) but is more toxic and more expensive, Polyurethane Leather usually has a shorter life span, but is not toxic and is less expensive.
When in comparison to all clothing, Polyester is most common, toxic, and isnt biodegradable.
Just over 1% of people are vegan (original coined Vegan Society definition);
8 million vs nearly 8 billion people.
Most vegans make under 30k and thus are low income and cant afford real leather anyway unless it was at a thrift store.
The average person is working class and probably low income and though i have no data, id say that most people arent buying genuine leather products often, because its too expensive.
So you have chrome tanned leather which is the most common type of leather bought (around 90% of all genuine leather),
and polyurethane used in fabrics which takes up only 18% of the overall uses of polyurethane, the rest is in furniture and foam for thermal insulation.
You have the most common fabric overall is polyester and cotton,
and you have approximately 8 million vegans world wide, compared to the rest of 8 billion people who arent vegan
The conclusion of all of this is:
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism
Those of us that have less money cant afford premium stuff, and when we do we want it to last
But most of the time there is a choice when shopping anywhere that isnt a thrift store.
To know that the leather you buy (unless brain/vegetable/etc tanned) is destructive inherently to the people who process it, who slaughter the animal, and the toxins it releases
and to know that there are alternatives that are less destructive- that dont even have to always be polyurathane either
to know that we all have something in our closet that involves polyester
To know all this now, not only should you take these into consideration when shopping (when youre able ofc) but to stop spreading the misinformation that "vegan" leather is worse that real leather
because vegan leather doesnt describe anything other than it doesnt come from an animal. And genuine leather doesnt even tell you how its tanned
We are not going to be the main ones buying fake leather of any kind. Just by the fact that there are more non vegans than vegans
This post is neutral, but also has an agenda. That agenda is to lay it all out so that people can see that everything has its pros and cons, but ultimately there is going to be a better choice
and the better choice isnt even "vegan" leather as a whole. If youre shopping for "vegan" leather, try and go for the more sustainable kinds of material
this post took me a week to research and write up. Id provide the graphs and sources but this is already so long, so if anyone wants to add to this and add sources please do that.

Murderbot Diaries x LANCER crossover
What If the mech manufacturers from the table top role playing game Lancer made SecUnits from the book series The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells?
Unless otherwise stated, assume each SecUnit adheres to The Company Standard: Integrated ranged energy weapons in the arms, identity concealing body armor, wireless and physical data ports, genetically blended human derived organic components, power system instead of a digestive tract, high speed tactical semi-organic neural networked processor, Cardio-Hydraulics, Governor Module to ensure compliance, decent combat and tactical training but rudimentary education on everything else. Available to rent at a distribution center which it must be returned after completing a client-contract.
General Massive Systems: Anyone can print out a GMS SecUnit using a modified fabricator (for free) but no one can actually control it. It does not have a governor module and is allowed to balance the needs of the client against external factors when making judgements. Upon manufacture, it is assigned a randomly generated name and personality traits. When allowed to express itself, detectable aggression (decibels of vocalizations, facial contortions) from both clients and hostiles has been reduced by 10-20%. After completing it’s first contract, the Unit is allowed to choose between staying with the client, returning to a distribution center, or go wandering.
InterPlanetaryShipping-Northstar:  Reinforced caps on it’s knuckles, knees, and elbows for close quarters combat. Integrated low-grav propulsion systems in it’s arms, legs, and body armor.   IPS-N SecUnits also have an emergency mode allowing it to operate exposed to hard vacuum environments for several hours. Governor module is inactive by default but can be turned on by authorized individuals. Trained to always think of itself as a component of a ship and a member of a crew, and to place the survival of both over it’s own.
Smith-Shimano Corporation: Well trained and educated on various subjects. Upgraded between contracts to ensure a slight superiority over other SecUnits and augmented security contractors that are available on the local market. Body Armor is practical, high quality, with ornate detailing that can’t be easily replicated. You’d expect it to be arrogant or haughty because it’s a top-quality synthetic being but instead it’ll always treat you with respect and patience, perhaps because it pities you. Clients are charged extra for any damage they might inflict on their own rented Unit(s).
