Even though Beast Machines isn't as great as its predecessor Beast Wars, honestly, "The Weak Component" is not only one of the best episodes in either series but also is one of the best episodes in any Transformers series.

I attended Botcon 2023 this past weekend, I met voice actor Scott McNeil; he signed my drawing of Dinobot, Rattrap, & Silverbolt (even I hate how poorly I drew Silverbolt).
Scott McNeil is a really friendly guy, and when I put on my Dinobot mask for the picture, he lost his mind and started laughing.
The next day, I gifted Scott his own covid mask of Dinobot (it wasn't ready the first day I met him), and he seemed appreciative of it.

For a gal who’s terrified of zombies, I’ll freely admit to having a crush on Rath when I was a kid. Still think he’s pretty awesome. Definitely deserved better than that Chantrah chick.

Heck yes! Scott McNeil autographed my copy of the Ocean Dub at botcon. This man was a huge part of my childhood and he seems like a really kewl guy. He will always be Piccolo to me.

I must confess I wasn't that big into the Hordika/Visorak arc of Bionicle (fucked up Toa, funny little Rahkshi guys, more freaking bugs, SPINNERS) but man, that Keetongu guy was something else. Dude barely had a head, just a big freaking eye with a hat, and was this bright golden yellow, and apparently was an intelligent Rahi which was the Bionicle equivalent of that one talking animal that superheroes always seem to run into. Also, when he wasn't kicking Visorak ass he was just vibing in protodermis.

And yeah, I totally had his set. Had I known I would have this massive nostalgia kick for Lego and Bionicle in 2023, I wouldn't have sold all of my Lego bricks at that garage sale eleven years ago. I am kicking myself for that.
Did I mention Scott McNeil voices him in "Web of Shadows?"

Nut job “great white hunter” who names his weapons and acts like they’re real women.
Seem to be a trend, but I gotta say, Bonesteel from Next Mutation was way more fun. I attribute that to Scott McNeil being a wicked cool guy willing to be playful and not afraid to make fun of himself or his roles.❤️

A Chinese Ghost Story (1997)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
Dig deep into your box of OAVs and you might find a copy of A Chinese Ghost Story, which is not the worst anime film I’ve ever seen, but should certainly be considered a contender. Badly integrating traditional 2D animation with CGI that would’ve felt at home in Spawn, it features an incomprehensible story you’ll be eager to see end.
Tax collector Ning (voiced by Michael Donovan) and his dog Solid Gold (Scott McNeil) runs into monks White Cloud (Richard Newman) and Ten Miles (Matt Smith). After explaining that they are exorcists who scour the land for malevolent spirits, they fly off to battle their rival, Red Beard (James Wong). Wandering into a ghost town, Ning sees the beautiful spirit Shine (Sylvia Chang) and falls in love, but even if she reciprocates his feelings, how can a ghost and a man be together?
Even without the abundant and unappealing 3D imagery crammed into nearly every scene, this is not a particularly good-looking movie. The characters range from realistic to so exaggerated they barely look human, which doesn’t help make the plot more digestible. It’s possible the English dub has mangled the story beyond repair but I can’t imagine Solid Gold was ever funny, and Ning spends so little time talking to Shine it’s impossible to buy that he’d be willing to give up his entire life just to be with her.
This plot has major pacing issues. It takes an eternity for Ning to realize things the audience will catch immediately, like the fact that he’s walked into a ghost town full of flesh-eating spirits and should probably leave immediately. At other points, we’re introduced to concepts and characters so quickly, you’ll hardly know who they are even at the end of the film. The exorcists and ghosts pull new abilities out of nowhere when the plot demands them to, and all the while every attempt at comedy falls so flat you’ll wonder if you haven’t died and gone to a Hell that’s been specially tailored just for you.
I don’t know what it was about A Chinese Ghost Story. Minutes in, I realized this was no good. I’ve seen much worse over the years – from the rape-happy Wicked City and Ninja Scroll, to the hilariously awful Battle Arena Toshinden – but something about this one drove me up the wall. I wished something - ANYTHING - would cut off the video and save me from the displeasure I was experiencing.
I should’ve known what I was getting into just looking at the DVD. It’s clearly Frankensteined together from a bunch of unrelated shots and no attempt has ben made to match the colors or hues. It’s actually a perfect representation of the film: a disjointed, ugly mess that wouldn’t be acceptable regardless of the language it’s presented in, or the place it originated from. (English Dub on VHS, February 7, 2018)

Casper's Haunted Christmas (2000)
In today's review, I literally find out the true spirit of X-mas. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2000 Direct-to-Video holiday film Casper's Haunted Christmas #BrendonRyanBarrett #TeganMoss #ScottMcNeil #TerryKlassen #SamVincent #GraemeKingston
When Halloween ends it is usually only 55 days until Christmas, that may not seem like a lot of time, especially as adverts that signal the holidays are played earlier and earlier each year. While the two may not appear to have much of a thematic overlap, there has been an increasing trend of combing the two holidays together. In 2000, the friendliest ghost you’ll know, and the Ghostly Trio will…

One of my favorite meta jokes that can be made in animated media is acknowledging the fact that two characters share a voice actor. Like, an offhand line about "huh, you guys kinda sound similar" that's met with "we absolutely do not!" or having one character do a dead-on impersonation of the other. You cannot go wrong.