HORUS: The only way to get a HORUS SecUnit is to first find a secretive HORUS Cult-Cell and then offer it’s members the right kind of bargain, and if they like you enough, you might borrow their strange model of SecUnit. Integrated weapons/tools are asymmetrically located throughout it’s body, seemingly chosen at random but somehow always useful. Collated surveys from various outside organizations have shown that a fifth of documented HORUS-made SecUnits have paracausal material integrated in their bodies, giving these special ones a near-supernatural ability. The underlying logic for which units receive this upgrade and what that specific ability is, has yet to be confidently determined. Obviously, none have a governor module. It’s body armor and uniform will resemble those worn by local factions with a few details just slightly off.
Harrison Armory: Can operate without a recharge and at higher capacity far longer than any other model mentioned above. It can also overcharge it’s integrated energy weapons so much it can burn through military grade armor plating (for about 12.09 seconds). Doing so will not damage the Units arms but it will require connection to a power source within an hour or suffer involuntary system shutdown. Harrison Armory SecUnits are used throughout the Purview to protect industries and population centers from terrorists. The Armory will also ship SecUnits in bulk to prop up the armed forces of “trusted” subsidiaries beyond the Purview.

Perfumery is weird. I know what clean laundry smells like. But clean laundry doesn't technically smell like much of anything other than maybe hot fabric — but I can't recall what most fabrics that have never touched a scented detergent actually smell like. Usually I'm smelling white musk, a nicely scented class of synthetic fragrances originally meant to immitate natural musk without the "dirtyness" of musk which is kind if like trying to make an artificial lemon scent that doesn't smell citrusy and just ends up smelling vaguely floral and slightly "warm."
Speaking of warm, there's a common base scent in a lot of stuff called "amber," after the color of the mineral. Amber, the mineral, being a mineral, doesn't really smell like anything either. But perfume companies semi-standardized what it smells like. It smells generally warm also, but warmer than white musk. I don't know why anything would smell "warm" though. Cool scents I get because stuff like mints trick your body into thinking it's experiencing cold. Hot scents are reasonable for the same reason. But warm scents have to be 100% cultural associations right?

1930s Qipao - a masterpost
Hey there!
I haven't posted on Tumblr (well, on this sideblog) in a long, long time. I have made plenty of things, just didn't have enough energy to write it all down in coherent sentences.
I think I'm going to make a new series though, since I don't have a blog elsewhere and I need a public space to organise my thoughts, on the making of a qipao in the 1930s style and tradition.
I have made two qipaos before (when I was still a baby to couture dressmaking) but whilst they were wearable, they were very messy with structural issues. Now that I'm a bit more experienced, I'm determined to a) make a proper toile/pattern, b) improve my pressing skills with a steam iron, and c) have nice and round fabric buttons and neat 'button legs'.
I won't have time to smooth out my notes, so I'm just going to reblog and add stuff in the thread or edit the post directly. I'm going to note down the methods I use as well as other methods I've learned about, since there are different ways to make things and each dressmaker develops their own techniques over time.
So for today I just want to share my choice of fabrics and notions.
Main fabric
'Pink sketchy retro garden rayon fabric' purchased at Guthrie & Ghani (a shop located in Birmingham, UK). The selvage reads 'AMSTERDAM by Anbo Textiles designed by Sholto Drumlanrig', so I guess that's the actual textile company and designer.
The website says the rayon is 'similar to viscose', but since rayon technically equals viscose, we don't actually know if the rayon used here is the old-fashioned stuff or a more eco-friendly version like Ecovero.
It feels very smooth with a good drape, a bit heavier than silk.
I got 2.5m which would be enough for a 120cm long qipao. A 1930s qipao has no shoulder seams so you cut the front and back in one piece, hence the length of fabric=2*(length of the garment). I only need 80cm in width for a short-sleeved qipao though. If you have a wide fabric width you can actually make two sleeveless/short-sleeved qipaos, or you can save the other half for something else!
Other fabric choices
The perfect choice would be silk. This is because silk drapes nicely and is very easy to stretch/shrink and be molded into 3D shapes. Of course you need a drapey silk, not too stiff and not too flowy.
Other natural fabrics, including cotton, linen, and wool, are all good. Cotton and linen will be harder to shape though.
Synthetic/semi-synthetic fabrics can be used too, just keep in mind that some are hard to shape, and some do not wash well. You want something that is very breathable, since it fits snugly around the neck, and drapey.
A medium, non-transparent fabric for a single-layered (or lined for colder weather) qipao. A transparent silk can be paired with a slip (which you would wear anyways if you follow the norm of the 30s).
If you plan to wash your finished garment you must choose a fabric that can be washed reasonably without fuss and pre-wash it.
Binding tape
Mine is a pre-made tape from Atelier Brunette. You can make your own with the fabric of your choice. It has to be on true bias (very important)!
I have eight metres in total, not sure how much I will end up using.
Stay tape
Super important. 99% of the resources I've read suggest fusible interfacing. A very thin but sturdy woven tape would work too. Sometimes I use strips of silk organza cut on straight grain (or leftover selvages), which is also what I plan to try for this project.
You need at least 4*(length of garment).
Sewing thread
I always use Fujix 100% cotton sewing thread. Also a thicker (maybe cheaper) thread for thread-marking and basting. If making surface decorations, silk threads would be nice. I don't feel the need to wax the Fujix threads but if using another brand/type I would certainly consider waxing.
Starch glue
Either buy some or make your own. Another soluble stabilizer would probably work too. This is used for the edges, especially at the neckline. If I didn't want to bother with a glue, I would leave the cutting until the last minute, baste with running stitches, and minimize the handling.
Interfacing
This is for button strips and the collar. I use a medium-soft cotton canvas. I know most people use a fusible interfacing, but I don't like it. Organza is not the most suitable, though if I needed a semi-transparent natural fabric for the style then it would be my best bet. You can also starch the fabric to stiffen it, but a starch glue washes out.
Also a lot of sharp pins and a trusted pair of scissors. Some people use spaghetti straps to make buttons, in which case you need a drawstring threader type of thing.

Oh, isn't it so bittersweet That I love to watch you bleed? You've never met someone like me
» --------------------------------------------------- «
It's been eons since he's been in a club like this, and never as a patron. Back then, he'd been part of the entertainment— a white and black frame with a low price marker and the desperation to survive just one more night. He'd never sat in one of the cushy booths like this, full of synthetic fabric and a table laden with engex and high grade.
He can see Turmoil in the corner of his vision, the bigger mech stalking up to his chosen victim for the night. Lighting up one of his personal cygirette blends, he almost feels bad for the other's intended target.
Almost.
He has a distinct disdain for neutrals intent on slumming it for a while, then flashing cred like it makes them something important. The chemical is effervescent and cool on his glossa as he exhales out the vapor- optics lidding as the chemical hits his energon lines. By the end of the night, the bigger 'Con'll have someone in his berth, and another in his servo- with both of them pushed beyond their limits. They'll stagger back to their ships full of stories, sore joints and dented plating, and of course- lusting for 'Con spike.
That's usually the way it goes, anyway.
With the night unfolding in it's usual predictable pattern, the second-in-command is actually surprised when a commotion gets his attention at one of the doorways. The club itself used to be a dockside warehouse, the only thing big enough on these colony planets that can reasonably house most Cybertronians. So, as the doors split open, they reveal a good portion of the outside before slamming shut.
The ruckus is momentary, and the patrons that had stopped go back to their gyrating and semi-public fragging. He, however, goes on alert- especially as dancers are parting here and there like silver-koi in a mithril pond. His lips twist to one side, irritated that someone's starting slag on one of his random night's off. His optics roll as he spots one of the other idiots from the crew seemingly chasing something through the crowd.
The speedster huffs a sigh as he pinches the end of his cygirette and tucks it into his subspace to finish smoking later. He's already stepped down and wading through the crowd before he's done, pushing his way towards the cause of the commotion.
"Fraggitall, Whipdown-" he all but snarls, lips pulling back over sharp canine dentae. "Whaddya think yer doin' no-"
He finds himself drawn up short, mouth slightly parted as he narrows his optics at a familiar pair of blue ones. » --------------------------------------------------- « My heart has teeth My heart has teeth And it's looking for something to eat
